Jungle Level

Level by TRTombLevBauer

Walkthrough by dmdibl (David Dibble)

These can be complicated levels. Even after playing them it is not clear in what order certain tasks should be accomplished for most efficient play. Routes or jump sequences may be done in different ways.

In the Jungle - level 1

Lara stands in what looks like a TR3 jungle. Walk a few steps outward on the "log" where Lara stands, then jump straight up to grab a branch overhead, pull up. From the inner part of the branch, Lara stand jumps/grabs to a corner pillar of the structure. From here jump to the center roof and pick up a small medipack. Get back down. Beneath, almost in the center of the structure, drop down into a hole.

Lara will start to slide, but quickly try to jump off to the right (N). In the NE corner pick up flares. Get back to the slide, then slide down the next portion into a large room with overhead branches and monkeyswings. There is lots to do here so look around for a few minutes.

Lava Room Lever

In the SW corner there is a side room with lava. Take a running jump/grab to the nearest pillar, then a jump to the pillar SE, then to a pillar with ladder. From here jump down to the SW corner and throw a wall levera gate opens in the trees of the big room. Now to get back to the ladder on the side of the pillar. Make a running jump N, bounce right with a slight curve right, hit the edge of the next slope and jump with a hard curve left to grab the ladder. (Actually, from the switch Lara can jump N with a slight curve left, to drop and hang from the middle of this first slope. Pull up, hesitate slightly, then do a jump/twist curve slight right to easily hit the final slope, and jump curve left to grab the ladder.) Get to the top of the tall pillar, and jump back across the pillars out of this room.

Open Gate Tree Route

Once into the big room turn immediately right, and run at a slight angle left to a long rising "branch" slope. At its top turn left (N), make a running jump to the slope ahead, bounce left to stand. Turn north and see where the gate opened on a tree branch. (Since Lara is here, jump down by the stone lions to pick up a small medipack. Then jump back to this pillar.) Do a running jump/grab to where the gate opened.

Walk forward and around the bend left to a tree. Up and to the right of the tree trunk are markings that indicate that this is a climbable surface. Lara could stand jump/grab, go up here and then shimmy left onto the side of a higher east branch. She can move out from the tree trunk and pull up onto that east branch. There is an east pointing monkeyswing that she can jump up to grab, and this is the best route to start with. However, I went for some pickups first. The next paragraphs are optional for a few pickups.

Corner Gate

Walk to the bend in the branch, in back of the open gate, and face NE. On the ground there is a gate in that corner and a pillar left of it. Do a running jump toward that pillar. Probably Lara lands just before the pillar, and slides down into a corner behind the closed gate. There is a hole here with water far below, and flares in one corner. But where Lara slid down there is a wall lever. For now, throw the wall lever to open this gate for later, and exit back to the big room.

Explore High Branches

Go back to the SW corner and climb the low pillar that is in front of the lava room entrance. Jump north, and here climb a higher pillar. Angle slightly left of north, and jump to a ladder on the side of a tree. Climb up, shimmy around left, and drop onto a branch. Go back toward the wall on this branch, with Lara still on the highest portion. Use binoculars to look SE, and you can just spot a small medipack on a distant branch.

Follow the branches left, making jumps clockwise around to the other side of the tree, until Lara is underneath a monkeyswing. Look to a pillar SW (too far to reach). The nearby tree branch in front of that pillar may look steep, but Lara can stand at its end. Jump to the sloping tree branch tip, and from there to the pillar. Lara can make the jump all the way south to an extended tree branch. Turn left, hop over to pick up a small medipack.

From here jump east, and onto the easternmost branch, up to get flares. Slide down, return the way Lara came, but don't try to reach the pillar from this side. Instead there is an intermediate pillar, low down and obscured by leaves. Jump there, and then make a standing jump/grab to the pillar Lara used before. From here to the tree branch. Lara can make a running jump back to the tree branch under the monkeyswing. It would be too easy to start with this monkeyswing, so instead Lara will go for the monkeyswing high on the E branch. (Lara can always get down lower, and climb there using the route previously explained.)

East Monkeyswing

Lara can't jump directly to the east branch. Instead jump to the west branch, then to the north branch. Lara should land on a spot where she can stand. Standing on the north branch, turn SE and notice that the side of the east branch is climbable. Jump and grab over there, shimmy left and pull up. Now hop up higher, next to the trunk. Jump straight up to grab the monkeyswing. Lara may have to turn sideways at first to go out on the branch, follow the monkeyswing to a high crawlspace, drop, grab, and get inside.

To the left is a dead end with a small medipack. Get it and come back, go to the right. Near the end, stand and pull up out of the hole. Adjacent to the hole, on the north, Lara can pull up higher. Then jump/grab to the opening NE. A running jump/grab east, followed by a running jump (no grab).

A Laborious Medipack

Yes, Lara can get the small medipack down SE, but in my game she refused to make the effort and just continued straight ahead. If you do want it, jump down and pick up small medipack. Face south, and pull up on the right side of the pillar. Slide and jump to the slope ahead on the right, bounce right with a slight curve right, so Lara bounces off facing forward, and can curve right to land on the pillar back in the middle. Get to the rear of the diagonal surface, make a running jump returning down the middle of the room, slide on that pillar, jump and grab the last pillar. From here pull up and slide, jump to rocks, slide back and hang, shimmy to the right and pull up. Jump back into the first opening where Lara started. (Maybe Lara had a point about skipping this.) Once again make the jumps to the two pillars east.

Continue making a running jump/grab straight east. Crawl through to a room with a closed ceiling trapdoor. Go out a SE opening to a routine placid pool with piranha in the water.

Water Room (Low)

Jump to the pillar ahead, then make jumps SW and SW (standing jumps will do). Jump into the W opening behind the flow of water, use the floor lever. Jump back to the same pillar, then use a short-takeoff jump* (aka walking jump) to reach the second pillar, then a running jump, then to the entrance. [*For a short-takeoff jump hold down the shift key while Lara starts to take a step forward, then release the shift key and immediately press the jump (Alt) key. Lara uses about half a square, but gets the full distance of a running jump.]

In this room the ceiling trapdoor in the west is now open. Pull up above. There doesn't seem to be much to do. But go to the NE corner, face east, and pull up into a crawlspace. Get over the hole, and at the end turn to the right and pull up.

Water Room, Tricky Jumps

Follow to the outside water room again, and jump out right SW. From the SW corner of the ledge where Lara landed, make a running jump SW. Lara hits a slope, slides back to hang, shimmies left, and pulls up. Be very careful of the running water to the left, for if Lara steps into the water it will wash her over the edge and into the piranha pool. From this spot pull up higher to the west.

Turn to the right (N), and walk up to the flowing water at the edge of the precipice. Look north to see a triangular ledge almost at the height of Lara's head. She needs to reach that ledge. I did it by backing Lara up about two squares away from the water. She was on a green square and could not back up any farther because of a slope behind her. Then she did a short-takeoff jump (to get more room), landed in the flowing water, continued to run and jump up to that triangular ledge on the far side. You may need a few practice trials to adjust for the flow of water.

Jump up and grab to the north. Shimmy to the right, and pull up where Lara can stand. Now do a running jump westLara can start running NWto beyond the point where Lara started her shimmy, to a flat ledge. From here do a running jump SW to a flat rock in front of flowing water. Make a running jump south over the water. On this high ledge continue counterclockwise around the area, getting to flowing water on the opposite side.

Jump that, continue to a green area, then angle left (NW) and jump into a gap in the rocks. Crawl inside, turn around, and go down a ladder.

Gag Lever

Turn around, see a wall lever. But light a flare, and examine the wall on the left. Push a block forward, and get a screenshot of it falling down into a room outside. (Yes, that is the room where Lara was previously, the room on top the ceiling trapdoor.) Before jumping out Lara can use the wall lever. All that happens is that floor blades try to snap shut on her. [Author comment on forum is that this lever is only for fun.]

Timed Pillar Run

Jump out to the top of the pillar. That block is now on the floor, where Lara can move it if she needs to get back up. From the top of the pillar jump to grab an alcove NW. The lever here is timed, and opens a gate that is directly opposite. So save your game. Throw the lever, roll, make a running jump to the pillar. Lara can't simply keep running, but needs to set up the next jump. So I found it natural to make the jump to the pillar, but make it a hard left curve with Lara in the air. Then she lands to the left. Now she turns and has space on top the pillar to make a running jump to the opposite alcove, grab it, pull up, and roll as the gate is closing.

