Chambers of Second Chances.

Level by Bjorn.

Walkthrough by Dutchy.

Hidden in the first (and second) level are 20 Secrets, the Gems, you can get important pickups with them. Because there aren’t enough Gems to open all the doors in the first go, you should make a choice. Here’s the list of the items behind the Gem doors I will mark with ***. I advise you to at least get the Crossbow and Grenades as they will be the most effective against the enemies present. But if you play it like I did, you’ll get 20 Gems, enough to open all doors….

Crossbow 3 Gems

Lasersight 2 Gems

Revolver 3 Gems

1 Small Medipack 1 Gem

1 Large Medipack 1 Gem

Normal Grenades 2 Gems

Super Grenades 2 Gems

Shotgun Ammo 2 Gems

You have several choices to get through the level, hard to keep them all separated, but this is how I got through.

Level 1- Chambers of Second Chances.

In this first room is a door with a pillar receptacle E, behind you the tunnel you came from, just go into the next room and do not take that Medipack W, but go for the Shotgun and 2x Ammo for it, this will block access to the Uzis (no real use for the Uzis anyway) and the Medipack.

Go N into the next room and find a bunch of movable pillars, you’ll have to get to the E side and leave a path to the NW door. Then get to the opening in the E wall.

Hop up the sloped floor and then up NE, one more NW and find Flares S and a closed “shortcut” door N.

Invisible path, First Gem Secret.

So all we can do is go down the slide E and a flyby takes over. At the end of it you get a glance of the path through this room, but it is rather short. So walk slowly forward (hold the Shift key down) and when Lara stops, sidestep right, and then you can go forward again, left and light a flare to find Secret #1, Horseman’s Gem #1 there (those skeletons didn’t take interest in me, so I just left them in peace, if they do come for you; you do have the Shotgun. (If you should have picked up the Medipack or the Uzi’s in the beginning, you would have encountered a wraith here, quick as you can get to that Bird statue N to get rid of it, you can do a run jump straight n from the entrance to get to the statue).

Now you have to get to that opening in the other corner of the room, you can follow the path walking slow, or do like I did, hang from the inside of the ledge and just shimmy around the corners till you are close to that opening and pull up to jump in there.

Climb up and push that big button on the left to open the shortcut door for the next time you’ll be here.

Proceed to the W and crawl up the slope (darts), I think you don’t have to shoot the bones.

***Around the corner is a chance to use a Gem to get a Small Medipack (you could also choose to save the Gem for later as I did).

***

Go N into the Colour Room.

The Colour Block Room.

You have to trigger 4 wall torches to open the next door. First get onto that high yellow block Lara is looking at, turning around you will notice she will look back at the blue at the entrance, so get back there and she will now look at the low green block SE. Then she will look at the pink block W near the wall torches, music plays.

After the music played the door SE opened up, but don’t leave yet, find the deepest part of the floor N between the blocks and get Secret #2, Horseman’s Gem #2 there. Now leave through the door SE and climb up W, walk slowly up to a pit. That slope left leads back down to the room with the movable pillars, but also to a Secret, slide halfway down and jump to grab the ladder, go up to get

Secret #3, Horseman’s Gem #3 there. Drop down to the slope and slide down into the room with the pillars, make your way to the opening E and follow the same route back up to that pit with the rope, that “shortcut” door now comes in handy.

Jump to grab the rope and use it to get into the opening SW (or just run-jump/grab to the opening) Go the S to the Jumps Room.

Walk to the end of the ledge, turn right to face NW, jump to the second sloped ledge (pinkish), slide down from the slope to grab the edge over the opening, drop/grab to get in and collect Secret #4, Horseman’s Gem #4 there. Go up N and then right to get back to the passage.

To the E is a crawlspace you can enter with a trick move… Stand at the right hand side of the crawlspace and hop back, now run to the opening and hit duck when you are close, Lara will get in that way (this is however a trick move, I think the way it was intended (Note by Bjorn: It was indeed intended that wayJ ) is to jump to the yellow slope in the Jumps room and then jump to grab the rope, turn around and swing up to a ledge over the rooms entrance, this will also get you to the doors at the Crossbow).

