Reviewer's comments
"Not bad, but not many new features in respect of the original level; as far as I could see, a gem, a couple of knots and a small room with a falling rock hanging from a rope. Enough ammo and medipacks, some extra enemies (skeletons, wild pigs) and few more. I found also the secret bonus chamber the author quotes in the readme file, but no so special too: several pick ups and some enemies to shoot. Only for nostalgics." - Jose (15-Jun-2017)
"Another attempt at remaking the Colosseum and I actually found this better than Valentino's level. The builder has used the Coastal wad to give it an entirely new facelift and has added a few little gameplay sequences of his own while following the original format. You get a gem and a couple of Pharos artefacts to find, a torch puzzle and some fun climbing. Not bad at all." - Ryan (29-Nov-2016)
"What we have here is not so much a remake of TR1's Colosseum level, but more along the lines of a re-imagining, with the overall level design being revamped in many cases, in order to account for the fact that only good ol' TR4 assets are being used throughout this somewhat nostalgic romp. Texturing is handled rather well, the atmosphere is rather solid and the completely different puzzles(from the original level), are unique enough to put your skills to the test, requiring a good amount of patience as you traverse from one area to another, dealing with irritating warthogs and skeletons in any manner you choose. In conclusion, despite some unfortunate shortcomings(such as the lighting being a bit too dark in some areas and an annoying camera reload bug that requires ctrl-alt-deleting out of the main game, past a certain point), this is still a rather fun raid that does enough things differently to justify the download. Worth playing through at least once." - Ceamonks890 (20-Apr-2014)
"This is a remake with a few twist and different enemies, weapons and puzzles. Although there are changes in the game play and architecture, one will find it's way quickly through this nicely designed level. The timed run felt a lot easier than the original. In general the game was fairly easy to play and there were plenty of pickups of weapons and ammo to dispose of the enemies, which were mainly wild pigs, skeletons and crocs. I found the texturing to be nicely done and the level had a good atmosphere with decent sounds. I failed to read the ReadME and had no idea about the trigger tiles at first. Also did I run into a bug where I tried to reload for a final screen shot and had to replay a bit from an earlier save game. All in all this is a nice little level for nostalgics and well suited for beginners because of it's easy game play." - Blue43 (02-Oct-2010)
"This was quite an interesting departure from the original TR1 Colosseum level. Just yesterday I played another Colosseum remake, so while the level has been completely redesigned here, it still holds quite a lot of similarities with the original. Everything has been replaced with Coastal motifs, and as unusual that may seem, things don't feel out of place. The changes are more than enough to go through this level one more time, so give it a try when you're feeling nostalgic. 30 minutes, 3 secrets. 04/09" - Treeble (04-Apr-2009)
"A remake (with some different puzzles) of the TR1 level with Coastal ruins texturing. It works rather well although I like the original better. The choice of the basic Wad is good, as we have skeletons and crocs but warthogs can't beat the lions. The level is enjoyable enough with some different twists. The lighting is good in most of the places. I was annoyed by the camera bug at the end, not only the game freezed but I had to reboot my PC. Gerbil could have used a classic camera instead of a flyby, if he did not know how to get rid of this problem. That aside, I have liked returning to the Colosseum." - eRIC (13-Jun-2005)
"A remake of an original level with some nice places to remember. The colloseum itself was nice and the atmosphere too but the gameplay was very easy. The biggest problem was the camera bug. After you shoot a target you can't save and load and that is the reason why I don't like the level so much." - Xxenofex (09-Oct-2004)
"This is supposedly a remake of the original TR1 level and whilst it undoubtedly does bear a strong resemblance physically it isn't entirely the same and the gameplay is completely different. No lions or gorillas just piggies - lot and lots of piggies - and massed ranks of skeletons (fancy starving the poor gladiators like that). Not a bad attempt for a first time level - a couple of puzzles an artefact or two to find and nothing at all difficult. Good one for the inexperienced raider." - Jay (12-Aug-2004)
"An interesting remake as it uses the standard coastal WAD only and still manages to come across as a fairly convincing copy. I thought it was unnecessarily dark in places and the concept of the level as such simply involves too much running around and the skeletons warthogs and crocs really got on my nerves a bit. The trigger tiles were put to good use you get a little torch puzzle and some target shooting which you can do with the pistols. As mentioned you cannot reload once the target is shot so be sure to finish from there. Also some of the cameras where only split second long. 4 secrets to find." - Michael (05-Aug-2004)
"This is a remake of its namesake and therefore it won't get big scores from me I will however say that as the textures used here are coastal it gave the look a fresh twist. Just watch the bug near the end after you shoot the one target in the level you cannot reload or the screen is frozen this is close to the end so just be careful from there to the end and you'll be fine." - Sash (28-Jul-2004)
"First thing you do is find the crowbar so you can open the door. A bit further down is an underground temple and look in every nook and cranny as there are goodies to find there. Your main goal is getting a Gem and two Pharos Knots. Enemies are crocs warthogs and skeletons lots of them. So finding the shotgun was great. Then you come into the Colloseum and it looks like the 'old' one and it doesn't. There are some traps as well a boulder that can squash Lara and some holes filled with spikes so you better look before you jump. There is one secret to get as said in the readme after the earth quake that has all the weapons you need if you want to blow the skeletons to smithereens. It will take some exploring where that is but it was nice to find it. You do need to find the sight and revolver as there is some practice shooting. I liked the trigger tile puzzle and although there is some camera to show you some of them are just a split second and couldn't tell me enough so I wondered around for quite a while before I remembered some more rolling gates LOL. There is even a small torch puzzle. Found all 4 secrets. 21-07-2004" - Gerty (26-Jul-2004)
"If you're going to do a 'remake' of an original level (and this isn't the first Colloseum remake I've played) then this is how it should be done with a few little tweaks in the gameplay in order to spice it up. (In fact if it weren't for the aforementioned tweaks I'd be tempted to mark the first category down as there's no point in scoring highly for copying someone else's work). The atmosphere is a little too dark for my liking but overall the setting has been re-captured very nicely; the modifications work well; the replacement enemies don't seem at all out of place and I ended up spending a pleasant 50 minutes here. Next time (and I'm sure there will be as he shows promise) can Gerbil give us an original work?" - Orbit Dream (26-Jul-2004)
"It's a classic coastal level with many areas resembling the Colloseum areas from the original game. As enemies you have skeletons and wild boars plus a few crocodiles. There are two knots to find and a gem. There's a nasty bug in the game near the end if you save and reload after shooting the target then you get a screen with Lara looking at it and you can't move her or enter the menu you have to end the program to exit. Luckily I was warned about it by a friend and didn't save until the end which isn't far anyway. I found two secrets and didn't find this level very interesting." - Kristina (24-Jul-2004)
"Sounds familiar this Colloseum 2. Well indeed it's a new coastal version not much different from original TR1. Again Lara needs to find her way to the Colloseum; on the way she kills wild boar and has to deal with many skeletons. A gem and two pharos knot to find. Nice easy and fun to play an old level with a new version. Play and decide for yourself." - Yoav (23-Jul-2004)
