Reviewer's comments
"This is a bit hard to rough by our conventional standards due to its nature — Lara, dressed like a clown, pushing a giant hamburger while passing wind?! After having another of the worst weeks of my life, I am happy to say this was the spark of joy I needed on a Friday night. It's so silly all around that it's impossible not to smile now and then at the many, many little touches all over. Don't expect something that'll make your jaw drop to the floor and some remarkably innovative gameplay, but the fun you'll get in here should suffice. It certainly did for me — thank you, Sheevah. 35 minutes, 2 secrets. 05/24" - Treeble (07-May-2023)
"Usually I hesitate a long time before filing perfect 10's for a review but I can't this time. This level is so spot on in everything it does that it deserves those scores. Anyone who can keep a big grin on my face during a whole level deserves it. The theme is so perfectly worked out in style, sound, content and gameplay that I'm astonished I didn't notice this level at the time it was made. Special mention for the humongous creature that is announced at one point which turns out to be a... (not going to spoil it, but it reminded me of the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail where something similar happens, lol. Mind you, the game can be hard at times. I had to use the walkthrough a few times but again, if you take your time and look good, you should be able to finish it. I hope Sheevah is alright as this level apparently was her last already long time ago. What an experience. Definitely a must play." - bERT (15-Dec-2022)
"I lost half an hour trying to find a yellow balloon, which was on secret difficulty (should never happen to main gameplay pickups), but otherwise I had a good time here. However I think it could have been even crazier, must admit I finished underwhelmed. Sequel?" - DJ Full (22-Aug-2022)
"I played this level again, probably for the 3rd or 4th time over a series of a few years, and each time it seems I discover something new. The level builder's sense of humour is INCREDIBLE and I have a huge weakness for this kind of humour, sometimes toeing the line of dark-enough humour. It was almost as though I could leave my funny bone in the author's hands because I knew I'd get a laugh around the corner. The triggers and sequences are what impressed me the most, because you might expect something of this calibre to be seen in a realistically-designed level, with the caves and the fire puzzles. I was so impressed. Those horrible skeletons, though. I wish I had explosive ammo to take care of them. I loved the Jeep drives; it reminded me of the "UV-activated arcade and movie theatre" type of places. And the boss fight - I'll say no more! It was the cherry on top! I highly recommend this level to anyone who has a sense of humour and wants a bit of a break from the usual Tomb Raiding. Absolutely brilliant." - MedievalMetal (04-Feb-2022)
"It’s really good to see a joke level like this getting a high great rating and being in the Hall of Fame. TRLE is more than build a TombRaider game with complex and hard challenges. TRLE is creativity! And here we have a joke level that delivers everything you’d expect from a level in that category: joke and fun. It’s not an extremely easy level, as there are some puzzles that the player will need to stop and think about what the next steps will be. It’s understood that textures and lighting could have been more diversified, but considering this is a level year 2007 and belongs to the “Joke” category, then these are not aspects to complain about. Objects, sound effects and music are a masterpiece. A classic to be played by all TombRaider fans who want to have fun at an inspiring level of the joke category. Sometimes we need to change our tone a little bit and relax by playing different and creative levels, so this is a highly recommended level. 40 minutes, no secrets found. My rating is 10/10/10/8." - Leoc1995 (07-Oct-2021)
"A memorable level indeed, yet not my favorite approach. If this is the best "Joke" level out there, I think I'll skip the rest... There's no real storyline; gameplay is simple and silly most of the time, and once or twice it is almost unfairly tricky; the sounds become annoying after a few minutes and there are camera hints missing; textures are too repetitive most of the time. If you like inventive and colorful adventures, in every sense of the word "colorful", you'll like this. There are funny moments and beautiful corners to be had. I'm glad for the creative force to provide these types of totally different levels, even if this one seemed a bit rushed and piece-meal to me. Thank you for this "and now for something completely different" moment, Sheevah! Congratulations on this effort! I suppose I recommend you play it as the joke that it is, instead of taking it too seriously as I probably did :)" - MigMarado (01-Oct-2021)
