Reviewer's comments
"This may have been topical back when the Olympics were on but as a stand alone raid it tends to fail. My time was just on ten minutes but without a finish trigger who can really tell." - Torry (12-Nov-2019)
"As I've probably mentioned in a couple of my other reviews for levels similar to this one, I generally don't play Tomb Raider to vie for the fastest possible finishing time, and this is no exception. In this regard, we have an admittedly brief but well put together Catacomb level with a few mildly challenging segments to spice things up slightly. There's a series of four stars to find on the linear path, plus a slightly treacherous Jeep course to negotiate, a few blocks to move and a few fire traps to deactivate (although I'm fairly sure you could just jump or go around them). My total time playing at my normal speed was 9 minutes and 40 seconds." - Ryan (24-Mar-2018)
"Even when this level was initially created for a sort of contest, I decided to download and play it with no hurry. Easy to play, only get the four stars and follow the lineal path, the ride with the jeep was dangerous and entertaining, I spent some time to discover the moveable "block" in the starting room. The author could place a background music more according with the objective of the level. The best: the texturization. Very short but worth to play 'cause the ride with the jeep. My time (playing with no hurries) was 10 minutes." - Jose (16-Jun-2017)
"This level was for the olympics 2004 and the goal is to finish the level in the fastest time. The level was egyptian-like with the textures. Game play is driving a van through a path and finding some golden stars. I played this level a really long time ago so I don't really remember a lot about this level but I do remember that it's fun and everyone should give it a go." - afzalmiah (06-Mar-2011)
"First, I want to say that the fact that this is a speed level didn't higher my ratings. The builder of "Lara in a Box" could also make this into a challenge - run as fast as you can to the other side - and some people would give more points because of that. But if you watch the real categories, I still think this is a nice little level. The jeep ride was really challenging and hard; the fire part was challenging if you jump straight through the fires. There was a really good lightning for this level and it was not badly textured. I also liked the different colored stars to pry off the wall. All in all not bad and worth to download and install." - manarch2 (28-Nov-2010)
"This is a new one for me. This level doesn't offer much other than a race against time which conincided with the Olympic games. A nice idea and it was well executed here. the downfall is that it is a short level and there seemed to be a few good ideas here that may have been much better if extended on. However, as far as the design of the level, it looks pretty good and the theme was kept throughout. Nothing visually stunning but it gets the job done. Quite enjoyable if your after a challenge." - Necro (19-Mar-2008)
"Why, oh why can't I just review the levels as I finish them? I had actually played this when it was still all the hype back at its release date, but for whatever reason didn't find the thought of writing a few coherent sentences about it compelling enough. So here I am - having replayed it, to actually understand what was going on here, and finally submitting a review long overdue. And if I actually turn to the level itself - as said by others - it's hard to judge it in conventional terms, so you shouldn't look at the scores as measurement of quality here entirely. Get the crowbar, get the keys, get the stars and drive through as fast as you can - that's the thrill here, and while it probably only made sense for the specific event it was designed for - you can still give it a go if you like levels with use of vehicles. But when rating the level in its own terms - I found I didn't enjoy the moments that dragged the game for what was supposed to feel (at least in my book) a pretty fast paced event - like the pushable gratings or crawlspaces (some of which I couldn't get out of at times, after getting one of the crucial stars) - but not really because they would be badly constructed (not the case - I think when playing for the first time, you'll actually have your head scratching where to start!), but because they're quite tedious as they are already if you play it once, and if you were to run through the level a number of times to get a best time, they take all the fun out of it and the level's replay value suffers greatly. Other than that it's actually a nice little affair that serves its purpose and works great anyway if you wan't a quick raid!" - eTux (20-Oct-2007)
"It's a little time trial level, as such, the ratings do not represent it's objective values. Quite fun to make through a level as fast as I could, my time was 5:21, for the second try." - Akcy (20-Dec-2006)
"A quick note, this level is meant to be played with a pretty quick tempo and was part of a time challenge. Apart from that, the level itself if very average and sometimes, below average. What makes this level tricker than normal is the fact it should be done at pace. When driving the jeep at pace, it becomes quite tricky to guide the jeep around the level without crashing into the water. It ends up being a fun course. Apart from the driving, everything else is somewhat dull. The texturing is ok, apart from a couple of mistakes and there is basically none to little liighting invovled. There are no enemies to worry about and the objects are stars that have to be placed in later on down the track and that's it for the gameplay, not much. Having played it after the competition, it's not much a thrill to play this level. So I'd advise you to play the other levels from the author instead. If I had to give this level a grade, I would give it a D, a fail mark." - The Aussie Adventurer (08-Aug-2005)
