Reviewer's comments
"In which the builder abandons all claims for gameplay. Like her previous efforts, this one is built with the City wad, now pressed into service for constructing a Home level in which there is nothing to do. Once more, the map is small; it bears no resemblance to The Mansion (only a couple of textures were taken from it, the rest is custom), which may be regarded as a plus; but needless to say, it also bears no resemblance to anybody’s ‘student crib’; one should expect the level to look rather more like Lara in a Box if it did. Thus the level is not only anachronistic (widescreen TV), but also anatopistic (the entire map). Its closest living relative is probably Mirai’s Studio Ummo, but foregoing that level’s doomed attempts at realism, it goes for minimalism instead—what’s not in the wad and couldn’t be built with Editor blocks simply isn’t there. It’s not so much a TR level as a sandbox game, which according to Wikipedia means something like ‘a game that gives you a safe space to exert your creativity’, or in practice and without kindergarden teacher jargon, one that features no gameplay. It figures, then, that there is no finish trigger this time around. This kind of thing may be fun to create, but its appeal to people other than the one engaging in it is rather limited." - Mulf (10-Mar-2022)
"laras student crib isnt much to see unfortunately, nice and different style textures and cool purple lighting but as for gameplay well searching dozens of similar looking home style rooms for a crowbar to open up a small gym and a room with a shotgun which has no use, completely boring and dull with no finish trigger, give this one a miss" - John (14-Aug-2021)
"This is just a small house with some rooms to visit. The only main tasks is to find a crowbar to open the gym, find a shotgun and fill the empty pool. There's a room with shining lights and I guess that was the music room where you can "dance" while the music lasts. I would've liked to swim inside the big pool in the middle of the house but there's no way to get there. Pick-ups are useless. I found like 2 pieces of a knight but I couldn't pick them up because they're behind unbreakable gratings." - alan (10-Feb-2018)
"Nothing interesting in this small level without finish trigger; the only reason to play it is to take a look at the several rooms of an apartment and no more. The lonely task is to get the crowbar and open two crowbar doors. And what is the shorgun for? Not worth to play." - Jose (15-Nov-2017)
"Why Lara would kick in doors in her own holiday house is beyond me but that was the most interesting part of the whole level. Textures were well chosen but that's it. No finish trigger." - Ryan (06-Apr-2016)
"I will give this "level" points for its originality of recreating a new house for Lara. There's nothing to do but to go sightseeing through the whole area. And there are some useless pick ups. Except for the crowbar. Who would've imagined that you need to break in to enter intoo your own gym!!" - Gonxii (20-Nov-2015)
"This is just a few brief moments galloping round a few rooms in a strange dwelling, kicking open doors and finding one or two items for which you have absolutely no use. There's no gameplay as such and it's not particularly interesting to look at, sadly." - Jay (11-Nov-2015)
"A fairly standard home level that contains a lot of elements that you'd expect, but with no finish trigger in sight or any real point to exploring the 'apartment' aside from sheer curiosity, this release will quickly wear out its welcome fast. Personally, I wouldn't bother with this one." - Ceamonks890 (29-Jun-2015)
"Ouch! Now we know what Lara did when she was a student. In this short level Lara is kicking open many doors, finding a crowbar and several pickups and can look at all the simplistic rooms, a sauna, swimming pool and a gym. There is no finish trigger and no real game play, just running and looking. If you need something less than 10 minutes long, want a level without enemies and have played most other levels then you might like this one." - Blue43 (29-Sep-2011)
"Every student would like to have certainly such a shack. There is a pool, a sports room, a gymnastics room which one can also use as a party room, a sauna, a living room, a bedroom and a few rooms more. Such a thing cannot afford everybody. There one must have quite rich parents. And if the benevolent student uses all comfort, he has certainly hardly time to go to the university. But, nevertheless, it was sometimes a nice change to see the student shack of Lara. But after less than 10 minutes I had seen everything and have gone again. At least, Lara had cleared up before." - Scottie (12-Feb-2010)
"This level shows that Lara came from a wealthy family because her student crib was quite luxurious (televisions comfortable beds a disco room and a sauna). The fact that it is deserted probably indicates that the officials of the boarding school were no longer capable of financing the boarding school. There are paper-thin walls useless pickups (except for the crowbar) and a bug whenever she climbs a ladder. Since there was very little to do I had to give a 2 for gameplay. This level should've been a bonus level (after playing one of the author's real levels). By the way this level doesn't have a finishing trigger." - Sakusha (20-Apr-2004)
