Reviewer's comments
"Another fairly good début level and not as "trappy" as you'd deduce from the title. A solid setting, if a bit dark in places and the main gameplay revolves around finding Golden Vraeus and Guardian Key artefacts. There is a couple of jumps that I felt were too based on precision for my liking (across to a grate in the four switch room and past a slope en route to a ladder), but everything else is seemingly straightforward." - Ryan (07-May-2017)
"An average karnak-WAD level, with a mixed set of textures from different Tomb Raider games. There are at least two (if not, nearly) impossible jumps in the level, both requiring the pixel precision that only this engine could conceive. After the umpteenth time I simply opted for the easy way and dozyed past both of them (the one over the crocodile pond and the one over the fire pit between slopes). The quest for the items to proceed is rather easy and there are a few designing mistakes, such as the visible bottom of the world and a couple of wafer thin floors. 25 minutes, 2 secrets. 12/07" - Treeble (01-Dec-2007)
"There's not anything special in this game, a simply and lineal gameplay ruined with some unnecesary tricky jumps (the last jump over the slope near the end is the hardest I've ever done). Few enemies, only the shotgun as extra weapon and easy secrets. Poor musics and cameras, and correct textures. The area with the two golden wraeus was the most interesting place from this frustrating level." - Jose (01-Nov-2007)
"Another promising debut level and a pleasure to play, although the inclusion of a few surprisingly tricky jumps would seem to indicate (should Asphalt continue with his hobby) that we might have a new 'fiendish builder' on the scene. The environments are serviceable but nothing to write home about;the enemies are the standard crowd, and progression is pretty linear and straightforward. All the same, this is far better than everyone's scores would generally suggest and it adds up to a fun 40 minute adventure." - Orbit Dream (11-Oct-2007)
"No need to use the included TR4 file at least I didn't had a problem not using it. The beginning is quite tame but getting the Guardian Keys (yes plural) had me puzzled a bit as you have to know you way around and that is trial and error or else the tile will burn. For the rest it is a hunt mainly for Guardians Keys. I thought that I must have gone the wrong way, as I ended up in a corridor behind a gate in a lava room and right there was the sneakiest jump I saw in a long time. But thanks to someone of a Chinese forum I could do it." - Gerty (28-Sep-2007)
"This is actually quite a fast paced 30 minutes run through a rather brightly lit level, so do not be misled by the 'Cave' in the title. And it gets better and better as you progress, from fairly boring button pushing and using of reach in switches and scorpion shooting to more diverse jumping around rooms, always collecting guardian keys, vraeus and canopic jars along the way in order to move on. There are also a dozen or so crocs to kill or avoid and it all would have been jolly fun if not for three jumps during the game which need to be absolutely pixel perfect and are as frustrating as they are unnecessary in this otherwise rather pleasant game." - MichaelP (28-Sep-2007)
"I spent twenty five minutes in this level which is much too simple for my taste. The setting is also simple, with just the basic and some indoor greenery. There are plenty of pyramid keys to find and few vraeus as well. There is one promising jump in the area with the water and the niches but much else. The niches and doors are too many and there is no real interest here for even a medium player. The crocodiles come in teams so are the scorpions so watch out for them. If you like simple, too simple and easy levels this one is just right for you." - Kristina (27-Sep-2007)
"The title may be ominous, but the level is actually quite gentle. The gameplay is well balanced, linear and uncomplicated with only a couple of slightly more challenging jumps to achieve. It moves along at a nice pace and, for a debut level, is quite competently and attractively built. At around 45 minutes of gameplay, it makes a nice filler in between some of those mega levels you may have been playing lately - you could certainly do worse." - Jay (27-Sep-2007)
"This debut level is longer than some and has some interesting things to do: there are tricky jumps to preform and deadly floors to be avoided; ropes, shimmy cracks, monkeyswings and enemies to be fought. All in a pleasent looking enviroment - I just love the Tinnos textures. OK, so the outside areas are too bright, there are some paperthin walls and when you are in the higher areas you can see the "end of the world". But this is a first level after all. There are alot of key placements and a few cameras to show the result of your actions would have been a nice touch but this is really my only complaint. The Traps Cave is an enjoyable level, I look forward to Asphalt's next." - Kitkat (23-Sep-2007)
"This is a 38 minutes level built with the Karnak Wad but with different textures. Enemies are pack of small scorpions and crocodiles. There is room for improvment for the looks : The setting has some thin walls and you can see the black horizon in the outside areas. The lighting is generally too bright , or with dark corners. It starts very simply , but later on you will have two difficult jumps to make , one in the middle of the level and one near the end. The first part was a hunt for guardian keys, with a mistake as if you get the pad tiles puzzle wrong , one of the guardian keys is set on fire and there is no way to reset the puzzle. It gets better afterwards. Actually I quite enjoyed the gameplay in the second part around the two golden Vraeus areas, except naturally for the tricky jump." - eRIC (09-Sep-2007)
