Reviewer's comments
"I like dark levels and the author promises on that part, it's pretty dark but that's about it. I don't get what the author was trying out as it was a demo level. You shoot about 6 prehistoric enemies, the first one immediately going after you as your start and then I still could hear another one but didn't find it. So I was left a bit...in the dark what to think of this. Found no end of level trigger but maybe I did not wear the right shoes. My footsteps sounded very squishy though so probably the consequence of all the enemies I killed...gross!" - bERT (05-Oct-2022)
"I kind of wonder why this level is having such a high mark ... I played it out and thanks to Jose I was even able to understand there was an end trigger and found it atrocious from beginning to end, the same animated texture, almost placed everywhere, eccessive darkness, some interesting but shallow jumping sequences and some of the most annoying enemies in Tomb raider history. There is nothing to this, the horizon is from Tomb Raider 3 gold and it is he best thing about this game. I am not making this up, there really is not anything to the game that makes it likeable on any degree, and that is all. Not recommended. Wolfy Regards." - Wolf7 (13-Jan-2021)
"Certainly a very short demo. Yes, the horizon looks good but all the entire area except the pyramids is textured with the same animated texture tile (Atlantean), and the ambience is so dark that I was forced to use a savegame editor to add more flares and finally finish the level. What you can found here is to shoot some ameths only with pistols, climb to an upper platform, shoot another ameth and find an unmarked pillar to climb and reach the finish trigger. At least, this level could be more playable without the excessive darkness. Not worth to play." - Jose (09-Jan-2018)
"You certainly can't fault the title; it says it all. Having fired this up, admired the rather impressive scenery and shot a few ahmets, I had no idea what to do next and accordingly went to the walkthrough for assistance. Yoav's pithy two sentence walkthrough made me laugh out loud so I don't consider this a wasted experience. Next." - Jay (06-Oct-2017)
"Dark? Yes. Island? Also, yes. Involving gameplay? Not really. Shooting a few ahmets is all you do and then ponder on how you got here in the first place. It's really "Lara on a futuristic, dark platform" than anything else." - Ryan (14-May-2017)
"An incredibly short demo where we find ourselves slaughtering six ahmets out in the middle of nowhere within space(with a somewhat appropriate horizon from TR3 Gold in the background and questionably-placed animated TR1 Atlantis textures on the surfaces we find ourselves happening to be standing on), before using the flycheat to access the upper structure and illegitimately reach the finish trigger that we wouldn't have been able to get to otherwise, concluding within only a couple minutes of playtime. Personally, I don't see much value with this one nowadays. So you'd be better off just skipping this one entirely, if you're not someone wanting to play every release available on the site or a reviewer looking for an easy level to clear off their massive backlog." - Ceamonks890 (25-Nov-2014)
"Being interested by the very short walkthrough but still relatively high reviews, I decided to give this one a try. Yes, I found the horizon good and also the changing textures, but not the textures itself as they didn't appeal me at a closer look. Few ahmets to kill - that's all what one can do. I think this level is overrated." - manarch2 (30-Jun-2011)
"Well, the title is at least half-right. If you need to sum up the experience this level offers, there hardly is a more appropriate word than DARK for that. I cannot say this would pass as an island in my book, but then again - it would not pass as a decent level either with barely anything to do here. You can fight the Ahmets and climb up a few levels of this weird pulsating structure till you hit the finish trigger and that's about it. The highlight and probably the only reason anyone should give this a second glance is the wonderfully weird atmosphere supported by the pulsating textures and the horizon. There definitely was potential there for something interesting to grow out of this, but it seems either the builder's lack of skills or lack of determination hindered that from ever happening." - eTux (07-Aug-2009)
"Six ahmets and some sort of tower textured with the flesh texture from TR1 Atlantis. I tried getting up but I couldn't get to the catwalks but since there was nothing up there I suppose it's for the best. Curiously, the zip provides no readme and the wad is named "inch", to add insult to the injury the scripts are from Celtic Folly too, so I can't help but wonder if some dummy had downloaded this, discarded it right away since basically what it offers is zip, and then went on with their lives believeing this was the actual Celtic Folly? 5 minutes. 05/08" - Treeble (29-May-2008)
