I didn't like BC-Northrend zones and just used Dungeon Finder to level out of them quickly, but once I got to Cata content (80-85) I loved doing the quests for Mount Hyjal, which is all Night Elf pretty much. The most immersive starting zones are the Worgen and Pandaren ones, but after level ~15 they have absolutely nothing as far as lore, which is kind of disappointing.
IMO Night Elf has some of the best lore and questlines from what I've read. But before you know it, you'll be into general gameplay, where most of the plots are not race or class specific.

Worgen are very immersive up to lvl15 or so. Just check out this map and see where you want to plot out your adventure. I do have an alliance toon at 120 as well: hunters. If you're completely open to any choices, I would suggest Night Elf. Having said that, you'll soon discover that since they sped up leveling, you'll level out of zones before you actually get done with the plotlines.
