General notes: 

You can select the sunglasses from the in-game options menu and increase the gamma levels (the “Svetlost” option in this level), if you find the level too dark. The default level is 3. 

Notes on hard/easy versions:

To play the “easy” version of the level – copy the TOMBPC.DAT and Sakul house.TR2 from the DATAeasyversion folder of the download to the DATA folder. This will replace the “hard” version of those files, so be sure to back them up if you want to try both versions.

The savegames between “hard” and “easy” versions are not compatible, as there are some noticeable differences in the level design, hence also the separate walkthroughs.

RESEARCH BASE – Hard (default)

Lara slides down a ventilation shaft into the base, 2 compsognathus (1, 2) will charge her way, but your entire inventory at this point consists of a small medipack, so you have little choice but evade them.  As you approach the big hall with the soldier (3), note the aquarium on your left and a velociraptor (4) caged on your right. When you enter the big hall with the soldier, the raptor will break out of his prison.

The soldier and the raptor will fight each other (the soldier doesn’t seem to bother with the compsognathus) until one dies. Return to the raptor’s cage and pick up the Desert Eagle (1) by the door. If the soldier died, you can take the Shotgun (2) and 2 x MP5 ammo (3, 4) he left behind. If the soldier wins, as he does most of the times – you have to choose if you want to kill him for those items (this is your only opportunity in the level to get the shotgun).

In the big hall – there are a total of 6 x shotgun ammo (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10) below 3 of the 4 tall, grey arches and 1 set of shotgun ammo (11) on the box to the right of the door. Climb on top of the tall boxes where you entered this room, and push a button on the high ledge to open the exit door, releasing 3 more compsognathus (5, 6, 7) at the same time.

Before you leave the area – go to the box between the arches on the right-hand side, face the wall, jump up and grab to get hold of the foliage. Shimmy sideways and climb up to a hidden alcove. Jump on the flat top surface of the grey arch – from there do a running jump to the other grey arch – mind that the left side of the arch’s surface is sloped, so align Lara with the right side before attempting the jump.

Once on the other arch – proceed down the hidden tunnel in the wall for secret #1. There are 3 compsognathus (8, 9, 10) in here, a small medipack (12), a large medipack (13), 2 x MP5 ammo (14, 15) and a floating green crystal that restores a small medipack’s worth of Lara’s health upon touch. There’s also a switch that will open the door to the room you see below through the gratings, and release 2 more compsognathus (11, 12). Return to the main hall.

As you go down the ramp beyond the door – a velociraptor (13) will appear. The raptors don’t scale non-even places well, so you can use that to your advantage and retreat to the ramp when he charges.

If you activated the switch in secret #1, the door on your right will be open, so, while minding the timed flame, enter the room to trigger Secret #2. Search the room to find a large medipack (16), an MP5 gun (17), flares (18), and at some point 3 more compsognathus (14, 15, 16) will show up, though they can’t follow you outside the room.

After you leave this room, note the switch on your right. It will open the door to the aquarium - on your left from the switch’s position - and release a velociraptor (17). Doing this isn’t relevant for finishing the game, but you might want to do so for the 2 x shotgun ammo (19, 20) on your right as you enter the room, and desert eagle ammo (21), 2 x shotgun ammo (22, 23) on the far side by the aquarium you’ll get.

The switch by the asphalt hallway deactivates the alarm, and, as far as I can tell, this is not relevant for progress. As you approach the body of the soldier a velociraptor (18) will charge towards Lara. Once you’ve dealt with him, go to the dead soldier and pick up a small medipack (24), 2 x shotgun ammo (25, 26), MP5 (27) (if you got the gun from the secret, you’ll get MP5 ammo here instead). There’s another small medipack (28) not far away from the body too.