Use the lever here. What you see is a gate opening in the piranha pool. So drop to the ground, then down into the nearby open trapdoor. Go out the SE opening and jump to the first pillar.

Stupid Piranha

Stand at the S edge, and look down and to the left to see where the gate opened in the floor. Save here, because it seemed a matter of chance as to how many piranha follow when Lara jumps into that hole. If too many fish follow, then reload and try again. (What I did for this walkthrough was have Lara hang from the pillar on the opposite side from the hole. The fish congregated beneath her. Then she pulled up on the pillar and did a short-takeoff jump, landed in the hole and swam down without a single fish following her.)

Keep swimming through the turns, and in the next room pull out of the water in the SW. Turn and make a diagonal running jump up to the stones in the middle of the water. From the center, jump up to the NE corner of the room. Do a running jump up to the south ledge. Jump across the room to the high ledge, walk a few steps forward, turn S and make a standing jump to a monkey swing. Take it to the S crawlspace, drop and grab.

Four Moving Spike Walls

Crawl through, drop down in the hole, landing by a spike wall. Hmm....Before anything happens notice the keyhole on the pillar, although this is for later. To the right of the keyhole, there is a trapdoor next to the pillar. Now throw the wall lever next to where Lara fell down.

Four spikes walls start to move, but nothing to be alarmed about. Dodge them and get to the right, west, from that first lever. Here is a second lever in an alcove, and also a closed gate up in the wall. Use this lever. I simply waited for the spike wall, and it bounced away with only very slight damage to Lara. Then she ran to the right, timing the spike walls, and did the lever in the S alcove. Here Lara can stand by the lever and take no damage at all from the spike wall. Continue around the room, doing the levers. There is a similar lever behind the spike wall N near where Lara threw the first lever, so counting that first lever there are five levers in all. Then the trapdoor opens in the floor next to the pillar. Drop down to hang, let go and fall.

Cavern of Moving Platforms

First swim to the middle N of the room. Swim down and back into a cave, to find a large medipack at the end. Swim out, go right (W) to where flame emitters are. On the right side swim shallowly, so Lara goes over a sloping ledge, then surfaces to stand on it. Pull out of the water when the fire emitter here dies down, run up the stairs to the center. Pull a lever. Spikes pop up the stairs sequentially on either side, but don't reach the landing with the lever, so back away and drop down.

Jump to a moving platform straight ahead, turn left and jump to the next platform, turn right and jump to that one. The platforms are a little odd, in that they may seem to move upward while Lara is still pulling onto a phantom platform below, but once Lara has pulled up she will appear on top the platform. Jump to the middle E platform, and to the ledge east.

Pull out the block from the middle of the wall. Push it to the right (S) to a marked tile. A screenshot shows more of the moving platforms set in motion. Go in the opening where the push block was to get Uzi clips and small medipack.

Push Block Solution

At this point I falsely assumed that Lara should go outside and jump back to the double platform west. Turn left (S) and while the platform is at its top, make a running jump/grab to the south platform. This proved very difficult, if not impossible. So I tried to be sneaky. I moved the push block back to its original opening, then pushed the block inside between the small ledges that held the goodies. Then Lara gets behind the block and pushes it outside to the edge of the ledge. Push it all the way to the left (S) side. Stand on top the block, and now it is an easy jump/grab to that south platform. It turns out that this is the way it is supposed to be done. (Which sort of kills the fun.)

Turn south and pull straight up higher. Turn right and make a running jump to the block projecting from the wall. Walk toward the center of the room, make an angled standing jump left (NW) to a moving platform, jump from here to the center. Now go east, toward the push block. Use binoculars on the higher ledge east if you can't make out the keys at its ends. So Lara wants to go east, but I found it easier to go around the room. That is, from the center jump to a NW platform. From here, jump to the wall projection on the N side. Get to the highest point here. Now jump to the first eastern platform, grabbing it to pull up.

East Ledge, Falling Debris

At this point look east and notice that there is ceiling debris that is likely to fall on Lara when she is on the east ledge, so be warned. Jump to the east ledge from here. Turn left (N), and see ceiling debris that will fall before Lara reaches the key. Lara can hang from the east ledge and safely shimmy over to the north key. Shimmy all the way. I had the debris fall even while Lara was getting the old key, but this way it doesn't harm her. Jump over debris and carefully walk south along the edge. Debris should fall harmlessly. Jump over it, but enough nonsense. Just shimmy south all the way to the rusty key.

Don't try walking back either. Shimmy back to the middle of the east ledge. From here make a standing jump to the center moving platform. As this platform moves downso that Lara doesn't hit her headjump to the central structure. There is a keyhole here, but no place yet for Lara to stand.

Keys for Lift Platform

Jump to the NW platform as Lara did before. From here Lara can make a running jump to the west upper ledge. Fires start up, ignore them. Use the old key, and a platform rises up in the middle of the room.

A standing jump to the fast moving middle platform, and once again jump to the central structure, timing it so that Lara avoids hitting her head. Once there Lara can use the rusty key in the keyhole. Enjoy the elevator ride.

Green Key, Revolving Spike Walls

Jump out and run down a corridor. At the end turn right and jump to pull out. Take a few steps forward and turn right, spot a ladder in the far corner wall. Lara will use it in a few moments. Now go back to the hole and left, forward around the right spike wall to the SW corner. Pick up a Green Key.

The spike walls begin to revolve. Lara has room to hop to the hole and over it, run straight to the corner, turn right and run to the corner and jump up to climb the ladder. Climb most of the way up, then back flip/twist to grab the back of a slope. Pull up, slide, jump to a raised ledge in the corner (for some reason this feels like a timed ledge, but isn't. Maybe it's the music.) Turn left and jump to grab the edge, pull up, slide, jump to the corner, bounce left with a slight left turn, bounce to the center, grab, and pull up.

Empty Water Channels

Standing here in the center of the room, Lara can see a high SW lever, but can't reach it yet. Make a diagonal jump NE, then jump up east. If Lara runs around here things look a little odd, as this is a sluice gate and water channel, currently dry. Get up on one side, and look to the center to see flares up on a pillar, although there doesn't seem any way to get them. [Author commented that there is no way to get those flares.]

Flood Rooms

Drop down in the hole on the east side, and Lara is back in the room with four moving spike walls. Remember the keyhole on the pillar? Go to the central pillar and use the green key. The room floods. Lara can surface, but can't pull out against the flow of water. So dive down into the floor hole. Swim down the corridor, but take caution when swimming up into the revolving spike walls overhead. Swim up to the SW corner, and now Lara can climb out onto a ledge and use the lever.

Get a screenshot of the room where Lara just used the green key. A spike wall explodes, an open wall gate is now accessible. Swim over to the NE, get out of the water, jump up east. Jump into the water east, and swim down into the west alcove and into the open gate. Continue along a passage, surface in one hole in a room, cross the room and drop down into another hole.

The Second Green Key

Below find a second green key in the middle of a fire. To the west there are side ramps with spiked balls. Below the spike balls, there are wall levers. The right (N) lever appears to do nothing constructive. Of course, if Lara pulls this lever and simply stands still (instead of back flipping) then the spike ball will roll down the ramp and crush her. So throw the left (S) lever. This time Lara does NOT want to back flip, as that would put her in the path of the spike ball. It rolls down a ramp and puts out the fire, then continues downward. Go get a Green Key.

Go down to an area with greenery. The central square next to the spike ball is a hole. Hang from it, and drop down into a pool of water. Lara is back in the big room where she started. Congratulations! Lara has completed preliminary preparations.

Starting Area, North Monkeyswing

Climb out in the SW corner and climb the low pillar in front of the lava room entrance. From the pillar jump north, climb the higher pillar, and jump north to a ladder on a tree. Climb up, shimmy around left, and drop onto a branch. As before, jump around to the north, and then to the east, to get under an obvious monkeyswing. Standing on the highest point of the branch, turn around to face N, and make a standing jump in that direction to grab the monkeyswing. Turn around, monkeyswing south, west, north, go to a gap in the wall. Drop and grab the opening.

Once inside go around left to pull a lever. This raises a platform outside, which will later make a handy shortcut. Lara can get to that platform, then use a wall crack to shimmy to this opening, and not have to use the monkeyswing. (An explanation for later: If you try now, with Lara hanging from the opening, it is impossible to shimmy left to the newly risen platform. If she could it would be easy to get down from here by using the platform, jumping to the corner pillar, and jumping onto the slide that first brought her into this area. Later on Lara will find a different way to get back down to the big starting area.)

