Reviewer's comments
"This does not come close to the ingenious atmosphere of Eva's last two levels but on the other hand it's nice to see such a progress throughout her levels. The main problem of this level is that it's far too cramped, with quite many tasks being embedded into a very small space and except of exploration there's much tedious backtracking and climbing through a sometimes fairly odd architecture - although the overall atmosphere of this level is quite charming. The gameplay has some quite enjoyable bits, like the timed runs, and the task density is fairly high and varied, but for me it was more like work that has to be done and not something uttermost fun, especially with those (at first quite obscure) icicles that have to be climbed several times. The visuals are solid, but there are several obvious texturing mistakes; there are even some odd camera bugs in the starting area that should have been fixed. The three secrets are not so hard to find, but finding them enables you to see a sweet little bonus area. It can't be called bad but a larger environment might have covered up several issues at once. 20 minutes." - manarch2 (10-Dec-2017)
"If there's any gripes in this level, then it's probably the requirement to scale the entire level up the icicles a tad too much to progress. But, this was an utterly enjoyable peaceful raid throughout. Enemies are absent, so the focus is on exploration and puzzle solving (I liked the timed runs and the button puzzle). The environments are very pleasing to the eye and enjoyed this very much." - Ryan (19-Oct-2017)
"This was one of those non-linear levels where I got to within inches of the Finish Trigger, but couldn't open the very final door due to my having done tasks in entirely the wrong order. In this case,I arrived in an area far too soon due to somewhat unconventional jumping (which I thought was the genuine method of progression);collected the five snowflakes and all of the various puzzle pieces, but came unstuck at the very very end when I shot a lionshead and absolutely nothing happened - because I should have shot it near the beginning, and in the interim had mucked up the heavy triggers. The design of the map is very clever, and the lighting and textures are superb - but nothing alters the fact that far more care should be taken to ensure that players shoud NEVER be able to do things in the wrong order (because,if such a thing is possible, you can be quite sure that I'll do it!)Nonetheless,I give this level the benefit of the doubt due to the skill with which it has been constructed. For those who religiously follow Walkthroughs as if their lives depend upon them, this should be a perfectly fine adventure. Those who prefer to go it alone ought to be warned!!" - Orbit Dream (20-Dec-2013)
"Here we have to hunt for five snowflakes and that is easier said then done. So here you go, up and down and up again and then down again, well you get my drift. Something I for sure don't like. I got all the snowflakes and even the secret in the special room. Hats off for Eva to cram as much as possible in a small area." - Gerty (09-Mar-2008)
"The level has narrow and small areas which doesn't allow the player to enjoy it as much as possible. The gameplay is nice, with snowflakes to find, some star pieces and golden stars as secrets, I found three, but it could have been more wide open. There are interesting climbing procedures with Lara using the cave's stalagmites or are they stalactites, I always confuse the two, to reach the upper levels. The timed run was fun and again we have some moveable objects. The puzzle with the bird buttons has some kind of problem and can get the player stuck with one wrong combination because the buttons don't come out again. It's one interesting level, definitely worth playing." - Kristina (26-Jan-2008)
"The brilliant introduction for this level had me longing for the Reload button, lol. I guess long gone are the days when "Ice Cave" levels were just bland massive large and empty rooms, what you get here is a tightly set of rooms nicely tied together that despite being small, takes quite a while to traverse and that way, running to and fro doesn't seem as boring as a large laid out map would. Questing for five snow flakes (some hard to spot because they're wafer thin) and a star piece, Lara can absolutely enjoy the beauty of the scenery because it's really nicely crafted. Getting the three secrets reward you with a nice christmas message (in German, though) and the only oddity happens in there, where you have flying candles. The sequence button solution is also a welcome addition that avoided frustration. This level is truly a joy to play. Happy holidays! 30 minutes, 3 secrets. 12/07" - Treeble (23-Dec-2007)
"This level has not big rooms or scenes, but the author have made a very good use of them. Certainly it's not a lineal level and you can miss something, but as I said, there are not huge areas to explore and there are enough flares so you can see all that you need without have to go back later. I enjoyed a lot the clever puzzles but not very difficult to solve; secrets are not very hard too but hidden enough, if you can't find them all you only miss some medipacks and a room with red candles and messages. Well placed cameras and good lights complete one of the best advent levels I played this year. Many thanks Eva!" - Jose (19-Dec-2007)
