Reviewer's comments
"Another debut level that remained an only child. Shame really, as there’s potential here. It’s a perfectly serviceable Karnak style level and, whilst the gameplay isn’t in any way outstanding, there are enough fun moments to enjoy. Initially, I thought it was going to be a lovely, light level; boy was I wrong. Parts of the interior are extremely gloomy and I assume the torches were to provide light in the absence of more flares as I never found any other use for them." - Jay (09-Oct-2019)
"This is mostly quite simple and straightforward for a debut level and the gameplay is primarily focused around the usual "find item to open door that leads to another door" style of progression which shouldn't stump anyone for very long. But the occasional nice touch crops up once in a while in the form of nice camera work, a couple of nice jumping sequences and the multiple boulder traps near the end which do require some thought to get past. But the decision of the builder to plunge the majority of the indoor areas into complete darkness was poor in my opinion and I had to constantly flare around looking for something to do until I happened across the next objective (word of advice - for the target shooting, you might want to throw a flare through the crack first before shooting). Enemies are rare but strategic enough and secrets are well hidden but again, mostly in darkness. A mixed bag, but tastes differ so why not give it a try?" - Ryan (05-Apr-2018)
"A good level from year 2002. I liked roofs pathways and waterpools. Enemies are quite basic and there could be more lighting. Textures need more fine-tuning. Atmosphere and cameras are good. Recommendable level for players which have 30 min time." - vienna (14-Apr-2017)
"Well, not a bad level, but only based about look for items in openings hidden in dark places; so be prepared to explore carefully all the rooms, specially the dark corners. There are also some traps to avoid and a couple of targets to shoot. Very few enemies, as far as I can remember, only some crocs in the water areas, I think I've used the shotgun only once. As usual in the levels from that age, the rooms are very nude of objects, the texturization is decent but many rooms are totally black, so don't waste the precious flares. The best: some camera shots and the musics. Don't expect great features here." - Jose (11-Aug-2016)
"This is as simple as it can be. The linear path is often just a 1-block dark corridor. Sometimes a whole room is made of one texture and zero lightbulbs. But when a bulb or texture is finally used, it always makes sense. Same applies to few enemies located where they belong, and to decoration objects - I think all statics were just light rays of a single yet well used type, and two obelisks nicely surrounding the temple entrance. Secrets have a great impact, making playing much easier, as well as do the torches. SUMMARY: And so the level gains unexpectedly good atmosphere despite of minimalistic resources used. You can try it." - DJ Full (19-Aug-2015)
"This Egyptian level , based on the Karnak Wad with the addition of a demigod and some objects is a good level. Enemies are few , you spent most of the time inside dark rooms and it seemed to me that I collected flares when I needed them the less ; there is also a couple of torches that have no other purpose than providing extra light , but at the time you get them they have little use, and the placement of the first one placed just before a crawlspace was confusing as this can let you think there is a torch puzzle to solve beyond the crawlspace. These little remarks aside, this is a well made level , the quest for the pyramidal keys was fun especially the two first at the start, and the running up on the big ramp with the spiked balls was also a good moment. The rooms are rather bare but that suits fine the good overall atmosphere and I liked walking through the beams of light coming from the ceiling. 30 minutes , 3 secrets." - eRIC (01-Dec-2008)
"A quite nice level that only lasted for fifteen minutes. The level is linear and there isn't much to do but what would really have helped is better lighting. The torches help but it's still hard to see where you're going since the level is incredibly dark. Overall though the level was quite enjoyable the short time it lasted." - Magnus (29-Jan-2004)
"This French author gave us an interesting level... for a first level this is not bad but a bit short. between 20-30 minutes for the quicks... The are lot of puzzles and a good atmosphere! To do if you have a bit of time... good luck Eric Menaut for your next levels! I will do yours with pleasure !^^" - Neso (20-Apr-2003)
"Indeed it's a nice debut but it's too dark for my taste. There were NOT enough flares and quite often I was shooting my pistols. Strangely you get to pick up more flares later in the level and you don't use all of them because the level became brighter. Enemies were quite few but the demigod added in the main room of the sanctuary was a nice touch. You have to find several pickups to open the doors to go further on the level so gameplay was not exciting overall especially when you find the first two guardian keys to open the initial door in the same area. Easy but then again it's just the first level from this author." - Treeble (21-Dec-2002)
"You can just tell when you start this one outside that anytime soon you are going to find yourself inside a dark tomb and dark it is. Thankfully at a couple of stages you get some torches to help and you also make a slight detour outside but the darkness inside was quite stifling. As a first work this is 25 minute level is solidly built but as others have said the place looks a little barren though to me it fit the feel of the level to be devoid of objects although I wish it could have been devoid of those damn boulders as each time I first met up with one or more I always came out the loser. All up it's a nice short level with 3 secrets to find just see if you can collect both guardian keys at the start without going for a swim." - Sash (04-Dec-2002)