Four-Doorway Room

For now, go inside north, pull a side wall lever to open a gate. Enter a room with four doors at cardinal compass points. This will be an important hub. Pick up a large medipack in the middle of the room. Screenshot of gate closing behind Lara. Trapped.

Light a flare and run around the room, find a push block next to the SW corner. Pull it out and push it aside. Crawl into the opening; when Lara reaches a dark room better light a flare. In the middle of the east wall is a ceiling opening, so pull up, go to the SE, turn and go up into light. Get out of the hole. In this upper area use a NW floor lever. One of the four doors opened in the room where Lara just was.

Finally Some Secrets

No sense returning the way Lara came. Instead go to the more centrally located hole (the one with greenery) and drop to hang facing west. Drop and grab a crawlspace, crawl into it for Secret #1, 2x Uzi clips and large medipack. Back out of the crawlspace. If Lara simply drops the fall may kill her, so drop and grab the wall crack below. Shimmy lower to the right, drop and roll when Lara hits the ground.

Lara is back near the opening at the end of the monkeyswing. Go inside north, use the wall lever on the side wall by moving it back up, and the door re-opens. Go into the room, and see that the door to the right (E) opened when Lara used the floor lever. Go up the stairs until there is a side passage to the left.

East Outside Area

Go out left and look around. There is a large hole in the floor and a needed mask on the middle ledge below. This looks like a feasible jump down, but the author has placed an invisible barrier around all those lower ledges, so any attempt to jump down will be impossible.

Make as if to go back out to the stairs, but stop at the doorway, turn left (S). Next to the doorway, pull up on the left back side of a slope. Slide, jump off with a left curve, bounce off that slope ahead and grab the back edge of the next slope. Pull up, spot a crack in the wall, slide and jump to grab the crack. Shimmy left all the way around the room, over the closed gate and on to a corner where Lara can pull up.

Crawl inside, slide down a dark slope, and go into a room to get Secret #2, small medipack, 2x pistol ammo (??), large medipack. Now it is impossible to get out by the long slope, but Lara can jump up to a hole in the ceiling facing W. Crawl through, slide down. Lara is back in the room with a floor lever. Go to the central hole with greenery and make as if Lara is getting that first secret again, that is drop to grab the crawlspace, drop to grab the crack below it, shimmy right, and drop to the floor below.

Up Stairs to Timed Spikes

Once again go N into the next room, go right (E) back up the stairs. This time when Lara nears the top of the stairs ignore the passage to the left. Go straight up the stairway, step into the next area and spikes pop up. These are timed, operated by the wall lever behind Lara. The point is to use the lever, then make a jump to the right, and go around the room in a counterclockwise direction. When Lara ends up on the ledge on the left there is a jump switch to use.

So do that. Pull the lever, turn to the right and make a curved run so that Lara takes off from the right tip of the ledge, and lands on the right side of the right pillar. Turn left, make a running jump, keep running on the next pillar, then jump for the end pillar. Rather than try to land on it, I had Lara aim left, where she can grab the side. Pull up. This is the one spot where it pays to set Lara up. Make a running jump to the slanted pillar east, bounce off it with a curve right, land and keep running, jump and grab the final pillar. Pull up, no shimmy, and run to the jump switch. Use it to see a trapdoor go up that is more or less below where Lara is standing now.

Raise Trapdoor, the Way to Cavern

Jump off to the right (S) so that Lara slides down backwards. Shimmy right if necessary (you can probably see the raised trapdoor below). Drop and slide to land on that trapdoor. Jump up to the south, at the end climb a ladder to the right. Take a winding way up, get into a cave, and stand on the highest portion in front of Lara.

Now to the south see a dark green cave. To the north is an opening leading to a new area. Lara takes a third way. From standing on that raised area go SE to a crawlspace. Crawl inside and throw a lever on the wall straight ahead. See a door open in the room with four doors at its cardinal points. This is important for a mask.

Detour for a Secret

Get back to the cave. At this point Lara can go for a secret. Go south into the dark green cave. This is tricky, so save the game. Lara can step out, and bounce and slide about seven times, and then slide on a white-pebbled textured surface down into the lava room from the start. At the end of the slide jump to grab a tall pillar for safety.

However, after sliding and bouncing about seven times, Lara can jump just as she sees the white-pebbled textured slide. She jumps over that slide, and into an opening where there is a golden grill. Go to the west, jump out of the west opening angling right or Lara will fall into the lava room below. Make a standing jump north, and north again. Climb a pillar. At this point it looks as though Lara can use the diagonal surface to make a running jump north, perhaps having to make a bounce and a curve jump at the end to make it. In fact, the only way from the pillar is to turn to the wall, and jump up to grab the edge above. Shimmy left as far as Lara can go. Drop down to the ground. Hear music. Run across to the far side of the area and go left to pick up Secret #3, 2x large medipack and Uzi clips.

There are several ways out. On this west side of the room, go to the south. Stand in the middle of the first square that is south of the tree, face west and back off the edge. Slide, hang, drop to land on a slope, slide and hang from this. Lara has been here before. Pull up onto the slope, hesitate a moment, back flip/twist with a curve right to hit the edge of a slope, bounce off with a hard curve left and grab a ladder. Climb up to the top of a pillar. Make the jumps as before out of this room.

Route Back to Four-Doorway Room

Exit the lava room and climb the short pillar. You know the routine. Jump north, climb the higher pillar there, jump north to a ladder on the tree. Climb up, shimmy left. Drop to a branch, and jump to the north branch. But this time from the end of the north branch do a running jump NW to a pillar top. From here do a diagonal running jump NE to the platform that Lara raised with a lever. Jump up to a wall crack, and shimmy right to get into the opening.

The First Mask

Run north into the room with four doors. When Lara was up in the cavern she opened the door here on the left (W). Go inside and pick up the first *Ominous Dark Mask*. Hear warning music, while the door closes behind Lara. You may think the Shiva statues will come to life and attack. But all that happens is that Lara goes to the SE and looks up to the left to spot a jump switch (light a flare as needed). Use jump switch, the exit door opens. There is one more mask to find.

Go out, and continue across the next room east, and take those stairs upward again. As Lara gets near the top of the stairs, take the turn to the left and go outside. On the north side, go to the middle of a hole in the floor. Hang from the edge where there is a clear path down. Drop down into the water below. (As Lara falls, you may spot the second mask on middle ledges. Sorry, a lot needs to be done before Lara reaches it.)

Underwater Caverns

Lara can pull out of the water, but there is a spike-trapped wall surrounding this area; don't try to jump over it. In the water, dive down into a central hole and swim through a passage. Go up, and in this next room down into a central hole NW. In this lower room face north, see two wall openings. Take the opening on the left. In this next chamber Lara can swim up to the middle of the ceiling into an air hole.

From the air hole go down. Lara can swim SE back to the hole in the wall. This time take the other hole in the north wall, around to the left. In this chamber there is a small medipack in the central floor shaft. If Lara gets it she will probably have to go back to the chamber with the ceiling air hole. Replenish your air supply. Swim down again. This time Lara takes a NE hole in the wall to reach the same chamber a little quicker. This does get confusing. Taking this route, swim over the central hole where the small medipack was, to the SE and go down the shaft into a bluish light.

Raise Inside Pillars by Spike Trap

In this chamber swim to the NW, not at floor level, but up higher into the corner, to find another shaft going down. When Lara exits this shaft be sure to swim directly west and at the end go up into a shaft and surface for air. Save your game! Pull out and use a wall lever directly ahead. Get a screenshot of the pool that Lara fell into, and of two pillars going up. They will be essential later for getting over those ringing spikes. But while the screenshot has been going on two fire emitters have started up and are toasting Lara.

Reload your save game. This time use the wall lever, and immediately back flip into the water hole. Well, there is little sense giving directions out of the caverns, as most players already have a firm mental map of the route Lara took.

Escape Underwater Caverns

For those who were distracted, here is the route back. Swim down, straight east, and up into the ceiling hole, a square of so from the end wall. Go up the shaft. Swim SE across the room and up into a shaft in the corner. Now Lara is back in the room where she found the small medipack. Swim NW to a hole in the wall. This next chamber is the one with an air hole in the ceiling, so take a few deep breaths.