"Another pleasant 45-minute diversion to enjoy during the Advent season. There's a nice touch with the climbable icicles, but I found myself having to go back and forth at least one time too many. Your primary task is to locate and combine two star pieces to open the exit gate, accompanied by some nice music for the season. There are three secrets which allow you to pick up some extra goodies before finishing, and there are also five snowflakes which seem to have no important function in the game (other than providing the satisfaction of finding them). You also get to swim a little along the way, which adds a little variety to the gameplay. Recommended." - Phil (19-Dec-2007)
"Lara must find snowflakes, a star and wand, and also some secret stars--all hidden within an icy cave. i just generally wasn't very impressed by the level. Some of the levers were placed in clever locations. There is a lot to do in a relatively small amount of space in this level, and the puzzles are challenging. But the level wasn't very visually stimulating at all i didn't think. It didn't have a strong Christmas atmosphere in my opinion. And i didn't feel like i was exploring really, just getting the job done. Most of all though, i thought the end was rather anti-climactic. You're barely in the last room and the end music hasn't played for two seconds when the automatic end triggers. It's a nice piece of work, especially if i'm correct in understanding that it's the builders second level. But i won't play it again." - drguycrain (19-Dec-2007)
"Right from the nice little starting animation I truly enjoyed this 40 minute adventure, because it is rather cleverly designed into a fairly confined area. The strange camera glitch at the start, the fact that maybe the icicles need to be climbed a few too many times and that one of the secrets is behind a walkthrough wall are only minor complaints in an otherwise fast paced and engaging little adventure. A few collapsible tiles, some blocks to push, two timed runs, some target shooting, a bit of swimming and a 3 button puzzle with a nice hint are packed into this level and the bonus room you get for the three secrets is nicely done too. Great level, do not miss out on this one!" - MichaelP (16-Dec-2007)
"Help Santa find five missing snowflakes - what a nice idea. There's most effective (and sneaky) use made of objects in this highly enjoyable level and those snowflakes take some finding. The gameplay is a very nice mix of exploration, agility and puzzles (though no enemies of course), with a lovely 'secret' area to access and find Christmas messages. I just couldn't stop playing. Nice one, Eva." - Jay (10-Dec-2007)
"A small level with good design and well tought out gameplay, we go up and down on interesting routes many times to accomplish all the tasks. One nice rainbow puzzle and two easy timed runs were thrown in for good measure. I really liked the choice of music. An enjoyable level." - Akcy (08-Dec-2007)
"Here's another little Christmas level that packs a powerful punch. I was confused a few times and that was due to a few sneaky placements of key items. So much happens in such a small space which is neat since you don't have to run around all over the place. There's little Christmas stuff except for the special surprise if you collect all the stars. I am a bit more into the ridiculously Christmasy village Christmas levels, but this was quite fun and thought-provoking." - Shandroid (07-Dec-2007)
"Eva's second level, a very good one in all senses. Lara's trapped in an icy cave and, as usual, she must find her way out. To do so, she has to find several snowflakes that Santa has lost so there can still be a Christmas, plus secret stars and a star to be combined with a stick. Not an easy task. Right from the beginning you begin scratching your head until you find the climbing icicles. From them on, it's a game packed with original albeit not necessarily that obvious (the lion's head on the toppest top of the room near the start, for example!) solutions that will keep you busy for a while. Reccomended." - Jorge22 (06-Dec-2007)
"This year third level for advent calendar 2007 and beggining of christmas time, which i played in these serial. Why is so short and about 40min with some coffe pauses i finished ;) Level is very nice and very playable. Colors are clever put with shadowed and dark corners ofchourse no enemies. Found 5 snoflakes very nice look. 2 Golden star, for secrets, needed third for open probably master secret, fourth. Eva made very nice and very good level with very good snow parts and objects. I like parts with not too hard timerun for opened doors, and swim part was very good, there found two snow flakes. Big snow ball is very good made it which broke iced pool. Atmosphere are very, very good!" - Ivan (05-Dec-2007)
