Curse of the Mountains

[Note] There are two new moves for Lara that are required to play this level. Read the author's notes about them. You also have to use the author's tomb4.exe file. [End note]

 

Level 1: Mountain Base

 

You start standing on a platform in a rocky enclose. Look up to the upper east wall and see an opening of a tunnel. To your left is a menacing looking but harmless native.  There is a closed gate behind him. There are four movable blocks in the north-east corner. You can also stand on those blocks.

 

Number the block at the north wall as #1.

Number the lower middle block as #2.

Number the south block as #3.

Number the top block as #4.

 

Push block #4 south onto block #3.

Pull out block #1 and move it south of block #3.

Push top block #4 south onto block #1.

Pull out block #2 and move it south of block #1.

Push top block #4 south onto block #2.

Pull out block #3 and move it south of block #2.

Push top block #4 south onto block #3.

 

Repeat the procedure until block #4 is under the opening in the east wall. Climb onto the top block and pull up into the tunnel. Go to the end of the tunnel and pull down the wall switch. Exit the tunnel and drop to the ground. The gate in the west wall is open. Enter the gate and go into a small cave. Shoot the crocodile in the shallow water. Across the water is another harmless native. There is Uzi ammo on the floor near the north wall. Pull down the wall switch next to the entrance doorway. A trap door opens in the bottom of the shallow water.

 

Dive into the water hole and the water current carries you over a waterfall and into a pool. Get out of the pool. You are in a cave. Notice the crevices in the south and west walls. Move the block from the north-east corner of the cave to the edge of the pool. Run and jump from the block to grab the edge of the waterfalls. Shimmy to the right and around the corner until you are under a higher crevice. Keep CTRL pressed and use the DOWN ARROW and RIGHT ARROW and Lara will jump up to grab the higher crevice. This is a new move mentioned in the author's readme file. Shimmy to the right to get under a crevice. Use the new move again to get to the highest crevice. Shimmy to the left and around the corner. Release and grab the lower crevice. Shimmy to the left and use the new move to grab the edge of an opening. Pull up into the opening under the bridge.

 

Grab the bottom of the bridge and monkey swing across the cave and into a tunnel. Go north and pick up a small medipack from the floor. Continue north into an open area and notice the rocks on the upper north wall. Look west and see breakable tiles with a gap. This is the other new move. Run west as the rocks fall. Sprint onto the breakable tiles and hit ALT to jump. You do a long jump over the gap onto the next breakable tiles. Release and just run into the tunnel entrance before the tiles break. Save at the entrance of the tunnel. Notice the three rocks in the tunnel ceiling. Go west and pick up the Uzi from the shallow water. Continue to sprint west as the rocks fall behind you.

 

You enter a small cave. There is a closed gate in the north wall. Pull and push the moveable block to the west so that it is under an open hole in the south-west ceiling. Hop onto the block and pull up into an upper room. Pull down the wall switch and hear a trap door open. Get down and notice an open trap door in the north-east ceiling. Move the block under that new hole.

 

Hop onto the block and pull up into an upper room. Pull down the wall switch and hear a trap door open. Get down and notice an open trap door in the south-east ceiling. Move the block under that new hole.

 

Hop onto the block and pull up into an upper room. Pull down the wall switch and hear a trap door open. Get down and notice an open trap door in the north-west ceiling. Move the block under that new hole.

 

Hop onto the block and pull up into an upper room. Pull down the wall switch and hear a gate open in the room below. Get down and enter the open gate. Get through the two circular slicers by your favorite method. I used a side jump to get through them. Go to the end of the tunnel and climb down a long ladder. Pick up Uzi ammo from the floor. Pull down a jump switch on the north wall and the door opens beside you. Follow the tunnel to the east but be careful of squashing hammers from the side alcoves. At the end, turn to the right and go up the steps. At the top of the steps, the gate opens as you approach. Go to the middle of the pool and pick up the Blue Gem (called Amulet of Horus) and the level changes.

 

Level 2: The Hidden Temple

 

You land on a slope and slide down. Just drop into the trench. You will not lose much health. Climb the ladder on the west wall to get back to the slope. Jump between the slopes and use a right curve to eventually land on a high flat ledge to the north. Go east and pick up a small medipack in the corner. You can ignore the monkeys and butterflies. Go to the west wall and press a hard-to-see big button. Slide back into the trench that is now filled with water. Swim south and east into an open underwater gate.

 

Swim into an underwater cave. Swim to the right and under the rocks. Go east and see a closed trap door above you. Turn left and swim into a north tunnel. Follow the tunnel around to the left. At the end, pull down an underwater lever. Swim back to the open trap door and stand up. Pull up into a small room. There is a closed door in the south wall. Go to the east wall and jump up to grab a crevice. Use the new move to get to a higher crevice. Shimmy to the left around the corner to the end. Use the new move again three times to reach the highest crevice. Shimmy to the right and onto the rock ledges. On the last rock ledge, you can pull up and stand.

 

Stand jump into the tunnel in the west wall. Go to the end and press the big button on the wall. Go back to the entrance. Hop back onto the west wall ledge and slide down to grab the edge. Safety drop to the floor. Enter the open gate in the south wall. Go up the steps and hop back to shoot a crocodile. Go up the steps again and enter a small open area. There are four closed gates and four moveable boxes.

 

Pull back the north-west block. Go behind the block and pick up an Uzi.

 

Pull back the south-west block. Use the wall switch that was behind the block. The left west wall gate opens. You may see a moving shadow in the alcove. Wait for it as a crocodile falls from the sky and into the alcove. Shoot the crocodile and pick up a small medipack from the dead body. The crocodile can also climb onto the blocks.