"Lara in some dark alien planet with 7-8 ahmets around. This is only demo and it's good if it will stay like this." - Yoav (08-Mar-2004)
"This isn't a level really. I spent five minutes killing mutants which I hate and climbing the rocks to end the level. It doesn't worth it if you are looking for a level to play with a story line enemies and puzzles but it has a magnificent view. The textures are great and you see planets all around. It is very dark and it has to be in order for the textures to be seen rightly. Don't try to reload you will get thrown to the desktop." - Kristina (05-Aug-2003)
"Small wonder those nasty toothy things were in a temper; they'd been stranded on a lump of rock floating in space with no-where else to go. No offense to the designer (who did a neat enough job with this) but as this is another of those 'futuristc levels with crazy textures' then I'm quite pleased that the demo apparently went no further." - Orbit Dream (23-Jun-2003)
"This is like no 'island' I've ever seen before and is almost entirely covered with the pulsating flesh textures from Tomb Raider One. Your only objective is to do a little climbing and kill a few ahmets. I can't see where the author is going to take this if he ever completes it but I hope there's more than this." - RaiderGirl (20-Feb-2003)
"With only three rooms (on top if each other I guess) this is a very small demo indeed and it reminded me of the first room of Dark Lair with all that pulsating flesh. You fight the ahmets and then there is even a bit of jumping and exploring to do but sadly enough I never reached the catwalk high above. The gloomy atmosphere is great and the apocalyptic nightsky makes it all the more sinister so I think it's a pity that this seems one of the many demos that never evolved into a full scale level." - Dimpfelmoser (02-Dec-2002)
"Wow what a demo. This is ultra short a five minutes but it is just as well as the sphincter was working overtime here. The author's use of what I call living textures that move and undulate was extremely well done. At the outset you land in a dark mysterious world and are immediately set upon by half a dozen ahmets. Dispose of them do some climbing and jumping and unfortunately that's it but what an introduction to something that may yet be. I hope the author finishes this." - Torry (09-Sep-2002)
"If this demo ever becomes a level I won't play it late at night. On the other hand it is a dark level so I would give it a miss. Choosing between a headache or playing a level the choice for me is easy. The textures and horizon are out of this world. And then the fighting begins. You only have Lara's trusted guns so you better be good. 07-07-2002" - Gerty (10-Jul-2002)
"On an alien planet it seems Lara has found herself but she isn't alone! Right from the start of this 5 minutes demo you have to whip out your guns and take care of five evil ahmets in almost pitch black lighting after that there isn't much else to do but climb some pillars to a higher platform where you will find the long lost brother to the earlier pack of ahmets and then end the level after climbing one last pillar. Hopefully this won't be one of those demos where we never see an eventuating full length version because the wondrously coloured encircling horizon with the many moons or planets seems like a very interesting place to raid." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"Alright it is a demo and it has only three rooms and seven ahmets to kill but take the five minutes to have a look at it anyway. The horizon and the pulsating textures really make for a cool atmosphere." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"It's a demo I know but I expected a level with more than 5 minutes! It's a very dark level with only three textures (!) and a very weird architecture. In the beginning you must fight some ahmets but you can't see then (it's VERY dark) so there's no emotion there. After that you must climb some walls and... end! Not worth a download but let's wait for the full version." - Leandro (21-Jun-2002)
"This dark island is not in south pacific but somewhere in the cosmos or maybe it's a forgotten island in Atlantis. The beginning is great: when Lara arrives she is attacked by several monsters she must kill with only her pistols as there are no pickups absolutely nothing in this desolate place except half a dozen monsters. Well it's a demo (well done) so there is not much to do in it except climbing and making some jumps and it is of course quite short. I hope that one day this author will make a true level as he is skilled to create good and frightening atmosphere. You can take a look to this one for the strange textures (the rocks seem to breathe) and the beautiful horizon and to have a thrill or two." - eRIC (21-Jun-2002)