Climb the ladder around the corner, 2 compsognathus (19, 20) will charge at you. Either ignore them the best you can or kill them - then take the small medipack (29) from the alcove and 3 x shotgun ammo (30, 31, 32) by the pool. Dive in the pool, swim into the tunnel below. Activate the switch to open the door and swim in the next room – surface for air, if necessary. Explore the adjacent room to find shotgun ammo (33) at one end of the hall and 2 x shotgun ammo (34, 35) on the other end.  There’s a crawlspace sized opening in the corner – swim there and up to find yourself in the aquarium opposite the raptor’s cage. Use the underwater lever to open the door at the end of the asphalt hallway. Swim back all the way the same way you came, and enter the door.

As you go up the ramp another velociraptor (21) will charge at you – again, you can use the ramps to your advantage. Before entering the next room, explore near its entrance to find 1 set of shotgun ammo (36). As you enter, a velociraptor (22) will jump at you from your left. There’s more shotgun ammo (37) in the corner of the room, and you can get a view of the T-Rex from the console to see where all the rumbling comes from.

Climb up and another velociraptor (23) will charge at you – he will not pursue you if you stand on top of the console, so you can use that to your advantage. Press a nearby button, and it will open the door to the armoury.

As you enter, you’ll hear the chimes for Secret #3.  Walk through the spikes to remain unharmed, and use the action and up buttons to climb on the ledge. Pick up the Pistols (38), 2 x MP5 ammo (39, 40), a small medipack (41), shotgun ammo (42) and jump back over the spikes to leave the armoury.

Go up the ramp opposite the armoury. In the next room there are a total of 4 velociraptors (24, 25, 26, 27) and 1 soldier (28). The strategy to tackle this is up to you – you can shoot them one at a time from the relative safety of the ramp, you can fight them in the open space of the hall, or sprint across the room toward the soldier – there will be a rock outcropping on your right that gives you higher ground - and shoot from the safety of it. Unless you proactively try to rescue the soldier, he will not survive the onslaught of raptors and leave behind a large medipack (43). Before continuing, return to the rock cove where one of the raptors still is – he can’t escape from it, so it might not be worth your time killing him – and pick up 2 x MP5 ammo (44, 45) by the body of the soldier.

In the rock cove with the outcropping and ventilation shaft above – look for a mossy wall segment – you can walk through the greenery to find Secret #4 – a large medipack (46), a small medipack (47) and 2x Shotgun ammo (48, 49).

Climb into the ventilation shafts from the rock outcropping. Run as far as the shafts go, jump to get hold of the ladder. Climb down as far as you can go – but know that there ground beneath the ladder is sloped – effectively throwing you inside the pit with a T-Rex (29). While you’re on the ground, he has massive advantages over you, so I would not recommend fighting him from here – instead not far from where you slid in (to your left if you’re still facing the ladder) is a lone, flat piece of rock you can climb up onto. From on top of it – you can safely take out the T-Rex (use your better firearms, it can take a LONG time to kill it with pistols – to contrast: 800+ hits with pistols; about 200 hits with MP5). Once he’s dead, drop in the pit and find a key (50) by the body of one of the soldiers (the one right below the alarm).

Alternatively – as an expert’s challenge – with good timing and good reflexes you can try and snatch the key while the T-Rex still roams around.

When you have the key, climb back on the higher rock – from there jump to the ledge with the ladder, jumping on the ledge’s flatter surfaces till you reach an opening in the wall with a keyhole. Use the key you just got and drop into the pool. Swim to the bottom of it to pick up MP5 ammo (51), then climb out of the pool, and up the ledges by the wall torch. Pick up MP5 ammo (52) and jump up the slope to reach an outdoors area.

2 velociraptors (30, 31) are fighting with 2 soldiers (32, 33) down below. You can let them fight out among each other and then deal with the victors, or get involved in the action, though I suggest to not drop down on the ground just yet - jump to branch ahead of you, and then to the one on your right. Look around to spot a small rock ledge – jump there to get secret #5shotgun ammo (53) and MP5 ammo (54). Drop down, if the soldiers survived the fight with the raptors – you have to decide if you want to kill them to get 2x MP5 ammo (55, 56) one from each soldier.

