Reviewer's comments
"I saw this level and was interested at first.
It is a demo level without a story(I guess) and my first question is: how come Lara is in Africa despite the base is in Nepal?
Questions aside, let's talk about the game itself. The gameplay is very simple and it has some new animations(that are pretty fun to look at, to be fair) but nothing bad!
Even the flares are literal torches, that looks so great!
The rest, graphically, it's not that bad but it's very simple, without it looking to bad.
I don't really don't know what to add more, this level is not that difficult and it's extremely short.
Plus, there were some issues like doors opening in the wrong way, wrong animations and other stuff that could be easily fixed but got completely ignored.

Overall, Koldo brings a very simple demo level, with some cool ideas, but I wish he could have released more of it. This demo doesn't have much at all and is clearly unfinished, demo or not.

Recommended? Maybe, if you want something short to fit a break.

Difficulty? Easy.

Duration? Approx. 20-30 minutes." - TombExplorer (09-Oct-2022)
"This is an attractive looking demo, inspired by Tomb Raider Legend (although where is it? Nepal? Africa? India? Who knows!) The caves look authentically designed and there is some nice texturing chosen. The flashlights last a long time so no danger of running out, especially in a level as short as this. As far as gameplay is concerned, there is a key to find, some simple climbing, block pushing and rope swinging. I wasn't a fan of the altered roll function, an annoyance when lining up jumps." - Ryan (09-Apr-2017)
"This is a fairly entertaining raid for a demo. It's short at thirty minutes, but you get an attractive jungle environment as you make your way through the area. The climbing animation is a bit awkward, and when you roll you wind up facing the same direction as before. The awkward animation actually got in the way during rope swings, making it difficult for Lara to grab a second rope when jumping from the first one. You get plenty of flares to start with, many more than you'll ever need, not to mention a rocket launcher with scads of explosive ammo to deal with the few enemies you meet. A worthwhile download." - Phil (10-Mar-2017)
"Very good, just some nonsense that has nothing else on his level that impessa good fun really liked some of the new movements Unnecessary, despite being very short is very good hope seje a great creator of levels, keep it up!" - Jessica Croft (23-Dec-2010)
"Here we have a rather linear sub 30-minute demo level that was fun to play and has very nice texturing and lighting, a pleasant atmosphere, interesting enemies and not very challenging game play. I normally do enjoy it when Lara has new moves added but in the case I think less would have been more. The roll for example, while looking like fun, is useless as Lara still faces the same direction instead of turning and something wasn't right with the climb up to a ledge function either.: Lara just kept falling off instead of pulling up many times. Other than those gripe this demo is pretty nice and had good potential to be part of something bigger, but unfortunately a full version was never released. Still worth the download if you need something fast paced for in between." - Blue43 (15-Dec-2010)
"I particularly enjoyed this demo. Even though gameplay is very linear and nowhere taxing, this is a pleasant way to spend some Lara time. The level boasts excellent looks, with high definition textures from Legend, and also a lot of varied background audios, mixing both Legend and TR3. The outfit, curiously, is from Anniversary though. I liked fighting the shivas, but the white tigers seemed very out of place in the jungle. I look forward to a finished version. 20 minutes. 04/08" - Treeble (06-Apr-2008)
"A very "okayish" level. There are some good things, and some bad things as well, starting with the good. Most of the textures were good, and the atmosphere was outsanding, sorry to say to the people who don't like this level. The puzzles were not to hard, and the keys were very easy to locate. Now, on with the bad part of the game. It was much to short, yes i know it was a demo, but it was a little bit to easy. Some of the animals weren't placed in the right place, randomly selected to go there, but overall it was a pretty nice adventure, and i hope the whole game will be completed soon." - Vaughnage (10-Dec-2007)
"The scenery within this Demo is fantastic, and it looks very realistic. I liked the large number of plants that were added, which helped to create a more organic environment. The texturing was also quite good, and suited the level well. On the other hand, the gameplay was very predictable and easy. A few shivas to kill and some traps to avoid, before a short pushable block puzzle near the end of the level. There is not that much do to here, and while it does look excellent, on the gameplay front it is somewhat lacking." - Spike (20-Jul-2007)
"Another notch on my belt so to speak and yet another demo. Not so fond of demos and certainly not so fond of demos by Koldo as I rather see the finished product right away. Please do not touch the roll key as that move is one of the best there is. As for gameplay, well not much." - Gerty (20-Apr-2007)
"Gameplay of this level is based about Lara's movements and habilities, with no interesting puzzles, only pull switches and move some blocks. It has some original features like the lantern wich never consume the sinks or the moveable block you can climb (as in TR3); this last feature could generate many posibilities to build good puzzles ;D. I liked a lot the ambience and the level is well lightened and textured too. Only I missed some interesting puzzles and better situated enemies to make a good level. Cheer up, you are in the right way." - Jose (26-Mar-2007)