 

Pull back the south-east block. Use the wall switch that was behind the block. The right east wall gate opens. Shoot the crocodile that emerges from the alcove.

 

Pull back the north-east block. Use the wall switch that was behind the block. The left east wall gate opens. Enter the alcove and pull down the wall switch. The right west wall gate opens. Go there and enter the gate slowly. There are squashing hammers in the middle of the room. Turn to the left and press a big button on the wall. This raises a block under a wall switch on the west wall. Get past the hammers and go to the wall switch. The wall switch stops the hammers. When the hammers bang and start to retract pull down the wall switch. This should stop the hammers in an open position so that you can get the item. If not, reset the wall switch and try again. Go to the middle of the floor between the open hammers. Pick up the Blue Gem (called Breast Plate) and the level changes.

 

Level 3: Arctic Towers

 

You start in an icy cave with many higher ledges. There is a closed door in the east wall. Jump onto the rocks in the north-east corner. You can stand on the corner block. If you see red blood spots, there is something shooting at you from high above you. Run and jump to grab the ledge to the west. Pull up and go west to stand on the slope. From here, you can aim and shoot the centaur on the high bridge above you. Now you have a choice of two methods.

 

Mehod 1: You have to do a hard run and jump to the sloped ledge to the south-east. Land on the ledge and slide down to grab the edge. Shimmy to the right and stand up. This is a hard corner-to-corner jump and I was not able to use the new long jump. The run-up distance on the ledge seems to be too short to use it.

 

Method 2: Jump back to the top corner block in the north-east corner. Run and jump towards the lower part of the sloped south ledge. When you jump, release ALT and use END to roll so that you land backwards on the corner of the slope. Slide down and grab the edge of the slope. Shimmy to the right and stand up. This method is easier.

 

Stand jump south to grab the block and pull up to the top. Stand jump south to a higher block. Run and jump south-west to land on a slope. Slide down and grab the edge. Shimmy to the right and pull up onto the flat ledge. Run and jump north to grab a ladder. Climb up to the high bridge. Run to the east end of the bridge. Back flip off the slope and jump forward to the west to grab the ladder in the hole above your head. There are also two centaurs on the ground that are shooting at you. Climb the ladder and pull up into a small room. Shoot a small demon. In the room you can see two blocks and many wall switches that require blocks to reach.

 

Jump onto the middle block #1 at the south wall and pull down the wall switch #1. This raises block #2 under wall switch #2 in the south-east corner.

 

Jump onto the block #2 in the south-east corner and pull down the wall switch #2. This lowers block #1 and raises block #3 under wall switch #3 in the south-west corner.

 

Jump onto the block #3 in the south-west corner and pull down the wall switch #3. This raises block #4 under wall switch #4 in the north-east corner.

 

Jump onto the block #4 in the north-east corner and pull down the wall switch #4. This raises block #1 under wall switch #1 in the middle of the south wall. Also block #5 in the middle of the north wall lowers. There is no wall switch #5.

 

Notice a wall switch #6 on the upper east wall.

 

Move block #6 from the north-west corner to the east and leave it beside block #4.

 

Jump onto the block #3 in the south-west corner and reset wall switch #3. This lowers block #4 under wall switch #4 in the north-east corner.

 

Jump onto the middle block #1 at the south wall and reset wall switch #1. This lowers block #2 under wall switch #2 in the south-east corner.

 

Now you can easily move block #6 under wall switch #6 on the east wall. Hop onto the block and pull down wall switch #6. The door opens in the west wall. Watch out for the central hole in the floor and enter the open door. Go down the tunnel and get through the two circular slicers. You enter a room with a water pool. Shoot the crocodile and cross the tightrope to the other ledge. Just after the mid-point of the tightrope, Lara automatically jumped and landed on the far ledge. Only pull down the right wall switch. The left wall switch is a fire trap.

 

Dive into the water and pick up Uzi ammo and an Uzi at the south wall. You can also pick up Uzi ammo from the dead crocodile. Swim east and pull up onto the starting ledge at either corner ledge. Get pass the two circular slicers again. Enter the room with the blocks and wall switches again. Climb down the ladder and drop onto the bridge. You will probably need full health to evade the centaurs on the ground. Jump south to a lower ledge. Then jump north to the sloped ledge to slide down and safety drop to the ground. Either shoot the centaurs or ignore them. I ignored them to save the Uzi ammo for the next enemy. Run through the open door in the north wall. Run down the steps and a door opens for you. Enter the door and it closes and locks out the centaurs.

 

You enter a room with a shallow pool. The side pools are deadly fire. Save the game. Jump into the pool and two ice ahmets appear. Shoot the ahmets and pick up the Blue Gem (called Left Greave) and the level changes. If the ahmets die on the Blue Gem, you may be able to crouch to pick it up. If not, reload the game and shoot the ahmets again. If you are quick and lucky, you may be able to pick up the Blue Gem to end the level before the ahmets push you aside.

 

Level 4: Burial Grounds

 

You are on a platform with a rotating blade. A creature drops from the ceiling and tries to push you off the platform and into the lava below. Avoid the blade and run around the platform to pick up a large medipack and three Uzi ammo. Avoid the blade as you shoot the creature. You can hang from the platform. When the creature moves away, pull up and shoot it. When the creature gets close, hang again and wait until it moves away. When the creature dies an earthquake happens and the door opens in the north wall. It takes a lot of bullets to shoot the creature.  Jump over the lava and into the north tunnel. The door closes behind you. Run forward and the level changes.

 

Level 5: The End

 

You get a final cut scene where you have no control. Lara slides down a slope to safety as explosions occur behind her. Then the game ends.
