SECRETS OF PALACE MIDAS (Demo)

Begin in an enclosed area.  The monkey won't bother you.  Before doing anything else, turn right from where you're standing and locate the sneakily hidden wall switch behind a bush.   A screen shot shows you a nearby closed gate.  Run to the far end of the room and climb up onto the ledge to your right.  Hop up to the higher ledge and enter the opening in the wall to your right.  Follow the passage to look out into a larger area dominated by deadly molten gold. 

 

Hop down diagonally to your left onto a stone slab, and facing generally in the same direction take a running jump to land on the corner of the ledge next to the right foot of the seated statue.  Your position here is precarious, so carefully turn to your right until you can side flip safely onto the rock ledge to your left.  Step forward and pull down the wall switch for a cut scene showing that gate now opening.  You're not finished here yet, however.  Locate the skeleton down in the molten gold and take a standing jump with grab to land safely beyond the skeleton behind the statue.  Pick up the large medipack and uzi ammo for SECRET #1, then run along the wall to the other side.  Jump across the golden stream to the rock ledge, then make your way around in a clockwise direction until you can jump down onto a safe tile.  Stand jump into the opening and return to the start area.  Just for fun, before leaving save your game and jump onto the palm of the partially submerged hand.  Watch what happens.

 

Safety drop to the floor and exit through the open gateway.  Follow the passage to a seeming dead end and save your game here if you want the next secret.  Run through the green walkthrough wall at the end and start sliding.  When you drop to the second slope, slide a short distance, jump off and grab the ledge ahead.  Pull up for uzi ammo and a small medipack for SECRET #2.  Back out of the crawlspace, release and drop down into some water.   Locate and pull the nearby lever to open the exit gate (which closes again when you enter the pool).  Pull out quickly and dispose of the helpless crocodile if you so desire.

 

When you step out into the hallway, Sophia makes a brief appearance, taking a couple of shots at you before she disappears in a wall.  Go left (facing away from the pool) and come to a larger area with a golden river to your left and an inaccessible ledge wall to your right.  As you enter, a nearby platform drops, but as it turns out you won't need it.  Walk a bit further and your attention is drawn to a breaktile.  Run across a corner to shatter it, look down and see that it's filled with spikes.  There's something of importance down there, however.   Stand at the highest edge (facing the golden river), hop back with a grab, shimmy to the RIGHT corner and release.  Turn around carefully and pick up the first IRON BAR.  Pull out of the spike pit and note other nearby breaktiles.  You can run over those as well if you wish.  You'll hear the secret chimes for SECRET #3 when you run over one of them.  Stand on the raised tile (not the one with the pillar), hop back and grab the edge, and this time shimmy to the LEFT corner before dropping down.  Pick up your prize (shotgun ammo, I believe) and pull back out of the spike pit.

 

Go to the far wall of this area and turn right to find a wall switch in an alcove.  It's a timed switch, so save your game to be on the safe side.  When you pull down the switch a platform is raised to your right, and a lioness also heads in your direction.  It may be helpful for you to dispose of this enemy first, so you can later reset the timed platform (if necessary, as I had plenty of time to do both in one go) and make the timed run without being distracted.  After pulling the switch (and killing the lioness), turn to your right and run away from the switch toward the golden area.  Jump across to a tile and step forward to jump up and grab the raised platform.  Pull up, jump to grab the ceiling and follow the marked area as you monkey swing along the ceiling and release onto the higher ledge over the timed wall switch.  Follow the ledge all the way around the corner to the far end and pick up the second IRON BAR.  Don't drop down here, but go back to the other end of the ledge and locate the pushblock.  Pull it back onto the marked tile, and the water turns to gold (and opens a door elsewhere).

 

Now drop down and run toward the other end of the hallway, noting along the way that the torches down here are now lit.  Along the way, look left for an alcove with two small trees in it.  Run through the phantom wall between them for SECRET #4.  Pick up the large medipack and return to the main hallway.  When you reach the far wall with the mural design on it, a lioness charges out from your left.  If you proceed in that direction to the far end, you'll find a small room with a pool, a closed door and three wall receptacles.  The gate to your right on this end opens when you stand close to it, so enter and follow to a door that opens upon your approach.  Continue forward and enter an area with an open campfire.  When you step down to the ground the door closes behind you.  Enter the tent for grenades, harpoons and the UZIS along with extra ammo.   As you go up the stairs your attention is drawn to the far right corner. 

 

Climb up the green strip on the wall at the corner and back flip near the top for SECRET #5.  Run across the roof and locate the shotgun ammo and high caliber magnum clips near the skeleton.  Jump back to the green strip and climb down to the ground.  Go toward the temple doors, which open at your approach.  Stand at the threshold and note the four gray tiles and one gray slab in the room ahead.  The door will probably close behind you during your inspection.  You need to jump to those five areas only, otherwise the gate at the far end of the room will not open.  When you do it correctly, enter and pick up the third and final IRON BAR.  Immediately draw weapons and kill the lioness that charges toward you.

 

Leave this room, go toward the golden atlantean statue and pull up onto its ledge with the tent to your left.  Pick up the grenades for SECRET #6 and quickly hop back as the statue falls on its side.  You'll probably get poisoned anyway, so use a medipack if necessary.  Now you need to convert those three iron bars to gold.  Leave this area and return to the main hallway.  Run to the far room with the golden pool on one side and the high ledge on the other.  Notice what look like large bullet holes in the wall.  There are three of them, so insert your iron bars one at a time and a GOLD BAR will spit out at your feet.  The tile in front of the middle "bullet hole" in the golden river is safe.   The timed trap door lifts for no apparent reason when you insert the iron bar in the adjacent "bullet hole." 

 

With all three gold bars in your inventory, run to the other end of the hallway and turn left to the room with the three receptacles.  Insert the gold bars to open the second of two doors in the adjacent wall.  Carefully jump there and note two sets of teeth doors blocking your path.  Take a running jump past each set to a safe tile, then walk ahead into a new area as the door closes behind you.

 

You can walk along the slopes in this room, so do so and pull down the wall switch that you'll find in each of the four corners.  When you pull the fourth one to open the exit door, Sophia makes another appearance, and this time she doesn't go away.   You can try to engage her in battle if you wish, but the better part of valor is to beat a hasty retreat to the open gate and slide down into the darkness to end the level.
