TEMPLE OF THE MASK

There are 5 secrets to be found.

 

Outside Area

 

Run N and shoot two tigers near the entrance of the temple. In the W side of the sloped block to your left is a switch to open the trapdoor in the S side of this area where you began to play. Go there killing an eagle on your way and jump into the water; pick up the flares at the bottom, follow the UW passage (beware with the croc) and pull the switch at the end to open the temple gates. Go back there and inside the temple. We need two items here so let's go through the W opening after pick up the small medipack from the vase.

 

Moveable block

 

Pass the swinging blades and the spike pit and avoid the rolling boulder when going up the ramp too. In the room with the deep pit and the pool at its bottom, go right and jump to the sloped E ledge so you slide backwards, grab the edge, hoist up, jump back and slide backwards the next sloped ledge, grab the edge at the end, drop/grab the crack below and go inside the crawlspace. At the end slide, turn left and follow to find a moveable block; push it to the very end (notice the closed gate to your left, for later) and retrace your steps; it's time to take a swim.

 

Jump into the water, go out E and pull two switches to open doors (1 & 2) in the middle ledges of the pit. There are flares in the N side. Now go through the opening in W wall and climb the ladder, at middle way go right and find the moveable block you moved moments ago; push it twice to open the nearby door (for later). Now turn around and go W and left through the open door (1).

 

First Shiva Key

 

In the room with the deadly spiked pool, jump to grab the monkeyswing above and first swing to the high switch in E wall. Pull it to change the position of some grates in the ceiling and take a long running jump S-SW to the ramp under the burning torch in S wall; slide, jump and grab the climbable wall, go up, slide again and jump to the start. Now turn right (N) and take a running jump with grab to reach the niche with the switch in NW corner; pull it to change the position of the trapdoors, jump S to the sloped ledge, slide and jump to grab the side of the climbable entrance pillar and so return to the start.

 

Jump to grab the monkeyswing above and swing again to the high switch in E wall but this time don't touch it; continue swinging under the grates and situate Lara over the right side of the ramp you jumped before facing W, drop and immediately jump with a hard right curve to land onto the ledge with the fence; there is a third switch here, pull it and jump to the W slope to return to the start. Now jump again to use the switch in NW corner, return to the start and monkeyswing again to the high switch in E wall, use it again and return to the start like you did before. Jump again N to use the switch in NW corner and now all three grates are up so, back to the start and monkeyswing again this time to the end of the path to get the first Shiva Key. Climb the W wall and do the jumps you need to return to the main pool room.

 

Second Shiva Key

 

Now jump into the water and use the UW lever in E wall to raise the level of the water in the pit; dive through the NW opening where the moveable block is and through the nearby open door and up. Pull the switch there to open the small door near the entrance of the temple (for much later). Dive back to the main room and up to take a breath (you'll need it!). Now dive through the S door in middle level (2). Dive always to your right and pull the UW lever at the end. Back and find the E open door to pull another UW lever; back again and this time dive always to your left to find the fresh air you need. Save your game.

 

In the next room there are three switches to pull to open the exit door. I think the best option is don't slide and immediately jump when hoist up to the switch in W wall, then run S and jump to grab the jumpswitch near the entrance and finally use the switch in E wall. Quickly sprint to the exit. Pick up the large medipack and the second Shiva Key. When exiting this room, stop in front of the open door and light a flare, turn left and look up to discover a hard-to-see and dark crawlspace. Inside is SECRET #1: a large medipack.

 

Room with three moveables

 

Follow the path and back to the main room, use again the UW lever to lower the level of the water. Use the keys in the keyholes in S wall to open the door near the top of this room. Use again the UW lever to raise the level of the water and go there. Under the W vase there are flares. Take a look at the ceiling and find three gray symbols: water, earth and fire. There are three moveables here too. Place the fish statue under the water symbol to open the NW door, the gray pedestal under the earth symbol to open the SE door and the egyptian statue under the fire symbol to open the NE door.

