The Lost Temple of Atlantis

This level starts you out underwater, facing ruined obelisks, pillars and a
tunnel opening. There's nothing here to do as currents keep you from exploring
the water bed, so swim into the tunnel and up into a small pool. Look around
before you get out. On one wall, you'll see three small grates with goodies
underneath them. By another wall you'll see a burning basket and a doorway
behind you. The grates are dart emitters, and you'll set them off as soon as
you climb out of the pool. To save time and crawling, head towards the grate
with the red crowbar underneath and climb out on the right side of it while staying
close to the wall. Crawl underneath the darts to get the goodies, then turn
around and head towards the doorway past the burning basket.
Follow the hallway to a keyhole at the end and an alcove with the Star
of Zoe 1 in the wall with a trapdoor underneath.
Use the crowbar to pry the Star of Zoe out of the
wall. After Lara picks up the star the trap door will fall, plunging lara into a water filled corridor.
Swim to the end and climb out where a nasty skeleton will greet you. Don't
shoot it yet. Climb up onto the ledge above, where another skeleton will
appear. Quickly turn around and use the crossbow w/ explosive arrows on it.
I've found this usually takes both skeletons out. If not, you can take your
time shooting the other skeleton, as he just seems to walk around below.
Across from the ledge you climbed out on, there's another ledge with a
metal gate. Through the bars you can see a star-shaped receptacle. Follow the
hallway to a deep gap and monkeyswing across. On the
other side you'll see a trap door. Jump over, as Lara will fall to her death if
she steps on it. Keep going until you get to another trap door. Jump over this
one, too, to keep from falling; but you'll see this one has a ladder, so climb
down to a brightly lit area with lots of goodies and a face mask of a pharoah on the wall. Climb back up and continue down the
corridor until you get to the other side of that gate we saw earlier.
Place the Star of Zoe 1 in the receptacle and
a cutscene will follow, showing a key appearing on
the other side of the gate. So, go back down the corridor to retrieve the Gate
Key. Be careful, though, as there is steam coming out of a grate underneath the
key. Now that you have the key, it's time to go back to the keyhole we saw
earlier. Jump in the water and swim back to the area where you got the Star of Zoe. Climb out and turn left and use the key you just got.
The gate in front of you will open to a narrow room with a slope with
water at the bottom. Slide down into the water into what I call the main area. Look
around and you'll see a dark opening above near the one you just fell through,
a cage in the corner with an opening above it and another area off to the left.
Swim to the area on the left and you'll find another Gate Key. Swim back to the
main area and up to the dark opening. Climb out and make your way up the ledges
and down the other side. Light a flare here. Go left and you'll notice a deep
pit. Make a running jump across and go left to a pole. Slide down the pole and
you'll see a door and a keyhole. Use the gate key and go through the now open
door.
You'll see a button with a picture of a pharoah
on it. Push the button and the camera will show you another pole. Go back
through the doorway and turn right and climb the pole. Backflip off the pole. In
this room, there's an water hole that leads into the
gated area we saw earlier. Jump into the water and swim down to the Star of Zoe 2. Take it and a cutcene
will show you that the trapdoor close to where you found the second gate key is
now open.
Backtrack your way back to the main water room (remembering that nasty,
dark pit) and swim to the newly opened trapdoor. Climb up and place the Star of
Zoe 2 in the receptacle, which will open a door. Notice
the trap door behind the door. Go forward and the trapdoor will drop, revealing
a dark slope. Slide down and onto another slope. Go towards and turn left and
up the ramp and the door at the end will rise. Go into the next room and go
past the icy central pillar and turn left to pick up some flares, watching out
for a hidden spike pit. Turn around and go towards the hallway with steam
emitters on the walls. I found that waiting for the first set of emitters to
stop and then sprinting through worked well for me. You may find diving through
works better for you.