Do a running jump and grab towards the opening in the wall across the lake, slide down into the cave to meet another T-Rex (34). Sprint straight toward the metallic structure, as you’ll be at a disadvantage in the open. There’s no point in conserving any ammo now, so give him all you’ve got from the safety of the hallway. Once he’s dead, pick up the key (57) by the soldier’s body in the middle of the “nest”.

As with the previous encounter – with good timing and good reflexes, it’s possible to snatch the key right under the T-Rex’s nose without needing to confront him, but it’s up to you to try.

Use the key next to the door, and enter the dark hallway beyond to end the level.

RESEARCH BASE – Easy

Lara slides down a ventilation shaft into the base – as opposed to the “hard” version, she starts with a normal inventory – Pistols and medipacks included [Bug alert: sometimes, when I started the game anew after I had already saved a game, Lara also had a Shotgun in the inventory when starting game. Not a game breaker and not even that bad, but pretty odd].

Approach the big hall with the two soldiers (1, 2) – a velociraptor (3) will appear. You can choose to come to the soldiers’ aid, or seek higher ground and fight whoever is victorious. If the soldiers survive, you have the option to kill them for a total of 4 x MP5 ammo (1, 2, 3, 4) among them. Search below the close right and far left arches to find a Shotgun (5) and shotgun ammo (6).

Climb on top of the tall boxes where you entered this room, and push a button on the high ledge to open the exit door.

Use the underwater lever to open the door at the end of the asphalt hallway. Swim back all the way the same way you came, and enter the door.

Go up the ramp and enter the room on the left. You can get a view of the T-Rex from the console to see where all the rumbling comes from, then move on to the room left with the ladder.

Climb up, enter the room straight ahead and press a nearby button to open the door to the armoury. As you enter, you’ll hear the chimes for Secret #3.  Pick up 2 x MP5 ammo (14, 15) and a small medipack (16) then leave the armoury.

Go up the ramp opposite the armoury. There’s a rock cove with a velociraptor (10) on your left when entering this spacious room - he can’t escape from it, so it might not be worth your time killing him – pick up 2 x MP5 ammo (16, 17) by the body of the soldier.

Continue to the end of big room – to your right will be another rock cove with an outcropping Lara can stand on and a velociraptor (11). Once you’ve dealt with him – look for a mossy wall segment – you can walk through the greenery to find Secret #4 – a large medipack (18), a small medipack (19) and 2x Shotgun ammo (20, 21).

Climb into the ventilation shafts from the rock outcropping. Run as far as the shafts go, jump to get hold of the ladder. Climb down as far as you can go and you will land on a ledge of a large T-Rex (12) cave. Use the advantage of higher grounds to take him out from here (use your better firearms, it can take a LONG time to kill it with pistols – to contrast: 800+ hits with pistols; about 200 hits with MP5). Once he’s dead, drop in the pit and find a key (22) by the body of one of the soldiers (the one right below the alarm).

Alternatively – if this version has been too tame for you so far – with good timing and good reflexes you can try and snatch the key while the T-Rex still roams around.

When you have the key, climb back on the higher rock – from there jump to the ledge with the ladder, continue until you reach an opening in the wall with a keyhole. Use the key you just got and drop into the pool. Swim to the bottom of it to pick up MP5 ammo (23), then climb out of the pool, and up the ledges by the wall torch. Pick up MP5 ammo (24) and jump up the slope to reach an outdoors area.

A velociraptor (13) is fighting with 2 soldiers (14, 15) down below, while another velociraptor (16) is on the branch right ahead.  Deal with the raptor, then jump on the branch – and from that branch to the other, smaller one. Look around to spot a small rock ledge – jump there to get secret #5shotgun ammo (25) and MP5 ammo (26). Drop down, if the soldiers survived the fight with the raptors – you have to decide if you want to kill them to get 2x MP5 ammo (27, 28) one from each soldier.

Do a running jump and grab towards the opening in the wall across the lake, slide down into the cave to meet another T-Rex (17).