"This is a level like no other, its completely silly and very very funny yet also fun and challenging and i just loved it. the silly sound effects, the amusing enemies dressed up for a party, i loved the bit where it was building up to giant boss fight and turns out to be a little gnome haha but later on you'll regret laughing when youve got a T rex to deal with haha. youve got puzzles with giant ham burgers, traps with fire and swinging killer balloons, a target shooting task, a timed run ride on a modified jeep through a spooky ghost track, a great puzzle with balloon boulders on triggered tiles and oh my the list goes on! so much fun! so original! and very funny. if your looking for something to cheer you up and give you a laugh as well as great gameplay and puzzles this is the level! it has been fantastically made with fun music, a great jolly atmosphere and good textures the only time i had use a walkthrough was when i missed the yellow balloon after the traps, that was very well hidden! but apart from that i managed to figure the rest out by myself which was a bonus" - John (28-Aug-2021)
"This level is very far from a classic Tomb Raider level, it is designed to take place in a garish, siniser world full of clown hats and fart jokes. I have to say, it works! Gameplay is fun - Lara fills a room with burger-blocks, rides a clown car into a house of horros, and battles old foes dressed for the occasion (both her and the foes). That being said, I found some puzzles to be repeaty and I think the yellow balloon was hidden way too sneakily - I would've put a secret there. Overall I like the builder's ideas and would like to see more daring levels like this." - carolinux (16-Jan-2021)
"This level is the first I have completed on here and so this is my first review. Not knowing where to go, the "joke" category piqued my interest and after reading the reviews, I decided to give this level a go. In my opinion this level is absolutely brilliant for its category. Lara somehow found herself dressing up as a clown for a kid's party filled with oversized burgers. The added sound effects when she shoots her pistols (or pulls/pushes blocks) make the level quite quirky. If you want to giggle a bit here and there and play a cute level - this is the one for you =)" - kimmybambi (02-Mar-2020)
"It is clear to me how this is the most ranked level within it's category of joke. Joke levels tend to be remembered as some with not so much work put into it, Lara in the Box certainly can come to someone's mind when we talk about Joke levels. But this one certainly does put a lot of work into it, and that's what makes it so good. Being the only one of it's category in the Hall of Fame, Simple purple tries to go very further from what TR is. Lara is dressed as a clow, and the soundtrack puts party's sounds to give you the idea. The textures, objects and soundtracks are almost fully original,or atleast changed, those create an atmosphere very alive from a party. It isn't hard to finish the level, most puzzles aren't that hard, though you might have difficulties at finding all the balloons, but it is an enjoyable ride. Even though you have enemies from the classic TR games, all of those have something new with their party costumes, that detail really shows the work put in the level. When you have to face the gnome, it was incredible for me,because I actualy was scared, imagining a big old enemy going to kill you, so with that kind of enemy in mind, finding that gnome was very funny since it was builded an expectation of something completely different. It's good to know that in a Joke level I was able to have my laughs, not every level can bring you that even within it's category.I found the soundtrack ''you have company'' playing when the gorillas appeared very nice, it was an sort of warning that could scare you sometimes just like the original games did it with it's music. The soundtracks were very funny and creative, all of them hold the party theme very well. There was nothing much special about the lighting, the textures certainly did the job for them. This level has a lot of detail in every aspect of itself, this builder may have done a joke level but he certainly wasn't joking about making it an actual level." - HaniHeger (12-Oct-2019)
"I downloaded this because I was very curious to check out what the joke category had to offer. I saw that there aren't a lot of well rated levels in this category and I also saw that this one had the highest score, so I decided to give it a go. I enjoyed it way more than I expected to considering that this level looks and sounds like as if it was made by a clown...literally...no joke, even though the level looks like one :) . Ok, seriously now, it's heart-warming to see a level that is as whacky looking and light hearted as this one. However, if it wasn't for the amazingly ridiculous and well suited (for this setting) sound FX this level wouldn't have been half as funny as it is. For me, the highlights of this level was the reveal of the first boss fight (don't wannna spoil