[Note] There was no *.dat file so I renamed security.tr4 to tut1.tr4 and started the playable tutorial level as a new game. This level also crashed on me many times. Save before you light a flare. When the flare goes out, the game crashes. Save before you start shooting any guards. If a guard fires a grenade, the game crashes when the grenade explodes. Usually restarting tomb4.exe would work. A few times I had to reboot the computer. [End note]

Note from moderator: In other words, the security for this level is atrocious.


You start on a dark roof with a sentry gun shooting at you. Turn west and run into an open tunnel to avoid the sentry gun. Kill a guard at the end of the tunnel. You can look south through a grill to see a deep shaft. Turn north and get into the crawl space. Follow the crawl space to the west. At the first junction, go south to pick up a large medipack, five Uzi ammo, and Uzis. Continue west and at the end; drop in the corridors of a building. Kill a guard that approaches from the west corridor.

Go south to shoot a guard. Turn west to see two friends waiting for you to open a door. Do not shoot them. A door opens in the north wall. Enter and see a receptacle and a door opens in the south wall. Enter the south room for a large medipack. Exit and continue down the south corridor. Enter a strange shaped door and see two more friends. [Note] The door shape reminds me of an old science fiction movie called Forbidden Planet. The doors were the shape of the Krell race. [End note] Hop onto the console in the south-east corner and pull up to the ledge above it. Get into a crawl space. The way to the south is blocked by a closed door so follow the air duct to the north. Pick up flares in a small branch and continue to the west. Stand up and approach a trap door that opens for you. Drop into a room and pick up a large medipack. Go west into the corridor and see that it is blocked by a cave-in. Go into a room to the north and pick up a key in the south-east corner.

Get back into the air duct and return to your friends. The key does not work there so continue west and north. A door opens up into an empty room. Go south and your friends kill two guards for you. Continue south to kill another guard in an elevator. If the guard shoots bullets, it is OK. If the guard shoots a grenade, the game crashed when the grenade exploded. Pick up a small medipack from the elevator corner. Around the corner of the corridor is the cave-in wall again. Use the key to open the door in the east wall. Enter and follow the tunnel to a room with a block in the middle. Get on the block and pull up to the north into an air duct. Go to the end and drop into a room. Pick up keys from a block in the north-east. Pick up Uzi ammo and a shotgun from the floor. I shot the red light on the wall panel, just in case it does something. Exit and go back to the locked door but your friends have gone. Open the door and enter the room to pick the Hand of Orion (looks like a gem).

Exit and go back to where you entered this corridor and this time go west and see a deep shaft with a friend on a lower ledge. You now have a choice of two alternate routes to continue the level.

The short route:
Jump down to the ledge but do not shoot him. Take one step from the edge, hop back and use grab and you should land on the ledge below him. Pick up the small medipack if you want and then enter the west crawl space. Follow the crawl space and jump the gap over the shaft. Run up the ramp and kill the guard. If he fires a grenade, the game crashes. Pick up eleven Uzi ammo, six blue shotgun shells, red shotgun shells, Uzi's, grenade flash ammo and three Hands of Orion. Pull the switch on the wall and exit back to the shaft. Jump south to grab a ladder and climb to the bottom of the shaft.

Near the end, release and grab, and quickly shimmy to the right to pull up into a corridor. Go east and follow the corridor. Ignore the button on the wall that opens a door. Continue and enter a room to use a Hand of Orion in the west wall. A door opens in the east wall. Enter the room and pull up onto a ledge to kill the guard close up. You can pick up flares from another ledge. Go south and pull up onto a ledge and pull up onto a south-east ledge. Press the button on the wall. Get down and exit the room. Skip ahead to the continued route.

The long route:
Jump south to grab a ladder and climb to the bottom of the shaft. Near the end, release and grab, and quickly shimmy to the right to pull up into a corridor. Go east and follow the corridor. Press the button on the wall that opens a door for later. Continue and enter a room to use a Hand of Orion in the west wall. A door opens in the east wall. Enter the room and pull up onto a ledge to kill the guard close up. You can pick up flares from another ledge. Go south and pull up onto a ledge and pull up onto a south-east ledge. Press the button on the wall. Get down and exit the room.

