Reviewer's comments
"Lara explores a few Peruvian temple chambers in search for a mask. While these chambers are relatively simple rooms, they are visually well built. Lara has limited pistol + crossbow ammo to work with, and in my opinion not enough was provided to deal with the many raptors there are, on top of a skeleton and a tribesman and some bats. Luckily most of the enemies end up running into walls instead of attacking Lara, so the ammo wasn't much of a hindrance, but still took away whatever entertainment the combat could have provided. Lara will also dodge numerous boulders and blades, do some target practice on gongs, and push some blocks around, one of which goes back and forth one too many times (you have to push it one way to use a switch, then push it back to where it was to use a key). A brief raid for sure, but certainly shows some potential. 31 minutes." - JesseG (01-Feb-2021)
"Solid little level of around 40 minutes that will have you thinking more times than not. You start with no weapons and upon locating your trusted pistols you have limited ammo for them so be forewarned. The raptors here are clever as they have learnt to climb vertical walls. There is a lot of pushing and pulling of boxes involved as you solve one high switch after another but for a level that only displays four rooms there is a lot going on. Enjoyed this one. Thanks." - Torry (23-Aug-2018)
"There's a nice variation of tasks to accomplish in this comparatively small level, indeed it took me 40 minutes to reach the end. As others have mentioned, pistol ammo is limited, and although I was initially apprehensive about running out before fighting the next raptor or native, the Crossbow and explosive ammo turns up about a quarter of the way through, so no problem there. Lots of pushing and pulling cages, plus some rope swinging, item hunting and boulder avoidance, in a nice setting. Fun for everyone." - Ryan (17-Oct-2017)
"For a shortish level consisting of barely a handful of rooms, this was surprisingly involved and immersive.Much of the adventure is comprised of block pushing tasks, which have been well thought through;although it probably doesn't pay to scrutinize the gameplay too closely as,although there are numerous intelligent ideas and concepts on display, much of the level can be short-cut;presumably against the builders wishes. Limited ammo at the start is not much of a problem,as plenty of weaponry can soon be located;but several of the enemies (including two raptors and a native) ran harmlessly into walls and posed absolutely no threat. The South American atmosphere has been pretty well caught, despite the fact that the locations are limited and consist only of smallish interiors;and textures and lighting are applied with care.A moody audio loop is somewhat offset by a pointlessly deceptive camera angle;but, all things considered, this is a decent little 'thinking' level." - Orbit Dream (12-May-2011)
"In this Peru level one must explore several rooms which were built in the style of BtB 08. This level construction set takes enjoy to big popularity and the results look also great. An experienced level builder can make here, actually, nothing wrong. In search of the artefact, a mask, Lara must push several boxes to come to the various levers, JS and a key hole. The riddles are relatively easy, one knows, actually, always what one must make. Opponents are bats, to raptors, a native and skeletons. The challenge consists in it which there is only very much few Medipacks and which is limited gun ammunition. Later one also finds the Crossbow with Explosivammo. It is a matter of being careful and not immediately like Rambo massacre everything immediately what runs to one through the way.
Result: Who liked the level set of BtB 08, will have here a lot of fun" - Scottie (03-Jun-2010)
"An interesting little adventure that cramps quite a wide variety of little tasks into an area that feels like it consists of only 4-5 rooms. Nothing too difficult, but all your efforts need a brief moment of thinking and thus the 40 minutes go by quickly, despite some heavy need for pushing those boxes around. A few smaller technical glitches are not much of a problem, but the wrong camera shot really confused me for a while until I just ignored it and went for the cog wheel on the pedestal. It seems the BtB08 WAD by TimJ never gets old. A nice level for in between." - MichaelP (19-May-2009)
"Although there are some time consuming tasks to do in this level (mainly pushing cages) you can spare some time as all that climbing, jumping and pole swinging in the rope room is not necessary (the lasersight is not needed to shoot the gong above the altar-like middle structure, so you can shorten your business in that room and get the needed cog very quickly). But if you do all the tasks the way it is intended this is a nice level of about 50 minutes, well designed and nicely textured with good lighting and music. Recommended even to not so experienced players." - Jerry (17-Mar-2009)
"This was more to my liking although I still hate it when pistol ammo is limited. There is some back and fro here as well and I could do without climbing that long ladder for the last time. But all in all, this small level is cramped with a lot of gameplay. There is some pushing to do but his was enjoyable, there are more traps and I like the idea that you could monkey climb over the knives. There are some nasty enemies (raptors) but finding the crossbow is a must and then it was indeed pretty easy to do. I still like the Peru textures so I had a good time." - Gerty (11-Jan-2009)
"A straight-forward game, and a pretty good one. This game has some good puzzles, and whatnot, but it lacks a little fullness in the gameplay, but, by all means, not that bad. The enemies are pretty cool, but its mostly average. The atmosphere was creepy, nice, as with the ambience in the sounds. The graphics are pretty great. The lighting could be better, but its pretty good. You should download it, give it a try." - Vaughnage (30-Nov-2008)
"Those are the kind of levels I like. Not difficult tasks, good puzzles, traps, well lightened and textured and not unreal features. The rooms are small but there's a lot of work in each room. Lineal level, I'd like to play more 'cause for me was a bit short. I don't know if there's a bug in the initial room but the raptor can climb the high bridge I raised. A short level but recommended to play." - Jose (04-Nov-2008)
