[Note] You can do
things in this level that changes the game path. I tried to merge the two paths
into one walkthrough. They are denoted as path #1 and path #2. [End note]
The level starts
with a short flyby of Lara sliding down a slope. You start this level with only
a compass. Pick up the flares (torche) from the
floor.
Path #1:
Go to the north-east corner and drop into a hole.
The east path is closed by a gate. Go south and see a tunnel. At the end is a
vertical shaft. Go through a crawl space in the corner to the area under then
grid floor. Ignore the scorpion and go to the
south wall and get into a crawl space. If you had pulled the lever from path
#2, this crawl space is closed off and you cannot enter it.
Follow the crawl space to a lava room. Jump the
lava blocks to get onto the north-west corner column. Jump across the lava into
an alcove in the south-east corner. Grab the ceiling and monkey swing to the
north. Release and grab the column. Pull up into the crawl space and go north.
Pull up into a room and notice a hole in the floor. Go north into the next room
and pick up a small medipack and see a
receptacle. Return to the first room and safety drop into the hole. You land in
a room with a trench in the middle.
Path #2:
Go to the south-west well-hidden alcove and use a
floor lever. Exit and go to the north-east corner and drop into a hole. The
east path that was closed by a gate is now open. Go east and hop onto a
platform. Continue east and drop into a water hole. Swim down and find a
well-hidden opening in the north wall and swim inside for Uzi's. Swim to the bottom and swim west up a slope.
Swim left into a tunnel to get a Guardian Key (Clef du
Gardien). Swim back to the hole. Pull up into the room and shoot the dog. Use the Guardian Key in the north-west corner and
the gate opens. Monkey swing over the lava stream. Follow the tunnel to a room
with a trench in the middle.
Paths #1 and #2:
There are closed gates in the north wall. There is
a doorway in the west wall. Do not go there yet. It has dogs and closed gates.
There is a large medipack in the south-east alcove but it is a spike trap. Go
the south-west corner alcove and use the floor lever. You get a cut scene
showing an open door and a floor grate. Drop into the trench and look south to
see the opening. Go south and shoot a scorpion
if you have any Uzi ammo left. This is under the starting area. If you go to
the south-east you are back in the tunnel where you started. To the south-west
is the crawl space that is still open if you followed path #1. It is closed if
you followed path #2.
Go to the entrance of the cave opening and jump up
to grab the ceiling. Monkey swing north to an upper crawl space in the north
wall just to the right of the closed gates. Crawl to the end and look into the
room. You can see a doorway to the north-east. There are two choices here:
Choice 1: Start to drop into the crawl space and
the floor starts to rise. Roll and sprint and curve into that doorway and get
inside. The floor carries you to another tunnel. If you go to the west you can
see a block and Uzi's in a room below.
Follow the tunnel to the east and a gate opens for you. Enter the room
and get secret #1. Pick up two flares, Uzi's, and a small
medipack. Exit through the north-east corner tunnel and drop onto a
slope. Actually this is almost impossible. I managed it once by some lucky
aiming and a roll but I did not save the game. I died in a lava pit and could
never repeat the run so I did choice 2 from the crawl space. It was too hard to
try anymore.
Choice 2: Start to drop into the crawl space and
the floor starts to rise. Climb up through the hole in ceiling. Use the two
floor levers to open the gate. Follow the tunnel to a slope. You can see the
side tunnel of the secret in an upper right wall. I suppose you could jump up
there, but I never could do it.
Slide down the slope and when the floor looked very
red, jump up to grab the ceiling over the lava. Follow the monkey swing around
the room to the east wall. Release and grab an invisible crevice below you.
Shimmy around to the right as far as possible and pull up into a tunnel.
Path #1:
Crawl to the end and drop into a room with
knee-deep water. Go north and follow the tunnel. Cross a metal bridge and enter
another tunnel. Pull up into a room and pick up Uzi's.
Shoot two scorpions that appear from the back of
the room. Use the wall switch at the south wall. The gate does not open. Go to
the north-east corner and pull up onto a block. Run and jump south to a higher
column. Jump to grab the column with the fire. Pull up onto a corner and jump
to grab the ceiling. Monkey swing to the south-west and get onto the column to
pick up a Guardian Key. You hear a gate open.
Drop to the floor and enter the open gate. Use the floor lever and get a cut
scene back to the receptacle that you saw.