it) and the ride into the ghost tunnel. That ride, was spooky but in a childish way just like how horror rides at amusement parks are, very cool. What I could criticise about this level is the fact that all the puzzles are quite simple and none of them have an interesting gimmick or an awe-inspiring presentation. This is disappointing since, while this is a joke level, it's still a Tomb Raider level in it's game design and as such I believe it should have had at least one nice set- piece of a puzzle. A shame really, but otherwise the level design is good, it properly conveys to the player the clues about what he/she has to do (except for a part where ----MINI-SPOILER here-------; you had to shoot some balloons; here there should have been only balloons of the colour needed in order to avoid confusion) and it provides a good variety of puzzles, trap rooms or hallways, platforming and enemies to pace out the other elements. About the difficulty of the level I could say that it’s about average or even easy for an experience tomb raider player but honestly I don’t think it would have suited this level’s tone if it were to be any harder than this. I definitely recommend this level if you are in the mood of something unconventional and bonkers." - Cruzader (17-Apr-2019)
"If you are in depression and you want something to cheer you up, you should definitely try this level. Once you start, you will understand from the textures and Lara's costume that all the strange things are going to happen here. But except from the perfectly designed atmosphere, the creativity of the puzzles and the comical enemies, the sounds and music used by the creator really spice up the level and make it really enjoyable. The highlights of this level is when you drive the car through the hall with spooky stuff which is accompanied with some funny music to make it more exciting and the dinosaur fight. The concept of this level is that you have to find 4 keys to open the door that leads to the ending trigger. Although some keys are easy to find, one of them requires you to do some backtracking if you miss it in the first place which was the only drawback that I could find in this level. Conclusion: Simply Purple by Sheevah is an amusing way of spending your evening and a highly recommended level. Although it is not exactly a Tomb raiding experience, there are some puzzles for you to solve that are combined with humorous music, well-designed atmosphere and funny enemies. A big Bravo to the designer!!" - TRTheoP (21-Jun-2018)
"Hmm, it's hard to even know from where to start, here we go. The whole level is very high, very colorful and all nonsense, which made me laugh hard while playing. I found it so original with the textures, also the most of the soundtracks and models, especially the intro which was very funny. Even tho the level is kinda short in my opinion, it's a must have on the collection, no wonder that's the best joke level currently, and have been 11 years already. Oh also I noticed that one of the background musics are from Rayman 1 PS1 classics, that made me like it a bit more. I just think the level could be a bit bigger, but still totally worth playing." - Yamayuki (27-Mar-2018)
"The whimsy of our level builders never ceases to amaze. This was a relatively fun little level with unusual visuals, objects and dressed up enemies you probably will not see again. Nothing too taxing here except for controlling the blessed gold cart." - Torry (24-Mar-2018)
"The game made me laugh all the way through. About every possible element was spoofed well." - jtrim (26-Feb-2018)
"If you're up for a bit of raiding in a more whimsical manner, then try this one. The gameplay is actually pretty much the normality for Tomb Raider i.e. pushable puzzles, mild traps, a bit of exploration and a vehicle ride, but what makes this special is all of the customisation and work that's been done on the enemies, objects, textures and sounds, making this a really good choice if you want a more lighthearted style of raiding. The sound loops did get a tad annoying, but that's just a minor gripe. Just real feelgood raiding." - Ryan (20-Jan-2018)
"I thought I'd be replaying some joke level in the middle of a rather tough game but either my memory fails me badly or I've actually left this game aside somehow. That being the case, I've missed a really great level before but I must thank builders of "impossible" games for opening the doors to a new opportunity. From the excellent custom sounds and objects to the atmosphere and sheer fun of it all, all so well done, I highly recommend *Simply Purple* to all those who wish to relax from much darker settings with a few laughs and still plenty of gameplay." - Jorge22 (24-Feb-2017)
"This level was very fun to play it had a few puzzles and a few enemies with good gameplay. I found the boss fight with the little guy with the hat very funny as before you entered the boss room there was sounds and pictures that looked and sounded like a very big boss but it wasn't at all. The secrets were well placed and I thought this had to be one of Sheevahs best levels." - lokky99101 (29-Jul-2016)