Once you enter the room past the steam hallway, a pillar will rise,
revealing a pedestal with what looks like a cartouche on top. Go to the
pedestal and notice the skeletons on the floor. Take the WA Pillar and
quickly draw the crossbow and use an explosive arrow, which should take out
both skeletons. You will probably have already noticed that taking the WA
Pillar triggered an energy bolt which opened another door behind where the
skeletons were. Go through the door and notice that on the other side is a door and a keyhole. Go to the left and climb up into
the ledges to another deep pit you'll be monkeyswinging
across.
After crossing the gap, turn around and grab the end of the frame and
climb up on top. Run across and climb up some more ledges. Go all the way to
the end of the corridor and press the button which will reveal a key in the
room before the pit with the climbing frame. Backtrack and collect the Gate
Key. Climb out and use it on the door in the same room. Go through the corridor
and climb out into a large room with a fountain. Practically underneath the
ledge Lara is standing on now is an underwater runnel. There are three doors -
to the left, right and across the room. Jump in the water and swim to the
central pillar with the underwater switches - there's one on each side. Pull
them all. One will show a cut scene of an underwater gate opening. The other
switches open the three doors. You don't have to visit the rooms in any order,
but the North and South rooms you have to finish to get back to the fountain
area.
SOUTH ROOM: ROOM WITH JACKALS AND GOLDEN SCORPION
Bug Note - If Lara catches on fire by climbing/jumping onto the block
with the golden scorpion, and you try to douse her flames by jumping into the
water in the fountain room, Lara will continue to be on fire - even underwater.
To remedy this, save your game and then reload it. Lara will no longer be on
fire.
Climb into the South opening and up the ladder. After you go past the
next door, it will shut behind you. Go foward into
the room with with a golden scorpion on a pedestal
and jackal statues. There are a lot of switches in here. You have to find out
the right switches to pull and in the right combination. The wrong switch will
set Lara on fire. If you need help, I've included a diagram below.
Shoot the Jackals from above. Don't bother with the golden scorpion. No
matter how you use the rest of the switches, Lara will catch on fire when she
climbs on the block. Return to the ladder and climb all the way up and into a
small corridor with a jump switch at the end which opens an underwater gate in
the fountain room. Climb back down and return to the fountain room.
NORTH ROOM : ROOM WITH LAVA PIT AND PILLARS
Climb into the North opening and continue onto the trap doors. Lara will
be dropped onto a slope and will end up in a room with a central lava pool and
several pillars. Quickly find your way past a few pillars and jump over to the
central ledge of the lava pool. You woke up some skeletons when you entered.
Wait for them to jump over to you and them blast them into the lava with the
shotgun. Or, if you have any explosive crossbow ammo left, you can probably
take them both out with one shot. Jump back over to the pillars, find the
shortest one and start climbing. You'll run into a few flame emitters along the
way, so do a standing jump to the pillar below them and wait till the flame
stops. Quickly pull up and hit the roll button and then backflip
onto the next pillar. Continue untill you get to a
jump switch. Pull it - a cutsecene will show an
underwater gate opening - and jump down to the pillar below and jump into an
opening the switch opened. Follow the hallways to the area where you fell
through the trap door and return to the fountain room.
EAST ROOM : HALLWAY WITH RAISING BLOCKS
Climb into the East opening and up the ladder. Go fowards
and turn left at the next opening and climb up the ladders to a corridor with a
button and darkness at the end. Draw your pistols before going fowards, as there are some bats up ahead. Take care of them
and push the button, which will raise a block below. Light a flare and go to
the dark end of the corridor for a small medi-pack. Another
bat will attack as you get near it. Shoot it, go back and climb down the
ladders and onto the block you raised and another bat will greet you. Take it
out and push the button. Another block will be raised to the right. Climb up
onto it and climb the ledges and push another button. This raises another block
underneath a jumpswitch in the same area.
Climb back down and go left and use the jump switch which opens an
underwater gate in the fountain room. Return to the fountain room.