***The Crossbow, costs 3 Gems, but the best weapon to get.

We go up the ladder S of the crawlspace, up there is an opening W to the Jumps Room (this is where you would have entered using that rope). We are going S to open 3 doors with the Gems, in there you will get the Crossbow, Explosive ammo and Normal ammo.

***

Get back down the ladder and go up E, at the door you can choose between Flares or Uzi ammo, each making the other unreachable. I grabbed the Flares. The door opens, go through to the next pedestals (To the left is a door that will only open up in the Second Pass). Choose between Shotgun ammo and Large Medipack, I took the ammo (if you take the Medipack, the door to the N opens and you’ll have to take another route, described below+++). The next door E opens up and some skeletons will be released. Run into the first part of the next room, get onto one of the blocks and use some tactics to shoot the skeletons into the lower part of the room. Then get up onto the corner block NE, jump SE through the opening onto a ledge in the second part of the room and immediately back flip back onto the block. Wait till all boulders stopped and jump back into the E room, then over to the opening N and swim over to the N to get to a pillar push.

Pull the NE one back S and move the one N (you can sidestep in between the pillars) to the corner so you can enter N, do NOT step on the black tiles and get into the opening left.

+++If you would have taken the Medipack at the door, this would have been the route; Go into the passage N, watch out for the darts and take a right, jump to the rope and turn left. Swing into the opening N and grab the monkey climb there. Go straight N into the next room.

You may take the Flares in this room and hop up W, jump W and left to the opening behind the slanted block and go into the corridor. Nothing in the vase, so go up W. Up there and to the N is a short passage; you can open a door to the right to get a Large Medipack (which will cost you 1 gem). For the other door (Laser sight) you need 2 Gems, so that’s for later. Go out and enter S, quickly jump back as a boulder comes down. Stay in the middle of the ramp or you will trigger more boulders, go up to a large room with water.

Large Room with the 2 Ropes.

First go down one block, stand back and stand jump to grab the rope, swing to the second rope (aim just a bit left of it) turn left and spot the opening in the wall, swing there and jump in with a grab. Follow to Secret #5, Horseman’s Gem #5. Get out and hop down into the water swim to the far end, go left into the opening and around to get Secret #6, Horseman’s Gem #6 there. Swim back, climb up N.

***The Lasersight, costs 2 Gems, not really necessary, but nice to shoot skeletons from far away…

You could now choose to go back and get that Lasersight or get it later. I went back, go back N to the passage where you got the Medipack, open the doors left and grab the Lasersight.

***

Go back to the room with the ropes and swing to the second rope and then to that ladder pillar. Go right around and to the next ladder, down a bit to back flip to a pillar. Jump onto the slanted block SE and slide jump to the next, another jump will get you across and into a passage (Here we could have used 3 Gems to get the Revolver, but I thought the Crossbow to be better).

Grab the monkey climb at the entrance to the new room and go climb (go sideways over the steep part when Lara won’t move) and you’ll drop onto a slope. Turn around where you land and back flip to the high slope, jump and grab the monkey climb and turn around to follow through to the end of the room. Drop and grab the exit, go out and left leads back to where you were before, so go right and to that small pool N. Hop in, swim in S and get Secret #7, Horseman’s Gem #7.

Climb back out and go left (E) into the Hall of Pillars.

Hall of Pillars.

Shoot the 2 skeletons with one explosive arrow when they stand close together (Or stand on one of the higher ledges and use Crossbow/Lasersight and normal arrows to shoot off their heads). Go to a pillar S (on your right when you enter the room), pull it twice and straight away (N) from the crawlspace, so it is aligned under the pillar upstairs. A door will open up. First you can get Secret #8, Horseman’s Gem #8 from the crawlspace.