"G&P: quite easy to finish, even if some switchs are hard to spot, I can't say it was the gaemplay experience for me. E,O,S: objects were cool, enemies were funny :) A,S&C: the atmosphere is the better par of this level, really nicely set, even if a bit crazy somehow, sounds were quite 'boring" after a moment, Cameras were nice. L&T: lighting was nice, maybe a bit flat sometimes, textures were cool even if in 64pix. Nice anim range. I recommand you this level, if you like crazy atmosphere." - Lara_Fox_Croft (05-Jun-2016)
"A very beautiful, funny, cool and purple level. By the way, this is the first custom level I ever played. And this is a good level to start with. I love the objects in this level. GIANT HAMBURGERS!!! I also like the outfit of Lara. Atmosphere, soundtrack, lighting...Everything good. The only thing I wasn't content about is: It's a short level. I was so surprised and sad, when I reached the end. But all in all, it's a great level." - Nuri (13-Apr-2015)
"What an hilarious map ! Sheevah combined a crazy world with puzzles and a bit of Tomb Raider spirit. When I downloaded the map and started a new game, I was surprised of the colors and all, because I have never seen that kind of environment in a personnal map before. Traps are funny and some parts made me laugh so much (especially when at the dwarf moment, I just died and almost fell from my office chair) puzzles are nice and the difficulty fits for everybody. Even ennemies were invited to the party with their party hats ! Got the 2 secrets, I finished the game after 1 hour and 44 minutes and I'm recommanding to anybody who wants to pass a crazy and cool moment with Lara disguised as a clown." - Hedteur (07-Jan-2015)
"i dare to say that this is the only joke level that i enjoyed.this shows how to make a GOOD joke level.Sheevah,i miss you so much!!!!!." - janachorider (06-Mar-2014)
"After seeing this on Youtube, I just had to play it myself! Wasn't disappointed. This level is very surreal, even the title flyby hasn't escaped! Ok, so this appears to take place at a birthday party, probably a children's party judging by the sound effects such as a dummy, and the noise of people having fun in the background, they also laugh when Lara dies, and the gun shots are part poppers, and Lara goes 'boing' when hitting a wall! Never mind what we hear when she eats a medipack (burger). There's literally a sound effect for everything you do and everywhere you go. There's plenty of balloons and decorations lying about, and the inventory items are hotdogs, burgers and candy. Your first task is to push a couple of large presents - we discover Lara has lost much of her charm here! Must've had beans for tea...Then push some levers shaped like hotdogs, fight some leopards, and another lever, followed by a room with giant pushable and rising burgers, which make for an interesting puzzle, there's dead party goers here also. I'm beginning to wonder if this could get any weirder, but no - skeletons which can climb up, and blow party whistles! A few jumps, then you shoot some stars to open another door, then pop balloons to use ropes. More dangers like ahead with swinging balloons, at the same time as flames, and falling blocks. And a few chimps to finish you off. More puzzle madness with some rolling balls you have to trigger to allow you to push balloons and open door, then we have the best moment of the game, you hear the ominous sound of something large and flesh eating heading your way, then...it appears it's not a scary monster after your tender loins after all - more like a leprechaun after a pot of gold! Nice soundtrack. Following this classic moment, we have an awesome ride on a cart through a dark, flashing and ghost infested funhouse style racetrack, accompanied by the birdie song. Use your candy cane to open a door and then a bit of backtracking, I noticed the secret area here - it's the only dark and genuinely scary area - even the skeletons aren't safe! The aim of the game is to collect and place 4 balloons, once you've done this you're treated to some really nice fireworks and a celebratory soundtrack. Textures are just as mad, purple everywhere, we have swirls, stars, blocks, stripes, circles, clowns we even have some objects which give textures a more 3D edge - looks fantastic. Sort of has a birthday/funhouse/lunatic asylum feel to it. When all is said and done, this provides a very entertaining and fun packed game, never have I played anything like it before, and probably never will again. Impressed by the speed of loading, although I was concerned at the number of hotdogs Lara had on her person - we don't want our heroine piling on the pounds! Net gameplay 1 hour." - sonnyd83 (06-Jun-2012)