"This is a level that I played long ago forgot about and then remembered. Remembered that it was a five minute level that is. High-ho silver here I come. So I re-downloaded and played again - for actually 10-12 minutes. Very nice textures cool disco room. Two bugs in the gym - my rope grab made Lara disappear and the room jiggle like crazy (I said the room not Lara). And when I tried to climb the blue-roped blocks Lara disappeared into the block. Found the shotgun in the attic and tried to blow things up. Especially my housemate's things (I think there were only 2 bedrooms - now I forget). To end the level Lara set herself on fire. Apparently she can't cook." - Lady Lara (25-Dec-2003)
"This is a beautiful level but seemingly unfinished. Find a secret attic find a crowbar to get in the gym and fill the pool- not much to do really. A secret in the mirror room wouldn't have gone amiss and a way to get the armour. But it was fun for a quick look worth downloading." - Croft Storm (27-Oct-2003)
"Some lovely textures used here. It's supposed to be when Lara was a student sharing accommodation. Kitchen bedrooms shower rooms with walk-through shower curtains swimming pool sauna room attic bedroom disco room and gymnasium. There are pieces of armour behind grids in a few places but I couldn't figure out how to get them. Right in the centre of the complex is a swimming pool/aquarium type water room but again I don't know if you can get in there. The only bit of fun I had was when Lara tried to climb in the gym she disappeared inside the column and when she tried to rope swing the camera went crazy like the rope turned into a bucking broncho to throw Lara off; the longer you held action the longer you bounced around. You keep getting the feeling that there's something to do or find like her housemates for example. Check out the textures though they're cool." - CC (06-Jun-2003)
"It was quite hard searching for all the rooms and the gym was great because I like climbing up and doing the monkey-swing. I liked Lara's home because there was a secret room above a TV in the kitchen and you could pull a lever to fill her swimming pool with water. I went searching everywhere for the shotgun. Also the lighting in the Disco room was excellent! Even though there were no baddies to kill it was great fun." - Cory (15-Dec-2002)
"What better way for Lara to unwind between missions than in these sumptuous surroundings in her past? I was a student in 1986 myself but my life was nothing like as elegant as hers. I particularly enjoyed her Disco room but where were Sigue Sigue Sputnik? Jennifer Rush? Scritti Politti? Not here that's for certain. Neither was there that much to do actually. Explore a disappointingly small loft area; frolic in the Gym; fill the swimming pool with water and that was about it. Not even an outside area as far as I could tell. Still what there was was very well made (..except the Widescreen Televisions.Way back in 1986? I don't think so!) and it's a bit of much needed non-violent fun between expeditions." - Orbit Dream (14-Dec-2002)
"I didn't see any crib but there were some interesting textures although the thin walls were present. I also found the crowbar to open the gym but a small one as it only has a few blocks a rope in the middle and two higher blocks with the monkey swing between them. There was a pool you could fill up by pushing a lever and there is the breast plate and one gauntlet. If you are looking for excitement look elsewhere." - Kristina (10-Dec-2002)
"This seems like a test level to me. There is not much to do except running around looking at things and collect a few items. In the 'gym' I encountered some bugs Lara wouldn't stay on the rope or wouldn't climb on the ceiling. Some music was used and the texturing was quite nice. TVs and similar were textures and still looked well. The sauna was also quite nice. If you want to build a house level or just want something for the eye you might want to have a look to get some ideas but if you want to play a good level look for something else." - Tombraidergirl (26-Aug-2002)