In the NE corner of the hall is a ladder, you can now go up as the door upstairs opened pulling that pillar. Go up to just above the ceiling opening and back flip from the ladder, quickly deal with the skeletons and go to a pillar that seems to be in the wrong place (4th), move it N once and under the ledge, doors open up below. Do a safety drop from the ledge where you stand and enter E.

***Hop over the pool and use 2 Gems to get Normal Grenade ammo, or use the Gems for the Super Grenade ammo a bit later and come back for this ammo pickup in the second pass.

***

Hop backwards into the water and swim into the space below the floor of the hall. Follow this tunnel to end up at a lever, throw the lever to open a door in the Hall of Pillars. Return there, go upstairs and the open door is SE. Go up the ladder and climb off to the right. Jump the roofs to the N and get rid of the skeleton. Push the big button E and a door opens in the W wall. Run down the W side into the pool below and get Secret #9, Horseman’s Gem #9 from the bottom. Climb out and go to that open door W halfway down the Hall. Jump over the slanted floor part and enter the passage.

***To the right is a door, open it with 2 Gems to get Super Grenade ammo.

***

The Grenade Gun.

To the left is a room with a pedestal and that’s where the Grenade Gun is. Pick it up and look down one of the corners of the room, below is the room with the Scroll.

The Scroll.

Hang from the edge of the floor and drop down into the water below.

Climb out and do NOT yet pick up the Scroll. Go to the dark pit between the columns E and climb down backwards, light a flare and pick up Secret #10, Horseman’s Gem #10 from the bottom.

Climb back up and pick up the Scroll from the pedestal, now more doors will have opened up throughout the whole level.

You will now have 2 Gems left and that’s enough to get those Grenades from the Hall of Pillars.

We have to go there anyway because an important pickup appeared there when picking up the Scroll.

Same route over again for the Pillar: (I’ll give short directions, if you can’t find it you’ll have to read back through the first pass)

In case you missed a Secret or two, jump first into the open door N and throw the lever to the right, this will start white smoke emitters near where all the Secrets were/are, so in case you forgot one or two, you’ll now get clues to their location. Jump back into the Scroll room.

Run jump with Ctrl into the opening SW and you’re back in the pillar room. Go E, up the slanted blocks and through the shortcut, through the colour puzzle room and into that crawlspace with the trick move, go E and then left where a new door (N) opened up at the pedestals (if you want to investigate: watch out, darts. I didn’t find anything other than 2 mummies so I skipped those rooms). Just take the same route, as before, through the boulders room E, left and hop down in the pool.

The Pharos Pillar.

On the bottom of the pool you can now find the Pharos Pillar. Go up to the opening N, into the room with the spiked floor and up left to the coloured room where you got the free Flares. Go up W, through the room with the slanted blocks and up W, left over the Boulder slope and use the ropes again to get through the large room with the pool. Pass the doors to the Revolver (3 Gems) and follow the monkey climb again to get to the Hall of Pillars. Go to that opening in the E wall and open the 2 doors to get the Normal Grenade ammo. Go up the door W, jump over into the opening W and take a left to the room above the Scroll room, drop down in a corner and in the Scroll room you can now choose out of 2 routes.

1: (Will cost you ammo, so better go for route 2 and do this one later) Jump into the open door N (left you could have opened 2 doors to get 2x Shotgun ammo, but I chose for the Grenades), try to get those skeletons all together and shoot them with a Super Grenade, one of them leaves behind a Pharos Knot, use that in the NE corner of the room, slide down and be taken to the start of the level.

2: Jump into the door SW again and pass through the room with the pillars into the opening S and S to the start of the level.

In the room where the level started you can open the door E with the Pharos Pillar.

Inside are two levers, the right hand one takes you to the “Skeleton” level. The left hand one to the “Candybox” level. They are both copies of the first level, only “Skeleton” has different game play.

Level 2- Candybox. Use the left hand lever in the E room.

This is an exact copy of the first level, only the colours are different and there are some minor changes in game play.

Go into the next room and pick up what you want from a pedestal, I suggest the pedestal in the middle.