Go to the north wall and drop into a hole. You are
back near where you started the level. Go through the crawl space and now you
can shoot the scorpion. Go to the west wall and
into the crawl space again. Jump the columns and monkey swing back to the upper
room. Go north and place the receptacle and the gate opens beside you. Enter
then gate and follow the tunnel to a small room. Pick up Uzi ammo and climb the back wall down the hole to the
room below. Pick up Uzi's and Uzi ammo and exit west through the open gate. You are standing on some steps in a large
room.
Path #2:
Crawl to the end and drop into a small room. There
is a tunnel in the north wall but you cannot get inside as that was for path
#1. Above you is a bridge that you cannot reach. Climb on the blocks and jump
to grab the crawl space in the south wall. Follow the crawl space to the end
drop into a cave. Shoot the two bats if you can.
I ran out of ammo.
Dive into the water and swim through the hole in
the east wall. Follow the underwater tunnel to a large cave. Swim to the west
wall, then to the north wall, and then to the east wall. Follow the twisting underwater tunnel and see
a red-tinged wall to the north. Turn left and swim up to get air. Swim to the
bottom for a small medipack. Swim behind the
column to the north-west and swim into a bottom crawl space. Follow the tunnel
and surface. Pull up and follow the tunnel to a room with a greenish pile of
sand on the floor. The air hole is at the south wall. Go south-west and pick up
Uzi ammo from a ledge in front of the sand.
Now go into the north-west room and shoot two dogs. Go to the platform in the center of the room
to pick up Uzi's, large medipack, and two Uzi ammo. Use the two floor levers and the gate
opens in the west wall. Enter the room slowly and wait for the rolling spike
balls to stop. Go to the north-west corner and get into the crawl space. You
slide down a slope into a room that starts to fill with sand. Just wait until
it stops. Pull up into the crawl space in the left wall. Follow the crawl space
to stand up on the steps in a large room.
Paths #1 and #2:
Go south and the double gates open for you. You can return to the starting area. Go
north and get a fly of the room showing four gates and a room with five pull
chains. Shoot the two dogs that have awakened.
Go south onto a ledge for two flares. Look at
the four closed gates. Above each gate are clear and solid blocks.
Blue gate
: C???C (? has a slope instead of a block)
Green gate: CSSCC
Red gate
: SCSSC
Yellow gate: CCSCC
When you pull the chains in the cut scene room,
fires will start on the grid in the ceiling. When the fires match the clear
block pattern, a gate will open.
Blue gate:
Stand jump to the south to grab a higher ledge. You
will need a flare to see the upper ledges. Go west and follow the upper ledges
to the tunnel in the north wall and enter the room. Face north towards the five
chains and number them as 1 to 5 from left to right. Pull chains 1, 3, and 5
and exit the room. Those values seem to work. Notice the fires in the ceiling.
You can see an open gate in the lower north wall. Enter the open gate and
follow up a long set of steps. The tunnel widens and you pass a clear window to
your left. You can look down into a room and see a pedestal. Continue south and
pass a circular door needing the Eye of Horus. Continue south and follow the
steps to a room with water and five chains. Face west towards the five chains
and number them as 1 to 5 from left to right. Pull chains 1, 3, and 5 and
blocks rise in the water. Jump over the blocks to get to the west ledge. Pick
up the Guardian Key and swim back to the
entrance. Follow the steps and tunnels back to the four-gate room. Follow the
ledges again to the five-chain room. Pull chains 1, 3, and 5 to reset the
fires. The reset is not essential since the chains are used again. Resetting
the chains just makes this description easier to write.
Green gate:
Pull chains 1, 4, and 5 and exit the room. Notices
the fires are lit from left to right and that the green gate is open. Enter the
room and notice two columns rise and a floor lever in the middle of the room.
The floor lever controls the columns.
Handle pointing east: South-east and north-west
columns up, others down
Handle pointing west: North-east and north-west
columns up, others down
Move the floor lever to point the handle to the
west. Enter the tunnel at the east wall and follow it to the left side. Jump
the columns and get into the alcove in the north-west corner. Use the floor
lever and safety drop to the floor. Notice that a column has risen in the
south-west corner. Move the floor lever to point to the east. Enter the tunnel
at the east wall and follow it to the right side. Jump the columns and get into
the alcove in the south-west corner. Pick up a Guardian
Key and safety drop to the floor. Exit this room and go back to the
four-gate room. Follow the ledges again to the five-chain room. Pull chains 1,
4, and 5 to reset the fires.
