Reviewer's comments
"Not a very satisfying case. Well, it looked like this: Starting the game with an epic soundtrack, hoping for a boss or something appears in the game's scene but no, to the end, you have to tolerate this background music eventually. There were lots of rooms connected to each other, but you could simply realize the pattern if you had paid a little attention to the textures and especially, the cracks in the walls, since they could be the doors to some secret rooms. Had the potential to be very great and I wish I could see more out of this game. Thanks!" - Mehrbod (07-Jul-2019)
"Not good this level for me, two mazes are too much for me to like, and the last one was terrible, so I decided to take a look at the walkthrough (thanks, DJ). I think if you miss the gem you can't go back to get it. The textures (apart from the missing ones) are the very most elongated/stretched I've ever seen in a custom level. Not marked ladders, not a single camera or a single CD track, I think this level is not worth to play for anybody. Sorry." - Jose (10-Nov-2017)
"This was a boring level. Rooms were huge, with repetitive textures, stretched, and very few use of lighting; only dark in some places. There are skeletons, mummies, boulders, puzzle items... I found the secret, which was quite well hidden. The final maze was very confusing. I didn't bother to finish it, because looks like that maze was near the level end anyway. Not recommended." - alan (09-Oct-2017)
"Trilogy, eh? Well, in all honesty, I am glad that didn't turn out to be the case because I don't think I would have bothered if the others were of this quality. Tedious gameplay with loooong ladders, two mazes (one short, one long-winded), unnecessary movable objects and vast pointless large rooms to cover. The looks don't fare any better with stretched and missing textures and a few paper thin walls scattered around. You'll not be missing out on much if you skip it." - Ryan (21-Nov-2016)
"I have absolutely no idea why this was called 'Trilogy', but in all honesty I'm glad it didn't turn out to be the first of three levels as this hasn't got a lot going for it. A level that lasts less than 30 minutes really does not need two maze sections, although the underwater maze was far less annoying than the one on dry land, which is not something I'd normally say. Other than that, gameplay is fairly rudimentary and involves avoiding a few traps and the skeletons and mummies liberally scattered around. It all looks very much thrown together too, with slapdash textures, thin walls etc. Not really one I could recommend." - Jay (07-May-2015)
"There are a couple of decent 'scare' sequences in this somewhat primitive early level - both are gauntlets involving rolling boulders.Aside from that, there is little else of gameplay note, although it must be said that the author ticks nearly every 'playable elements we all find aggravating' box;viz.unkillable enemies;a large underwater maze;pointless pushable object puzzles and the 'piece de resistance':an unkillable enemy within a very large labyrinth. There are really no compensatory factors to speak of,as can be clearly seen in the scores for the remaining categories. Not much fun." - Orbit Dream (19-Apr-2013)
"This review is a WARNING. This game includes one of the most annoying mazes ever. And if you miss one puzzle item, you need to dozy for it as there is no way back. That's why gameplay gets 1, and puzzles get 0. Enemies in this game make no sense at all as they can't harm you - next 0. Boulders in this game make no sense as well as it depends on your luck only if they squash you or not. There are lots of pushable pillars we can do nothing with or find nothing under. So objects get another 0. And for the only one secret, it's also a 0, because we find two kinds of arrows and no crossbow for them. The place barely resembles a catacomb - so may it have 1 for the atmosphere. But the sound gets 0, as the samples we can hear are from original TR and assigned for enemies and Lara's moves only. There is neither any music nor additional effects. And for the cameras - they simply don't exist. SUMMARY: Never seen such an overrated level. Never had such a satisfaction giving so many zeros, but this game deserves it a lot." - DJ Full (01-Nov-2010)
"Let me start with "catacomb..." and also with the fact no script file is provided, so every time you die, you're thrown back to the desktop. You'd think you die a lot, and you do, with unfair falling boulders after crawlspaces and the like. Also, make sure you dive into the pool, deal with the underwater maze to get the gem because if you slide down without it, you'll be stuck for good. Saying that, we all can agree that gameplay is flawed, and also suffers with wafer thin walls, stretched textures and untextured spots and annoying labyrinths that don't give a clue to the right direction. Fortunately, once you're out of there you just slide down to the end of the level. Oh, and don't bother with the numberous moveable scattered around, the first four hide ammo, but the rest of them don't serve any purpose, apparently. 25 minutes, 1 secret. 01/07" - Treeble (29-Jan-2007)
