Reviewer's comments
"I came upon this level after having seen a recent review, saw it was a maze and I love mazes so here I am. What I liked about the level: 1) It’s a maze! 2) Lara’s outfit is perfect (thank you for the sleeves). 3) Tons of torches and a flame to light them instead of having to use endless flares. 4) No enemies!... always gets good marks in my books. What I didn’t like: 1) When I found out that the builder simply created one maze then copied it 24 times, I’ll admit I was furious. If anything, it’s an insult to mazes! Negative marks for that cheap trick. 2) To have only torches at the beginning was kind of useless because once you drop the torch as a “Hansel & Gretel” type breadcrumb, you have to go back to the beginning to get more. If the builder truly wanted to copy the maze 24 times, then why not include the torches and flame source. Too much work, eh? Okay so yes, I was truly pissed off after seeing how the builder built this maze. Normally, I give so much respect for maze-type levels, but since the builder didn’t respect the true nature of a magnificently created maze, I didn’t see the point either (ok, 1 point for the outfit)." - Lizard Queen (01-Feb-2021)
"I think the walkthrough sums this up beautifully. Just follow it if you really don’t want to spend the rest of your life in this level!" - Jay (18-Jan-2021)
"Still can't understand where is the fun when running with no sense through a very huge and claustrophobic maze trying to find the exit without hints. Fortunately there's a map and that way everybody can reach the exit in five minutes or so. There's a new custom music and the author gives a torch to light the way, but that's all. Don't wait for any surprise in between." - Jose (22-Jan-2018)
"I nearly lost my sanity in this maze. I didn't make it to the finish trigger, but I decided I had seen enough and wanted to avoid more tedious aimless wandering around. It all looks nice, but the gameplay was a painful drudge. Only recommended for maze fetishists and/or die-hard reviewers." - Ryan (18-Nov-2016)
"Yes, this is a primitively built maze with constant lighting (only disturbed by the torches, which I will mention later), with copied rooms, correct but boring texturing, no other objects than torches, but I somehow agree to bERT that the torches are really cleverly used to mark corridors that you have already visited, just like in the minotaurus labyrinth using Ariadne's thread. But still not a good game and not recommended in any case. Using the walkthrough map, I finished in 5 minutes." - manarch2 (19-Jun-2011)
"I had the same idea of building a level several weeks ago: I created one room with some walls and copied it several times. But then my PC crashed and I didn't bother to rebuild the maze, so I'm glad someone did this for me and I don't have to create something like this anymore. And now, seriously: I played this level only because I wanted to write a review. I was trying for two minutes only to go through the labyrinth without Fexinspect. But what I must say I liked the background music, kinda attracting, giving a player a funny illusion of being on some serious and mysterious mission, making you feel these walls and that floor, which suddenly seem to be epic in their all-embracing emptiness. SUMMARY: A maze. Just a maze, nothing more." - DJ Full (18-Sep-2010)
"If you like mazes, this one will be right up your street. In fact, this is the sort of level that's ultimately beyond criticism as the interconnected tunnels are all competantly lit and textured and the custom audio does what it's supposed to do;it's simply that this is not the sort of level that most people particularly want to play. How I found the finish trigger in anything under half-an-hour I don't know, but it was undoubtedly with triumph and not a little relief that I finally ran toward that waterized wall and found that the ordeal was actually over. Not all that bad ultimately, but why anyone else would want to play it is quite beyond me." - Orbit Dream (10-May-2008)
"It is certainly a Labyrinth." - Cory (10-May-2008)
"The title already announces what you will be facing - a maze. Nothing more and nothing less. A little bit tiresome but ok. Though not sure if it's worth the download - well, unless you like labyrinths." - Tinka (27-Oct-2005)
"I have to say that this author is a genius because he created a confusing labyrinth he only provided one hint that would break the monotony of the textures of the level and he prevented anyone from cracking the maze's code (no one has ever managed to make a walkthrough for this level). On the other hand since I found this maze a little bit frustrating I can't give a 10 for gameplay. The textures may be dull but for the sake of exhausting one's brain they are necessary. The music and the darkness of the level (even though the rooms are brightened by the torch) give an eerie atmosphere to this maze despite the fact that it doesn't contain any danger (aside from driving you insane if you want fast-paced gameplay). Lara really must've been annoyed since the author 'dragged' Lara from her mansion and put her in this maze. In order to reel her in he 'told' her that his maze contained a valuable artifact. But she will eventually realize that it's just a maze consisting of 26 copies of a single room. At the same time the player becomes a lab mouse who's being tested by the author. In this level the author is conducting the following experiment: 'Can a player be easily attracted to a finishing trigger?' The answer is no and he's also mocking you obviously. If you want to make fun of yourself download this level immediately." - Sakusha (08-Aug-2004)
