The Red needle of the compass is used for directions.
The Gold Bars are just a quest, look how many you can find (there are 8 Gold and 2 Lead Bars you can later change into Gold bars). They are not crucial to finishing the game.
Go through the gate into the large area, in the far right hand corner you can grab up to a ledge on some column along the back wall and grab the FLARES, drop down and head into the S passage, through some foliage. The next large area has some Apes running around, so watch out.
For SECRET #1, stand on the higher floor ledge and stand jump/grab up to the NE corner of the central ledges and get a SMALL MEDI and SHOTGUN AMMO.
Dangerous Dungeons.
Drop down and look for a hole in the ground between the bushes N. Save, drop down and you’ll end up in water, but you will lose the Pistols. They ended up behind the fence S, run into the opening N, jump a bit over to the right to grab a ridge and shimmy to the right over a spike trap to where you cannot go further. Pull up to do a backflip/roll and grab the opposite side ridge, pull up, backflip to the ridge behind and then jump with a hard left curve to end up on a flat rock.
Remember, no pistols, so you’ll have to move fast and watch your health here, hop over the pit and run into the tunnel when you see the best chance, take the second right. Use the lever on the left wall opening the gate and run in and to the right to grab your PISTOLS. Shoot the Apes and look for the SHOTGUN under the skeleton, there’s also a SMALL MEDI, SHOTGUN AMMO and 2X UZI CLIPS. Get out, go right around corners and shoot another Ape or two (may be you shot them already if they happened to come for you earlier). Grab some FLARES in the last cave.
A First Gold Bar.
Run out, straight into the open gate E, these catacombs have a lot of Rats and are all interconnected, just keep moving and avoid the holes in the ground. Right around corners and find UZI CLIPS. Go E and come to a pool. No real need to shoot the Rats, but that’s up to you. You could use the pool as a hideout when you decide to shoot them.
Swim down E and along the ceiling, keep left and on some gold on the floor is GOLD BAR #1. Now return to the Rat pool, get out and go through W, take a right and about straight through the opening N to come to a place with pools and columns. On a rock W are UZI CLIPS. There’s a gate you can open leading out to the Main tunnel, no need to go there now.
Two Lead Bars.
In the large central pool are teeth doors and a Swinging Blade covering two tunnels, passing the Blade will give you what looked like a Gold bar, but it turned into a LEAD BAR #1 when you came close. Getting through the Teeth doors will also provide you with a LEAD BAR #2.
A Second Gold Bar.
Get out of the pool, go through the opening N and hop on the rock to get the SHOTGUN AMMO. In this section there will be Crocs roaming around. Go N and right around the corner behind a pillar is a dark pit with a SMALL MEDI in it. Head N again and come to a small pool, hop in, follow the tunnel along the right hand wall and come to a wider part where you’ll find GOLD BAR #2 on a floor with gold. Swim S and surface in the place with the columns.
Get out of the pool E, up and through the opening E.
Traps Galore.
Shoot the Apes, grab UZI CLIPS SE and a SMALL MEDI NE. Head through N and jump over a trench to the left of a row of three boulders. Jump up the slope onto the rock ledge ahead, walk forward a bit and hop down right where you see the first skeleton and a fourth boulder up ahead. The center golden tiles are safe, but if you run toward the skeleton against the E wall you'll trigger all four boulders. Hop back onto a safe spot, wait for the boulders to pass by and walk slowly through the spikes along the E side. Spot the MEDIPACK at the skeleton, face S before grabbing it and immediately back flip to avoid another boulder.
For a Secret: Go up into the passage where that fifth boulder came from, around a corner you can see a fence. Stand facing the fence with your back against the wall, stand jump to grab an opening, pull up through the foliage to the tunnel above, follow into a hall with a big head. Down from where you come in is a SMALL MEDI. To the W of the head is SECRET #2, the MAGNUM. Some MAGNUM AMMO in the SW corner. Make your way back to the boulder trap tunnel.
The TWO PALACE KEYS. (I think there are different ways to get through the next part, but this is how I did it.)
Proceed up N, picking up UZI CLIPS to the right, go up along that side while more boulders drop along the left side. Just before entering a Courtyard (W) you’ll find SHOTGUN AMMO next to the spike pit. On the bottom of the Dolphin pool are some wet FLARES and a SMALL MEDI. Go to the SE corner and open the gate with the lever and go in, shoot the 3 Lions from standing on a ledge next to a column. On a block inside is a Key protected by flames. We’ll have to get that in a Timed run later.
Go through an opening W, get UZI CLIPS from the lower floor and a SMALL MEDI from the NW corner.
Go up the ramp W, find GOLD BAR #3 on the pile of gold near the opening NW. SW are MAGNUM CLIPS. Go through the opening E, pass through the teeth doors and get the SHOTGUN AMMO from the next room. Save at the lever E, pull and roll, through the teeth doors and straight down the ramp you came up from, through the opening E and run for the block, quickly get the first PALACE KEY and quickly jump off before the flames return, get onto a block near a column to shoot the Lions. Back to the ramp to the upper floor and out N to the balcony.
Head right to the E end, jump diagonally over the balustrades onto the balcony SE, shoot the Lion and get SHOTGUN AMMO around the corner. Go back a bit and jump through an opening in the balustrade into the pool. Get out and to the back of Courtyard (W). Some Apes around here, to the W we’ll need two keys and in the NW corner behind the second pillar is SHOTGUN AMMO. To the SW are UZI CLIPS behind the first pillar.
