Corti, Calli e Campi

Lara starts in a courtyard in front of the rear facade of Ca’ Dario palace; the opening scene shows the palace facade and the side facade of the white building next to it. Upon leaving the courtyard, you will begin to hear Vivaldi’s Winter symphony. You can proceed to the left, but it is more convenient to go to the right:

- to the left, through an open door, you enter a small building that has direct access to a canal (slightly to the right of that access, there is a closed door on the white palace and a keyhole);

- to the right, there is a dark, narrow alley and a bridge. Beyond the bridge to the left, proceed to a courtyard, climb the long staircase to the top and open the door, kill the dog, pull the lever at the back of the room to open a door halfway up the external staircase, from that open door jump to the balcony opposite, save, and try to jump to the window at the bottom right, shoot to break the window glass, inside the room collect ammo, open the door and exit into the courtyard. Go back to the bridge and dive into the canal.

Please note: in the city of Venice, the real one, swimming in the canals is dangerous and strictly forbidden, anyone caught doing so is fined and banned for life from the city.

Swim to the steps leading up to the large campo (square) with the church and enter the covered alley on the left until you emerge into a small courtyard. With a series of jumps, climb onto the roofs.

 

First Secret

The third roof has a window in the left corner, enter, break the glass, and push the box. Pushable blocks are bugged, so don't worry if they seem to not work properly, just try with a different starting position. Enter the room, go down and press the button to open the door leading to a vertical shaft; halfway down the shaft, there is a small room closed by a door. Go down to the bottom of the shaft, enter another room and press the buttons hidden behind the tattered walls to open the doors. Climb up the shaft and enter the small room with a backflip, press the button and open the door leading to the roof. Return outside to the window on the roof and pull the block back to its original position. Return to the small room and climb the shaft to the room with blocks, push the same block inside the broken window, pull the left block, go past it and push the left block. Beyond the series of blocks is a very high shaft with water at the bottom, dive in and climb the shaft ladder until you exit through a small opening on the left wall: you have found the first secret. Enter the room and, in the red-lit niche at the back, collect ammo and the shotgun. Look at the floor: you will return here for another secret. Open the door to exit the room and return to the roofs.

 

Church

Jump onto the flat roof next to the church, shoot the window and drop down inside the church. Descend to the ground floor and pull the lever that opens the main door leading to the large campo, go to the back of the room, you will hear Vivaldi’s Summer symphony. To the right, press the button that opens a door; to the left, another button opens the door leading into a dark room. Behind the altar on the left, pull a lever that opens a grey door leading to a hidden canal. Now you can choose two different paths: window dive or hidden trapdoor.

Window dive: climb the ladder to the left of the altar and jump onto the wooden podium, with a running jump grab the matching podium on the other side, jump to the ledge on the left and jump to the ledge immediately above, jump onto the suspended arch on the left and dive from the window into the canal, swim left to the grey door nearby that you opened with the lever behind the altar and enter the crypt.

Hidden trapdoor: enter the door to the left of the altar, jump onto the bookshelf, collect flares, light a flare, climb into the dark crawlspace and to the left reach a ladder that climbs to a gallery overlooking the church, go straight past the door that opens by itself, continue along the gallery above the altar and in the red room collect small medipack and ammo and press a button that opens the trapdoor in the previous room, drop down to the ground floor and pull the lever that opens the timed door behind the altar to the right, pay attention to the trapdoor leading to spikes right behind you. Once through the timed door, press the button that opens another trapdoor to enter the crypt.

 

Crypt

Whether you entered through the grey door or the trapdoor, proceed along the corridor to the left to the very end and enter the dark shaft with a wet floor, in the next room slide and jump to clear the pit with the quicksands and collect the rusty key on the pedestal, slide into the main room and go back to the grey door which, if not already open, can be opened with the lever in front of it.