"I thought this was going to be a game in three parts then I saw there was only one tom so I thought I was going to go through three very different areas. That would be more like it alright. One of these areas is a huge deep room with high columns to jump a fountain and pool and levers. A word to the wise if you don't want to get stuck like me when you reach this fountain and waterpool go in to the pool first to get a gem otherwise you'll be stuck. There's also a lot of boulders but they can be dealt with easily if you remember that they only fall on one side of slopes the other side is safe. There were a couple of very long and steep slopes like this. One has an important pickup at the bottom. And there were 'very' high ladders to climb as well. The last maze nearly drove me mad. It's not a brilliant level but it's good for a quick raid." - CC (01-Nov-2004)
"One more catacomb level - easy and simple. Three objects to use and in a level like this Lara meets the old enemies: many skeletons and mummies. Long sliding slope and boulder spike traps and some maze before you finish the level." - Yoav (29-Jan-2004)
"The best thing about 'Trilogy' is that it's not one. The second best are some steep slide/jumps that were the high point as far as fun is concerned. What else can be said that hasn't already been noted by other reviewers? This is a very rough-around-the edges level with lots of beginner's mistakes like missing and stretched textures thin walls etc etc. So I'll use this review as a forum to air (once again) my views on mazes. Generally speaking the 'maze' as an element of gameplay is to the TRLE what paintings on black velvet of dogs playing poker are to fine art. Unless a builder has some damn clever ideas about building a maze (there have been some very creative ones) then it's better to leave it out all together. I'm not singling out this author; his level just features a couple examples of what many authors have resorted to. End of lecture." - Tombaholic (20-Jan-2004)
"I should have given zeros to this level but I'll be nice this time. First of all there is no loading screen and it has traps with spikes and spike balls also skeletons and an underwater maze. So you will certainly get smashed or drown or both. Second the textures are all stretched everywhere in every room. The items you pick up are a gem a pillar well whatever it is it's not a real puzzle and it shouldn't have been released with so many bugs. Next time at least make sure we can load a savegame or make sure we can't die." - Kristina (05-Aug-2003)
"I assumed that by the name of the level that this was a three level series but now that I've finished it I can't imagine playing three of these in a row. There are a few knots a pillar and a gem to collect by opening doors and searching rooms with a couple of long slides surprise boulders an underwater maze and then at the end another maze that's above ground. I almost gave up after I had been running around this maze forever with a skeleton chasing me when I finally found the switch that opened the next door. Turned out that was the end of the level so I felt like I had wasted my time there." - RaiderGirl (21-Feb-2003)
"Why is it always the catacomb levels that have no load screen? I can't emphasize this often enough: If you decide to have unfair spiked boulder traps in your level make sure you remember to include a load screen. Everything in this level is big; big rooms long climbs a long swim and a huge maze. Rooms are boxy textures are missing and there is an overall charmless atmosphere due to lack of lighting. There is one very steep slide that I found quite exciting but as I got stuck shortly afterwards because I hadn't climbed down earlier to collect the gem even that part of the game was ruined for me. Oh yes and that skeleton that chases you through the maze was pretty annoying but hey at least it made sure you got through it as quick as possible." - Dimpfelmoser (29-Nov-2002)
"The points I give this level is only for the time author spent making it but I actually don't see any point in playing this level I had played this a long time ago and my review is just a bit late. Don't think I can mention a thing I hated about this that the other reviewers haven't already summed up so I wont even try." - eTux (13-Aug-2002)
"This was definitely not my kind of level there just didn't seem to be any atmosphere the rooms throughout were quite empty there seemed to be a lot of spiked boulder booby traps that left too much to chance usually meaning death crashes back to desktop and some of the textures were extremely stretched making them appear blurry. I guess I should point out one of this levels good points but there just wasn't anything that noteworthy that couldn't be found elsewhere." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"Thankfully this level lasted less than half an hour. Nothing really special about it other than maybe a few neat steep slides chased by boulders with a jump at the end. Not sure why it would be called Trilogy? Found one secret and hated the underwater maze as well as the above ground one." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This is another one of those annoying levels that crashes to the desktop every time Lara dies. Unacceptable. There were heaps of boulder traps and bloody steep slides in this one and way too many skeletons running around getting in your way and as you had no effective way of dealing with them it was pretty damn frustrating." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"I don't mind traps not even boulder traps. But if that means been thrown to my desktop every time Lara dies that is not much fun. I didn't like this level apart from the traps mentioned above I even didn't like the mazes. Could be me but I was running around like a chicken without her head." - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
