Reviewer's comments
"Boxy rooms, garish colours, mostly ineffective traps and a variety of mismatched enemies to shoot—are we sure it’s not a Serena level? Surely, if this were the Age of Myth, the work of these two builders would have been lumped together by now and attributed to a single fictive person called Homer or Phantachteros Scorpiophonias or somesuch, who centuries later would become the subject of the penetrating psychological research of Louis M. Madder, D. phil. As it is, though, I’ll just frown at the unmarked climbable wall, point out that you can make your life a lot easier if you don’t engage some of the smaller fry so as to keep the big scorpions occupied, and thank Treeble for providing a properly playable version of the level, which the builder failed to do—as did, in one case, Serena. Hm." - Mulf (29-Jun-2021)
"I might have just as long trying to fix this level than I did actually playing it, but I'm happy to share the fixed .tr4 file with the community. It seems the author used a bogus wad as a starting point and, as such, crucial animations were missing (opening underwater doors and climbing walls, apparently). With those habilities back in Lara's repertoire don't really do much for it as it's still quite unfinished, with several untextured spots and flat environment in general — not to mention that the one climbable wall, which was lacking proper animations in the first place, is also unmarked. There were a handful of traps around, as well as enemies, but not much in terms of gameplay. A pity, really. I left with one extra key to spare. 10 minutes. 06/21" - Treeble (27-Jun-2021)
"Pity this level is a) unfinished and b) buggy as hell. I could not complete this normally as Lara's climbing animations froze on the unmarked climbable in the pool room in a sort of constipated pose so I had to resort to dozy plus there is a whole section after the pool that is simply unfinished. Colors were quite garish but the idea was good. Why do these levels even get released when they are in this state I wonder?" - Torry (11-Jan-2020)
"A simple fifteen minute linear run through a TR1 inspired cave setting, picking up keys, DOZYing up a wall because the climbing animation bugs out (sloppy) and shooting bats and giant scorpions. Nice to hear TR1 music and the colourful textures looked nice, but that's about as positive as I can be. If you're looking for a time filler level of sorts, there are far better and less buggier options out there." - Ryan (30-Oct-2016)
"While I find it a shame that the author did not continue building (or has taken a hiatus), it's hard to appreciate a level that I was unable to finish. I do not use the dozy cheat under any circumstance while playing levels, as I feel that it shouldn't be needed. Apart from being unable to finish it, I rather enjoyed the simple charm of this level. It had colorful texture choices and some basic traps. I might not have ever returned to the experience, but I could at least have said, "Look at that cute little cave level." But my mouth is still a bit bitter from the taste of incompletion." - Xela (28-Feb-2014)
"This is a short and very poor level in all its categories. It doesn't offer a decent gameplay, one of the main reasons of it is that it's needed to use the DOZY cheat in order to finish the level. There's a ladder you have to climb, but as the climbing animation seems to be absent, so that's the only way to maker your way up the ladder, which is impossible to differentiate. The enemies are basically big and small scorpions and basic type dogs. The few objects there are axes and more traps. The sound is basic, I mean there's no additional soundtracks the author included for his/her level. The textures are poor and as happens with the objects, they don't fit properly within the level from my point of view. And this level has no a story to persuade the player to enhance the entertainment." - MrJavi94 (24-Apr-2012)
"There is a piece of not killing floor in the lava pool. If you get on it, you are doomed. BTW, the lava is only an imitation. Some objects are misplaced, e.g. the swinging blades, not harmful at all if you keep yourself close to the proper side of the corridor. And, with that dozy moment... I must confess I used Fexinspect to find that passage above the unmarked ladder, hidden in the dark, which I simply didn't notice. It's the second time when I dozied in Camel's level. It's also the second project made by this guy where I encountered a scorpion and a bat appearing together. So I were thinking this mix of enemies may be the author's signature, till the moment I noticed the texturing is also very similar to that from "Lara's End". I checked the release dates and realised both levels were released together. So I won't tell Camel is repetative unless I see something identical in his next work. SUMMARY: I reminded myself of rating "Lara's end", copied scores I gave it and adjusted them a lot for them to fit "Cave Everlasting". And after the comparison I think Camel's debut is much, much more worse than his second work. Actually, it's the worst cave I've ever seen." - DJ Full (29-Oct-2010)
"The vibrant colours might initially deceive you into believing that you're about to play something worthwhile, but don't believe it.This is a simple (and rather dull) little run-around with a few enemies to shoot,a wall to Dozy up (the climbing animation doesn't work)and some swinging blades that are basically harmless due to poor positioning.Nothing else to see here;move along, please." - Orbit Dream (12-Apr-2008)
"Nice atmosphere, friendly and inviting setting with various enemies to encounter. Unfortunately some bugs, but nevetheless nicely built level, though you should know know how to use dozy." - Tinka (28-Oct-2005)
"This game is still buggy so nothing has been done by the author to rectify that. So you still need to use the flycheat and still the wrong animation with the lever pulling. What that lever did I wouldn't know as I never found that out. Lara left with one key still in her backpack. Found a small piece of texture missing and the black textured used after the pool, one could see the darts traps through them. 18-08-2005" - Gerty (25-Aug-2005)