 

Side Entrance of the Palace

Swim to the opposite side of the white palace from where the level started. Enter the open door and climb the boxes to collect the blue key. Swim to the side entrance of the white palace near the start of the level, use the blue key and climb over the box to the right, go up the stairs to a passage on metal grates and peek inside the monumental entrance of the palace, continue to a room where you collect the first golden key and exit the palace, entering a house.

 

Houses

After collecting the golden key, enter the house, you will hear Vivaldi’s Spring symphony, and proceed to the left where you climb the bookshelf to find the second secret and collect shotgun, ammo, big medipack and flares. Pull the lever, go down the internal stairs into the outer courtyard and go up the external stairs, open the door and go right, pull a block to drop down inside a chimney, press the button to open the door leading to the courtyard. Return to the house with the internal staircase, climb over the boxes in the ground floor room and pull the hidden lever to open a timed door in the room down from the chimney to enter a cellar with the third secret, collect uzi, ammo and flares. Go back up the external stairs and jump onto the box on the window, jump to the roof opposite and you can choose two paths: right for the fourth secret and left to proceed with the level.

 

Fourth Secret: the speedboat

Climb onto the chimney on the right and jump into the house across the canal, entering a bedroom through the window, open the door to enter another bedroom and jump from the window to a terrace slightly further right, climb the roof up to a chimney on the right, jump to the roof ledge and shimmy right to reach the building across the canal, climb onto the roof and slide with a backflip to enter the vertical shaft directly and fall into a water garage, the fourth secret, press the button to open the door, if you wish you can take the speedboat out through the canals but it is better to climb back up the shaft using the climbable wall inside it directly from the water, jump to the balcony across the canal, jump to the lower balcony, enter the room, collect ammo and go to the upper room by jumping over the desk and return to the terrace, continue up the roof to the end and jump left onto another roof toward a large flat roof.

 

Cloister

Whether you arrive from the fourth secret path or you took the direct route by turning left, you will emerge onto a large flat roof overlooking a cloister. Perform a running jump from the flat roof of the cloister into the well at the center, climb the wall of the well directly from the water and proceed into the porticos, you will hear Vivaldi’s Autumn symphony. Climb the stairs leading to the first floor and enter the hall, if you like the view go onto the balcony overlooking the cloister and watch the scene, climb over the boxes in the hall to drop into a hole in the room below and find the fifth secret and collect the medipack, exit through the crawlspace on the left to return to the cloister. Exit the cloister into a courtyard and open the door leading to the canal. From the cloister, enter a small room: (if you wish, you can press a button to open the door leading to a small corridor which, if you had opened the door in the right transept of the church, allows you to re-enter the church) open the door on the left and use the rusty key you found in the crypt to exit into a garden, (if you wish, press the button that opens the door to return to the large campo) enter the room by opening the door in the garden at the far left, kill the small spiders, proceed to the right and you will hear the TR2 Venice level soundtrack inspired by Vivaldi, climb the internal ladder to the top and dive into the pool—no jumping necessary.

 

Main Entrance of the White Palace

After diving from the bell tower into the pool, climb onto the roof opposite to the right (the low one) and drop into the shaft at the end, enter the window and collect the second golden key. At the bottom of the shaft, open two doors that allow you to connect the large campo with the campiello. Fall through the trapdoor in the center of the room next to the golden key and push the box to enter another room with a painting, press the button to open the door on the left, go out onto the balcony and jump into the niche on the left, enter and climb the shaft, press the button to open the painting-door and the trapdoor in the adjacent room, drop through the trapdoor and you find the sixth secret, collect ammo, press the buttons to open the doors leading to the starting courtyard and into a campiello with a bridge. From the campiello with a bridge proceed to the main entrance of the white palace, place the two golden keys in the two keyholes and enter the palace.

 

The White Palace

Having entered through the main entrance of the large white palace, proceed down the stairs, cross the inner court and, reach the garden: if you wish enter the dark hall and kill the dogs, otherwise climb the side passage on the right wall of the garden, enter the room and go left, climb the stairs and enter the room on the right, proceed to the back of the room, (you will have noticed the doors open by themselves; are there ghosts?) cross through the door on the left and enter the salone nobile. (The great Venetian palaces have a large hall on the so-called “nobile” floors, which are usually the most lavish and decorated. The hall of this palace and Ca’ Dario—just like the real 15th-century palace the level is named after—overlook, in my imagination, the Grand Canal of Venice, which for obvious reasons cannot be built with Tomb Editor and cannot even be represented with simple textures).