 

Fog Room

 

Jump into the water and follow the path to a room with white fog. Take a running jump W to the first pillar (no grab); another running jump NW to the next one, jump to the one near the W wall and another jump to the SE pillar and shoot the bats. From here you can take a running jump SE to the last sloped pillar and jump to a flat ledge behind the central one (not the way the author intended?), but if you look carefully SE, you can spot a ladder in one of the sloped pillars. So jump to the pillar near the E wall and shoot the bats; turn right and see three sloped pillars. Jump to the first with a left curve so you slide backwards, jump back to the second sliding backwards too and climb down the ladder. Shoot the crocs and explore the bottom of the pit for SECRET #2: the shotgun and a small medipack. There's an opening in the NE corner in case of you want to return to the start of this area; if not, climb the same ladder and jump back twice to land onto the flat ledge behind th e pillar. Then a running jump to the ledge near the W wall, over the breakable tiles (you can duck in the safe ones to avoid the blades) and at the end kill the native, pick up the small medipack and pull the switch to raise some blocks somewhere. Return to the main room.

 

Rope Room

 

Up the stairs, kill the tiger and shoot the bats. Go through the opening in SE corner; at the top of the stairs use the rope to reach the N side of the room and pull the switch at the end of the corridor avoiding the blades. Back again to the main room, again up the stairs and the door at the top is now open. Save your game before pulling the switch (timed) and run out to grab the rope again (perhaps you want to kill another tiger first, 'cause he's able to climb the rising block!). Swing to the E raised block and run and jump to the jumpswitch in the wall to raise more blocks somewhere. If you want you can also repeat the timed run to get the shotgun ammo under the vase in the high SW ledge. Go back to the main room with three moveables.

 

Five fires puzzle. First Fire Star

 

In the NE door you'll find a small room with five different gray texture tiles on the floor. The buttons over the blocks you've raised make some fires appear or disappear. Your goal here is light all five fires over the gray tiles in the floor. For this you must press only the N, S and SW ones. Once all five fires are on, the W door in the main room opens.

 

Kill both Shivas and pick up the first Fire Star from the pedestal in NW corner and a small medipack in NE corner. Also in this corner there is a jumpswitch to open the exit doors. Go back to the flooded room and exit S to the temple entrance. At the other end of the stairs (E side) there is the door you opened a long time ago when doing the tasks with the first moveable block. Advance, watch the flyby and approach to the river.

 

The River

 

Don't jump into the river, there are currents here which don't let Lara go up to the surface to take a breath. Instead, turn right (there are shotgun shells near) and jump to the N ledge in the other side of the river. Approach to the W side and take a running jump with a right curve to land in the opening in N wall near the cascade. Press the button here, shoot the bats and take another running jump with a left curve to the ledge where you came from (or simply climb the block and do a standing jump). Now run/jump all the way to the S side where the open door is.

 

The Old Key

 

Push the block to clear the way and continue to find another one around the corner; push it once and make your way to place the blocks in the alcoves with the brown floor tiles: a door opens near the place where the second block was. Climb the ladder there and negotiate the swinging blades. Pick up the Old Key and go back to the main room. Now run/jump all the way to the N side where the keyhole for this key is.

 

Third Secret

 

If you're interested in the next secret, from the ledge in the N side of the river approach to the W side and take a running jump with a right curve to land in the opening in N wall near the cascade like you did before. Press the button again to close the door, take another running jump with a left curve to the ledge where you came from and go S to the closed door. Jump to the opening to its left and go back to the swinging blades passage, the ladder, the moveable blocks and to the other side of the closed door to find a ladder and SECRET #3: flares.

 

Swords Room. The rolling boulder

 

In this room there are swords hanging from the ceiling which will drop when Lara approaches; you always can walk slowly and near the walls or sprint through the room to trigger them and play more quietly. Shoot a couple of natives near the entrance, now go up the W ramp but not to the very end, only enough to grab the monkeyswing above, swing N and pull the jumpswitch near the bottom of the ramp. This raises the trapdoor under the jumpswitch in S wall so go there and use it. This one raises a block near the entrance where the natives appeared so, go there and save your game (timed button). Press the button and quickly run W and up the ramp to trigger the boulder; hopefully, if you were fast, the trapdoor should be closed and Lara get some extra seconds after hear the dangerous music to sprint down the ramp and avoid the rolling stone.

