CLASSIC TRILOGY COMPETITION - THE IRIS BOREALIS

LEVEL 1: ARTIC RIG

 

The Crowbar

Drive the boat straight ahead and turn right at the first junction, get out of the boat ("End" + "Right arrow" keys) to land onto the icy ledge to your right. Save your game, turn a bit left and jump into the water, swim through the opening in the corner and quickly (the waters are too cold) surface and get out of the water on the nearby wooden ledge; jump onto the snowy mound, take a running jump to grab the next ledge, pull up and continue counterclockwise to take another running jump to the ledge in the corner and get the Crowbar. Roll, take a curved standing jump to the opening in the left side, slide and mount the boat again.

 

First Secret

Drive in the direction to the mound with the red flag and to get the first secret drive left a bit, stop, jump into the water and look for an UW opening to your left, once out of the water light a flare and jump to grab the ladder; at the top get the SECRET #1: the Uzis and uzi clips. Jump into the water and mount the boat again.

 

Over the Hills

Now drive counterclockwise until you find a single wooden tile in the water, park the boat, dismount and from here jump into the water to discover an UW opening in the right side, dive through, surface, pick up 3 X flares and go through the dark passage. From the snowy ledge overlooking the lake, turn right and jump into the water if you want to get the small medipack but quickly swim back to the ledge. Jump back over the slope to the opening and from here take a running jump with a left curve to land onto the wall to your left; continue running and jumping in a counterclockwise direction, take a running jump to grab the ladder (hard movement), pull up and turn right, continue clockwise until you reach the ledge with the second red flag, from here take a running jump over the snowy slope and turn left to locate the dark opening.

 

To the Ship

Enter and continue over the breakable tile to a ledge overlooking the lake, jump to grab the monkeyswing and at the end drop onto a snowy rock. Take a running jump straight ahead to the next flatter ledge and a standing jump to the ledge with the shotgun shells; turn left and jump over the slope to the ledge with the red flag, take a running jump to the top of the dark pillar and another jump to the safe ledge ahead. Shoot the worker and the dog, pick up the uzi clips in the left side and go to the opposite side in the direction of the ship, press the button in the niche and go through the crawlspace. Go right if you want shotgun shells and back to the junction crouch and use the sprint key to avoid the drill; climb up the ladder and continue through the crawlspace in front of you avoiding the moving lasers, go left, press the button, jump over the pit, time the teeth doors and quickly run and jump to the very end to avoid the rolling barrels.

 

Second Secret

To get the next secret don't slide down the ramp, but go back to the corridor where the barrels were, continue to open the crowbar door, jump over the hole, roll and jump back to avoid another barrel and go to the end of the corridor to get the SECRET #2: the Shotgun. Quickly jump back to avoid the fire emitter.

 

The Arctic Base Key

Go back to the corridor behind the teeth doors and this time slide down the ramp, pull the switch, turn right and quickly climb up the ladder in the corner to avoid the moving wall. In this hub room go to the opening with the button if you want and press it to get access to the toilets, shoot the worker and pick up his small medipack. Anyway, back to the hub room go to the area with the big drill, cross to the other side avoiding the green lasers and the traps, pull the switch in the niche and go back to the hub room where the last opening is now clear. Go right and shoot the worker, go to the opening where he came from, climb up the ladder and shoot the aggressive cook, pick up the uzi clips in the corner and pull the wheel-switch in the opposite corner to stop the fire emitter so you can pick up the Arctic Base Key on the table; back down to the corridor go through the opposite opening and for an extra pickup drop/grab the edge, shimmy right and pull up onto the window sill to get shotgun shells, climb down the ladder, swim to the opposite side where the dead dog is (if you raised the trapdoor before) and go left to the place where you parked the boat.