"An attempt of a level. A person that don't know how to put a climbable wall must not release a level. All is so bad like my points says. I'm sorry." - Jose (01-Apr-2005)
"A short, though beautiful level this is. With some bugs, that's true. At the pool you can't climb up into the crawlspace, so you can only finish the level by using fly-cheat. Anyway, going to the another direction, the creator hid a key there, but we already have one of that. We have to fight giant scorpions, bats, jackals in order to possess the keys. We can open the door in the pool, but I couldn't see any sense in doing that. As if the adventure was a little bit incomplete. But because this is only the first level of the creator, I'm sure we'll see much better ones from him. :) You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version), savegames and pictures here: http://www.treditor.hu/15/cave_everlasting.htm " - Obig (16-Feb-2005)
"The cave may be everlasting but my enjoyment has quickly ceased. Unfortunately this is a buggy short level with not a great deal of redeeming features. You have to use DOZY to climb a wall switch pulling animations are missing you get an extra key that doesn't have any use an underwater gate you manually open just could not be opened in my game but this did not affect getting to the end of the game which only took 10 minutes to get to and visually the level was just boxy and nothing like a cave. I hope the author has more success with future levels and I put this down to getting your feet mastering the Editor." - Sash (26-Jan-2005)
"I am sorry but I can't give good ratings here for this level as I think a lot of work needs to be done here by the author in correcting certain things you encounter during this level like unable to climb ladders deadly floor traps/pits which I assume were to be deadly but weren't. I know this was stated in the read-me file but this could have been corrected before releasing this level. On the other hand there are some good ideas here to make this a nice little level to play but I have to state I fully support in testing levels before getting them released and I think these things could have been avoided if this level was tested beforehand and this would have made this short little level more pleasurable to play. To the author please don't give up as there is plenty of help and advise on the TR forums." - Gill (23-Jan-2005)
"Firstly you'll need to use the fly cheat as Lara is unable to climb walls. In this 15 minute level you'll enter very colourful surroundings and although quite bland by way of objects there's a mixture of TR1 and striking red and blue textures I loved the red flooring... well anything red and I'm game for it! Dogs bats and large scorpions will attack in places and then small scorpions arrive later. Some effort was made by way of traps mainly swinging blades but you can pass them on one side without being touched. There's a rolling spike device also but there's plenty of time to get by it so not too much to worry about. You'll go through and under water door too and I found no reason to do so other than to get bitten by a large scorpion and see a key behind a glass wall in another area maybe it was just a tease? At the end I found no use for a lever and I also had a key left in my inventory. A little unfinished maybe a little too short and pointless as Lara comes away with only that key plus the wall issue was a tad annoying as using dozy gets you the weapons and it's a little too tempting then to use them on the enemies making the exciting part of the level redundant. Of course accounting for new builders I think a bit more time spent would be an asset to any level but a nice try never the less." - Moonpooka (22-Jan-2005)
"This seems more like some first experimenting with the editor than a fully coherent level. The choice of textures and the colours are fun there is a variety of enemies to kill (bats scorpions dogs) and a few keys to find and use. You actually find more keys than you need to finish the level but either way will only spend about 10 minutes in here. The WAD does not have all animations so you have to dozy up the climbable wall and the switch animation is wrong. But the collapsible tiles are always fun." - Michael (20-Jan-2005)
"Very short less than ten minutes and not very atmospheric I am afraid. Basically the textures and lighting are not good at all which makes the level look fake. It is just a game of course but it has to look realistic. The gameplay isn't much either a few keys to find scorpions to kill and some areas can be skipped because as soon as you find the key for the room that has the finishing triggering that's it. I found two keys for that room actually and I don't know what the second was for unless we weren't supposed to get the one from the room with the deadly water and the blocks in the middle. Speaking of that room it seemed like there was water but there wasn't really so if Lara drops she lands on the floor. A few traps with axes and darts were easy to pass but not a bad idea. I guess it needs a lot of work and to get rid of the bugs. I think it's a first effort so I'd say to the author to keep trying until he gets it right." - Kristina (19-Jan-2005)
"Well... you see a lot of the aspects of this level would be considered unfortunate: some stretched missing textures that make that one room very confusing and verrry boxy big rooms. The level ends very quickly because you step into the room after the first key and it goes to a load screen and then the game crashes. But it wasn't all that bad. The little bit before the game crashes has pretty blue and red textures and Lara with a cool outfit. Other than that eh it's pretty much a big question mark on this level. I shan't rate it too high lest the maestro level reviewers make a fuss! For a first try from the author though it's a lot better than I would have done." - Capt. Abbey (19-Jan-2005)