"There must be some deep psychological reason why a level filled with overly jovial music can produce proportionately more player frustration than a quiet one. Not that you can fault the builder for this, really;as the puzzles (aside from a rather too sneaky crawlspace leading to a vital pick-up) are fun and straightforward enough, without being a push- over.Nor,indeed, can you fault the builder for the technical virtuosity of the level, which is high. The custom textures and lighting are well applied;while enemies are copious and often cheekily placed. I think it was the back-tracking that I needed to perform for two of the balloons (which I had missed the first time around),which would probably have been more endurable without the wacky continuous background music; and how many times in one level can anyone possibly incorporate farting gags while still finding them amusing with every appearance? I suppose it's all a bit of an acquired taste, really;especially when you consider the fact that this level is at once too difficult for young children while simultaneously being too wacky for most grown-ups. Worth seeing, though;and it'll certainly make you chuckle...at least to begin with." - Orbit Dream (23-Oct-2011)
"5) Simply Purple (8,8,10,10) Total = 36/40 (90%)
Well, what a fun level this was! Thoroughly enjoyed playing this one, an ideal bridge linking the kids and adults levels (see my other reviews). The gameplay wasn't too strenuous allowing you time to look round and appreciate the effort that went into creating this world. I thought the sound effects were great, they complimented the visuals perfectly, and I especially enjoyed my trips through the Ghost Train. Sarah (10) liked the rope swings, driving the car and the roaring build up when you were told to 'Prepare to Fight!' We both missed the yellow balloon and needed the walkthrough to find it. There was quite a bit of backtracking but we didn't mind as the level looked so good. Highly recommended as a fun playground for people of all ages!

Previous Level - Lara und der Wolf. Next Level - The Ghosts of Croft Manor." - Robobok (27-May-2011)
"What an original level! The textures were custom made as well (I think). This level was a bit challenging and was very colourful. The timed ride in the car was fun and heartracing! Enemies were skeletons, gorrillas, a T-rex and even this elf thing. Also they were wearing party hats and other party accessories! Amazing audio and the pistols make a pop sound every time she shoots. Sheevah places lights in the most random places and she makes it work really well. Very good and original level. Don't miss it!" - afzalmiah (04-Mar-2011)
"This level made me laugh that often - when Lara makes certain noises, for example, or the brilliantly animals with some balloons on them. The ideas in this level were very good, it was a bit short for me (35 minutes) but full of great puzzles. Never seen the burger puzzle before, or the timed run with an orange car through a dark tunnel, or the balloon search, or... I could go on forever. Brilliantly done, a fantastic job Sheevah did. Highest recommendation, and I think this is even too little I can say." - manarch2 (02-Dec-2010)
"What a joke level! 40 minutes of fun from Sheevah, but what kind of! The puzzles are creative, the enemies made me laugh, and we get a little challenge too with the small car. The textures fit perfectly to this level. They create a wonderful atmosphere. The medipacks are my favourite. That's how a joke level looks like." - rtrger (20-Jul-2009)
"This is probably the best joke level I've ever played! Everything was simply perfect! Weather you playing during the New Year's or throughout the rest of the year it shows us how amazing a kids dream party can be. I'm sure that almoust everyone who has played it will want to go back to it sooner or later. In adition, it's packed with lot's of memorable scenes (such as the fantastic music that plays while driving), that will for ever leave on the memories of everyone who plays it. Absolutly briliant. I'll leave a 'challenge' to everyone who reads this, play it along with your friends!" - Just Croft (02-Jul-2009)
"This is the best comedy tomb raider bucket of nonsense levels i have ever played!!! This is absolutely brilliant and a must play for people that want to see just how far lara will go to have some fun xD The sound effects are great, the textures awesome, but I must say that before I even started playing, I was mesmerised by the title screen flyby and the music. Absolutely excellent. Made me reminisce about TR:4 :D WELL DONE!" - Phys (05-Nov-2008)