 

To the Chopper

Mount the boat and drive in the direction of the ship, through the arched opening and dismount near the closed door to use the key. Jump into the water and look for the open door just under that platform; once out of the water, pick up the uzi clips and in the next room pull the switch to open double gates somewhere and swim back to the boat. Drive outside but not too far, dismount onto the black small squared ledge to your left and go up jumping onto the flatter parts of the snowy hill until you eventually reach the top of the arched black bridge, pick up the shotgun shells and jump to the snowy platform with the fences, press the button to your right, jump to the icy island, to the platform with the chopper (note the keyhole in the wooden wall, for much later), shoot the dogs and the worker and go all the way back to the boat the way you came (in my game the current took the boat back to the ledge where I used the key). Mount, drive under the arched black bridge and dismount in the area with the mini-submarine.

 

[Note:] There's a bug here; I parked the boat in the left side (gray ledge with the cages) and when I went back the boat was totally stucked into the big pipes so I couldn't use it anymore. [End note]

 

The Caves

Shoot the worker and go up the black ramp opposite the truck (beware of the rolling barrels), from the top of the ramp go left and to the snowy area, shoot two more workers, pick up the flares and the uzi clips they drop and for an extra pickup continue clockwise to find desert eagle ammo. Back to the wooden ledges enter into the room with the big drills, shoot the dogs and the worker, pick up his flares and climb the ledge with the moving crane if you want extra uzi clips; continue through the big opening opposite the entrance and at the end of the path shoot another worker, advance and go left to an area with two moving drills, time them to cross to the other side of the cave and slide to a room with falling icicles and moving wheels; make your way to advance avoiding the wheels (not hard), pick up the shotgun shells in a recess in the right side of the path with the last wheel and in the area with the giant snowball climb the opening in the right side and continue to a room with several fire emitters.

 

Icy Lake Area

Grab the monkeyswing and time the fire emitters to cross to the other side (this was specially hard for me), go through the crawlspace, shoot the worker, pick up the shotgun shells (note the receptacle for a card) and climb down the ladder. Press the button to open the next door and shoot two workers, pick up the small medipack one of them drops and go inside the green building; time the moving drill and the teeth doors, press the button to open a door somewhere and go back outside, shoot a worker, pick up his uzi clips and go all the way back to the cave with the big snowball to find the open door (fortunately this time the fires are off in the room with the monkeyswing).

 

The Rig Key

Enter, slide and quickly climb the ladder to your right, go through the crawlspace and in the area with the frozen lake wait for the drill to break the icy surface, jump into the water and dive to the top of the central pillar to get the Heating Room Keycard, back to the area with the green building, climb up the ladder again and use the keycard to open the door, enter, pull both switches to release the big snowball and go back there via the lake area, pick up the Rig Key next to the skeletons (*) and go all the way back to the area with the mini-submarine (this time jump back up to the lake area and go always left avoiding a moving drill on your way).

 

Third Secret

(*)Detour for a secret: after you pick up the rig key slide down to the floor with the big snowball and go again through the opening with the octagonal door: the room where the big drill was has changed; take a running jump with grab to the ledge next to the ladder, climb down and run off the edge diagonally (with grab) to get the SECRET #3: the Desert Eagle and 2 X desert eagle ammo. Use the long ladder to go back to the lake area.

 

Last Building

Mount the boat (if you can; unfortunately I was forced to go swimming from island to island to the ledge attached to the arched black bridge, picking up uzi clips on my way there) and drive to the arched black bridge, don't cross it but look at its left side for a snowy ledge where you can dismount, climb up the ladder, take a curved running jump to the snowy platform with the fences, jump to the icy island, to the platform with the chopper and use the key to raise the cover, press the button, enter, shoot the workers go left, shoot more workers, climb the ladder near the machine with the moving cylinder, continue and look for a grate you can shoot in an opening, shoot more workers in the final room, pick up the Lead Acid Battery one of them drops and use it in the panel of the crane to lower the capsule and finish the level.

 

 

LEVEL 2: UNDER THE ICE

 

Room with Moving Drills

Note the slot for a card in front of you and go left (duck and advance crawling to not make noise), don't shoot the worker or you'll alert several others; instead, go left-right and climb down the ladders to reach the entrance of a room with three moving drills. In this room the gray crates are movable and your goal here is to pick up the item the white man dropped when died in the left side of the room, so make your way to move the crates to trap the drills and finally get the Laser Injector Fluid (not hard). Also the top of the lower crates are protected with barbed wires, and if you are creative you can get shotgun shells and mp5 clips too. When you are done in this room go back up to the upper area the way you came.