Head back to the pool and through an opening NE you’ll come to a deep gorge, first step on the green ledge in the middle, jump/grab up to a thin ledge E, follow the balcony to a MEDIPACK. Get back down and walk to the edge of the gorge. Drop down using the green ledges and head over to the gold W, pick up UZI CLIPS and GOLD BAR #4. Go back and climb back up where you came down. Walk along the edge of the gorge to the W and look across to the N, shoot the 3 Mountain Lions, if you get the chance and jump over and go left around the rock to jump and grab back over the gorge onto a different path. Two Lions there, so jump on the higher ledge to the right and get rid of them.
Get up to the closed gate SW and hop to the opening NW, pass through the swinging Blades and Teeth doors, those are nasty as there’s a spike pit behind it. Stand a hop back and start the run when the doors just touch the first moment when closing, then jump. Go get the second PALACE KEY on the raised slab.
Back out through the Teeth Doors, stand at the edge of the spike pit, stand jump with Ctrl just before they start to open up. Back through the swinging Blades, hop down to the right to the gate and use the lever to open it, this lever also opened another gate…
For a Secret: Drop down left to the lower ground where the Lions were before, go up the sloped ridge NE, hop onto the rock ledge NE and climb up right onto the wall. Run jump (no Ctrl) into the open gate you see S and a bit right and grab SECRET #3, the UZIS there. Drop out, get back on the ledges SW and through the opening with the lever and the Teeth doors.
Take a left on the balcony, jump left to the next part after shooting the Lion and grab the UZI CLIPS from the skeleton. Get down to the ground floor (jump in the pool) and go use the PALACE KEYS (W).
The Palace.
Run to the right, in a deeper part is a SMALL MEDI, stay right to go down and grab as a boulder rolls by on the left side. Run forward N and up the ramp as another boulder behind you is triggered. Nothing else to be gotten here, so when the boulders stop rolling, jump over them and go back S to the other end of the passage.
Hop SW around the corner onto the UZI CLIPS and immediately backflip back two times, as there are three boulders coming at you from two different directions. When the coast is clear, hop back over, grab the clips and proceed up the slope. Continue onto the roof of the Palace, go to the very top for a fixed camera, UZI CLIPS and a MEDIPACK. Turn left, go to the W end of the roof, turn around and hop back to slide and grab the edge and safety drop down, shoot the three Apes waiting down below.
There are UZI CLIPS on a nearby block with a pergola. Watch out for the all the Spike pits, they’re all over the place.
For a Gold Bar.
Enter the NE opening in the Courtyard, to the right is a SMALL MEDI, then head up the ramp, where you'll meet some Bats. Locate the opening in the N wall, you can reach it with a curved run jump/grab from the higher ramp. Ominous music plays, grab the crack left, shimmy around two corners to where you can pull up on a ledge and take out some more Bats. Go up the higher ledge and get over to the lever on the E wall, opening the gate N. More Bats, go down inside and in the far left corner is GOLD BAR #5. When you pick it up the gate closes.
Save, use the lever in the N alcove and you’ll drop. Turn left a bit and slide off forward, grab the next slope, hang against the right hand wall. Drop, and immediately after sliding and landing on a flat surface, side flip left into an opening to avoid the incoming Boulder. Go around the corner to a Spike pit, stand right, turn left a bit and stand jump with Ctrl into the alcove left above the Spikes (or slide and jump over the Spikes for an easier jump into the alcove). Use the lever to open the exit gate. Jump there and go out to the courtyard.
There are two ways to enter the next part of the Palace, each with its distinct challenges.
1. The opening NW, where an Ape may be waiting (the nearby Dolphin pool has a MEDIPACK). Inside is a trench with Flames, jump over right to the ledge with the lever (N) and save. Pull it down, don’t roll, but turn right and run with a curve right to jump onto the sloped side of the trench, keep jumping towards the TIMED door at the other end, slide backwards as far as you can, back flip and then curve the last jump (Ctrl at the end) to get inside….
2. The opening SW (the Dolphin pool there has UZI CLIPS), a room with pillars with flames on top. On the ground floor is a TIMED lever, pull, take a rolling back flip and run jump onto the left side of the block SE, curving right jump to the sloped one and then jump to the next pair to get through the TIMED DOOR….
Spike and Fire Room, more Gold Bars.
In the middle of the room is SHOTGUN AMMO on the floor (which will re-appear if you run out). Run to the far wall, draw a powerful weapon and within a second or two a BIG GOLDEN APE will come for you, quickly deal with him. Get past the swinging blades and spikes and into the opening NW or SW, go right and jump/grab over the pit, walk to the hand and in the lower part of the floor Lara takes a Lead Bar and changes that into GOLD BAR #6, don’t even think about getting the one from the Hand (you might try after saving the game :). As the message indicates, you can repeat this by stepping back a bit and then walk up to the hand again. Lara will also change the second Lead bar into GOLD BAR #7.
Get out of the room, through the pit and straight to a double set of Teeth doors with a break tile in between. Run through the first and jump with a bit of a curve (to avoid that Flame) into the room. To the left and right are GOLD BARS #8 and #9, in the back is GOLD BAR #10.
Stand at the bottom of the slope, start the run jump when the doors are about to start closing and jump over the now revealed Spike trap. Go left into the wide corridor, pass the Swinging Blade and get ready to rumble, all kinds of creatures appear. Take your time to wipe them out, or just run to the end of the corridor where the level ends…