Go N into the next room and find a bunch of movable pillars, you’ll have to get to the E side and leave a path to the NW door. Then get to the opening in the E wall.

Hop up the sloped floor and then up NE, one more NW and again find Flares S and that closed “shortcut” door N.

Invisible path.

So all we can do is go down the slide E and a flyby takes over. At the end of it you get a glance of the path through this room, but it is rather short. So walk slowly forward (hold the Shift key down) and when Lara stops, sidestep right, and then you can go forward again, left and light a flare to find Secret #11, Horseman’s Gem #11 there.

***Around the corner is a chance to use a Gem to get a Small Medipack. ***

Go N into the Colour Room.

The Colour Puzzle Room.

You have to trigger 4 wall torches again to open the next door. First get onto that high yellow block Lara is looking at, turning around you will notice she will look back at the blue at the entrance, so get back there and she will now look at the low green block SE. Then she will look at the pink block W near the wall torches, music plays.

After the Music played the door SE opened up, but don’t leave yet, find the deepest part of the floor N between the blocks and get Secret #12, Horseman’s Gem #12 there. Now leave through the door SE and climb up W, walk slowly up to a pit. That slope left leads back down to the room with the movable pillars, but also to a Secret, slide halfway down and jump to grab the ladder, go up to get Secret #13, Horseman’s Gem #13 there. Drop down to the slope and slide down into the room with the pillars, make your way to the opening E and follow the same route back up to that pit with the rope, that “shortcut” door now comes in handy.

Jump to grab the rope and use it to get into the opening SW (or just run-jump/grab to the opening). Go the S to the Jumps Room.

Walk to the end of the ledge, turn right to face NW, jump to the second sloped ledge (pinkish), slide down from the slope to grab the edge over the opening, drop/grab to get in and get Secret #14, Horseman’s Gem #14 there. Go up N and then right to get back to the passage.

To the E is a crawlspace you can enter with a trick move… Stand at the right hand side of the crawlspace and hop back, now run to the opening and hit duck when you are close, Lara will get in that way (this is however a trick move, I think the way it was intended is to jump to the yellow slope in the Jumps room and then jump to grab the rope, turn around and swing up to a ledge over the rooms entrance, this will also get you to the doors at the Crossbow).

***The Crossbow again. Costs 3 Gems, no need for the Crossbow, but maybe you’ll need the ammo.

The door opens, go through to the next pedestals. Choose between Shotgun ammo and Large Medipack. By taking the Medipack the door E remains closed, but the door N opens up (When you take the Shotgun ammo you have to go through the room with the skeletons and boulders AND do the pillar push all over). Go in and right to a pit with a rope, grab the rope and swing into the opening N (I ended up IN the wall, but a few jumps and back flips set me free again). Grab the monkey climb and go to the colour room N, get the Flares and go out W.

Jump W and left to the opening behind the slanted block and go into the corridor. Nothing in the vase, so go up W. Up there and to the N is a short passage; if you have a Gem you can open a door to the right to get a Large Medipack. For the other door (Lasersight) you need 2 Gems, so you can skip the backtracking later as you have the Sight already. Go out and enter S, quickly jump back as a boulder comes down. Stay in the middle of the ramp or you will trigger more boulders, go up to a large room with water.

First go down the blocks, hop down into the water swim to the far end, go left into the opening and around to get Secret #15, Horseman’s Gem #15 there. Swim back, climb up N stand back and stand jump to grab the rope, swing to the second rope (aim just a bit left of it) turn left and spot the opening in the wall, swing there and jump in with a grab. Follow to Secret #16, Horseman’s Gem #16. (Remember that Medipack near the Lasersight? Maybe you should go back and get it before moving on).

If you choose not to go back, you can jump out SW to that pillar. Then jump grab to that ladder pillar.

Hop in, swim in S and get Secret #17, Horseman’s Gem #17.

Climb back out and go left (E) into the Hall of Pillars.

Hall of Pillars.