"This was so absolutely campy and fun! I had a blast, I've played it 3 times now trying to do speedruns xD The swinging balloon/firetrap was impressively difficult and felt absurd trying to take it seriously, it looked so happy and goofy! Lara poots when she pulls blocks (and mind there's a lot of block [burger] pulling in the snack bar) and burps when she eats hotdogs! There was one 'cruel joke' switch that set Lara on fire if she uses it but once bitten twice shy eh... Lara herself was cute as a button with her candy backpack and red clown nose! There were a few flashy textures that might have been annoying but they were not at all overused. The jeep [clown car] ride was the most unique TR experience I've ever had. Truly had that pure Funhouse feel, I loved it. Backtracking through it was cool, but the third time Lara had to drive thru it I was thinking 'ok we got the point, the funhouse jeep course is cool'. For a 'joke' level the gameplay was varied and intelligent. In fact I wouldn't call this a joke so much as a spoof. Every texture, item and object was completely unique and new (to me at least) and I'm frankly in awe at the skill with which all elements are put together. Simply the most creative concept I have ever seen. Download this fun and very easy-to-use level file and you're getting much much more than a campy joke, you're getting a thoroughly engaging puzzle set." - Aneres (30-Oct-2008)
"You have to laugh when you play this level as there are some really hilarious moments when seeing some objects/enemies that Sheeva used. The hunt is on for balloons, well what do you expect in a party level. There are a few of those party levels around, but this is the funniest and the best so far, I have to admit. As far as gameplay there is quite a lot to do, although the pushing was a bit boring, in the end it does pay off. All in all this level will get you in a better mood after playing and seeing all the funny things." - Gerty (27-Jul-2008)
"Rarely being disappointed with an offering of Sheevah's, I was surprised why I felt surprised when playing this collection of everything inventive, because as usually - this is an excellent raid all the way through. It's bright, campy and filled with lots of hilarious moments like the ghost-ride, the tension build up to the 'big' enemy (or the unexpected moment when revisiting the area), the Tarzan-jump and many more that make this a definite must-play for the fun-loving players out there. On a more negative side - the pushable object puzzle dragged a lot, the yellow balloon's hideout in the crawlspace seemed uninspired in comparison to that of the others, and I could've done with less backtracking, but when you slide down the final slope with all the fireworks and congratulatory tune, all the less impressive moments are easily forgotten and just makes you wish there would be more levels like these out there! Found 1 of the 2 secrets." - eTux (11-May-2008)
"A great and wonderful New Year's Eve Party Level! Quite short at just over 30 minutes in which you need to find four balloons to reach the New Year Party, but packed with hilarious moments. My favourites being the Haunted House amusement park style ride with the vehicle (despite the music) and the great build up to the first 'big' enemy. I have to say though, I felt this may have worked even better without most of the enemies (panthers, gorillas, skeletons) as it seemed odd to shoot them with this plopping sound the pistols made and while many of the sound effects are superbly chosen, several of the music pieces while intended to be funny just ended up getting on my nerves. But that does not take away from some great fun when playing through this level - don't miss it - there is nothing else like it out there in the trle world." - MichaelP (09-Apr-2008)
"The best joke level released on trle, but there are somethings which although funny at first, i found to be annoying, the sound effects and the quite long burger push block which ended before getting too annoying. Despite all this it is a very good nicely looking level. The way it was set out and the way the gameplay flowed was very good, and the texturing was nice but not perfect. A great ending with fireworks and happy new year signs. A real highlight was the enemy with the key which was done incredibly well. The car was fun with the hamsterdance tune going while inside. You are densly supplied with small medipacks (hot dogs) 110 in fact, so you always have a good supply of health. All in all, a very nice level with nice textures, good atmosphere and very fun gameplay. Recommended." - Cory (26-Mar-2008)
"This game was downright hilariously impressive! Gameplay wasn't neglected, the animals were hilarious with there party outfits! Lara was so funny in that clown like costum! Fun puzzles, cool textures, nice sounds for everything, and the objects and enemies were well placed, you have to come to this party or your a square!" - Vaughnage (17-Feb-2008)
"For sheer novelty, any lover of Tomb Raider adventures will thoroughly enjoy this level. You go through the same basic motions as you would in any level, but the objects and enemies have been retextured to fit a carnival atmosphere, and the accompanying sounds and music match very well with the decor. Lara issues a most unladylike sound while pushing and pulling objects, but I guess we can excuse her under the circumstances. You even get a timed one-minute buggy ride through the darkened Tunnel of Love. Bright, colorful and well-lit everywhere else. A most entertaining way to spend an hour. You won't play another level quite like it, so download it now and give it a try if you somehow missed it in the flurry of the BtB releases. Highly recommended." - Phil (15-Feb-2008)