"There's not really anything in this level to do but explore the perfectly set out apartment great textures were combined to make truly believable rooms such as Lara's bedroom complete with stereo and a couch covered in imitation cow fabric or the small but authentic looking sauna if you want action then don't worry otherwise take a look." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"This is really a cool level to look at. I really enjoyed wandering around in that apartment like structure marveling at those many nice ideas that were built into it like the cow-texture sofa the sauna the stereo the curtains the party room TV-sets and the fireplace in the kitchen. Also great to see (or hear) the attention to the noise Lara's footsteps make (often neglected in other levels). The downside is of course that there is no real gameplay here and I wonder why Lara in her own student crib would actually kick in the doors rather than just open them J" - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"Well if this was Lara's place when she was still at school (she must have developed early) I would have liked to have seen her in a school girl dress at the very least. Obviously she is a messy lass leaving shotgun shells and med packs and laser sights all over the house. The pool needed filling but I saw no point as none of her girlfriends where about to go skinny dipping with Lara. I enjoyed a few jumps and tumbles in the disco room complete with strobe light but actually partying by yourself is not all that much fun *grin*." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a different home for Lara. Very smaller than the original it contains a big aquarium a gym a pool room and the funniest was a radio room with a disco effect. I explored everything I could in short 10 minutes :)." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"You wander around Lara's apartment without many things to do. Some textures were nice and some were ok. Also I liked the cow-textured sofa. This level is for those who played all the good levels and don't have any to play anymore but still this level is just not much worthy of downloading!" - Yonatan (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is a fun place to look around but there is not very much to do here. This would be good for a first attempt at making a level though. It's basically a house (completely unlike the mansion) with a lot of funky rooms and furniture including a workout room with some good music a sauna bathrooms bedrooms etc. You can fill and/or empty the swimming pool and I had hoped the grate looking tile on the bottom went somewhere but apparently it did not. There is a mini assault course but the climb textures did not work for me nor did the rope. There is one trapdoor but not much else to do. There are no enemies at all but a lot of doors to open which leaves you wondering if anything is going to jump out at you when you open them. I kept wondering if there was something exciting to do and I was just missing it. No pick-ups really no enemies no difficulty at all but ok if you have a few minutes to spare." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"Lara's mansion a bit smaller but very well done. Lots of details went into furnishing the house. Kicking doors in opening a trapdoor and finding the crowbar to get to the gym and open the door in the attic. I don't mind living there." - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
"A cute little level where Lara is in her own little student crib. Probably she's angry since she kicks all the doors. Not much to do in this level but at least it's well textured." - Magnus (21-Jun-2002)
"Liked the use of the shower screens but the camera could have been switched to the other side quicker so as to avoid the delay in catching Lara up. Also liked the mirror and half expected something to show up on that side which gave an exit. But alas all you do is run around kicking doors open and finding one trap door. No enemies at all" - Whistle (21-Jun-2002)
"I don't know how this could be a level. Lara runs 15 minutes around and open many doors but she got nothing to do inside. The textures were well and partly unique the sounds were impressive in one place. That's all." - Xxenofex (21-Jun-2002)
"Compared to Lara's other levels this is really the weakest one in gameplay but it looks as good as no other one of hers. The cowskin covered beds the sauna a wide screen TV stereo system a gym and a swimming pool damn I could live there! It definitely is worth a look at it cause it really looks nice but if you want an action-packed adventure play another level." - eTux (21-Jun-2002)
"Well I can tell you that I didn't wallow in such luxury when I was studying. No Sauna no wide screen TVs and no big stereos; but what really disturbs me here is that Lara was apparently a vampire back in 86 cause you can't see her in the big mirror. Like in Secret Org this seems to be a texture/object exercise from the author that doesn't bother with such negligible aspects as gameplay enemies let alone secrets which is a pity really cause with a decent storyline this could have been an original adventure. As it is it's as exciting as shopping at Ikea on an early Monday morning." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002)
"I guess this is really an experiment in level building so I shouldn't be too critical and the fact that I didn't build it with the revised wad (hence knackering Lara's climbing animations) didn't help my enjoyment. What this level is is a romp through several rooms some lavishly furnished and decorated in search of the crowbar so you can gain access to the gym. A dance studio with mirrored wall had me searching for a non-existent hidden trapdoor and the absence of an end trigger made this an unsatisfying level for me." - Tune Razor (21-Jun-2002)