 

More Moving Drills

From the top of the last ladder shimmy right, jump over the hole and go right, pick up the uzi clips and place the injector in the receptacle to open a door somewhere, also a red laser appears in the corridor so duck and advance crawling, locate the opening with the open door in the main corridor, just in front of the exit, enter, pick up the flares and carefully drop into the hole. Go through the crawlspace and in the next corridor continue crawling to not alert a second worker, go right and through the first opening to your left, pick up the flares (*) and climb the opening to your right. Continue and in the room with the grated floor go left-right timing the moving drills to press a button closing a door somewhere, exit and go right-right-left to a corridor with moving lasers.

 

Moving Lasers Corridor

Go right and make your way to reach the end of the corridor crawling/sliding/jumping when necessary, drop through the hole behind the double drills (remember to use the "sprint" key when ducking) and press another button near the showers to activate teeth doors somewhere (there are shotgun shells in a shower); go through the opening opposite the button, shoot the worker and go left to the kitchen to get the SECRET #4: MP5 clips and the MP5 Gun (shoot the chef and pick up his flares). Now exit the kitchen and go right-right up the ramp timing the fire emitters to the main corridor at the top, shoot the worker, crawl under the laser, pick up the uzi clips he dropped and look for an opening in the ceiling near the closed doors (left side) to get back to the starting room.

 

The Pressure Chamber Keycard

This time shoot the worker (quickly so he doesn't close a door somewhere), crawl under the laser trap and go down the right passage, shoot another worker, turn right and locate the teeth doors in the right side; enter, pick up the uzi clips and pull the switch in the corner to stop a fan somewhere; go out, left, up the ramp and right to the corridor where you got the flares time ago (*), climb, turn left to find the inactive fan, go through and drop down to find a new area. Go to the end of the passage to get MP5 clips, now go back and left inside a room with several mutants, pick up the desert eagle ammo and uzi clips next to the cages and the Pressure Chamber Keycard near the center of the room.

 

The Big Cave

Now go back to the very beginning of the level (passage with the inactive fan) to use the keycard; in this small room pull the switch to raise the cover, pull the second switch to flood the room and pull the UW lever to open the door, continue swimming and surface out of the base in a big cave. Shoot the enemies, pick up the MP5 clips one of them drops jump onto the snowy mound next to the water to get shotgun shells and if you want you can go to the corner to the left of the long ladder to shoot a caged giant wasp and a worker to get his flares; in the area with the moving drill there are grenades too, but you'll need to move yourself fast; anyway go to the corner in the right side (facing the base), jump/grab the edge of the slope and shimmy left until you can pull up; above this ledge pick up flares and the Maintenance Key, shoot the enemy who appears on the mound where the shotgun shells were and pick up his MP5 clips.

 

The Mask of the Iris

Now approach to the big pit and jump onto the flatter tiles (always beware of the falling spiked cylinders in this area); once you reach the row of three flatter tiles the camera changes, it's time to drop onto the tile with the fire emitter and drop even lower onto the snowy ledge with the small lamp. Continue dropping onto the rocky ledge below, turn left and jump to the snowy bridge with the statue, [Optional:] run to the end, turn right and take a running jump to grab the edge of the icy block, pull up, turn right and take a running jump to the protruding ledge in the center of the pit, shoot the enemy, pick up 3 X shotgun shells and take a running jump back to the icy bridge with the statue [/optional]. From the end of the bridge turn left and take a running jump to the ledge with the small lamp, go through the opening to your right, shoot the worker, pick up his small medipack and use the key to raise the cover, press the button to stop the moving cylinder and get the Mask of the Iris. [Optional:] Back outside drop down two blocks, turn right and jump onto a lower block to get uzi clips and MP5 ammo; go back to the bridge with the statue [/optional].