Red gate:
Pull chains 2 and 5 and exit the room. Notices the
fires are lit from left to right and that the red gate is open. Drop to the
ground and enter the red gate. It is a few simple jumps over a lava floor. Go
to the south-west corner and pick up the Guardian Key.
Then jump back to the door. Use jump with grab to glide into the doorway and
return to the four-gate room. Follow the ledges again to the five-chain room.
Pull chains 2 and 5 to reset the fires.
Yellow gate:
Pull chains 1, 2, 4, and 5 and exit the room.
Notices the fires are lit from left to right. Drop to the floor and see that
the yellow gate is open. Enter the yellow gate and follow the tunnel to the
end. You are in the room below the five-chain room. Place the three Guardian
Keys in the receptacles in the colored alcoves. You hear a gate open. Return to
the four-gate room. Follow the ledges again to the five-chain room. Pull chains
1, 2, 4, and 5 to reset the fires. Notice that the gate is open in the north
wall.
Before you enter that tunnel, they are a few more
things to do. Return to the four-gate room and drop into the trench. Go south
down the stairs down the tunnel. You can see Uzi's behind a closed gate in the
east wall. This was opened by path #1 only. Continue south and you are back in
a previous room. Hop onto the west ledge and go west into the doorway. Go down
the steps and enter the room. Shoot two dogs and
notice three closed gates and the blocks above them.
South yellow gate: CCSSC
West red gate
: CCCSC
North green gate : SSCCC
There is also a hole in the floor with three closed
gates. Return back to the four-gate room and get back to the five-chain room.
You may have to shoot two scorpions that walked
out of the open north door.
South yellow gate:
Pull chains 1, 2, and 5 and exit the room. Notices
the fires are lit from left to right. Drop to the floor and run down the steps.
Hop onto the west ledge and go west in the next room. The yellow gate is open.
Enter a room with a lava floor. Grab the ceiling and monkey swing to the south
ledge. Use the floor lever and monkey swing back. Return to the four-gate room.
Follow the ledges again to the five-chain room. Pull chains 1, 2, and 5 to
reset the fires
West red gate:
Pull chains 1, 2, 3, and 5 and exit the room.
Notices the fires are lit from left to right. Drop to the floor and run down
the steps. Hop onto the west ledge and go west in the next room. The red gate
is open. Enter the tunnel slowly and spikes pop up from the floor. When the
first spikes pop up and then go down, go onto that tile as spikes pop up behind
you. The next tile in the tunnel have spikes that go up and down. Then go to
that tile as spikes pop up behind you. Basically take it slow to get to the end
of the tunnel. Pull the chain and you hear a gate open. Follow the same slow
procedure to get out of the tunnel. A run or sprint is deadly. Return to the
four-gate room. Follow the ledges again to the five-chain room. Pull chains 1,
2, 3, and 5 to reset the fires.
North green gate:
Pull chains 3, 4, and 5 and exit the room. Notices
the fires are lit from left to right. Drop to the floor and run down the steps.
Hop onto the west ledge and go west in the next room. The green gate is open.
Enter the tunnel and jump with a curve between the sloped walls to get to the
other side. Use the floor lever and hear a gate open. Jump between the sloped
walls to get back. Exit this room and drop into the hole. Follow the west
through the open gates. Pick up the Timeless Sands
(Les sables eternels) from the pedestal. Exit this area to return to the
four-gate room. Follow the ledges again to the five-chain room. Pull chains 3,
4, and 5 to reset the fires.
Before you leave this room, pull chains 2, 3, and
4. This lets you get a secret.
Enter the north wall tunnel and pick up two Uzi ammo from the floor. Go forward onto a
balcony and get a flyby of the room with a large pyramid. Hop back into the
tunnel and shoot two scorpions if did not appear
earlier in the five-chain room. Go down the steps and into the pyramid. Pick up
flares and a small
medipack from the pedestals. Now return up the east steps and look to
the north. Continue north and slide down into the area behind the pyramid. Go
to the east and pick up a Timeless Sands by the
north wall. Turn around and notice the two closed doors in the pyramid. Go to
the north-west corner of the room and jump over a sand hill and into a tunnel.