"The best damn game I've ever played. You should make a whole levelset in this style! Gameplay and Puzzles: The burger-pulling puzzle takes a long time, but is saved by the wonderful new sound effect. Plus it's quite a unique idea to use it with the raising burgers. There are sections that made me have to think, like the balloon shooting, the boulder/lava puzzle and the backtracking to get the blue, green and yellow balloons. Lovely stuff. :) Enemies, Objects and Secrets: The new costumes for the enemies really helped the atmosphere, and the "boss" was brilliant. However, he can't attack Lara, but that adds to the joke. The gratuitous use of burgers, hot dogs and balloons was also very good for this level. I've only found one secret, though... Atmosphere, Sound and Cameras: Some absolutely hilarious music tracks and lovely cartooney sound effects steal the show in this level. What are the title screen and boss music tracks called? Lighting and Textures: Simply purple, just like the title. Even the textures are funny, such as the animated emoticons on the walls and the TR2 Laras dressed up as clowns. Conclusion: A short but sweet level that's great fun to play and absolutely hilarious. If you're in a bad mood, this is bound to cheer you up. Play it NOW!" - Teeth (06-Feb-2008)
"What a party!!! Lara celebrates the new year but the party is too much savage with a lot of dangerous creatures and she must find four balloons to open the exit door. This joke level is quite good, with a lot of new and interesting features; not a classic level, but with many new objects, showy new textures and a squander of imagination. Tasks are not very difficult, but I missed the yellow balloon and I had to look for it through a huge part of the level, wasting a lot of time. There are some areas to enjoy as the timed run with the original golf cart through the fear tunnel, or the dwarfs zone with the attractive objects,... A different way to build an interesting game. Good work!" - Jose (02-Feb-2008)
"What a cool level! I just found it to be super fun and totally hilarious throughout. My absolute favorite part was the "troll" part. I love purple and bright colors so I was completely at home here. Even my son wanted to watch me play it. I was a little annoyed by the background party noises, but that was forgivable. I can tell that Sheevah spent a great deal of time making such a unique level. Totally worth playing for those who enjoy a bit of whimsy." - Shandroid (22-Jan-2008)
"Wow, what a wonderful level. So many things happening, so much fun. Just simple, short and funny. There should be more levels like this for a nice Sunday afternoon to play. Sheevah gives us good time with fun enemies, clever secrets and puzzles and last but not least absolutely great atmosphere. Prepare yourself for a few hours of absolute fun! Thanks Sheevah, really great job. We will be defenitely waiting for your next step.." - Monica (22-Jan-2008)
"I decided to download this joke level because I saw some funny screenshots in the stuck forum. When I started the game and saw the original title completely modified, I knew that I would laugh a lot in this beautiful level ! Everything is made to surprise you with funny things ! For example I loved the skeletons with their little trompet which makes a TOOOOT!!! when they attack you, the boss fight after a very frightening corridor, the schnappi music while the T-Rex is attacking, the Tarzan shout when Lara is jumping with the ropes and a lot of other things ! The audio files are very well chosen. Actually, I can't see another choice which could have been better for this level. The atmosphere is perfect ! Lighting is also very good but there is some flaws in texturing. However it's a minor detail and this should not prevent you to play this Masterpiece! Congratulations Sheevah!" - TimJ (18-Jan-2008)
"Oh this is just hilarious. The sound files alone make it worth the download, trust me. It's a party and Lara is dressed accordingly, the panthers are wearing party hats, the skeletons are carrying balloons or party blowers, the gorillas have hats and red noses and the snacks are gigantic - nobody's going home hungry from this bash. The gameplay isn't neglected either - prepare yourself for what must surely be the most unusual push puzzle and amazing timed drive ever, among other things. I was feeling a bit low before I started to play this, but I felt so much better for a good laugh. Thanks you Sheevah; it was a real tonic. Absolutely not to be missed. P.S. I had just finished writing this review when my husband came home, also feeling really low over work-related issues. I recommended that he start playing this - he did and was chuckling in no time. So thank you Sheevah from Smartarse too." - Jay (18-Jan-2008)
