Reviewer's comments
"A fairly straightforward level where you set off after three keys. Nothing particularly taxing except, maybe, for the final rope swing which has you landing in water and you can't swim too far ahead. Otherwise it was pretty standard and good fun, much like the author's other levels. 30 minutes, 2 secrets. 04/23" - Treeble (02-Apr-2023)
"A short and crisp two-parter, but entertaining while it lasts. The first is just a sort of preamble, with a couple of enemies to kill and switches to pull, but after entering the temple via a rather enjoyable but brief quad bike ride, the real fun begins. The difficulty level slightly increases here with a timed run through a grated multi-level maze, spike traps in close quarters, and a rope swing into water which is safe only in certain places (really nice touch with this one!), but nothing too frustrating for those who aren't as advanced. You can also choose to kill or avoid the Blood Goddess (which was also a nice touch as powerful ammo is scarce). Good fun and a solid effort." - Ryan (11-Jan-2018)
"This is nice little level with some original twists and a compelling story. Lara is searching for the treasures of the goddess of blood. There is a short outdoor preamble in a desert camp, but Lara soon finds her way to the temple passing through some caves. It is not a hard level, but the challenges are well thought up and it is fun to play. There are some ennemies although they do not play a big part, not even the Blood Goddess herself. She is not immortal, but you could just as well ignore her (as she is in a rather touchy mood). Texturing and lighting are often somewhat roughly done, but I did like the lava. Also, the builder has been quite lighthearted when it comes to creating a consistent setting. Anyway, this short level is well worth playing." - Bogey (10-Jun-2007)
"The title of this custom level sounded interesting at first sight, but after a visit to the Karnak temple, it ends.I give a plus for the acrobatic bike ride, over the flaming lava and the Blood Godess. The concept of the level is inovative and I really think it could have had a more substantial contenent. It ended too soon..." - dya1403 (04-Dec-2006)
"Ruediger is one of the few builders who present an evolution and get better levels with the time. Here we have a simply couple of levels but they're a levels with good details, easy to play, a good gameplay and entertaining. Perhaps you don't find a great design or complex puzzles but it's a very playable level. I've find ammo for the shotgun but I couldn't find the shotgun. Good cameras. I felt good when I didn't need to shoot the Blue goddess at the end. Good work." - Jose (04-Jul-2006)
"Ruediger's levels always offer what a vast majority of others always lack - an innovative title and an interesting background story, both of which are the highlights of the level before you even start playing it and it is no different here. I downloaded and set this double-level for playing quite late at night, so the story definitely added some creepiness to the atmosphere. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the level, or at least its outside and temple parts too, as due to the bland lighting the atmosphere was not as effective there. It worked in the caves, and also when approaching the end. That's not to say it was bad, but at times it did leave you wanting for more. The gameplay offers a variety of tasks starting from a bike ride through the caves, to diving off high cliffs, timed runs monkey swings and so on, meaning it never gets boring, though neither of both parts really last really long. Though the fight near the end with the blood goddess can be easily avoided (rather - you can rush ahead without fighting her, not that you can avoid her completely) but that's minor, and she isn't difficult to fight anyway if you've accumulated enough ammunition and medipacks, some of which are hidden in the secrets of which I found 1 in each level (liked the 'camouflaged' one near the start especially). Overall, this is a typical 'Ruediger' adventure, but above all the typical highlights and downfalls, this level is what all this is about - fun." - eTux (10-Jun-2006)
"I really appreciated the background of this two-level series, and I would like to learn more about Nubia and its history. The first level begins with a quad bike ride (watch out for the water traps.). Then, there are a few jumps to make, and the player needs to avoid a boulder. In the second level, the main goal is to find three blood keys. I must admit that it took me a while to pick up the lasersight (I suppose that the spirit of the skeleton formed an invisible barrier). The spike traps, the boulders, the timed run and the pillars were challenging. As the player progresses, the areas get darker and darker. The skulls and the blood allude to the victims of the blood goddess, and I wonder if the caged mummies will be her next victims. I found the safe water passages innovative, and the flyby and the music evoked a dark atmosphere. The showdown between Lara and the blood goddess was stunning. Aside from the blood goddess herself, Lara also faces bats, thugs, a vulture, locusts, a fire wraith and some dogs. I found two secrets. The end of the level was abrupt, but the treasure room was a good place to end it." - Sakusha (04-Jun-2006)
"Two short levels and about 40-60 minutes of pure, clean fun. Lara is in the Nubian desert searching for the temple of the Blood Goddess, something which considering the trap-infested temple isn't going to be all that easy. There are few enemies: scorpions and thugs in the first and bats, vultures, mummies, dogs, locusts, a fire wraith found in a very strategical place and last, but not least: The Blood Goddess herself(although you could just run past her with no harm done). However, with all the traps and challenges you still have more than enough to do to keep you busy. There were a lot of fun and imaginative challenges here, including a rope swing I found very difficult to land on the right spot in a deadly pool, an upward timed run through various trapdoors and certain spots to stay away from in order to avoid being crushed completely. I found two secrets and there were also three Blood Keys in shape of red thistles to be found. The atmosphere felt a bit flat in some places, especially in the first level and outdoors and the lighting could have been applied better in the latter areas. The music was awesome though, I particularly enjoyed the heavy metal sequence....too bad it didn't last longer. In overall a fun and actionpacked experience and I really think it's a pity that it's Ruediger's last adventure as it seems....I would have loved to see more of this." - Selene (01-Jun-2006)