Now go back to the door that you opened in the corridor. Go up a lot of stairs and it is difficult because of the dark and you cannot light a flare. At the top of the stairs, a door opens and you are back with your friends. Go west and south and find that two black doors are opened. Enter the room and kill a guard on a ledge over a door and pick up the Guardian Key from his location. Go back through the strange shaped door and onto the ledge to get back into the air duct. This time go north to find a friend and a receptacle. Use the Guardian Key and the door opens. Follow the air duct and crawl space and drop into a room filled with boxes.

Go to the north west corner and drop behind a box for a key. Go to the east wall and see a friend. Use the key and the door opens. Enter another room with boxes. Go to the north-east corner and pull a switch. Get into the crawl space and follow it to a room with a deadly floor. Enter the east door and follow the tunnel, past a friend, and drop into a hole. (Hard way:) Jump to the west wall and grab a crevice. Shimmy over a crawl space, release, grab, and pull up into the crawl space. You can try to follow the crawl space in pitch black, and arrive a ledge below the ledge where you started. (Easy way:) Or just hop back from the top ledge, use grab, and land on the ledge below. Monkey swing over to the other side and keep using the monkey swing to go up the deadly tunnel. At the end, you will drop to a safe tile.

Go south and enter a side tunnel to kill a guard. Go south and west to find a switch. Pull the switch and go back to an open door. Enter the open door and turn west to pick up a Pharos Knot. A bridge has been created over the deadly floor. Cross the bridge and go back into the crawl space. Go back through the room with boxes and the other crawl space. Get down from the ledge and go to the room with the receptacle. Use the Pharos knot and the last of the four doors open. Go into the room and kill a guard. Get into the crawl space in the west wall. Follow the crawl space to the end to drop onto the ledge below your friend in the deep shaft.

Enter the west crawl space. Follow the crawl space and jump the gap over the shaft. Run up the ramp and kill the guard. If he fires a grenade, the game crashes. Pick up eleven Uzi ammo, six blue shotgun shells, red shotgun shells, Uzi's, grenade flash ammo and three Hands of Orion. Pull the switch on the wall and exit back to the shaft. Jump south to grab a ladder and climb to the bottom of the shaft.

Near the end, release and grab, and quickly shimmy to the right to pull up into a corridor. Go east and follow the corridor to the room where you use the Hand of Orion in the west wall. Skip ahead to the continued route.

Continued route:
Enter the tunnel in the north-east corner and use another Hand of Orion to open the door.

Enter the corridor and go east and the door opens. Let your friend kill the guard for you. Enter the room and the door closes. Wait and walk around the room and the south door will eventually open. Enter another corridor and go south. Near the entrance, look up for a ceiling trap door and pull it down. Notice that the way is blocked by a black door. Enter the first room and pick up a large medipack from a ledge above the door and two Uzi ammo from the floor. In the next room is a friend. Go to the north-west corner and pull down a jump switch. Exit and go to the next door and enter the room. Pick up grenade flash ammo and get up to the ledge over the door to pick up a key.

Exit and go around the corner of the corridor to see the lock for the key. Save the game at this point for a very tight timed run. Use the key to open a door. Enter and jump, not slide, down a slope. Sprint through three doors that open for you. Jump a block and pull a lever at a back wall. Roll, jump the block, and sprint back through the doors. Jump the slope and exit before the corridor door closes. If the doors close and you are inside, you catch fire.

Go back to the trap door and notice that the black door is now open. Pull up into the air duct and follow the crawl spaces. At the end, drop in a hole and start several slides down into another room. Follow the crawl space to a deadly pit. Go to one side and drop onto a flat surface. Jump with grab to drop into a tunnel in the north wall. Jump south to a ledge and run down the tunnel to kill a guard. Pull a switch and go back to the north tunnel. Enter the open door and follow the tunnel. Kill a guard and pull up into the south opening. You have to kill six guards before any guard fires a grenade and the game crashes. The Uzi animation is a little strange. It is possible because the guards appear one or two at a time if you do not move very much and trigger them all at once.

Go west to enter a tunnel and kill a guard. A trap door drops above you. Pull up to the south into an air duct. When you can stand up, pull a wall switch. You can go to the end for six Uzi ammo and then return to the corridor. Follow the corridor to the far end to kill a guard and see the open door. Enter the room and go to the south-east corner to pick up a key. Go back to the fancy tall door and use the key to open the door. Step outside and get a very long flyby of the building, the roof, and the shaft that ends back at you. As you run down the stairs, the area turns a dark red color and many guards appear. Light a flare and run to the north-west corner and you will find a tunnel in the west wall. Ignore any guards and run down the tunnel and the level ends with a final crash to the desktop.
