Waterfall Valley, Part 1

Level by Mr. XY (December, 2007)

Walkthrough by Harry Laudie

[Note] The compass directions are reversed from normal. I use the red pointer to give directions. When I died and tried to reload a save game, the game would often crash and the game had to be re-started. This was really annoying when you consider how often you die in this game. [End note]

You start by dropping into a hole to slide down a sloped runnel. Jump forward and use a right curve. With luck you will jump into a hole in the right wall that is hidden by green leaves. Pick up a Blue Gem for secret #1. Save the game in front of the wall switch. Pull down the wall switch and get a cut scene of the knife blades in the sloped tunnel. If the knife blades at not near the walls, reload and try again. When you are happy with the position of the knife blades, jump through the green leaves in the east wall. Slide down to the bottom and get a long flyby of the valley and the many waterfalls. The area is huge.

You are now safe and have the time to read the diary for background information.

Hop down onto the ground and go north. Be careful of the water reeds that are actually spikes. Continue north and find a closed gate and a receptacle in the east wall. Go west to jump into a hole in the gray rocks. Pick up revolver ammo and jump out again. Continue north to see a fence in the east wall. There is a cave behind the fence. Shoot the north-east section of the fence that is behind the bush. Enter the cave and pick up flares. Go to the hidden north-east part of the cave. Pick up the Green Gem for secret #2 near a bush. Turn around and shoot two bats. Exit the cave and continue north. Do not mistake butterflies for bats.

Go west and continue past the large 3-cascade waterfalls and look north-west to see a ladder. Hop onto a mound and climb the ladder to the top. Go to the west edge and look down to the north-west to see a cave partially hidden by a brown bush. Stand jump with grab and you should land in that cave. Pick up an Uzi from the skeleton. Exit the cave and climb the ladder again back to the top. Go to the north wall behind the small tree. Position Lara at the north wall to straddle the texture joining line on the ground. Jump up and grab the edge of the rock above you. Shimmy to the right onto the next ledge. Drop down and go to the corner to pick up Secret Mask #1. Go south across the bridge and pick up red shotgun shells.

Safety drop from the bridge onto the ground. Nearby are some skulls in some tall grass. Search among the skulls for Uzi ammo. Go south and enter the ruined building. You can see receptacles for two masks in the west wall. Exit the building and go to the south-west corner of the area. Pick up a small medipack among the plants in that corner. Go east and pass a key lock and a large gate. Continue east and return back to where you entered this area. Go north to the large 3-cascade waterfall you ignored earlier.

Dive into the water and swim down to the stream of bubbles. Swim north to a second stream of bubbles. Swim east to a third stream of bubbles. Swim behind the box and pull down the underwater lever. You get a cut scene of large underwater doors. Swim back for air. Swim north to the second bubble stream. Swim up next to a ladder and onto a top ledge. Pull down an underwater lever and get a cut scene of spikes dropping near a gem. Swim back for air. Swim north to the second bubble stream. Swim to the west and see a triangular opening in the lower west wall. Swim into the opening and pull down an underwater lever. You get a cut scene of the large underwater doors opening. Swim back for air. Swim north to the second bubble stream. Swim south-west towards a fourth stream of bubbles. Pick up the Purple Gem for secret #3. Swim back for air.

Swim north again to the top of the underwater structure. Swim to the west over a bridge. Swim to the north wall and pick up a large medipack. Swim back for air. Swim north and through the open large underwater doors. Swim near the ceiling to avoid poisonous darts near the floor. Swim into a large flooded room. Swim up to the surface and pull up onto the closest ledge. Turn around and shoot two crocodiles in the water. This may take patience and getting into the water to lure them close. When they are dead, dive into the water. Swim to the lower north-west and pick up the crowbar off the top of the box. Swim up to the surface. Pull up onto the south ledge and pick up a small medipack.

Dive into the water and swim to the bottom. Swim into the north wall tunnel and swim between the knife blades. Pick up a large medipack and swim between the next knife blades. Swim up and surface. Pull up onto any ledge and shoot a raptor. Pull up into the cave and go north up the steps. Use the crowbar to pry Ancient Stone #1 off the north wall. Swim back through the two sets of knife blades to the flooded room. Surface for air before continuing.

Dive into the water and swim to the bottom. Swim into the east wall tunnel and swim through the first set of wall spikes. Swim up and pull down an underwater lever on the high west wall. Swim through the second set of wall spikes and surface through the open trap door. Pull up into the room and shoot a raptor. Go to the east wall and use the crowbar to pry Ancient Stone #2 off the wall. Swim back through the wall spikes to the flooded room. Surface for air before continuing.