Back at the fountain room, go to the West side where you first entered
and jump into the water. Swim down into the underwater passage and follow it. A
current will grab Lara and pull her to another gate which will open when Lara
gets there.
Swim through into a larger underwater room and head to the end and swim
up and surface. As soon as you climb out, two jackals will come out of the dark
corner in front of you. Deal with them and proceed through the doorway between
the burning vases. Follow the hallway to a stone room with gold columns. Go foward and the left mummy case opens, revealing a mummy. Pull
the switch, which opens the right mummy case, revealing a corridor to a gold
room and another switch. Go through the corridor to the gold room and pull the
switch. A large door in the room you just came from opens. Go back through the
mummy case and through the now open door. Follow the short hallway into a large
room with a big and really deep pit.
Bug Note - Many people have encountered a savegame
bug in this area, where savegames became corrupt and
crashed the game to the desktop or Lara would be stuck in a very small black
room when you reloaded. I suggest you do not save until after you have finished
this area.
Climb down the ladders of the pit and pull a switch by a gate. Wouldn't
you know it would open another gate above the pit? Climb back up and go through
the opened gate and push the button. A cutscene will
follow, showing the stone head - water is coming out of the mouth and into the
pit. The gate at the bottom of the pit is now open, so climb back down and
through the opened gate to the end of the room and climb up onto the ledge to
get the key for the door above. Climb back up and use the key on the door. Go
down the hallway past another door and up the ladder into a room with some
mummy cases and gold blocks.
As soon as you step onto the floor, a skeleton will wake up behind one
of the gold blocks and try and sneak up on you while another skeleton will come
at you from across the room. Take care of them and start looking around.
Between a mummy case and an egyptian
statue is some crossbow ammo. As soon as you pick it up, two scorpions will
come at you and a jackal will appear on one of the blocks. Take them out and
pull the switch on the north wall. This will open a trap door in the ceiling
above a ladder to the left of the switch. Climb up the ladder and pull the
switch in that room to close the trapdoor again. Then push the button above the
trap door and Lara will fall back down. Climb down the other ladder and you'll
find that the previously closed door is now open.
Follow the hallway to a small alcove with a switch. Turn towards the way
you came and go left. Keep going until you reach a large room with a climbable
pillar in the middle. Go across the room and behind the structure that looks
like a big box with a smaller one on top and find the button. Push it and go to
the central pillar where it opened a hole in the floor by the pillar. Look
before you jump down. There's a short slope and a small pit with spikes. Hop
down and almost as soon as you hit the slope, press both the jump and foward buttons. You'll land on a ledge with another button.
Push it and the trap door below the climable side of
the pillar will open.
Turn around and jump at the ladder and grab it. Climb up and backflip off the ladder. The button also raised a block by
the structure where you pushed the other button. Climb up the structure and
onto what looks like a pyramid. Go to the west edge of the pyramid and you'll
see an opening in the West wall. Jump into the opening and follow the tunnel
and down the slope at the end, which will drop you in a pool. Swim fowards and then right where you can climb out.
To the left there's a gate and in the front wall to the right is a small
underwater passage. Swim through the passage and pull a switch in the ceiling. Swim
back through and go through the opened gate. Climb out into a room with four
slopes.
Head north and through the bluish doorway. Head your
way to the back past the pillars. A jackal will greet you as you spot
the button on the wall. Retun to the room with the
slopes and another jackal will greet you on the way. Be careful when you get
close to the doorway, as the putton has set off a
poison dart emitter. It has also raised a block in the slopes room. Climb on
top of it and up into a stairway. Go through the stairway and the large room
with the blue floor into a corridor with an alcove to the right with a golden
scorpion on a pedestal.
There's also a ramp and a trap door to the left. There's a sinking tile
in front of the alcove, so run across the tile and as far fowards
as you can. Wait there until you hear a spike ball falling and you see the
trapdoor open and the ball fall in. Head up the ramp and to the left and to the
bright white area where the finish trigger kicks in. Congrats! You've
finished this level. =o)
