Reviewer's comments
"Kinda funny how I've accidentally played two Ireland levels back-to-back, but this one is pretty uninspired. I suspect it's a debut level, trle.net is under a week long maintenance as I write this so I cannot check, but it has all the signs: wafer thin walls, stretched or compressed textures, crude and boxy level design, end of the world within reach, etc. I don't think I ran into a single pickup in this game, all you do really is run past a few boars as you look for levers, with the occasional rope or monkey swing in your way. 10 minutes. 09/20" - Treeble (13-Sep-2020)
"Young Lara means having no flares or weapons and not being able to acquire them through cheating. That's not really an issue in this case, as the level is so brief to render them virtually useless and one dark crawlspace I spotted on the way through didn't seem necessary to finish the level. Unfortunately there's not much entertainment to be mad. The island setting is nice enough if a little bland, but there's not enough to do to make the raid worthwhile in my opinion. Use a few levers, run around a bit, avoid a couple of enemies, swing on a couple of ropes and that's it. Pretty unremarkable." - Ryan (12-Feb-2019)
"Another anodyne level with young Lara. Nothing interesting here, and only the usual tasks: pull some levers, avoid some enemies and take some rope swings near the end. The texturization is not so bad, there aren't pickups or secrets and it notices a small effort to create certain atmosphere. Short and very easy to play." - Jose (23-Jan-2018)
"The biggest part of the level is really bad. The Flyby at the level beginning is superfluous, there is no reasonable horizon, textures lack, trees float in the air and one sees stretched textures. The only what looks really good are the last few rooms. But this is of course far too little." - Scottie (21-Mar-2010)
"Well - the most memorable thing about the whole adventure was the initial fly-by, as nothing else really implied that this takes place on an island. Well, except the TRC's "Black Island" textures, but since you have to extrapolate in your mind where the rest of it is, I don't really buy it. The whole flowing water thing seemed intriguing initially, but in the end turned out to be nothing but an error from the author's side. It's not quite as deserted as the title implies as you'll meet the odd pig, crocodile and even Von Croy on roof of a temple structure before all is said and done. Quite an ok level as such, and has its redeeming factors, so worth a go if you're in for a short raid in a not such a popular environment in custom levels, but you can do better as well." - eTux (18-Oct-2007)
"This is a Young-Lara-adventure. It is not difficult. Instead of killing the pigs Von Croy is running senseless around on the roof. There are only a few things to do pull switches use ropes and avoid the pigs. It has no riddles. Playing time about 10-15 minutes. Everyone should be able to finish this level." - Avmaster (23-May-2004)
"A strange little level with a nice beginning and a kind of abrupt ending. Here is a young Lara on a deserted island which is not my fav type level to start with but a natty little under fifteen minute run about all the same. Textures I had a problem with because they kept disappearing into blackness but I managed to get about and avoid the few enemies lurking which were those annoying little boars and a crocodile. No weapons and no pick ups at all that I could find and no secrets as far as I know. I easily got up to higher places only to find I shouldn't be up there and had to plough back down to earth so a slight amateurish level but none the less for young Lara fans or children I think this might be a hit because despite a few spike traps and those little piggies this isn't a violent level at all. Not really for me but after a stressful day I can't complain too much. God only knows what Von Croy was doing up on the roof at the end but first time round I managed to miss him anyway and ended abruptly after entering the last door. Nothing too taxing and nothing of real irritation so nip through it but don't expect too much of a head rush." - Moonpooka (07-May-2004)
"Don't expect too much from this level - short and simple. I say that the textures look nice and good atmosphere - those were the only things that kept me playing to the end of the level." - Yoav (04-May-2004)
"Actually quite a cool starting flyby I thought and then a reasonably convincing Island setting through which Young Lara pursues a fairly linear run with little to do (three switches avoid a few warthogs and a croc two ropes to swing on). But meeting Von Croy on that roof like structure was hilarious. What is he doing there - has he finally gone completely mad? Assuming this was the debut of the author it is quite impressive setting wise the 15 minutes of not really exisiting gameplay are not that promising though but let's check out his other work..." - Michael (11-Apr-2004)
"This was over before I knew it. A small and very fast paste level with young Lara. Some parts are too dark and some parts are too bright. A first attempt probably. Having said that there are some nice ideas in this one so this can be a potential great builder. Still pondering what Von Croy was doing up on the roof though. 23-03-2004" - Gerty (28-Mar-2004)
"Not quite deserted - there are wild pigs and a crocodile. Since this is a young Lara level you'll just have to avoid them as best you can. I did glimpse Von Croy on top of a building but he didn't seem inclined to help by killing the pigs. There were a lot of areas that seemed to be completely pointless and one crawlspace was so dark without benefit of flares that I was completely unable to tell if there was any reason to go in there. Fifteen minutes of very easy gameplay." - Jay (26-Mar-2004)
"It would have been a great adventure but this level is short. This is the first level of the author and I am sure we are going to see better works from him. This level seems to be a bit unfinished. There are no objectives. Your only task is pushing levers for the getting-on. Meanwhile a few wild-boars and a croc trying to stop the young Lara who does not have any weapons but they are not needed either. The lever is linear so you can't miss your way. The textures are a bit unfinished and there are no added sounds. If you have some spare time have a look. :) You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version) savegames and pictures here: http://treditor.hu/12/deserted_island.htm " - Obig (24-Mar-2004)
"The level starts by a flyby showing a view of the island. This is a short level of 15 minutes that consists of fairly easy progression. You are playing with Young Lara so no weapons to deal with a few wild boars and a crocodile. Textures are taken from Angkor Wat and also from the Irish levels of TRChronicles. There are some problems with the texturing and the shaping of the blocks. One room with the 2 Roman statues is not bad though. All you have to do in here is to explore find a lever or two and make a couple of rope swings. At the end you have the choice of dealing with a spikes trap or to climb on the roof of a temple and meet Von Croy. With more care for the texturing and more things to do this could have been a fun level to play." - eRIC (23-Mar-2004)
"Definitely a first attempt and (to add insult to injury) a Young Lara adventure. These sorts of levels would not be so bad but Level Designers persistently ignore the pleas of all the players namely: don't make Young Lara levels so dark as there's no way to illuminate them. But apparently trying to put across such things to a designer hell bent on building a Young Lara adventure is somewhat akin to explaining the concept of Culture to an Australian: it simply cannot be grasped. What we have here therefore is a small (somewhat ragged) quest through frequently pitch black surroundings as the young Lass finds herself exploring deeper and deeper into an oriental-style island. Some of the platform jumping is easily avoided and the end of the world can be reached on a few occasions but it's a fast moving little adventure without any apparent purpose. Under the circumstances this is not too bad a debut; but here's to a more accomplished second attempt." - Orbit Dream (20-Mar-2004)
"I don't know if this is a first try to build a level but it sure looks like it. Young Lara is in it but there are enemies around such as wild boars and a crocodile. Apart from pushing some levers there is nothing else to do and the challenge is just a few spikes you need to avoid. The textures are often stretched and you can easily get up the rocks to see the blackness in the horizon. Ten minutes is all it took me to get through it. The second try might be better than the first." - Kristina (20-Mar-2004)
