The NG Level Editor From the Inside

 

The level editor is a lot foggier than one might have imagined...Lara goes to a gap in the railing and looks down. In the level editor, death tiles are light green in color,  so it is best not to fall down to the light green floor.

 

Take a running jump to grab the first pole (Lara's movements seem a little different, so this took me several tries). Use the forward key to swing around the pole, press jump to leap to the next pole, avoiding the swinging blade.  At the end, grab and hang from a block (don't pull up—spike trap). Shimmy around right to drop, go down at the gap in the corner. Drop down and find that this is a climbing surface. Drop to a slope, slide down backwards, and hang from the edge.

 

It doesn't work if Lara pulls up and does a jump/twist, missing the pole. Instead, while hanging from the edge, just press Down Key. Lara automatically pulls up, turns, and now she leaps to grab the pole. Swing forward, jump to slide down a slope almost to the bottom, jump to grab the next pole, and continue to the end block on right. Now to come back down the room. Make a running jump to the pole, swing to grab a ladder, and take a crawlspace to the end. Lower down backwards and fall onto a safe block.

 

Jump into a water pit in the corner. Swim halfway down the room, on the right use an underwater lever. Suddenly Lara is in air. Now the only way is to jump into a pit, whereupon Lara finds herself flat on her back in a new room.

 

Cold Water Room

 

There will be much to do in this room. The water is damaging cold, and there are sinks around the boat, so beware when swimming. Note the central pillar in the water, and the visible jump switch on its side. Also spot on top the structure what looks like a wall button. For now go to the north end of the room, climb the ladder, use Up Arrow at the top to grab a monkey swing. Swing over against the pillar, drop to grab the jump switch, fall into the water and quickly get out. Run back to the block where Lara appeared in this room.

 

The overhead grating has fallen. Jump up to grab a platform overhead. (While hanging, the Jump Key takes Lara straight up to a ladder above, but this goes nowhere.) On the platform, jump to grab a shimmy crack in the S wall, shimmy across to the next platform. Turn around to jump to a N platform (I ignored the swinging blade, and that worked). Take a standing jump/grab to the next platform. Do a running jump/grab to the central platform, and press the button on the N wall.

 

Poisoned Corridor—Safe Water

 

Jump into the E corridor. The air is poisonous, so sprint through, drop out onto a platform in a safe room. Look around: the tall pillar on the N wall is topped by a rising block, and so is now empty; Lara will get there later after the block is lowered. The only way is to jump into the water and go down, follow along the passage, and pull out. On one side here there is a ladder blocked by a trapdoor, and a snake receptacle. Go that way, past the ladder. Make a U-turn left and then a U-turn right, and run toward a green square in the end wall. There is an explosion, and a demoness appears; shoot her to get a flower (called LOAD).

 

Don't Do This Paragraph

 

Lara could continue along the passageway the way she was going—but don't—to find that this leads to a palm tree in the SE corner. She could drop through a closed grating, pick up a chalice, and climb out through that closed grating. Doing this will probably cause the game to crash if Lara returns to that SE corner. So it is better to assume that Lara, having impeccable manners, saw the closed grating, and reversed course back to the ladder.

 

Push Block

 

Return to the ladder. Use the flower in the snake mouth to drop the trapdoor. Climb up to find a push block on the walkway to Lara's right. Move the block down the walkway, around a corner, to the center, and place it on the mask tile opposite the Uzis on a pedestal. Hear a trapdoor fall. Oh, yes, pick up Uzi clips and Uzis. Drop down to the passageway below, go to a palm tree in the SE corner where a grate has fallen open. Now drop down to pick up a chalice (called Amulet of Horus), return to the ladder and climb again to the upper walkways.

 

A Confused Demoness

 

Go around to the E doorway and hop into it. Go forward to trigger another explosion and demoness to appear. Clearly Lara is supposed to shoot her, but every time I played this the demoness ended up running into a corner next to the push button in the E wall. So ignore her, and push the center button. Get a camera shot of the room with safe water. (The block on the pillar there lowers, but the camera shot doesn't seem to show that.) Also in this room the N gate opens. The least observant will spot the boulder at the top of the ramp.

 

Position Lara to hop up to the N ramp, and immediately back flip to safety. Let the boulder roll into the water, then go up the ramp.  Turn the corner, slide down into water, swim forward and climb out on a N ledge, turn left and climb up higher. Look around and see that Lara is back where she was, but now a block has gone down at the pillar on the N wall, so a mask is reachable.

 

New Moves For A Mask

 

The route requires Lara's new moves. Jump over to the high SW block. Turn to face the swing pole, somewhat to the left of center (Lara will even grab out at the end), and make a standing jump to grab it. Swing forward to the slope, and while sliding hop with a right curve to the corner block. Now Lara slides down backwards, grabs, and hangs from its edge. Press Down Arrow to have Lara pull up, and jump back to grab the pole. Continue across to the corner, then jump to the N pillar to retrieve the mask.

 

Time to return. Make a running jump to the platform in front of the W doorway. Pull into the poisoned corridor, sprint through it, to jump out to the central platform in the room with the boat. From on top the central platform look down SE to the block where Lara first arrived in this room, spot the receptacle for the mask.

 

Warning: Soldiers About

 

Drop down to the walkway, run over to place the mask. Once it is placed, two soldiers start shooting at Lara, so be quick to defend. After they fall both soldiers will drop small medipacks, so go pick both of them up.

 

Jump into the boat in the water. Take the boat through the opened S gate, dropping down, and continue to the end wall. This hardly seems like much of a trip, but the boat is necessary for Lara to survive this passage of cold water. Jump out of the boat with Shift + Left Arrow (at least this worked for me after a few tries, including repositioning the boat). Swim under the end wall and forward, up to the upper ledges and quickly out of the water.

 

There is a closed gate on one wall, and a lever on a block. Use the lever to drop the water level. Go down the ladder, and around the side of the same pillar to push a button. A soldier on the upper walkway starts firing at Lara. From the edge of the platform, try jumping up and down shooting at him. There are two soldiers above, so it helps if Lara can take them out before climbing the ladder. After they drop, climb up and find that neither of them left anything behind.

 

Key To Exit

 

Go through the open E gate, and look ahead to a pillar with a key on it. That really is a fire pillar below, as the tile indicates, so avoid it and others about the room. Jump to the ground and take out a soldier who approaches. He leaves a large medipack. Climb on the low pillar that is against the central pillar, and pull up to get a Gold Key (called LOAD). (There is a lever on a block on the E wall, and the tile in front of it is the same texture as other safe tiles in this room. But this tile is deadly, and the lever appears to be useless and unapproachable.)

 

Go to the N pillar and around to the backside to find a ladder. Climb to the top of the ladder to find a gold keyhole to the right and a soldier approaching from in front. Shoot the soldier, use the key. The room shakes. Go to the south wall, and jump to a green untextured block affixed to the wall. Pull up into the opening above, walk forward into haze, and the level ends.