Dive into the water and swim to the bottom. Swim into the west wall tunnel and swim through the tunnel. Swim near the middle and the wall blades may only cause a little damage. Swim up and pull down the underwater lever on the upper east wall to open the trap door above your head. Pull up onto the east ledge and back flip into the cave. Pick up a small medipack and Uzi ammo near the skeleton on the north floor. Shoot the cages in the south-west corner. Use the crowbar to pry Ancient Stone #3 off the wall. Swim back through the wall blades to the flooded room. Surface for air before continuing.

Swim above the west wall tunnel and pick up red shotgun shells. Swim to the north-west ledge and you can see that an Ancient Stone is already in place. Pull up onto the south-west ledge and place an Ancient Stone on the north wall. Swim to the east ledge and place the other two Ancient Stones. Be careful of the wall spikes. You hear a trap door open. Dive into the water and swim into the open trap door in the floor. The hole is between a box and the north-east corner. Swim under a large waterwheel and pull up onto a small hill at the north wall. Pull down the wall switch and get a cut scene to show that the flooded room has drained. Swim under the moving waterwheels and swim south into the tunnel.

Swim up and pull up into the drained room. Go to the north-west corner and hop onto the block. Pull up onto the north ledge. Run and jump to the east to grab the horizontal pole near the middle. Spin around and release and grab the lower horizontal pole to the east. Spin around and release and use a right curve to land on the north-east ledge. While easy to explain, this maneuver took about four days of trying before I made it. Save the game a few times when you make it. This was way too hard and I guess many people will just trash this game at this point. Go to the north-east corner of the ledge and pull down the wall switch. You get a cut scene of blocks dropping on the south ledge. Use the two ropes to swing onto the south ledge. It is also hard because you can hit your head on the ceiling if you swing too high from the first rope. Pick up Cogwheel #1 and the Gold Idol from the ledge. You get a cut scene of a wall dropping in an underwater tunnel.

Safety drop to the floor. Dive into the hole behind you and swim to the east. Swim into the south branch tunnel and carefully swim through two wall spike traps. It seemed to be better to swim near the floor. Swim south through the two rooms and into an alcove. Pull down the underwater lever to open the gate. Exit the gate and swim west, south and up to get air. Pull up onto any ledge and you are back in the valley. Go south and east to the closed gate and the receptacle. Place the Gold Idol in the receptacle and a column rises behind you. Go to the outer north-west corner and pull up onto the column. Do not jump up on the archway. It is a spike trap.

Run and jump to grab the middle of the horizontal pole to the south. Release and use a left curve to land on the piece of wooden bridge. Go to the high ground at the east wall. Jump up to grab the upper edge. Shimmy to the left and drop onto a ledge. Pick up a shotgun and safety drop to the ground. Go back to climb the column and use the horizontal pole swing again. This time go west onto the bridge. The camera view changes just to make it difficult. Run and jump to grab the edge of the far west bridge. Go west onto the plateau and pick up Uzi ammo from the skeleton. Look around and shoot a pterodactyl. Go to the north edge and drop down to pull down a jump switch on the north wall of the plateau. You can see the gate open near the raised column behind you.

Go to the east wall and enter the open gate. Follow the tunnel and shoot two raptors. You enter a large cave. Look above the entrance and see a rope and a horizontal pole. Go to the south-west corner and pick up revolver ammo near the wall. Go south-east and enter the south cave. Pick up Cogwheel #2 near the skeleton on the platform. Pick up a revolver off the platform at the back of the cave. You can see a place for four cogwheels on the west wall. Exit the cave and see two large waterwheels above an east wall pit. Go towards the north-west and find a small medipack on the ground. It is just south of a skull in some plants. Continue north and find a skeleton in a cage. Move the cage to the south-west corner where you found the revolver ammo. Hop onto the block and pull up to the bridge piece above your head.

Run and jump to the north to grab the middle of a horizontal pole. Spin and release to fly forward to grab a rope. Shift a bit to the left and swing to jump onto a platform. Use the floor lever and get a cut scene of a column rising near a closed gate. You can see a jump switch and platforms to the east but you cannot reach them from here. Safety drop to the ground and exit the cave.