 

Swords Room. Deactivating the Spikes

 

Once the danger is gone, go again up the ramp and climb the high ledge. From the N side of this ledge take a standing jump to grab the right side edge of the platform with the fires and shimmy right and around the corner to its centre; time the central fire, hoist up and run to get the shotgun shells. Now hang again and continue shimmying to the right and around the corner more or less to the middle of the E edge of the platform; at this point Lara can hoist up and turn around without being toasted, and she can take a single jump with a right curve to grab the edge of the E ledge, run S and press the button to deactivate the spikes in the N side of this room. So go there and down the ramp to the mirror room.

 

The Mirror Room. Second Fire Star

 

Look in the mirror what tiles are safe. There are two buttons to push in SW and NE corners to open a trapdoor.  Also you can spot a small medipack near the central pillar and a crawlspace in W wall near the entrance door where the trapdoor opened. Use a last button there to raise a block in the middle of the river. Go back there and shoot a couple of natives outside. Jump to the raised block and to the area with the pedestals. Pick up the second Fire Star, the large medipack, shoot a bat and make your way to return to the temple entrance. Place the stars and drop through the hole losing some health to a very dark maze.

 

The Dark Maze

 

Go N to the wall and E ignoring the right passage. Once at the junction you have two options:

 

1.- If you want the next secret: continue E to the wall, right (S) ignoring the left hand passage and left to get some flares. From this position return to the first junction you find and go right (N) ignoring the right hand passage; straight to the wall and right (E), then left, right, left and left to a crawlspace where you'll find SECRET #4: a large medipack when shooting the left vase. Go out of the crawlspace and return to the first junction. To do this go straight E to the wall, right (S) to the next wall, right, left, right, left to the wall and right around two corners to the next junction.

 

2.- If you don't want the secret: go N a bit and take the first to your left (W) and run straight to the W wall; turn right and run N all the way to the very end (before you can pick up shotgun shells in a passage to your right, under a small crawlspace), right again and the first to the right before the gray stones floor; right again and you'll find a crawlspace here. Duck and follow the only possible way to find the exit.

 

Moving Spiked Ceiling

 

Pull the timed switch behind the vines and run like fool before the door closes. Don't loose time when entering into the next room: press the “look” key to restore the camera and quickly climb the ladder before the spiked ceiling reaches the high opening (I had to use a medipack at the top of the ladder). Watch the flyby. Enter and the door closes behind you.

 

Pool Room

 

There are flares in the pool. Climb the ladder in SW corner and time the spikes to jump/run/jump to the safe ledge in NW corner. Take a running jump to the E ledge and time again the spikes so you can jump and grab the edge of the next sloped ledge without slide. Save when hanging, and when you hear the sound of the spikes popping up, hoist up, slide and jump twice to the safe ledge with the button; press it to open a door below.

 

Scales Puzzle. The Magic Mask

 

Go through the open door near the ladder and pick up the waterskins. At the end of the corridor, behind the scales puzzle you can see that you must put 4 litres in the vase. I hope you know how to combine the waterskins to do this in the nearby pool. When done, the door in the corridor opens; press the button there so the mask is safe to pick up. Return to the room with the pool and go now to the room with the mask. The second step triggers the blades so, situate Lara in the right side very near to the second step facing W-NW, run over the step and quickly turn left and run for you life to the S side of the room. Once the blades were triggered you can now go up the stairs and pick up the Magic Mask.

 

Final Ride with the Kayak

 

Go back to the pool room and fight with three natives, one of them will drop the Silver Key. Use it in the keyhole to open the W door, climb the ladder and mount the kayak (Ctrl). Drive until you reach the room where you got the second star and directly E against the water current to a small ledge over the water in NE corner. Park the kayak left or right of this ledge and dismount (there is no current here) using “Pag. Down + left or right arrow”. Climb the ledge and press the button to open the door for the last secret of this level.

 

Mount the kayak again and drive S and E. Save your game before the waterfall, 'cause there's a nasty vortex whirpool on the way very difficult to surpass. I found no trick to do this, only row and row from the left or right sides trying not touch the bow of the kayak with the walls. After this there's another tricky task to get the last secret; try to direct the kayak to the W and row like fool to get inside the open door in W wall and get SECRET #5: shotgun shells. (Why now? Only to shoot the croc?). Mount the kayak again and follow the path to finish this laborious level.