Dive down. Lara doesn't want to go back to the previous chamber. Instead swim SE to the hole in the wall there. In the next room swim straight across SE to the corner and take a ceiling shaft upward a short ways. Keep swimming SEit may not look like there is anything therebut this time get into the corner and go down. Follow the passage, go up at the end, and Lara is back at the starting pool.

A Way Back to Starting Area

Get out of the water. The two pillars that Lara raised are for later, so for now go into the W opening. Run to the plant ahead and shoot a snake with pistols. Pick up Uzi clips that were under the snake. Then go S and jump up in an opening there for a small medipack. Continue S to return back to the big starting room again. Do a safety drop down to the floor.

The routine should be familiar. Go to the SW pillar and get up, make the jumps north to a ladder on the tree, get up onto a branch, and from a north branch make a jump to the corner pillar, and from here to the raised platform against the wall. Use the shimmy crack to go right and up into the opening there.

Back to Cavern

Run north into the four-doorway room, and go right up the stairs. Go to the top of the stairs, to the room with the spike timed run. This time just make a running jump straight out, but angled left, so that Lara hits the left slopes below, and slides back to grab and hang. Shimmy right several squares, until Lara is over the raised trapdoor that you can see below. Drop down to it.

Turn right and jump into an opening. Go inside, take the right ladder, and follow as before up into a cavern. (Before Lara went south here for a secret.) This time take the opening to the north.

Large Outdoor Area

Jump up into the outside green area to the left. Lara can get up in the SW, against the end wall. There is a small medipack in the SE corner, so face east and make a jump across a gap, grab up to the SE rock, and pick up a small medipack.

Now Lara wants to get across to the north, getting around a large ceiling opening for the room below. Shimmy either on the east or west side to get across to the north. Here there is a big pit which Lara needs to cross without falling into its central hole. So save your game. I just made a running jump to the north into the pit, Lara slid, tried jumping angling north, did frantic jumps near the central hole and ended up standing on a NE tile from the hole. It's a little hard to plan anything, but just do it.

Up Out of the Pit

From that tile Lara jumps up NW, then N, then NW, and Lara is across the pit, standing on the left (W) side, which is where she wants to be. Now use a short-takeoff jump to get up higher SW. From here do a running jump to land left of the pillar near the wall. Get between the pillar and the wall, make a running jump north to land in front of a lever. Use it. See a block go up. Now when Lara is down below in the swamp, she will be able to get back to the upper levels without doing all these tasks again.

The doors are currently shut at this upper level so make your way down into the swamp. Stop while Lara is still on high ground. Look to the NW corner of the swamp (use binoculars if necessary) to spot a lever.

Swamp Lever, Raise Last Pillar

Lara went around to the right (E) side where a fish pond is, and down to the north end of this area, still on solid ground. From here make a running jump to a sloped rock west. The wall lever is almost due west. Make a running jump toward it, and just wade through the swamp to a shelf with the lever. I found Lara wouldn't pull out here, but wade around the left corner, face north, and Lara will pull up out of the swamp. Use the lever. See the final pillar go up in the room with a ringing spike trap. Hurrah! Now, since Lara already has the green key, she is all set to go for the second ominous mask.

Of course Lara first needs to get out of the swamp. I thought it worked best to jump on that low pillar, and make a running jump due east beside the tree. Keep wading east with Lara's head under the water, and she will reach solid ground before running out of air. Get out of the swamp.

Nasty Ants

Now go to the NE opening and into the next large area. There are little anthill mounds scattered around here, and these are vicious biting ants, highly territorial, so be warned. Run and jump as fast as possible to reach the NW, and climb on a low tree trunk there. Lara isn't safe; the ants can easily reach her. Make a running jump to a sloped tree trunk NWit looks too steep, but Lara can stand on it. Turn around, do a running jump/grab south to a tall tree trunk and pull up on it. Turn to face the wall. There is an opening here, obscured by green foliage. Jump inside for Secret #4, small medipack and Uzi clips.

Do a standing jump with Ctrl to get out to the tree, and face east, look a little left, and on the far wall is where a lever is. Lara has to run over there, use the lever, and get out of this area without taking too much damage. Make an "S" run through the terrain to reach the lever in the NE (ants are still biting), use it to see two doors open. These look like the gates Lara saw at the upper level before dropping down to the swamp, but the camera is from the inside direction, facing outward to where Lara was.

There doesn't seem to be any special way to do this, just run out the way Lara came in, and pull up to the swamp area, where Lara is free of ants. Turn around and look back at a tall tree trunk. While Lara was running from ants you may have spotted that there is ammo on top this tree trunk, but while trying to figure out how to reach it Lara will probably be killed by ants. (It may not even be possible to get the ammo.)

A Way Out of the Swamp

At this point Lara could climb up in the SW corner of the swamp using that raised pillar to reach the upper level. She can just slide down into the big pit, as I think its central hole will drop her down into the room with four doorways. She could then go get the second mask, which she can now reach because all pillars are up to cross the spike trap. So a lot of what follows may be extraneous, but it is clear the author intended for players to get an important secret.

Drop into the center hole in the fish pond and swim through a crack down, right, right, left. Now Lara can just go straight, then left a square to pull out at a hole. There is a push block SW, but nothing Lara can do with it (it's actually a raising block for later). There are two push blocks to the north, and now the fun begins.

Endless Push Blocks

Push the left block in once. Turn left (W) and push this block all the way. There are dozens of push blocks ahead, but Lara can ignore most of them. Her goal is to reach the NW corner, making a clear pathway there.

After pushing the last block, turn left and push that block. Turn right and push a block. Now Lara is to the side of the first block she pushed W, and can now push it N. Turn left and push a block three times, finally opening things up. Take this last block and push it left (S). Lastly, Lara has made an alcove to the south that is two blocks wide. But the third block here (on the west) can be pushed south, so make an alcove that is three blocks wide.

That is enough. Now go back to the starting room with the water hole in it. In this room, Lara has never moved the NE block. Go to it now, and pull it back west into the channel, and pull it to the middle of that south alcove. Because of the width of the alcove, Lara can run around the block and back to the water hole room. Where the NE block used to be you can now see Uzis in a crack.

Pull out the block to the side of the Uzis. Push that block to the W to get it out of the way. Get into the space where that block used to be, and from there Lara can get Secret #5, Uzis, Uzi clips, large medipack.

More Endless Push Blocks

Now reverse the last two block moves. Take the W block and put it back where it started, next to the Uzis. Go to the block formerly known as NE block, and push it all the way back to the NE corner. This restores things. Now Lara just needs to create a path through the end blocks to the W. No matter how you do this, I think it requires moving three blocks.

Go down the W channel and keep going straight. When Lara reaches an end block, pull it back until it is in the middle of the south alcove. Then Lara can run around to the other side of the block and push it to the east all the way to the end. Repeat the process with the next block that is due W, dragging and pushing it all the way E. Go get the third and last block that is due W, and drag it back to the middle of the south alcove. Run around this block and run west through the now open passageway.

(Don't worry about having to get back through those blocks. Lara will have another way to return to the little room with the water hole so she is finished with this whole push-block puzzle.)

Open An Outdoor Gate

Get out W and make a U-turn left to go up a short ramp. At its top use a wall lever. Carefully watch the flyby to see a gate opening. Then go into a passageway east and use a floor lever at its end. A block goes down. This gives access to the room with a water hole, so Lara can easily return to the swamp. For now go back out and left into the room with four doorways.

Go left (E) up the stairs until Lara can make a left. Run outside to where the flyby showed a gate opening. Instead of entering the open gate, drop and hang in the hole as Lara did before. Let go and fall into the water below. The goal now is the second mask.

Get out of the water. Lara will be coming back to this room shortly, but from the other side. For now go out the W doorway as Lara did before, go through, make a left to get to an opening over the big starting area. Do a safety drop down.

Another Large Water Room

Go to the NE corner, around to the door that Lara opened near the beginning. Get inside the doorway, and find a hole in the floor with water below. Hang from the hole, and drop down onto the top of a pillar. From the pillar look N-NE to a far wall, and spot a lever. Lara wants to jump to the pillars north. Start by turning around, so Lara is facing south, and back flip to slide down the first pillar. Hang, then pull up and hesitate for a moment, back flip/twist to grab the edge of the next pillar. Pull up, slide down, and jump to the landing. Go to the right and use the lever, get a screenshot of a gate opening.