"The first of this two levelled game whipped by quick and fast as Lara jumps on a quadbike and makes her way through a small cave system then traverses her way across a tight canyon. The second set in and around the Blood Goddess? temple is full of traps, some a little tricky, and the odd enemy. I loved the use of safe water paths when you went swimming and the multi-layered maze like timed run was well devised, but the player shouldn?t find anything too hard with any of the things to do. With an all up time of 35 minutes and 2 secrets to collect this was a fast paced but thoroughly enjoyable adventure." - Sash (21-May-2006)
"It's a nice level from Ruedi with a few dark corners and some red spread as usual. I liked the flow in this level and even though it was forty minutes long, it seemed a bit longer. The first one has a cave like area and you have to perform a few jumps with the quad bike which actually has reverse. The second level is about finding three blood keys, killing dogs and a devilish like female enemy. The traps are well done and I have to say that shot the gem inside the lion's mouth with the shotgun before finding the laser-sight and revolver. I found both secrets and the first one was very sneaky I have to say. It's an enjoyable level, worth playing." - Kristina (12-May-2006)
"Ruediger comes up with the most wonderful titles for his levels, don't you think? Actually, I initially thought I'd mistaken the author because it starts off really light and bright but it soon gets into dark cave areas, via a short, slightly tricky and most entertaining quad bike ride. There are a few nice manoeuvres to achieve, notably an ingenious 3D timed run, the Blood Goddess looks impressive and I really enjoyed myself. Whilst I fully appreciate those builders who are constantly pushing the limits of the level editor in the quest to bring us more variety, I'm glad there are still builders who make levels like this - compact, unpretentious fun and the perfect antidote to some of the long and difficult levels you may have been playing lately." - Jay (02-May-2006)
"This appears to be Ruediger's final level and I for one can say I am going to miss them. They always have a great title, an interesting background story and a short and crisp to play through. This one here is no different: Victims of the Blood Goddess (6/6/8/7, 15 min., 1 secret): A rather quick intro with some scorpions and bad guys, a crowbar switch, a quad bike, lava pool, nice boulder trap and a canyon. Temple of Karnak (6/7/8/7, 25 min., 1 secret): More work to do here with monkeyswings around spikes, searching for three thistles for key holes, meeting up with mummies, bats, eagle, locusts, a wraith and some dogs and the gameplay highlights are a timed raisingblock, combinations of squishing, dropping and push-blocks, another nice boulder trap and then a great flyby of the Blood Goddess with appropriate music added. Good clean fun and a worthy ending of a long list of levels that Ruediger has built for the community. And never say never - he might be back one day ;)" - MichaelP (01-May-2006)
"This is a pleasant, one-hour excursion through a two-part Egyptian adventure. Although there's nothing really new here, the action hurls along at a rapid pace and the scenery is enjoyable enough. The brief fling with the quadbike in the first level is no cakewalk. You even get the opportunity to kill the fabled Blood Goddess at the end of the second level, although by the time I got there she was firing into the wall and posed no threat at all. There are some ingenious traps involving spike balls, and a nifty timed run to a raised block near the end took a couple of tries. A nice, upper echelon level that players of all skill levels should enjoy. Recommended." - Phil (26-Apr-2006)
"The first level was over before I knew it but the second one is much longer at least I thought so. There is some fun jumping in this level and I hated the bike ride, not that Lara had to manage difficult jumping but the narrow corners she had to make that is the pits. And you need to do it or else you cannot proceed. Don't know if I did the right thing as I let the woman live, as she wasn't shooting at Lara. The ending was rather abrupt once you are in the chest chamber." - Gerty (17-Apr-2006)
"In this latest 'Boys Own' Adventure,Lara journeys across the Nubian desert in search of the temple of the notorious Blood Goddess...and guess what she does to her when they eventually come face-to-face? ...Actually,no;she doesn't. In a surprise twist to the usual formula,Lara actually does a runner and lets her live. It's little touches like these which distinguish this adventure.Other examples include the lateral-thinking rope-swing over water;the "slide-over-spikes,climb-up,jump-back,slide-over-spikes-again!" sequence;the Christopher Lee moment;and the splendid "back-jump,slide to monkey-swing" maneuvre.Added to this a reasonably challenging Motorbike ride, and a fun timed-run up a multi-tiered metal cage and you have a total 45 minute package of fairly challenging enjoyment. The final few minutes(from the amusing heavy-metal Fly-by onward)are splendid and you really feel that it would be much more appropriate if Lara were dressed as a Goth. In terms of atmosphere, though,it's slightly lacking. While navigating the outside areas you never really feel that you're doing anything other than moving through large outdoor earth-coloured corridors, and the external lighting could be more dynamic and atmospheric. But as with all of Ruediger's adventures,if it's fun (with a capital 'F') that you're looking for, this will do the trick." - Orbit Dream (08-Apr-2006)