Follow the tunnel to a large room with an opening
in the north wall. Safety drop into the room and pick up Uzi's and Uzi ammo
from the platform in the center of the room. Go north and climbs the blocks
into the next room. Place the two Timeless Sands on the statutes and exit the
room. Go to the east wall and then south to find flares.
Climb the steps and see that a block has risen and the exit is closed. Go to
the west and climb a block to get onto the column. Go back up the same tunnel
you used to enter this room.
Notice that the doors are open. Enter the doors
into a small room and shoot two dogs. Go to the
west doorway and enter it to take either tunnel. Follow too many steps down to
a closed door and a chain. Pull the chain and a gate opens on the other side of
the room. Go up all those steps again to the small room. Go down the east side
tunnels to the open gate. I pulled all the chains there as well so that all the
gates were opened. Enter a room and see an open gate in the west wall. Slide
down into the room for secret #2. Pick up a large medipack, binoculars, and flares. Stand jump over the slope back into the room.
Go north to pick up a torch off the pedestal. Light
the torch on the wall torch that lit up as you approached the pedestal. Turn
around and go south into a dark maze. You may notice a closed gate in the east
wall as you enter the tunnel. At a T-junction, go left, right, right and the
straight to an inside corner. Go left, right, left and straight to an inside
corner. Go left, straight to an inside corner and then right. Go straight to
the end to find a pull chain. Drop the torch and pull the chain. Pick up the
torch and go back to the maze entrance. The gate in the east wall is open.
Follow the tunnel to another room and drop into a pit. Save the game and go up
the tunnel in the south wall. Near the end, turn around make small hops
backwards. Then run back to the pit to avoid a rolling spike ball.
Go up the tunnel to the end and go to the left.
Turn left into a room with a colorful floor. Notice the colors as green, black,
white, black, blue, and black from the door entrance. The red and orange tiles
are fire traps. Exit and go east into a 3-dimensional maze. Jump to the green
block in the green room. The red and yellow entrances are deadly. Pull up into
the blue room above you. Jump to the north opening and onto the black cube. Go
north into a green room and drop onto a blue cube for a small medipack. The side exits are deadly so pull up and return to
the green cube. Go east into a blue room and drop down onto a green cube. Go
east to a black room. Go south into a blue room. Pull up into a black room and
go north into another black room. Go north to a green room. Drop down into a
blue room. Enter the tunnel in the east wall.
Climb the ladder at the end. Back flip onto a ledge
and hear a gate open. Go west into a room and the gate closes behind you. Pick
up Uzi ammo from the green tile in front of
you. Go south-east and pick up Uzi ammo from a
blue tile. Go to the middle of the room and pick up an Eye
Piece (Fragment d'oeil) and a door opens.
Shoot the two dogs that have awakened. Go
north to exit the room. Go down the steps and turn a corner. Go down the steps
and stop in front of a deep drop. You
need full health for the safe drop to the ledge below. Go south and get flares from the pedestal. Go north for the other Eye Piece on the pedestal.
The floor of the pit has risen so cross the floor
to the south and exit back to room at the bottom of the steps. Take any doorway
and follow the steps up to the pyramid entrance room. Climb the blocks in the
middle of the room and pull up into the ceiling hole. You enter the small room
with the pedestals. Go south to exit the room and back to the steps by the
pyramid. Go up the east steps and look north. Go north and stop before you
start to slide down the slope. Look to the north-west towards the front of the
pyramid. Jump onto the ledge above the doors. Drop onto a block where you can
see items. You get secret #3 and pick up red shotgun shells and the shotgun.
Drop to the ground and enter the pyramid again. Climb the blocks to exit the
same way as before. Climb the steps and go south back to the five-chain room.
Pull chains 3, 4, and 5 again to reset them. Pull
chains 1, 3, and 5 to open the blue gate in the four-gate room. Go there and
enter the open gate. Follow the steps and tunnel back to the circular door.
Make the Eye of Horus and use it to open the circular door. Enter and go north
up the steps. Look around to enter a small tunnel. Go south and shoot four dogs. Enter the room with a glass floor. In the
room below you can see a pedestal, a receptacle and a gate. This was the area
from path #1. If you took path #2, you cannot get there. Anyway, pick up the Amulet of Horus from the
pedestal and the level ends.