No real need to shoot the mummies here, just avoid them. Go to the pillar S, pull it twice and straight away (N) from the crawlspace, so it is aligned under the pillar upstairs. A door will open up. First you can get Secret #18, Horseman’s Gem #18 from the crawlspace.

***Hop over the pool and use 2 Gems to get Normal Grenade ammo.***

Hop into the water and swim into the space below the floor of the hall. Run down the W side into the pool below and get Secret #19, Horseman’s Gem #19 from the bottom.

Go to the dark pit between the columns E and climb down backwards, light a flare and pick up Secret #20, Horseman’s Gem #20 from the bottom.

Climb back up and pick up the Scroll from the pedestal. The doors open up again, go through the one N to fight skeletons and use the Pharos Knot or go through the door SW and follow through S to get to the level start.

Go into the room E and throw the right hand lever.

Level 3- Skeleton. Use the right hand lever in the E room.

Could be I missed to mention a few enemies, you know how to deal with them.

There are 2 levers in this start room, the left one will take you back to the first level and the right hand one to the second.

Go N and this time you can pick up all the items on the pedestals, including a Grenade Gun, Shotgun and Revolver plus ammo for those and also 2 Large Medipacks. Go N and shoot the enemies, beetles will appear so quickly get up E, I just ran past those skeletons. Jump the slopes and go down the passage E, hang from the red ledge to get rid of those beetles. Either run and jump N to the opening NW or take on the mummies. Go into the opening and up to the shortcut door. Open it and get all the enemies as close together as possible before shooting them. Go up the slope a bit and more beetles appear, run back down to that room with the red ledges and they will be gone too.

Back up the slope W and into the colour room where you will be joined by a Wraith. I couldn’t figure out where to get rid of that Wraith. The statue in the room with the red ledges is not there this time. So I just shot at the Wraith till it went below ground.

Go out of the colour room and climb up, up the slope to the pit with the rope (and left down the slide to jump and grab the ladder if you want the Small Medipack there, make your way back up to the pit with the rope)

Jump over to the opening S, the jumps room is gone, but the crawlspace opened up wide. Shoot the Mummies and go up the ladder S, get another Laser sight, Crossbow and Explosive ammo for it.

Down the ladder, where 2 skeletons appeared and to the E, beetles appear (run back to the pit and they are gone) where you’ll find Grenade ammo and Shotgun ammo left and right. More to the E is a Large Medipack on a pedestal; shoot the skeletons coming from the left. Go E through the former boulder room, left to the pool and out N, through the room with the spikes and up left.

Get the Revolver ammo in the colour room and go up W, through the room with the slanted blocks and up the corridor. Shoot more skeletons and go left around the corner, careful… Somebody put the boulders back!

Go up the slope and the entrance to that large room with the 2 ropes is closed off, so go left up the steps to the small pool, shoot all the enemies and dive in to get that Small Medipack where you got the Secret before. Get back out and jump over to the other side, go left and shoot the resistance. Get the Grenade ammo in the room over the Scroll room and drop down in a corner.

Get out and shoot those Mummies, jump into the opening N, get the 2x Shotgun ammo from the passage left and try to get those skeletons all together to shoot them with a Super Grenade, one of them leaves behind the Pharos Knot, use that in the NE corner of the room, slide down and be taken to the start of the level. First go into the room N and get the Shotgun ammo, go back.

I could never find a level ending, was throwing levers and switching to and fro between levels for a while, so I just quit there.

18-04-2010.

Notes by Bjorn: Regarding the wraith, in the first level it disappears when you stand a few seconds next to the statue. In the third level, indeed there isn’t a statue, the wraith stays a while, but during test play, I noticed that is was gone after some time.

The slide down and the glance of Lara slowly swimming away, accompanied by the classic Tomb Raider theme was meant as an end. But yes, perhaps it doesn’t looks so since you go straight back to the beginning of the level. Well, than that’s one of the things to improve in a possible next level…

Thanks for playing my level!