From the lever, Lara rolls and does a running jump/grab out to the low pillar south. Turn left (E) and jump to the next pillar. From this position you can see a large medipack in a NE alcove. Do a running jump to the sloped face of that near east pillar, bounce north and slide down to the alcove. Pick up large medipack. There doesn't seem to be anything else to do, and there don't seem to be any pickups in the water.

Underwater Levers to Open Gates

Dive in the water and swim to the SE. Here find a break in the wall underwater leading out to a passageway. Swim inside and left (E), then left around a close corner, and use the underwater lever. A gate opens to the side. Swim back to the room for air. Now swim down and into the same passageway, but make a right (W). Swim fast down to the corner and make a right, then quickly to the next corner for a second right (go E), and swim through a crawlspace. As soon as the channel opens up, and Lara sees a doorway ahead to the right, swim upward. Surface for air and climb out.

Open Doorway for Shortcut

The push blocks conceal a lever in the middle of the north wall. Move the blocks aside to reveal the lever (pull the left one back once, then pull the middle one back once, and push it left into the hole that was created). Use the lever. This opens the doorway which Lara was approaching. This doesn't have any real use now, but later, depending on play, it can serve as a convenient shortcut.

Dive back into the water and continue east, past the now open doorway. At the end of the east passageway swim into a crack ahead, inside make a right, swim back through other tight rocks, see a depression to the left, swim down into it, turn around and use an underwater lever to open another gate. Swim out of here, retrace the route back to the little room for air.

Last Swimming Leg

Dive into the water and again go east, but this time at the corner make a right (don't enter crack). Continue south, and once through an open gate make a left into a crawlspace in the middle of the wall. Immediately through the crawlspace go down and right into an open gate there. Swim into a little room to the back right (SW), into a depression to use another underwater lever. Now in the adjacent back square there is a shaft to go up. Near the top take the side passage, and in the next shaft go up for air.

Don't leave the water yet, but dive down in this shaft for flares. Then get out of the water.

Spike Ball Ramp

There is a large ramp leading up, but at Lara's feet is a trench. One might almost think that this is going to be a boulder trap. If you use binoculars you can see spike balls hanging up in the ceiling at the top. Go up the ramp to where there are high side alcoves. Here Lara turns around, hops back, and immediately dashes down the ramp to jump over that trench. Now the way is clear, go up the ramp.

Near the top is a side passage right, that leads back to the water room. Take it, as Lara can pick up a small medipack, then come back to the top of the ramp. Jump up the slope and go left. This is where a gate opened when Lara used a lever on the water room ledge. As soon as Lara enters there are Uzi clips in a left near corner. Avoid holes in the floor which have spikes. Near the second spike trap is a keyhole for a green key, which Lara picked up as her first task. Finally Lara uses the green key. (If she continued south she would turn right and be back at the big starting room.)

Open North Gate

Come out to a sloped stone area which is surrounded by water. There are spike balls at the top of ramps to Lara's left and right. From the room entrance, beneath Lara, down in a big trench, there is a lever to pull. So go down a ramp, drop down into the middle, and go to that lever. Use it to open a gate N, and both spike balls start to roll. Turn right, run up the slope to about where a green patch ends, turn left and jump straight up to pull up to the ramp above. The spike balls will miss.

Interlude for a Secret

If you want a secret go across to the SE corner. It helps to set this up precisely. Stand on the S side ramp, back flip south so that Lara catches and hangs on the outside of the central structure in the SE. Now shimmy all the way to the right (E) until Lara is blocked. Then shimmy exactly ten times to the left. A dark smudge on the rocks should be in front of Lara's face. Pull up and back flip to land at the tip of a triangular patch on the outside rocks.

After Lara lands turn to the right, back up, and hop up to the SE. Walk east and make a stand jump E. Turn right and crawl into a dark space, light a flare. For Secret #6, pick up flares, small medipack, Uzi clips, and Uzis. Crawl back outside.

Face forward N, jump into the water. Where Lara lands there is a crack to the right (E) at the bottom. By wriggling around inside Lara can get a small medipack, then get back outside. Continue to swim N, make a left and near the end of this channel at the bottom right there is an opening. Swim in here, left, upward, and pull out of the water. Use a lever on the right to open the gate. Jump out to the water room.

Swim straight across going N, to the right of the pillar and into the open doorway (shortcut becomes helpful) , turn right, make a right at the corner, follow the path you know past the open gate, into an opening left, down and right into an open gate, to the back left of the little room and up a shaft, maneuver through shafts to pull out in the spike ramp area. Run to the top, jump up a slope, go left to where Lara used the green key, out to return back where all this started.

This time go left a little ways to a gap in the wall on the north side. Climb up in the gap. Make a running jump/grab north. The lever opened a gate here, so climb through. Jump across the previous spike ball ramp, go forward. Lara is now back in a familiar room.

Crossing the Spike Trap

From the doorway go a few steps angling right to climb rocks, and from their top make a running jump to a pillar that Lara raised. Now do a running jump to the double raised pillars ahead. Spikes pop up harmlessly as Lara sails over them. Go forward and look left (W), where a high gate has opened. Do a running jump/grab and pull up there. Lara can continue onward to a room ahead, but not find anything to do there.

In fact, Lara should get back to the corridor, and look up east. Do a standing jump/grab, pull up there, and walk out to see a second mask. The invisible barriers for these ledges are now gone, so jump over and pick up a second *Ominous Dark Mask*.

Lara has almost achieved her objectives. She has acquired two masks. She has opened the way back to the swamp.

A New Route Back

Too bad Lara can't climb to the ledges above, so she must repeat a routine route. Drop into the water below. Get out, run through the W doorway, continue on, make a left, safety drop to the big starting area. Go to the SW pillar, climb it, make all the jumps N to the ladder on the tree, get up to the N branch, make the jumps to the platform, shimmy right along a wall crack and get into an opening. Run north and Lara is back in the room with four doorways.

(Lara could now go straight ahead, make a right to get by a floor lever, get down in the water hole in the tiny room, swim the short passages back to the swamp and emerge in a convenient spot. The author intended a new route.)

Go right (E) up the stairs toward the top, and into the left passage to where the flyby showed a gate opening. Make a left into that open gate. Pull up on top the wall ahead. Go to its right corner. From here you can spot flares in the far NE corner. Make a running jump to collapsible tiles ahead, run north to their end and make a curved running jump to the right to grab a collapsible tile. Lara can hang and shimmy around to the right. Pull up and make a running jump to a platform with goodies. (There seem to be extra collapsible tiles.) Pick up flares and Uzi clips.

Push Blocks, a Fire Passage Up

Drop to the ground, and go to the SE corner of the room. There is a trench. High up in the south there is an opening that Lara can't reach. So look right (W) where there are several push blocks. Drag one over and push it into the trench. Then drag over another one, push it over the block in the trench, to the other side, maneuver the block under the south opening so that Lara can climb up.

In the passageway avoid the fire emittersif Lara acts fast she can skip over the first two of them before they erupt. At the end turn around and pull up higher. Run onward to reach a small room. Maneuver a push block under a central hole in the ceiling and climb up. Run out the side opening and slide down. Pick up Uzi clips near where Lara lands, on the slopes above the pit. Lara can now make her way across the pit and get back to the swamp. But first...

A Last Secret for This Level

Do jumps into the pit, to end standing NE of the central hole in the pit. Then jump to the NW, and up N as before, but now there is a difference. Before Lara went to the NW in order to use a lever and raise a block. This time jump up right to the NE. Now use a short-takeoff jump to get up higher to the SE. While Lara was jumping you may have noticed that there is a crawlspace up higher in the SE, directly ahead of the way Lara is facing. Use another short-takeoff jump to get higher SE, then a standing jump to the crawlspace.

Light a flare and crawl inside. Pick up a small medipack, and stay on that square. There is a deep spike pit below, and the fall will take about half of Lara's health. Hang from the square where the medipack was, and drop down onto the one square that is free of spikes. Don't move, just turn to the right and grab up to a high crawlspace.

Get inside and go through, pulling up higher several times. In the upper passageway go to the end and drop down into a hole. Go W (crawl if necessary) and get onto a sloped block. Pull up and back flip if needed. Look around: Lara is back outside above that ceiling opening. Go to the west edge, and stand with Lara's left shoulder against the rock column. This is the only point which is high enough for Lara to drop back and shimmy. Shimmy left, pull up to the sound of Secret #7, large medipack, Uzi clips, and 2x pistol ammo.