Climb the boxes on the left in the salone nobile and pull the brown box. Proceed through the door on the opposite wall and go left until you reach the stairs, climb up and go left to the room at the end, jump from the window to the roof opposite and enter a small window into a room, drop through the trapdoor and inside a crawlspace press a button to open two timed doors in the salone nobile: with a series of well-timed jumps you pass the second timed door only after having already moved the box beneath, and you find the seventh secret. Return to the second floor of the great salone nobile hall and jump across the inner court above the garden, jump again across the covered inner court, you will hear the original Tomb Raider main theme, go into a passage on the right side of the room with a rug and drop into the hole in the floor, proceed through the subsequent rooms until you reach a room with floor and walls made of many different materials, press a button to open two doors, enter the next room, it’s the same room where you collected the first golden key, proceed through the passage with metal grates and cross it to the stairs where you find another door you’ve just opened, enter the room and find more stairs to the right, climb the stairs, press the button on the right and enter the room with the patterned marble floor, go to the end and watch the scene, proceed to the next room and finally jump through the window into Ca’ Dario palace.

 

Inside Ca’ Dario

(“Ca’” is short for “casa” which means house). Press the button in front, it opens nothing. Press the other button and enter the next room, open the door that leads to the inner court, the windows are unbreakable, go down into the inner court and enter through a small window on the ground floor, to the right is a room with water, climb the stairs for two floors and press the button—the lights on the lower floors turn on. Now you can more easily see a crawlspace near the water slide; enter and proceed left, kill the large spiders, pull the lever at the end to open the trapdoor, climb up and pull the other lever in the room above, climb the ladder again and enter the library, go to the books and watch and listen to the scene. Lara reads parts of recently leaked secret documents that revealed the existence of the Spell and the artifact to the world, discovering that everything took place on a Mediterranean island. Specifically, she reads that the artifact was pink, just like the portal she discovered in the dungeons of an island castle a few years ago (Tomb Portal, the first level of the series).

 

Eighth Secret

For this secret, you must have already discovered the first and fourth secret (speedboat) and you must have already opened the two doors in the small covered alley that directly connects the large campo with the campiello. Position the speedboat in front of the campiello bridge near the main entrance of the white palace, in a convenient spot to jump directly into the boat from the campiello. Return to the room of the first secret, jump on the slightly darker floor squares in order from the step toward the windows to open the door in the far left corner (you can step on the floor squares next to the dark ones, the important thing is to follow the sequence), save, press the button to open the timed doors on the canal near the crypt; you will see a timer on the screen: run toward the speedboat positioned as described above, taking the shortest possible route (swimming in the canal that leads to the large campo and passing through the small covered alley that connects the large campo to the campiello), jump into the speedboat, accelerate to the end of the canal where the grey crypt door is located and enter the metal doors before they close: congratulations, you have reached the eighth secret. (At the end of the series, the full game will be released with all levels, and there will be a bonus level unlockable only after discovering all secrets). You will need to make a very precise turn to enter, or you can dive from the boat through the doors. Proceed inside the water court and into the secret palace, walk in front of the metal door, enter, go forward and watch the scene—congratulations, this secret was not easy!

 

Level ending

In the library of Ca’ Dario palace, pull the book-shaped lever on the red carpet which opens a trapdoor in the ceiling, climb the bookshelf and enter the attic, collect flares and the second rusty key and return to the floor below, use the key and open the doors, exit into the courtyard: witness the meeting between Lara and Mr. X, who explains Trinity's intentions regarding the search for the artifact and the reactivation of the Spell. Also, listen to Lara's thoughts at the end of the scene. Open the door at the back of the courtyard and finish the level.