"According to the walkthrough you're supposed to be able to finish this level in about 5:10. Yeah, right! But the Olympics are for everybody, you know, taking part is what counts...and aren't it the underdogs that we all cheer for the loudest anyway, hmm? Err...what I'm trying to say is that my time wasn't anywhere near 5:10 *g*. I'd like to believe that I took the scenic route instead of the fastest, which actually wasn't a bad thing, because this level (despite having solely been designed as a racetrack) is quite beautifully made. And the jeep ride of course was fabulous - as a matter of fact I enjoyed it so much I completely missed to pick up the red and green stars the first time around (I sped past them without even noticing the crawlspaces) :o. Belated congratulations to those who won the medals, and thanks to BaGi for creating this great little challenge." - Hedgy (01-Aug-2005)
"This level has only one goal: to bring some challenges among TRLE levels. Who can hurry through the level in the fastest time to pick up the medal? There the counter stops and sending in the last savegame the result will be authentic. I made it under 6:29 (mine is 5:26 for the 8th attempt - the translator) but I think I could be still faster with about a minute but rather I spared the time trying to beat it. :) In the first water room after picking up the first two stars start crawling right at the wall because it won't work other ways. There should be a bug on the level. Put to the test how fast you are! If you want it I can put on the results under the walkthrough with your savegames and own results. The textures are average but not this is important here. Though there are added sounds too. You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version) savegames and pictures here: http://www.freeweb.hu/treditor/12/hurry_up.htm " - Obig (08-Dec-2004)
"What a super idea to produce a level celebrating the Olympic Games in Athens! Even though they are now history by several months and the medals for 'Hurry Up' have also been awarded the game is still worth playing....either to see how quickly you can do it (the title confirms this as the original intention) or for beginners to see if they can manoeuvre the jeep and the jumps! Three of my highlights were: finding the gates that were movable blocks most ingenious driving the jeep round right angle corners very tricky jumping both jeep and Lara over water most exhilarating. My main lowlight was: Trying to slip past the lighted cauldrons at the beginning and not realizing that Lara was alight until I heard the 'arrggh!' One fried traveller! I enjoyed the game very much and will leave you to decide which category of player for this game I belong to. My time was 59mins 16secs...well under the hour!" - Mrs rjb (22-Nov-2004)
"I think it's rather hard to rate this one. It's not a level like any other it's a racing level a competition which happened back when the Olympic Games 2004 were ongoing. It does capture that feel and I remember seeing several people posting their times. I couldn't at the time but I decided I'd give this one a look. It is a small catacombs style level pretty nice textures and lighting are good it does have a nice little environment but still it's so small I still find it hard to rate. I think my marks are high for this kind of level but I enjoyed it while it lasted. 7:36 minutes (no I didn't play it twice to try and get a better time). 11/04" - Treeble (13-Nov-2004)
"A great idea for a competition during the 2004 Olympics in Greece. The decor is very Grecian and there's the Olympic rings at the end. The level starts with Lara looking at a jeep and listening to a voice I suppose it was telling her what she needed to do the voice is heard at the end I suppose congratulating her! Very quickly you know that what you need is a crowbar to take those items off the walls and the keys for the jeep. The way to these is via a very well disguised block pushing effort. I didn't go for a timed test I did it in my own time and I enjoyed it anyway. It's equally good to just play as a short level and as a personal challenge." - CC (26-Oct-2004)
"This isn't really a level to rate with scores out of one to ten but as this is what we have as our system here this is what we must do. Scores aside this level has been produced purely for a bit of a race to see who gets to the end fastest along the way collecting and placing all 4 directional keys and manoeuvring across a tight jeep track over water. My time was 6:30!" - Sash (23-Oct-2004)
"What is this mania some builders have for un-marked pushable blocks? Surely an object which is moveable should reasonably be expected to look as if it can actually be moved?? Fortunately the block in question is at the very beginning of the level so I was able to begin again and complete the game in (from my point of view at least) a not too disgraceful time. I was a little disappointed that too much of the gameplay (which ought to have relied wholy on rapid movement) consisted of many very slow crawls. But the Jeep course was smashing; the surroundings well put together for such a tiny excursion; and the whole thing has a certain enjoyable charm which will (if played before Breakfast) set you up in good spirits for the day ahead." - Orbit Dream (04-Sep-2004)
"Created as a challenge to see who can complete the task at hand the fasted is a great idea. Not into this competition however myself as my time was appalling this is a small neat level. Finding Shaft Keys and drive the jeep towards the end. That is it. 27-08-2004" - Gerty (02-Sep-2004)
"A level that cannot actually be scored as such. Similar to Dirk Arnicke's Meeting Race its purpose was to create a short competition level to see who can complete it fastest. It is a nice little Catacomb setting with a bit of 'block' pushing collecting four shaft keys and a jeep ride and you will only a few minutes to complete it but the challenge of completing it fast was on and was good fun especially as it was released right now during the 2004 Olympics. Great idea solid execution! Go for Gold!" - Michael (29-Aug-2004)
"This level is quite short about five to six minutes if you're fast enough and was created as a challenge to the ones that wanted to enter a contest at LB. I must say this was a great idea and was a lot of fun for me. It has a catacomb setting and no enemies. There is a nice jeep to drive without dropping in the water and four shafts to find. I liked the nice objects that hold the fires and the new moving blocks that can fool you also the hurdles were in the Olympic spirit. I particularly liked the picture at the end nice touch. As you can imagine it's not really meant to be a level to play for hours it was created for another purpose. Give it a try." - Kristina (29-Aug-2004)