Once More Across the Pit

Now drop down and slide at the N side. Lara is once again in front of the pit. Jump down, and cross the pit as before. On the other side Lara can go up in the NW corner, although it doesn't really matter. Jump over to the W pillar and turn N, go forward to the open gate on the high ledge ahead.

Above the Swamp

In the next area go N on the ledges as far as possible, then jump NE to a branch. Jump around to the other side of the tree. Now you can see that in the NE corner there is a (timed) wall lever.

If Lara wants a pickup she should first turn around and spot a ladder on the tree. Go down it one level. There is a gate over in the west and this is the object for the timed lever above. Turn east, go to the end of the branch, and make a running jump/grab to a ledge ahead. Get on its higher portion, and jump up to grab a monkeyswing. Take it to the end, drop, and pick up a small medipack.

Now get back. Go to the N portion of the ledge and stand at the highest spot, facing the wall. Jump and grab the monkeyswing, take it back to the ledge. Return to the tree branch. Climb the ladder on the tree, get high enough to shimmy around to the right, go out on the east branch and jump to rocks and run to the NE lever. Save your game.

Two Timed Runs

I wasn't too concerned about minor health loss. I had Lara pull the lever, using the Look Key to kill the shot of an opening gate. Roll, run angling left, then curve right to make a running jump to a branch jutting out. Run along the branch and make a diagonal left jump to the south branch. Run over it heading W and make a blind running jump. Lara should land on the rocks below in front of an open gate. After a stunned moment she runs through the open gate and it slams shut behind her.

Inside the right lever will open the gate again. The end lever sets up another timed run. Use the lever and run out angling to the left to where rocks jut out there. Make a jump to the cross branch ahead. Keep angling left to make a jump to the east branch, and run out to the tip of it, curving angled right to make a running jump into space. The aim is to land in the fish pond in front of the now open door. Try to land fairly close so that Lara can move forward, pull out of the water, and rush through the door before it closes.

Place Two Ominous Masks

The lever inside is to open the door again. Go forward, up the ramp and place each of the ominous masks. Gates open to the sides, in the corners of the room. From in front of the mask receptacle Lara can make a jump into an open gate, timing the burners to avoid being burned. When Lara lands inside quickly roll to get away from the doorway before the flames start again. Go forward into the next level.

Under the Jungle - level 2

Go east until Lara can slide down a very long ramp. She should come to a stop, to survey pillar jumps over lava ahead. Make a standing jump to the left pillar, slide and jump/grab to the next pillar, pull up, slide, jump/grab to a third pillar. Keeping hanging. If Lara pulls up on the left side a flame emitter seems to start up. So shimmy to the right sidethe ledge ahead is lower and easier to grab anyway. Wait for a flame emitter in front to erupt. When it looks like it is ready to die down pull up, slide, and jump to grab a ledge ahead. Pull up and quickly roll to get away from those flames.

A Route to a Key

If Lara wants to she can pull up to the east and look around, but there is only a keyhole and a closed trapdoor there, so she might as well stay where she is. Get on an adjacent brown-textured square and turn to look south, spot a wall crack over there. From about where she is standing Lara needs to do a running jump to grab the wall crack, hopefully timing the flame emitter to avoid getting burned.

Grab the crack south and shimmy right all the way, drop. Turn right (W) with Lara's face against an outcrop, jump up to grab, shimmy around a right corner, and over a square or so to where Lara can pull up. Turn around to stand against the edge, move left, jump up to grab, pull up. Pick up flares. Pull up higher, walk forward to the end. Drop down, go to the right (E), and go left. Drop down and follow through a passage, at the end look down and left to see where Lara needs to reach a pillar.

Stand about at the middle of the edge, turn most of the way left, and run forward with Ctrl pressed, so that Lara falls down onto that pillar. Face east, make a running jump with left curve, so Lara lands on an outcropping ahead, slides backwards, and grabs its outer edge. Shimmy right around the corner, pull up, back flip. If Lara turns around and looks east she has a good view of what is to come, and can see a keyhole. Still facing east, hop back and hang, drop down on top of a colorfully named Key to the Devil. Pick it up, pull back up, and make a standing jump against the wall over to the east.

Use the key in the keyhole, watch a flyby, a trapdoor opens behind Lara. Hang in that hole, drop down. Lara lands in a pool (there is a floor lever on this pool rim, and Lara wants to use it, but no such luck). Face N, dive down and into a crawlspace, down and to the left into a golden passage, then up into a wider chamber.

A Golden Secret

There is a hole above with four face tiles around it. Use an underwater ceiling lever on the left (E) face tile. Swim up through the hole, go straight upward for air. Let's not be too hasty to pull out here. Instead turn east, dive down to a face tile on that side, and find that it is an underwater door. Open it for Secret #8, Uzi clips, grenade ammo, large medipack. Now surface above, pull out.

What the Idol Knows (Nose)

Lara is in an enormous cavern. If she drops down forward a flyby will show that she is on the nose of a large golden idol, and a sweeping camera gives a brief glimpse of the cavern. It looks tempting to try to reach the rim of the pool and floor lever belowdistances can be deceptive in the cavernbut the fall will be fatal.

To one side there are obvious flares at about this height. Throughout this level a few pickups were either unreachable, inconvenient, or placed in a misleading direction to distract Lara from the true path. (As is the case with those flares.) I may not bother mentioning such pickups, but if Lara trips over anything I will try to point it out.

Lara wants to go NW over the left eye of the idol. Make sure that Lara is still at full health. Do a jump/twist forward (or turn around and do a back flip, or climb back up on the head and hop back in that direction), slide and grab the edge. Shimmy right against the wall, drop and roll, losing almost all of Lara's health. She should still have plenty of medipacks. Overhead in the wall, a bit to the right, is an opening, rather hard to see because of the lighting. Lara can get under the opening, but can't reach it jumping up. So from where Lara fell, climb into an alcove under the idol's head. Turn around and jump up into that wall opening.

Yellow Crystal

Drop down inside. Run to a gate and it opens as Lara approaches. At the pedestal pick up a Yellow Crystal. Now there is no way out of this chamber, as you can confirm for yourself if you make repeated futile jumps. Go to the opposite side from the entrance, and up to the pedestal, press Ctrl, and Lara will try to climb onto the pedestal, although she will likely fall off. I had to back off and do a standing jump to place Lara on the pedestal. From it, do a standing jump/grab up W. (Given the sly nature of these levels, it is possible that putting Lara on a pedestal is some sort of statement.)

Turn around, angle left, and do another standing jump/grab up to the beams. Take the east crawlspace and drop down outside. Go out east and drop onto the statue's shoulder.

Turn toward the wall ladder N. Jump over there, climb down all the way, and drop. Jump down to an outcropping NE. Try to slide and hang from it, then drop down and slide most of the way to the ground.

East by Northeast

Run to the east, but clearly not so far that Lara falls into lava. To the NE Lara should see a structure textured with narrow vertical stripes. At the ground there is a narrow gap between columns that Lara can jump through, and get over to the NE. Lara ends up by a small shallow pool in front of this structure, where there are barred gates and doorways.

Don't go to the structure, but continue east along an edge with a big drop off to a lava pool. Jump SE, to reach a perpendicular edge around the pool. Now Lara is standing near a small shallow lava pool. She can look S to a pillar that is near the lava pool. On top of this pillar is a secret which isn't too hard to get.

Pillar Secret

Go over and stand W of this pillar. Lara can't simply pull up W, and then back flip to get on top of the pillar. But position Lara as though she were going to do just that, with her facing W. Step left. Then turn somewhat right, so that Lara can back flip to the top of a small slope to her left. Hit the slope, bounce off with a curve to the right, hit the W slope, and back flip to reach the top of the pillar. Pick up Secret #9, grenade super ammo, grenade normal ammo, large medipack.

Blades Galore

From here go NE around the little lava pool and into a far corner. Jump up into a hole in the corner, then slide down. Go forward, do a running jump/grab across a gap. Pick up large medipack, and climb ladders to the top. Step forward and a number of blades start up.

Side flip over the first blades. For the next set of blades, crawl under the right one. Then stay on the right side. For the blade in front of the pit I used a short-takeoff jump and grabbed the other side of the pit.

Now get over on the left side and crawl under first one blade, then crawl under a blade that is traveling up and down. Move over to the right, to side flip over the last blade.