"The level started outside in a bright sunny area but the rest of the level didn't seem like much of a sanctuary to me. It is rather exciting at moments however as you come across a number of spiked boulders targets to shoot crocs and a demigod in your search for a number of Guardian's Keys and Golden Vraeus. I found two secrets and there may have been more but the majority of the level is way too dark which I found to be very frustrating. Otherwise a straightforward 25 minute level that won't have you stuck ever but does offer up some challenging moments." - RaiderGirl (26-Nov-2002)
"Although this is a well made and enjoyable level to play there is a glaring error with the gameplay. In the maze I picked up a Guardian key and (instead of using it to acquire the revolver and lasersight) exited and placed the key in the lock of one of the doors. About 3 minutes later the level ended; with several doors still to be opened. What I should have done was used the Pistol to shoot some targets but these were impossible to see unless you knew exactly where to look (a burning flame in the target room would have been sufficient). I replayed again and completed it properly but the fact that nearly half the level could be avoided is a serious flaw. Hence only 5 for the gameplay where 7 or 8 should have been more appropriate. Still as I said the level is well made with a quite convincing atmosphere and a good selection of new twists on old puzzles." - Orbit Dream (05-Nov-2002)
"For what I believe to be a first effort this was a well-done one. A little 'bare bones' but still some exciting gameplay to be had. I had to ask for help just didn't see those targets but once done it ran smoothly. A few tricky jumps and an evil boulder trap but not much in the way of enemies." - Momster (30-Oct-2002)
"On the one hand this debut is rather straightforward with rather plain and boring texturing and also quite a linear 40 minutes quest. But as you find your five guardian keys three vraeus and three secrets along the way fighting off just a few crocodiles and scorpions and one lonely red ninja you can't help but think that the author did put in some really good ideas (like the target shooting some of the camera work the boulder avalanche etc.). Then of course he spoils it by a series of pitch black rooms and that did ruin the experience a bit for me - even if I did have enough flares." - Michael (27-Oct-2002)
"Even if this level is nothing brilliant I somehow did like some parts of it. I liked how you get from the water room inside the tower and then jump around the sand dunes to get the 2 keys the rolling ball slopes were fun and so was the target shooting. Also it's quite dark with insufficient flares even if you get 2 torches at some points. Not overly hard though you just have to search all the area to find the missing key item sometimes they are hidden quite well and this could get you stuck for a bit but not too long. Not a bad level and you may surely give this a try if you want to." - eTux (24-Oct-2002)
"Lara has to find her way into a tomb. Collecting 5 guardians keys and 3 Vraeus on her way to the end. There is some nice jumping in this level. You'll even get to use a torch two times in fact. I clung on the torch like a mad woman cause you never know if there is a torch puzzle. There isn't in this level it is in place of flares as this is a dark level and I mean pitch black at some places. You'll find a shotgun and a revolver plus laser-sight. The latter you need to shoot some disks that are very nicely hidden. Enemies are 3 crocs and one ninja and some lost scorpions and there is a very very mean boulder trap. Found 2 secrets. 12-10-2002" - Gerty (23-Oct-2002)
"After five guardian keys and two vraeus this level finishes. The few crocodiles and couple of ninjas are not a real threat and the puzzles are not interesting. You begin near a pool searching for the guardian keys and getting the shotgun you proceed and the only thing you see is empty rooms with some torches around. There are spike balls and a blade trap as well as some burning tiles on the way but nothing too difficult. I don't know if this was the first attempt to build a level but it sure looks like it. You get a torch twice along the way and the revolver with the laser-sight to shoot the targets and go further. That's all this level has to offer although the atmosphere wasn't too bad at places it was dark black - something I never liked. It lasted twenty minutes." - Kristina (22-Oct-2002)
"It's plain it's simple and there aren't many enemies but I enjoyed the 25 minutes of gameplay immensely. No maze no crawlspaces instead you get some entertaining jumping target shooting a swim with a crocodile and a brilliant spiked boulder trap. At one stage you'll find a torch and I thought I might need that later on to solve a puzzle so I tried to get through the game with the torch (which becomes really tricky when you come to the lake) but apparently it is there so that you don't have to use so many flares when you grope your way through the dark hallways. The texturing is a bit basic in some areas but I liked the shafts of white light that filter through the ceiling gates in the corridors where you find the revolver. It's all rather linear and straightforward with a moderate degree of difficulty so you won't get stuck but that's a good thing isn't it?" - Dimpfelmoser (22-Oct-2002)
"A very straight-forward level Egyptian in flavour with a few guardian keys and vraeus to find I found this a good effort for the authors first level. I especially liked his use of traps even had to ask for help at one point (thanks FairyGodfather!) and the main room inside the Sanctuary was quite nice. A few things though the rooms and outdoors were too bare and too much the same they needed more objects and variety of textures. Also the rooms weren't just too dark they were pitch black. A couple of those rooms always add a nice touch but too many can really overdo it. The gameplay was not bad a nice easy level for a beginner and maybe his next offering will be a bit more challenging to us hardcore Raiders." - Litepulsar (22-Oct-2002)
