BtB 2006 - Level 13 - Qinghai Artefact

There are five secrets to find and all are included in this walkthrough.

You begin the level by sliding into the first room. On arrival you will notice two closed gates, one at the south wall, and one in the NW corner of the room, the NW corner one is for later. There is a hang lever on the east wall, use it to open the south gate and head through. A monkey shows up and there is no need to kill him, but behind him is a baddie and he certainly will need to be done away with.
The next task is to find a climbable wall in the NW corner of this green passage, climb up and find the 1st Secret Artefact - Flares, and then return to the green passage. Head east, then take a right turn and enter the tree room.

Climb the tree on the north side, and then when Lara’s head is just above the first tree canopy, back flip to a branch behind you. Jump NW onto the next branch, and then jump NE to the next branch. You can see a hole in the north wall now so jump in and go to the bottom of the short passage for a SMP, and then come back up the steps and take a left turn into another small passage. At the end, collect a pack of Flares, then look up on the south wall for a hang lever to use. This will lower a rope outside. Return to the tree and go to ground, and then find where the rope is hanging at the south side of the room. Grab the rope and swing east towards the east wall hole. Let Lara go when she is swinging high, and then grab the edge of the hole and pull up carefully. A wall trap crashes in front of Lara, so take care and negotiate it to get to the other side. Now search the NE corner for The Crowbar, then nip back past the wall trap and return to the tree.

Climb the tree again but this time, go to the second level. There is a hole in the north wall, but that’s for later, and for now you need to head round to the east side of the tree. Look carefully at the outer east wall and you will be able to see a gap through the foliage textures, and beyond is a hidden room. Take a running jump and grab the edge of the room, then pull up and go through for The Yang Piece. Now return to the tree.

Jump round the branches to the north wall hole and jump in to the new small room. Go through the small room and make your way left to a large room with a pool below.
The first thing you need to do here is use the wall lever to your left on the east wall to lower a rope in the room. You will use this later and can now jump down into the pool below.
Save your game here as it’s quite possible to be killed by either the circular blade, or a lurking snake. Swim through the tunnel in the south wall of the pool and the circular blade will activate, hopefully you will make it through but then you have to quickly take Lara to the right and climb out though the small hole in the NW corner of the underwater room because a deadly snake is lurking nearby. Try to lure him to the hole and shoot him from there. On the south wall you will find The Blue Star, take it then return to the pool outside.

You will notice that a gate is now open in the north wall. Climb out of the pool and head through that gate. As you enter this room you will see two closed gates to the right, one holds a secret and the other has the Yin piece inside and you will get both of these items a little later on. Head through the waterfall to the west, (where you can see the water textures are slightly different). Beyond the waterfall is a small room where you will find the 1st Diamond on a pedestal. You are not ready to leave here yet though, so go to the NE corner of the room and open up a ceiling hatch, then climb up to the ladder. Save game here and start to climb the ladder, as you do, you will get a shot from behind Lara and will see a ledge behind her. Back flip off to this ledge and collect the LMP at Lara’s feet, then negotiate the wall blades to collect the 2nd Secret Artefact - LMP.

Go back to the ladder and save game before climbing up because at the top Lara will climb onto a slope and slide. The next mission is a series of sloped jumps around the room until you can grab and pull up onto the final slope. Now pull up into the crawl space to your left and go through to the small room beyond.

Go to the wall lever on the east wall and save your game again because you are now going to do timed run to the secret behind the gate back at the waterfall room. Use the lever then roll, run to the crawl space and roll again so that Lara can enter the crawl space backwards, crawl through and climb down onto the sloped block and then tap back once so that Lara lines up ready for a running jump to the slope (which is now flat for Lara to stand on) at the exit door of this room. Drop down the ladder to the bottom, and then nip through the blue diamond room, exit through the waterfall and sprint straight ahead the right side gate. Hopefully you made it in time to collect the 3rd Secret Artefact - LMP.

Now you can go collect the Yin Piece from the other gate, but beware as you do because two baddies will show up to greet you.

Leave this room now and go back to the pool room. Climb the ladder on the south wall and go up to lever ledge. Go to the far end of this ledge and jump to the rope. Swing high to the east roof top and jump off so that Lara lands on the roof. Then from here you can jump to the north roof top for a SMP (it is possible to get to the med pack by swinging high to north roof , but it is likely you will miss the roof so it is best to take it via the east roof.).

Now return to the lever ledge and re-use the rope to swing to the north door on the ledge below the med pack roof. Inside this door is the receptacle to place the combined Yin and Yang item, and a door will open nearby exposing the room to the 2nd Diamond. Take the diamond and return to the rope, then swing back to the east lever ledge.

Return to the tree area and jump the upper branches to the west wall hole. Go inside this tiny hallway and place the two diamonds in their receptacles. The door opens behind Lara and you can go through to a second pool room.

Have a little look around; you will see three movable objects in the corner and three more in the pool, plus a closed door to the north. Ignore all of this for now as you will come back to them later. First you need to shoot the snake in the pool, and then you can safely dive in and head towards the open door in the north wall of the pool. Save game and swim into a small underwater maze, (do not panic, this is a very small maze so you will not get lost) and as you do the door will raise behind you blocking your way back. There is also another secret to grab and this can only be done while the maze is flooded. Notice as you enter the maze that to the left there is a blue floor tile. Swim over it and you will see a shot of a door in the maze lowering, this is a timed door and your time starts as soon as you swim over that blue tile. Swim over the tile and hit the look key to kill the shot of the door, this will give you a better chance of making it to the secret area. Now swim NW until you can turn into first north passage, at the end go right, left, left again then right, and swim ahead through the door before it raises again. Swim on and pull up through the ceiling hole into a small upper room where you will find the 4th Secret – Artefact - Flares - SMP.
Return to the maze and swim round to the NW corner where you will find a ceiling hole. Swim up and climb out taking care not to get caught by the swinging chains, then run past the chains and place the Blue Star in the receptacle at the north wall. You will see a shot of the pool which is now empty.

Drop back into the maze and draw guns as a baddy is lurking. Make your way to the south side of the maze and you will find a SMP at the outer south wall; this is also where the baddy might be lurking, and nearby is the exit door to take you back out to the now empty pool.

Now it’s time to do some object shoving. Go to the three objects on the pool floor and look at the colours of the cubes on top. One is green, one is grey, and one is black. You need to move the green one and place it on the patterned tile nearby, and then climb out of the pool and do the same with the objects in the corner of the room. This will open the north door and Lara can go through for the final item Qinghai Artefact.

Return to the tree and go to ground. The gate to the south is now open, but don’t head through there yet as there is one more secret to collect. Remember at the start in the first room there was a closed gate? This is now open so go back to that first room and collect the 5th Secret Artefact, and then return to the tree room and enter the south gate.

This is a small passage and you can only go one way. Eventually you will come to a final room outside with a pool and a movable object by the pool. Move the object onto the patterned tile nearby and a gate will open in the west building. Enter the gate to end the level.