 

On the Big Slope

From this snowy bridge jump to the ledge with the rocky blocks and advance to the end of the pit, from the last rocky block take a running jump to the other side of the pit, climb the icy blocks and use the monkeyswing to cross back to the side of the pit you came from. From this position turn left and take a running jump to land onto the sloped ledge, slide/grab the edge/shimmy right/pull up and take a standing jump onto the flatter part of the slope, climb up the ladder but quickly drop to avoid the spiked cylinder; nothing in the dark passage so take a running jump to the nearby icy bridge, avoid another cylinder and take a running jump to the rocky blocks attached to the wall, avoid more cylinders and use the flatter tiles to advance in the direction of the fire emitters (avoiding more cylinders on your way, of course; you'll need to go a bit back towards the icy wall to get access from the upper tiles), time the fires and continue to the far side of this sloped area until you reach the block with the small medipack on top.

 

Two Switches

Turn right and drop into the hole, continue and place the mask to open the door; jump into the water, avoid the rotating blades and swim to the very bottom to get the SECRET #5: grenades and the Grenade Launcher. Go back outside and from the top of the block where the small medipack was take some jumps to the corner with the wall switch, pull it so you can return here later; approach to the border, turn right and take a running jump to the top of the icy block attached to the wall, continue running and jumping counterclockwise until you reach the ledge with the switch (1 of 2), pull it, safely drop to the floor, shoot the enemies and go back via the long ladder to the top of the block where the small medipack was.

 

Continue going up using the flatter tiles and avoiding more cylinders until you reach the very top of the big slope where the exit door is; shoot the giant wasps, climb the ladder in the right side and continue running and jumping onto the flatter tiles in the direction of the icy wall until you reach a recess with a switch (2 of 2), pull it to open the exit door (and release a giant mutant too) and to get the last secret of this level roll, approach to the edge of the last flatter tile, turn right and take a running jump towards the icy wall dropping through a hole with the SECRET #6: 2 X desert eagle ammo; follow the UW passage to go back to the ledge with the exit door, shoot the mutant if you want and slide down the long ramp to finish the level.

 

 

LEVEL 3: IRIS BOREALIS

 

First Fight

Pick up the small medipack, the uzi clips, the flares and the shotgun shells; slide down the next ramp and continue straight ahead to a room where you'll be received by several giant mutants, when the calm is restored pick up the desert eagle ammo, the MP5 clips and in the corridor where the last mutant came from the first Iris Key, pull the switch to open the exit door and go back outside.

 

Second Fight

Go right and run all around clockwise ignoring the wide passages to your right until you eventually reach a narrow passage with an open grate in front of a big brown column, enter (the door closes at your back as before), shoot all the giant wasps and when all they die the fire at the top of the central block turns off; pick up the grenades, take a standing jump to the top of the block and pick up the second Iris Key: a door opens opposite the entrance, go there, pull the switch to open the exit door and go back outside.

 

Third Fight

Again, go right and run all around clockwise ignoring the wide passages to your right until you eventually reach a narrow passage with an open grate in front of a big brown column, enter (the door closes at your back as before), this time pick up the small medipack, the uzi clips and the MP5 ammo, jump onto the central block and when you pick up the third Iris Key a horde of lizards will appear (don't stay too much time on the block), shoot them all and, as usual go to the corridor opposite the entrance and pull the switch to open the exit door.

 

Fourth Fight

Again, go right and run all around clockwise ignoring the wide passages to your right until you eventually reach a last narrow passage with an open grate in front of a big brown column, enter (the door closes at your back as before) and this time you'll need to deal with a lot of raptors and a T-Rex; when all of them are defeated go to the corridor where the T-Rex came from, pick up the fourth Iris key and pull the switch to open the exit door.

 

Final Fight

Go outside and this time go through either wide corridor you ignored earlier, explore the passages to find a hole in a corner, climb down the ladder to find yourself in a huge room with a central pool (cold waters). First of all pick up all the stuff you find around the central pit (you'll need it), use the keys to dry the central pool and drop there to the final room of this adventure. As in TR3, shoot the Willard Mutant until he temporarily falls and press one of the buttons, repeat this maneuver two more times and when all three buttons are pressed you get access to an escape opening, run up the ramp and pick up the Iris to finish the adventure.