"Simple maze level with 10 torches that I did not find any use for - don't bother..." - Yoav (12-May-2004)
"A HUGE labyrinth - but pretty easy. After roaming for 20 minutes like a headless skeleton I decided to have a look at the map using Rview. You have no idea what I found out - if you have a feeling that you have already been to that room believe you had. The author built only one maze room and from there he simply copied and pasted it over and over. After finding that out I finished the level in 5 minutes! I have no idea why there were so many torches and the only way you can kill Lara is getting her on fire. Even the water you see on the end of the level is useless because you can't reach it without hitting the finish trigger. About the textures well only 3 tiles were used at all I think and I liked the background sound which the author himself created. Pity it 'cuts' in the end instead of fading out." - Treeble (24-Jan-2004)
"A simple maze that will take you all of four minutes to complete (go right). I did like that the author provided the torch and somewhere to light it so that you did not have the incessant worry of lighting flares. Nice touch but apart from that very tiresome." - Torry (09-Mar-2003)
"The title says it all - this level consists of a labyrinth with nothing added for interest. No enemies no traps no interesting textures - just some new music to listen to as you run along for ten minutes keeping the wall to your right or left whichever you prefer. Then you get to a black texture and it's over. I went into a brain fog after a minute or two and just sort of ran around without really thinking about what I was doing and was glad when it was over. Many of the sections seemed to be copies so it could make you feel as if you were retracing your steps but really everything just looks alike. I'm not sure if the torches would be helpful - I didn't touch any of them." - RaiderGirl (18-Feb-2003)
"Probably because this is a TR4 file and added sound files that could explain the large download but I am glad I am not the only one that hates mazes. Just keep to the right or left whatever takes your fancy till you get thrown to your desktop. Not much more to do. 16-02-2003" - Gerty (18-Feb-2003)
"As a Raider I should have given this all zero's but I couldn't because: (1) this is not just a labyrinth; it's clear the author did not just raise walls like that he made it a real tough cookie to crack; (2) he made it a real labyrinth experience in giving us the one TR object with which we can mark places already visited that is torches. On the other hand I could not give this all 10's either because no matter what tactic you use you have to run a lot and the reward is zippo...one dark wall tile and you're thrown to the menu. A door leading us to a clear blue sky would have given a very rewarding feeling. Nice as an idea (though we have seen many TR labyrinths already). Not for the impatient because the accompanying music will drive you nuts after a while...or get you into a trance." - bERT (13-Feb-2003)
"A ridiculous 11Mb for a five minute maze that had the same coastal texture throughout and even had sections of the maze repeated over and over again for either player confusion or creator laziness whatever the reason it just isn't value for download I'm sorry to say." - Sash (11-Feb-2003)
"So I'm having trouble with my Tomb2PC program and I went in search of levels that were released as TR4 files. Despite the fact that the title alone made me queasy I decided to download 'Labyrinth' for the above reason and I am here to tell you: don't make the same mistake! What a perfectly wretched level - an endless series of uniformly textured winding corridors. Well yes I suppose that it is what the name advertises. The problem is there is nothing else here: gameplay puzzles enemies objects or anything remotely interesting are all completely absent. The most disturbing thing is that I actually wandered around this thing for 15 minutes until I stumbled on the exit trigger - a sure sign that I should seek professional help." - Tombaholic (11-Feb-2003)
"Ok the outfit is cool and the ambience sound works well but other than that this is as the title implies a uniformly textured maze which you need to run through (with a torch in your hand if you wish). I chose the 'left hand on the wall' strategy and made my way out after 13 minutes." - Michael (10-Feb-2003)
"I would really like to know why the download was 11MB for just a labyrinth with nothing in it except torches on the floor and a basket to light them. I only used one and started running on one side of the small and narrow hallway that's the only way to proceed if you ever want to get out of a maze. After a little more than ten minutes the level ended and I am still very angry for the big download and a level that has nothing to offer except nice audio." - Kristina (10-Feb-2003)