Long Route Back to Idol

Go through a tunnel, outside to the cavern. Go straight, jump up higher, make a running jump/grab to what looks like a crawlspace. Go through and stand up. Now look down right. Lara wants to drop to the lowest pillar that she is seeing. Rather than standing on the left side, which might seem natural, I had Lara start from the right, almost against the pillar. Then turn sharply left, step off, hit the slope below, and jump with a curve left to land on the lowest pillar.

Turn NE and make a running jump to a platform that is lower down. Turn E and make a running jump along the left edge, landing on the left. Now a standing jump/grab to the ladder SE. Climb it to near the top, then shimmy around to the left. You may have to back down slightly or Lara will hit her head. Do a back flip/twist to hit the slope opposite, slide back and hang. Shimmy left around two corners, and pull up where Lara can stand.

Jump up on the N side. Now Lara wants to get to the left (see the hanging chain), but it is easier to go around to the right (light a flare) and go left to get there. Set up a jump to the chain. Once on the chain turn slightly right, and swing over W to a place where it looks like Lara can stand.

Go left forward. There is a triangular patch Lara can jump to. Up higher NW is another triangular patch. It is a bit hard to see what is ahead west, but do a standing jump W so that Lara lands on flat ledges lower down. Now look up to the left (S) to see a ladder. Standing opposite the ladder, turn away from it, pull up higher, and back flip/twist to grab the ladder. Climb nearly to the top and back flip onto a ledge.

Floor Lever at Pool Rim

Now Lara can look SW to the face of the idol, and see the pool and floor lever. Go a few steps W and look left to spot a small medipack. Jump over to get it, and jump back using the highest point.

Carefully walk along the wall until Lara approaches the pool below, then go to the edge. Jump down to the close left hand of the idol. Then jump over toward the floor lever on the rim of the pool. Use the floor lever to see a gate open up. Lara has been there in the NE, the structure with narrow vertical stripe textures. (Where Lara is standing, she could easily see this structure over there in the NE if these levels used TREP, but now there is only a glimpse if you turn Lara to certain angles.)

Back to NE Structure

Go toward the front of the idol, turn right, jump to the side of the arm. Slide and grab, then drop to slide to the elbow. Jump toward the chest of the idol and slide down. Now run over to that structure in the NE, jumping through the narrow gap in the columns to get there. The gate opened on the left. Jump up inside. Run into the dark, then left and right.

Fire Pillar Run for Violet Crystal

As Lara runs toward the wall lever, notice that the latticework on her left is patchy. Stop and shoot these walkway barriers to clear out an opening near the lever. Lara's goal will be to reach the other side, but she will have to make a loop around to the left in order to get there. Once you know the correct pillar jumps to take there will be plenty of time to get across. Throw the timed lever and fires go out on top of the pillars to the side. Roll, run to the side, and make a standing jump down to the closest pillar. Turn left (SW) and take a running jump to that lower pillar. Now comes the loop to the left.

From the edge of the low pillar make a standing jump up to the higher pillar ahead (S), grabbing on the right side so that Lara can turn left and make a running jump/grab to that pillar E. Pull up. Turn to jump up N-NW, hopefully so that Lara can keep going to make a running jump/grab to the west. On the pillar, quickly turn to the right and pull up higher, then roll.

Go get the violet crystal from a pedestal. Watch a flyby, and take advantage of your good fortune to hop back across the room. Exit right out of the structure.

A Less Than Obvious Route

Now go back SW to the front of the idol, and continue S to a group of pillars. Go through them and find two pillars that are the most southern, go to the right (W) one. Stand right (W) of this pillar and face S. You may wish to light a flare, to help Lara up. Walk forward S on a triangular brown rock. Near its upper tip, jump up higher to a triangular spot. Now Lara can jump up, grab, and hang. Shimmy left, and Lara's hands will just start to go on a slope to the left.

Pull up anyway, and roll. Lara is able to get onto a spot where she can stand. So do a running jump to a pillar ahead N. Turn left (NW), and make a running jump/grab to the near face of the pillar there. Lara pulls up in a corner, facing west. Jump up to a block to the W.

Now turn left (S-SE) and see an alcove in a corner of the rocks over there. Facing that alcove, make a running jump/twist. Lara manages to land backwards on a slope, and grabs its edge. Shimmy left, around the corner to that alcove. But don't stop there, continue to shimmy onward to the outer corner.

Pull up, and look SE to slopes. Make a running jump there, when Lara hits and slides, grab the edge and shimmy left to the end. Pull up, make a standing jump SE to where Lara is under a monkeyswing. Get on the inner higher portion in order to jump up to grab a monkeyswing. Take it east to its end, and drop.

Lara can hit her head when jumping here, with fatal results. So move outward to the edge of the ledge, stand about in its middle, and stand jump forward to the next ledge. Now look down E. Lara could back up on her ledge, and make a standing jump down there. However, if you have nerve, just slide down to the east ledge, trusting that Lara will find footing. Walk right a bit, set up a running jump to the stone bridge east.

Green Crystal

On the bridge turn right (S) and hop up in front of a ladder. Get into a crawlspace at its top, go in and right, stand. There are two chains ahead. Lara can either dodge them, or just shimmy past them. Enter the far room and pick up a Green Crystal. (If Lara tries to stand on the pedestal, instead of taking the crystal, try picking up the crystal at a diagonal angle.)

To get out Lara doesn't need to worry about those chains; she can just jump in the water. Swim to the left of the entrance (NE) where there is a high spot for Lara to stand and pull back up to the pillar. Get out of the crawlspace, and back down the ladder to the stone bridge.

South Cave

Getting down from the stone bridge may seem problematic, but it is a blessing in disguise. Lara is just where she wants to be. On the bridge turn to face the ladder, and walk to a little outcropping left of the ladder. Walk to a point where Lara can turn around to face W, and drop back to hang (over lava). Shimmy left to where it is safe to drop, and Lara falls down into a south cave.

Go inside and hop up to the left, get over rocks and to the back, go right to find a wall lever. Use it and see a trapdoor on a pillar going up. You may have noticed this trapdoor when Lara started on the route for the green crystal. Now get out to the mouth of the cave.

Facing outwards there is a slope angling left (N-NW), and Lara can make a running jump to it, and grab as if to catch an edge. Lara will miss the edge, but will fall below without taking damage. Run to the north and find receptacles for your crystals, two on either side. Since Lara is clearing missing a crystal (blue), leave the receptacles alone for now.

Continue going N until Lara is at the NW corner of this entire area. Jump NW down to brown rocks. Get up into the corner, turn around to face S, and jump to grab a ladder. Climb to the top, and Lara is back at the level of the idol.

Pillars Again

Repeat everything that you did to start the route for the green crystal. That is, go SW to the front of the idol, then S to a group of pillars, go through them to stand by the same right south pillar where Lara started before. Face south, get on a triangular patch near its upper tip, jump up higher to a triangular patch.

Jump up to hang, shimmy left as far as Lara will go, pull up to roll. Jump to a pillar north. Directly in front to the north is that raised trapdoor, so hop up on it.

A New Route

Turn to the right (E) and make a standing jump to a pillar. Run and grab the chain ahead. Swing ahead to a platform in front of a ladder (the right-hand portion of the platform is where Lara can stand). Lara may overshoot, so this may take a couple of tries.

Climb the ladder to the top, find a pole. Go up the pole, see a stone ledge, back flip to it. There are ledges north and south, and Lara wants the south ledge. (It it easy to jump across. On the north ledge, Lara can go all the way N then curve around to the right to find a large medipack. Then come back and jump over to the south.) Go south to find a little tunnel on the right. Go in west, ignore a break in the barrier to the right, continue SW to a hole and drop into it....it's a water hole. Roll.

Keep swimming west through various openings, and when Lara comes to a large room swim west to the end of it, pick up a Blue Crystal, which gives Lara a complete set.

Escape With Blue Crystal

Turn around. Swim out against the right wall, even when it appears that Lara is swimming into a corner. She swims over a hole and current will catch her and whisk her through passageways. There appear to be pickups along the way, but knowing this author's penchant for gags they are probably meaningless. Let the current carry Lara to the end, pull out.

Go to the north end and throw a wall lever. A trapdoor goes up outside, to assist Lara in getting down. Go through a nearby break in the barrier to outside, and hop to that trapdoor. It looks as though Lara should make a running jump/grab straight out east, but I couldn't make that. Lara hangs from the north edge of the trapdoor, and drops down to a pillar.