"It's obvious that the builder has been influenced by TR-Legend. The atmosphere, textures and some moves scream TRL but I hate it when people mess with the roll key. It's bad to change it and I disliked it. There are buttons to push, blocks to pull and a key to use. Some swimming there, some climbing here and you're done. This definitely needs puzzles and I hope the full game will have plenty to go with the setting." - Kristina (19-Mar-2007)
"Another demo..... raises eyes. And what's going on with the geography in the title? How do you get African Caves in Nepal .... huh????? At the risk of repeating myself, why bother with releasing half finished demos. Make the effort to get your levels properly tested privately, and then bring out a proper release. As it stands, this is not a bad demo, and a huge improvement on the Ghana demo. Only about 20 minutes game time but you're travelling through some lush jungly, temply areas which are reasonably pleasant to the eye and the lighting is suited to the jungle feel. The progression of the level presents like a bit of a test level for some of the new Trep implementations such as the climbable pushblocks. There's also the advanced Save Game feature where you select the Save Game crystal in the inventory and then choose to load or save from here. This may have thrown some people, by mistakenly thinking that the Save Game has been disabled. To avoid confusion, there should clearly be explanations of this feature in the readme. There's some new Lara animations, but some of these need improving as they are jerky and seem a bit unnatural. You encounter a white tiger but the poor thing is mute and can't raise a growl, and there's bats and Shivas to contend with. These enemies were suitably placed. There are wrong animations on the wall levers. Puzzling was simple in this level so you'll whip through this in no time. The most fun thing is the inclusion of the bazooka weapon. Only silly me forgot to use it until the end. Hmm.... maybe I'll go back just for the fun of using it, to lay the smackdown on those shivas with it... Kaboom! Anyhow the builder should keep on with this project as it shows potential." - EssGee (16-Mar-2007)
"As other reviewers before me, I'm a bit confused about the African part in a Nepal level. Anyway, those things have never really bothered me as long ad a level is good :):) Not much of gameplay in this one, neither are there any objects or real puzzles. What strikes me most is the fantastic atmosphere and sound! Very promising! Same goes for textures and lighting. Especially the textures. Looking forward to the end product! Btw, this level gets much more interesting if you use the exe file (trep) as it disables saving! Try finish this demo then if you can ;);)I think it was meant to be played like this..." - QRS (26-Feb-2007)
"I guess I simply need to get used to the fact that Koldo always releases a short demo before then not too much later releasing a revised version that isn't all that much more extended. The Level Title is certainly misleading as what you get here is a 20 minute long, very easy and very linear run through a jungle setting (so not quite looking like Nepal at all), but it looks really nice with the texturing, lighting and excellent choice of audio. There is lots of vegetation and a great horizon to look at and you get to battle a few bats, a tiger and some Shivas. But the only realy gameplay element are a few push blocks (which remarkably are climbable). Still, an interesting small adventure in TR Legend style that you can try to see something a little different." - MichaelP (19-Feb-2007)
"Nepal Base (Demo) - Koldo 5/6/8/8 Quite confusing, given the name of the demo, that it starts out entitled 'African caves', but perhaps the full game will explain this. Right, first thing to say is that it does look good, with its Legend textures and moves. The gameplay is currently pretty embryonic, just a bit of exploring to do, find a key, kill a lot of bats, a white tiger, some Shivas (in Africa? Oh well, OK). It's definitely promising, but I would like to see the gameplay beefed up a bit." - Jay (10-Feb-2007)
"Koldo is clearly a builder who has worshipped at the shrine of 'Legend',as this level displays all the trademarks of that game;that is to say,it looks great but has little or no challenge whatsoever. The Nepalese setting is slightly dubious as it feels more like India, but the atmosphere is nonetheless impressive. Progression is simple with nary an opportunity to pause for breath(except to admire the scenery) and the adventure flows smoothly with a couple of decent Boss encounters to spice things up. Puzzles are minimal (a couple of block-pushing sequences) and one nasty bug occured where Lara couldn't lower herself from a small gap. The frame rate may possibly suffer due to all the increased detail, and the new moves and objects are quite superfluous;but it's all rather endearing in an overly gimmicky sort of way. I sincerely hope, though, that this doesn't presage a whole slew of "Legend wannabes" when there's still so much mileage in the original (and better) format." - Orbit Dream (09-Feb-2007)
"This is one of those levels that feels like the builder started off with the trimmings and fripperies before working their way backwards to cover the essentials. It's got a disorientating number of patch effects, new animations, new sounds and more custom objects than you can squeeze past, but there's really not much else to it. A bit of running about, jumping and gathering items in a setting that looks suspiciously more like Ghana than Nepal as I imagine it. The new animations were quite an annoyance, most of them jerky and buggy - I could have done without the new roll move in particular, since Lara ended up facing the same direction anyway and it made it very awkward to manoeuvre in close combat. The level's not all bad, though. Progression is easy and fluid, and there are a couple of short boss fights to add some excitement. The Within Temptation title music is a nice touch, and earns an extra point and biased thumbs up from me. Despite the technical flaws it's a good-natured bit of fun, showing some promise for the full version. Completed in twenty-five minutes." - Ampersand (07-Feb-2007)
