Reviewer's comments
"I think we've had a few levels set in supposed hospitals, but none ever really managed to craft a believable atmosphere (likely due to the lack of proper object packs) and sadly this is no exception. What you get here is a quick run through a small base/lab level. I appreciate the author trying to use solid white colors for the walls, but the TR engine doesn't seem to handle it the way we'd like it to so the result is a bit odd. There was one crazy cutscene with flipping and twisting camera angles that crashed my game twice, I had to revert to the original tomb4.exe to get past it. After a few doors and a button, Lara discovers this so called hospital had been working on a pet project of their own; her clone, no less. And that's all she wrote. 10 minutes. 09/20" - Treeble (13-Sep-2020)
"Play a level so dark like this only with three flares is really a torture so, use a savegame editor or prepare yourself to light your way continuously shooting pistols. Not enemies or pickups except the sun glasses, the gameplay is reduced to press two buttons and find a moveable block; nothing more to do in all this short level. There's an effort to create a creepy atmosphere, but even the flybys haven't music. Unremarkable." - Jose (22-Jan-2018)
"Nice, quirky concept. Short, quirky level. A 7 minute run through the dark corridors and ventilation ducts of a hospital, pushing a few buttons to finally meet up with a Lara statue at the end. It's basic alright, but the idea was a good one." - Ryan (18-Jan-2017)
"The idea for this level is nearly the same as for famous "Spectrum", a game by Stranger1992. Here, we also get into Lara's dream and wake up from it, but the whole thing is presented in much worse way. Knowing "London Hospital" was released few years before "Spectrum", we can easily assume it's one of this cases when the first execution of an idea was not the best one. Dark lighting, not enough flares and the only original thing is the well done cameras mixed with magnificient sound. SUMMARY: A game worth a look on it for its spooky atmosphere, but if you're looking for something REALLY serious of this kind, play "Spectrum" instead of this." - DJ Full (14-Nov-2010)
"This demo was pretty interesting but gameplay was virtually nonexistent (but then again a hospital isn't as inspirational as an asylum). However I gave 1 for gameplay because of the hidden pushable block. We can't say that it's an abandoned hospital because the employees are working on a project (Lara's clone) and there is a patient (Von Croy). It also looks like the hospital is run by Jean-Yves. Unfortunately since I don't understand Italian I couldn't enjoy the second flyby. The textures are bland (but hey it's a hospital) the objects are quite original and there is a dark atmosphere that goes well with a hospital that is on the verge of bankruptcy (eg. an elevator shaft with a chain that once supported an elevator). I found a room that was inaccessible because of an invisible wall." - Sakusha (01-Aug-2004)
"A level maybe for the kids out there as there are no enemies which means no bang bang although as it is quite a dark level set in a building not one you would automatically think of as a hospital you will probably end up shooting off your guns for a little extra light. The only thing I found to collect was a pair of sunnies just lying on the ground half way through but otherwise you're goal is to find Lara's replicant which will take about 10 minutes. There are a couple of interesting flybys added one involving an elevator button that made me feel like I missed something as I left that area knowing I couldn't get back but there was nothing to worry about and in the end you don't even need to press it to finish the level. Other than that I'd have to say this is a bit too tame a bit too short and a bit too low on gaming." - Sash (23-Jul-2004)
"This is a very short level and although I hit the end trigger I went back to an earlier saved game as I did spot a button near some doors (elevator?). That didn't do anything apart from a flyby I saw. It was dark way too dark for a hospital though even a hospital at night. 24-02-2004 " - Gerty (28-Mar-2004)
"Phew! I thought it was just me. Then I read a few more reviews. Obviously a demo and a short one at that. Flares are needed a lot especially in the crawlspaces as it's very dark. It does look like a hospital in places the first area being a waiting room but further in to the research part it becomes very garish with what looks like bloody walls and floor an artifact letting off electricity and a faceless Lara clone. Very spooky throughout. I spotted the moveable block only because I had a flare in my hand. There's also a most peculiar flyby that shows Von Croy talking to somebody but it keeps turning upside down and rightside up. Not what's he doing here? I liked the outfit and the whole idea. I'd like to see this developed some more. Shows great potential." - CC (26-Mar-2004)
"This is an interesting level. You are wandering in a hospital by night where experiments are being done. At the end of the level you will glance the subject of these experiments... :) The locals are a bit dark and the level is a bit short but I suppose it will be continued. The textures are nice and I love the added sounds and speech too. I didn't find a Secret. This level seems to be a demo or at least unfinished. The elevators are out of work. This is the first level of the author and I am waiting for his next even better work. :) You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version) savegames and pictures here: http://treditor.hu/12/london_hospital_research_department.htm " - Obig (24-Mar-2004)
"Demo? Possibly. Or did the builder get just so far and then give up? Short spooky run through a hospital with a glimpse of a Lara clone(?) at the end. Interesting atmosphere that could be developed into a good level. Would like to see more from this builder - I think he has potential." - Bene (17-Mar-2004)
"This hospital must be private - you don't get rooms that size on the NHS. This is a short demo with nothing much happening. There is one cut scene that looks interesting but as I don't speak Italian I have absolutely no idea what it was all about nor what the disorientating camera angle is for. No enemies and rather bare rooms but it has a certain atmosphere and could possibly be worked up into a decent level." - Jay (08-Mar-2004)
"A short 5 minute demo which actually reminded me a bit of Max Payne 2 (at least as far as I got) - like the flashback moments with Von Croy and Jean Yves and running around a dark hospital. Actually I didn't mind the darkness so much this time as it added quite a lot to the atmosphere and the level looked better with it being dark with some occasional light being lit. The flybys were rather nice but the room geometry could use more work (needlessly tall rooms) the wall textures were very plain and overall - I find it funny how the authors learn first how to disable the cheats then some basics and then finally someday the rest. This author has a lot to learn yet but also has a great potential - can't wait for a level of his and let's hope this is not one of those demos that never see the light of day..." - eTux (04-Mar-2004)
"This is a demo. But not much in it. Very very dark very little gameplay no enemies - not much to do at all." - G.Croft (02-Mar-2004)
"At first I was convinced that this couldn't possibly have been an authentic London Hospital; but within a few minutes there she was: crawling along a filthy corridor. Clearly the Builder really has experienced our Health Care system first hand. What an intriguing little Demo that was! Sinister Hospital flashy Camera sequences Lara Double encountered right at the end and Italian dialogue. I couldn't get the Lift Doors to open and there was too much darkness but I enjoyed the atmosphere all the same. 13 minutes of interesting playing for me and a regret that it was all over so soon." - Orbit Dream (02-Mar-2004)
"Clearly a demo and only 30 rooms but it has its charm. A nice catsuit outfit and a few interesting flybys spice things up it is rather dark and many of the rooms look bare despite the several objects thrown in in a bit of a wild mix. The push block was well hidden the elevator did not work for me and it got better towards the end with some funky textures. Only lasts for 10 minutes or so." - Michael (26-Feb-2004)
"This looks more like a demo than a level. It is pitch black it has no enemies and the textures don't exist it really has no interest at all. Of course being it a hospital it could only have white walls but I think that was more like a convenient solution to not go into trouble and apply textures. However I liked the concept but from theory to action there is a long way. I think with some proper lighting and puzzles as well as enemies which means the level has to be redone from scratch it could be quite good." - Kristina (24-Feb-2004)
"The level name sounds interesting indeed but the level is easy and short without Enemies and Objects and the Lighting in some place is dark not much to do here. Lara breaks in to the rooms pulls on switches and tries to find the way to continue until she sees another Lara." - Yoav (24-Feb-2004)