"When I saw the dino with his clown nose and heard the music I knew we were in for a special romp. Sheevah will not disappoint you. You will work up such an appetite in the burger-room that by the end of the pushing and pulling you'll be wishing you had one of those burgers with fries. The gameplay is fairly straightforward and Lara's goal is to find the four balloons. The build-up to the big fight is hysterical and you will have a fun timed-car-run. This is a light-hearted game that everyone can enjoy ! Thank you, Sheevah !!" - Mugs (12-Jan-2008)
"While 'Joke' levels have been known in the past to be quite poor in the gameplay department, this level manages to be both enjoyable and even more crazy and funny than many levels put together. I was a little disappointed by the start of the level, as I started to worry if the whole level was going to be pushie puzzles, but thankfully variety kicked in soon enough and we were left with a bunch of different tasks to do in this wonderful environment. Dodging traps, driving a car and taking part in a mini-boss battle (with the most hilarious build-up and introduction in any level I've ever played) were just some of the many objectives here. The only slight complaint is that I thought that one of the balloons we had to collect was so well hidden that you'd think a secret should have been there instead, and the fact that the door near the start of the level never re-opened meant that I had to backtrack through the long tunnel many times. The texturing and lighting in the level was also great, and both suitably wacky and colourful. The highlight of the level, however, has to be the objects. The enemies in the level all seem to be in the party spirit (including that great T-Rex in the title fly-by) and the accompanying sounds and audio added greatly to the party-like atmosphere. Judging by the view I saw of the mini-PC we also visit a family of gnomes who are TR fans! Even Lara's outfit was great, and was bright and colourful, matching with the rest of the level. As we slide down the slope to the end of the level, we are showered with confetti and wished a Happy New Year, and this level certainly made ME happy at least. ;)" - Spike (02-Jan-2008)
"Well this is certainly something else. I don't quite know where to begin, or if anything even needs to be said... the level speaks quite powerfully for itself. Lara Croft is on her most epic adventure yet, through the darkest most terrifying and life changing experience of her life, in which she must confront the most psychological disturbing recesses of the human soul... I am being serious. I don't know about you, but I think Gartenzwerge are terrifying, and angry Granny skeletons in diapers even more so. Not to mention Lara's clown nose, which will always give me nightmares from now on. This level really is a treasure in the custom level world, and allows Tomb Raider levels to reach a new breath-taking level of kitsch, decadence, and tastelessness. Not only is it great to see all the custom objects, flashing colours, and crazy audio tracks, but it is even better to see TREP actually truly being put to some incredibly creative uses. The new .ogg audio is great, with the cross dissolving between audio tracks, so that we never seem to loose the crazy party ambience, but everything more or less flows together. Some puzzles are also very creative I think... the burger pushable puzzle was a bit much, but because it was burgers it was fine ;) And the jumping onto the squares in the lava pits in order to trigger the rollingballs was a really cool idea. The boss fight in this game was probably the best TR boss fight I have ever had in my life, and the author does a great job in preparing us for it: giving us an extra medipack, ammo, and littering the hallway leading to the monster with a skeleton... and the audio made all this even better. I'm not sure if my heart will ever be able to recover from this. Texturing is great... the texture choices are atrocious and therefore wonderful. Lighting is also great... lots of pink and purple everywhere. Perhaps this purple theme of the level draws its inspiration from the fact that purple lighting always looks horrendous in LE levels, and I still cannot understand why some builders employ it. The Geisterbahn drive through tunnel was lots of fun and actually very atmospheric, not to mention that that must have been the best vehicle moment I have ever played in a TR level. I really hope this 'Simply Purple' level has a 'Simply Pink' sequel coming up one day, and I want to see this in the Hall of Fame eventually. A very funny, enjoyable and hilarious game if you can understand a bit of German humour. I would recommend this to every seasoned TR player who loves delving deeper into the deeper Mysteries of the Ancients, and it is also perfect for anyone who takes themselves to seriously... like myself. Great work Sheevah, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)" - Sethian (02-Jan-2008)