"A rather nice albeit short Peruvian level with quite a bit of gameplay. You start without your weapons so don't waste time because you will have a bat nibbling at your ear. Enemies are raptors, bats, skeleton and native. However the skeleton and native posed no problem for me as they seem to get stuck and I didn't have to waste my limited ammo on them. A tricky block puzzle that requires some thought but overall the gameplay wasn't at all taxing. You will get the crossbow which makes dealing with the raptors much easier. I only have one pet peeve, I don't think Lara's trusty always present unlimited ammo pistols should ever be tampered with, that's just my opinion, but a builder certainly has the option to do so and I respect that. Overall a nice 40 minute raid that I can recommend that is suitable for beginners." - guss18 (19-Oct-2008)
"It's surprising that there's quite a lot of gameplay crammed into such a small level. You only have a handful of areas, each of which is somewhat distinct. You get the crossbow rather early in the level, and even though you're provided plenty of explosive arrows, do not be afraid of using the poison arrows on the raptors. Instead of wasting three explosived arrows in each dino, shoot one poison arrow into them, wait about 30 seconds then shoot them with the equally limited pistols. You bring a raptor down with just two shots, hardly anything to worry. Quite a few of pushblocks to reach high levers and keyholes, but all in all, a rather simple and fun level (with that ever-welcoming Peruvian feel). 40 minutes. 10/08" - Treeble (14-Oct-2008)
"A small but nice level with good Peru textures (I liked the looks of the water) that consists in just a few well designed rooms and a number of puzzles and isn't very complicated at all. One drawback would be the limited ammo supplied but it's really not a problem, especially once you get your hands on the crossbow. Enemies are raptors, a skellie, a native that offers no problem since he keeps going round in circles and several bats, namely a pesky bat right at the beginning when you have no guns wahtsoever. If anything may be criticized, apart from the level's short duration, it has to be the excessive pushing/pulling that seems to be one of the author's trademarks. Play this for relaxation if you're in the middle of some far more complicated game." - Jorge22 (11-Oct-2008)
"A short but beautiful adventure! I really didn't like the fact that you have limited pistol ammo. It changes the gameplay drastically. You never know how many enemies will show up, and who you can sacrifice bullets on... I played stealthy and tried to avoid all enemies. But finished with plenty of ammo. The adventure itself is very fun and great however. Not very difficult, I was never stuck. Smart puzzles, and the level looks very beautiful. The boulders near the end were thrilling and unexpected! The builder can clearly make great levels, shame about the ammo issue in this one. Reccomended level, but be careful with ammo in the beginning!" - Thorir (07-Oct-2008)
"I usually dislike levels where there is limited pistol ammo and enemies such as raptors and skellies that can't be handled in typical Lara fashion but once the crossbow is given, there's plenty of ammo for it and the game evens out. Speaking of the crossbow, it must have been an invisible pickup because I know just what I picked up and where but there it was in my inventory and I was glad to see it. Short and sweet, this was a fun little adventure - the only drawback was a hard to spot cogwheel extending game time(or rather, search time) way beyond what it should have been but others found it easily so, not a problem for general players. A nice download, recommended." - Bene (06-Oct-2008)
"Woah, major block moving experience. Plus raptors that climb up blocks to get at you - that gave me a definite shock. You start this game with very limited supplies in your backpack - not much pistol ammo and only one small medipack - so it pays to be careful. It's a short game, but quite eventful and lively and if you like the Peru based games I can certainly recommend this one." - Jay (06-Oct-2008)
"What can you expect of a level with only 6 rooms ? The author surely has good imagination as he managed to provide an entertaining 35 minutes level with such a small map, with plenty of puzzles. The limited ammo for the pistols is not a problem as you can find early crossbow and explosive arrows. The skeleton managed to get stuck somewhere and you can dispense yourself of killing the native. I found out two funny bugs which are not a downside to the level, quite the opposite in fact. You can push the movable boxes through the wooden static barriers and thus Lara finds herself beyond the barrier, and you can return on the wooden bridge when swimming straight to it from under :] I can't rate the level any higher due to the shortness of the level, but recommend it as it is quite an entertaining one." - eRIC (05-Oct-2008)
"well a short mediocre game ... interesting is that u get bulets on standard pistols wich should be unlimited .. also u start with 1 small medipack .. well u need to be caution cos the dinos wich come could take alot off bullets untill they die and u need to spend ammo on the bats and dogs too and u have only 90 bullets .... this is silly ..... but once u get the crossbow with explosive arrows problems solved ..... alot off pushables wich come boring with time ... the aim is to get the Ancient mask ..... after u get it the game ends shortly ....... well 1 hour off gameplay .linear and moustly boring ....... cheers" - Jack& (05-Oct-2008)
"This is a neat little 45-minute level that would have been right at home in last year's BtB competition. In fact, it may well have been intended as an entry but simply wasn't completed in time. In my opinion it would have done well without being in the running for top honors. It's a fairly straightforward romp using a small game map, and its primary drawback lies in the fact that your pistol ammo is limited and you get no significant weaponry until late in the level. By that time you've had to deal with at least one raptor, and I ran out of bullets before it died. There's a diabolical block puzzle in the upstairs chamber that seems deceptively simple, only it isn't. There was plenty of ambient light, but I played it on my office computer and not at home. Suitable for beginning raiders. Recommended." - Phil (02-Oct-2008)