Run to the far south-west corner of the valley. Pull up onto the column and stand jump onto the south archway. The camera view changes as you shoot a pterodactyl. Drop off the edge and pull down the jump switch on the archway. You get a cut scene of a spike trap triggering on an archway. You drop in front of an open gate. Enter the open gate and go south to the next corridor. Shoot two bats and two small dinosaurs. You can see a fence to the west. Go to the north-east corner and climb the north wall. Climb trough the green ceiling and back flip into a south tunnel. Go south and pick up the Orange Gem for secret #4. Climb back down to the ground. Go west and swim under the fence. You enter another large cave.

Wade through the water and jump up into the south-west corner hut. Shoot a native and pick up revolver ammo from a skeleton. Exit and go north to enter another hut. Shoot two natives and go west behind the fire to pick up the laser sight off the floor. Notice another cogwheel in the skeleton with the spikes. Exit the hut and go north into another cave. Combine the revolver and laser sight and shoot the grate in the bottom north wall of the water pool. Swim north into the underwater tunnel and pull down the underwater lever. Swim out of the tunnel and pull up out of the pool. Return to the hut with the fire. The spikes are gone. Pull the skeleton back from the floor and pick up Cogwheel #3.

Exit the hut and go east to swim under the fence again. Go east and turn to the right to exit this area and return to the valley. Now run back to the east wall and pull up to the earlier column. Use the horizontal pole again to get to the south bridge piece. From the bridge, run and jump north-east onto the archway. Pick up the Rusty Key from the skeleton. Safety drop to the ground and return to the south-west open gate.

Use the Rusty Key on the key lock to the left of the open gate. A platform rises above you hear. Climb the column and get onto the archway again. The camera view changes to make it very difficult to jump onto the raised platform. Run and jump to the west to grab the waterfall. Go left and jump the ledges to get onto the ledge at the north wall corner. Again spin on the two horizontal poles to the east. Try to grab near the middle of the poles. After N+1 tries, you land on a ledge and pick up flares. Do a run and jump around the sloped corner to the north-east and land on top of a waterfall. Go north-east to the top of the roof and the camera view changes. Pick up Secret Mask #2 from the roof. Safety drop to the ground.

Enter the building and place the two masks in the west wall receptacles and the doors open. Shoot the raptor that runs out of the open door. You enter another large cave and building area with two waterfalls. Turn to the right and pick up Uzi ammo from among the plants on the floor. Notice the TNT box at the west wall. Hop onto the north-east box and pull up onto the north-east ledge. Go south to the south-east ledge and pick up a note from the skeleton. Read the note for background information.

Go onto the central east ledge and use the rope to swing onto the west ledge. Go north and pick up the Detonator Key from the skeleton. Safety drop to the ground. Go north and use the key to open the gate. Enter the alcove and shoot the north grate. Go north and enter the room. Go to the north wall and use the detonator on the floor in front of the fence. You hear a loud explosion. Exit the room and turn to the right and get into the water stream. Hop back to the bridge. Use the revolver and laser sight to shoot a vase at the end of the water channel in the north wall. It is very hard to see. Get out of the water and return to the room with the detonator. The fence is open. Enter the tunnel and pick up the Red Gem for secret #5.

Exit the room again and go south and west to see an open wall destroyed by the TNT. Go west and see two pedestals on platforms in the water. Hop onto the right platform and pick up Cogwheel #4 off the pedestal. The left platform and pedestal is a spike trap. Exit this room and go east to return to the valley. Go to the east wall and enter the tunnel again. Enter the large cave and go to the south-east corner again. Enter the south cave and place the four cogwheels on the west wall. With each cogwheel you place you should hear a thump.

Exit the cave and go to the left to see a raised column. Back flip onto the south wall slope and jump forward to grab the top of the raised column. Pull up onto the raised column. Stand jump to the east to grab the upper ledge. Pull up and go to the east wall. Save the game for an extremely tight timed run over platforms. Pull down the wall switch and two platforms are raised at the east wall. Roll and run off the ledge onto the first platform. Run and jump to the second platform. Run and jump to the north-east and use a left curve to grab the east wall sloped edge. Shimmy to the right and around the corner to pull up and save the game.

Drop to grab the edge and shimmy to the right. Pull down a jump switch and get a cut scene of a block dropping back in the cogwheel cave. Go south and enter the cave again. Turn to the left and pull down the wall switch to the left of the cogwheels. You get a cut scene of water flowing the waterwheels turning. Exit the cave and go north to dive into the water pool. Swim east and pull up onto the east ledge. A door has opened in the east wall. Follow the tunnel to the east. You get a flyby of a large hole above you and the level ends.

I guess that you should save the last savegame for the next part of the adventure.