There are a pair of pillars here, drop down into the space between them, onto a crossbar. Turn S and do a running jump/grab to that pillar. Turn left, and jump SE to a lower pillar. Make a running jump S and slide down to the ground.

Place the Four Crystals

Run due east to where lava is. Then go left (N), to what looks like a dirt slide. Make a standing jump to it, slide down it to the platform below in the lava field. Nearby on the right Lara can place two crystals. Then hop over to the opposite side (E) to place the next two crystals. Maybe you expect something to happen.

Atlanteans Attack

A whole horde of Atlanteans start running around, or swooping down on wings, or pelting Lara with projectiles. Rather exciting, but Lara mostly stayed up on top of the blocks where she had placed the crystals, so all the galloping Atlanteans couldn't get at her. Then with a lot of persistent shooting with pistols the numbers dwindle steadily.

At one point the music abruptly stopped, which appeared to be when the last of the horde bit the dust. But it isn't over yet. Go south, and you will see a last one hiding behind a column at the far end. Approach cautiously, a centaur comes out of hiding, shoot him down, and he drops a blue Magic Crystal. Pick it up to trigger a flyby showing a door opening.

Way Out

Exit from here as Lara did before in the far NW corner. Make a jump to a brown textured corner, turn around and leap to a S ladder. Climb up. Go NE in a gap between the columns to a structure where Lara was before. Now the right doorway is open, go inside to the end, and climb out on any forward side. Next pull up east.

Just inside the room entrance, pull up on a right pillar. With Lara next to the wall, do a run jump/grab across. Turn left (N) and stand jump higher. Walk on a pole to the other side. Take pillars higher. There is a last jump west to a dark side of the room. Stop after the jump, don't go forward, but use the ledge to get as close as possible to a ceiling hole. Stand jump to grab, pull up, run to the end. It's hard to see where the opening is, but pull up straight ahead. Drop down on the other side, go through and make a right, then come out in the big cavern.

High Level Jumps

Lara is at the upper levels now. Run jump W across a gap, and go left. Stand jump SW, then go look SEthe left (corner) portion of those slopes is standable. Make a running jump SE. Stand on a higher inner portion and jump up to a monkeyswing. Take it S, to the right and left. Drop on the left sideif Lara drops to the right and slides down lower, jump back up. Now there are swing poles to the S. (If there is a medipack down SW, then Lara didn't bother to pick this up earlier, when she was on her way to the Blue Crystal.)

Swing Poles

Lara needs to run along the diagonal and jump to the first swing pole. If she grabs near the wall, use the Right Arrow Key to move her sideways on the pole to its center. The Jump Key isn't used, instead wait until Lara is at the bottom of a swing to release the Ctrl Key (timing needs to be precise), and Lara will sail forward. Grab the next pole. Repeat the procedure, sail to the ledge ahead, Lara will bounce and start to fall off backwards, so grab the edge, and pull up.

Do a running jump/grab E to a long pole, and sail off it due E. Get down to a lower part of this ledge. Lara wants to jump N, but will hit her head on a slanting rock. So set up Lara almost facing NW, aim just to the left of the north ledge, and do a running jump with a hard curve right. This is a little tricky, but it's mostly a matter of finding the right setup.

For those who don't wish to tackle one of the harder secretsLara will need to replay the entire upper cavernskip down to the section that says Resume Play. Some will want to play this because it is more challenging and interesting.

Difficult Secret

From where Lara lands turn NW. To the right those rocks end in a slope, and to get the secret Lara needs to reach that slope. A stand jump doesn't work. Go up into the SE corner here, turn around to face the bottom of that slope NW, and make a running jump with a hard curve right so that Lara manages to touch the edge of that slope. Immediately jump forward to another slope ahead, slide, and jump to a standable spot N.

Lara is now more or less underneath the first swing pole. Turn E-SE and make a running jump to a standable slope there. Now place Lara's right shoulder against the east wall, facing N. Make a running jump to a pillar N, grabbing and pulling up on the right side. Ahead, angled to the right of N, is another pillar. Make a standing jump to it.

This pillar rises to a peak on the left. From that peak Lara wants to make a running jump to the left portion of the rocks to the N (don't jump straight N). Lara can make the jump without having to grab. Land, drop back and shimmy to the right, around the corner, and go to the next square with a pole where Lara can pull up. Now do a balancing act on the pole to get across.

On the other side pick up Secret #10, 2x flares, small medipack, and large medipack. Now Lara has to get back across the pole, even carrying the extra weight. Once safely across, look over to the right (N) where there is a crawlspace on the other side. Lara should step down to the lower level on the N. From here, if she can squeeze far enough forward, she can simply do a standing jump to grab the N crawlspace. I did that, but a short-takeoff jump/grab also works.

Pull into the N crawlspace, and get through, make a left, and Lara comes out in the big cavern as she did before. Go up to the heading High Level Jumps and repeat all of the play until Lara uses the long swing pole.

Resume Play

From where Lara lands go up east, careful as there is a large fall ahead. Stand jump down to a ledge E. Stand jump to a chain right (S), swing over S and left where there is a dark crawlspace. Crawl through and drop down, with Lara losing almost a third of her health.

There are flares to the S, ignore them. That SW ladder goes up to a crawlspace where Lara got a green crystal. Make a running jump W. Be careful, Lara is standing on a triangular surface, so next use a short-takeoff jump to continue W. Walk through, look down to see that Lara is above all those pillars that are south of the golden idol.

Last Tricky Jump

Lara makes a running jump to the ledge SW, and grabs at the last moment. Now face S, but angle right, aim for a corner of rock that is right of the S alcove. Make a running jump over. Jump up into the alcove ahead. Go inside, turn right, take the ladder up, get off on the left. Climb up higher, turn around and jump/grab higher, pull up. Turn around, jump to an overhead ladder, climb near the top, back flip to a path behind.

Make a series of four running jump/grabs upward to the east. Go to the top and pull out on the left side. Go up N, Lara can simply pull higher. Then jump up, come to what looks like a brick wall. Shoot it with pistols.

The Subway

This is unexpected, as Lara comes out on a subway platform. The tracks are deadly. Jump over tracks to the N, then over the next set of tracks, and go left (W). At the end climb up on a little metal pillar right of the tracks and use binoculars (with light function) to look SW into a dark tunnel.

See where a hole in the wall is. Light a flare if necessary, and jump to that opening. Go inside and in the middle pick up Key to the Room of Computers. Turn left (E), pull up into a ceiling hole above Lara.

Jump out to the subway platform, turn left, and once more jump over tracks to the N. Lara should be in front of a stairway on the W side, so go forward N and up stairs. Open a door left, and inside the room jump on a table to pick up Power Cable. There are flares on top a safe, but Lara seems to need to jump onto the safe to get them.

A Final Secret

Go out, down stairs, and left (E). A little ways ahead there is a ramp up, but there are only metal bars blocking the way at its top. Continue along the subway platform E, and at the end go in left. Use your key on the right. Turn around and go inside. For Secret #11, there is a large medipack to the right, and in holes in the floor farther in there is another large medipack and a grenade gun.

Go back out to the subway platform and jump over tracks S. On the left there is a ramp down, but it only leads to some turnstiles. Jump over tracks S again, and go right (W) to the end. Go left down a ramp here, and drop off a step at the end. Turn around and see that Lara stepped down over a crawlspace.

Subway Power Station

Crawl through, drop at the end, light a flare. Looking ahead, there is a high crawlspace up right (E). This looks promising, but doesn't lead anywhere, so bypass it. Lara can turn the corner left, go to the end and get a small medipack from a second hole in the floor. Get out of the hole and come back. Just before the corner light a flare and find a place to pull up to the right (S). Go to the end and make a safety drop down, losing health.

Go down an octagonal tunnel to a power room. The floor is only deadly where there are live sparks. Jump on a console directly ahead and use Ctrl to affix power cables to two electric terminals. There is a power surge, and a change in scenery. In the new room press a wall button next to a door.

Home Sweet Home

The door opens, go up stairs, drop down. Now if you go E there is Lara's basement aquarium. (Pull over a push block, get into a ceiling hole, and Lara can take a swim in the aquarium, but there aren't any hidden keys this time.) From where Lara dropped down go the other direction (W) and up basement stairs.

Press a button on the wall to open a door, and be treated to an extended flyby. Thank goodness, Lara is in time for a nice hot cup of tea. It's good to be back in civilization. Lara's trophy room already displays her new acquisition. A wonderful end to a remarkable adventure.
