Reviewer's comments
"This level is definitely an improvement over the first level, even though using a less- superior engine. But, the lack of a finish trigger and a door to use the Skull Key can be considered serious concerns here.
Like LuxQSD said, I wish JHN can return to build another level and see how far his building skills have come to." - Charles Kane (26-Aug-2023)
"As the name of the level implies, this isn't supposed to be a serious one. It's actually more like a test level, really. You make a few jumps, pick up some useless items and eventually end up in a room with no exit trigger. The author shows potential as this one shows some decent texturing and structure, but sadly this seems to be John's last project. We will await for your return, John, waiting with open arms for your next level...one day..." - LuxQSD (15-Mar-2022)
"Not sure what the point of this level is? There are a few pickups. Some block pushing and climbing about. Some pools to splash around in. I found a key that I couldn't do anything with and uzis that I could not coax Lara into picking up no matter what I tried. No enemies, no finish trigger. No fun!" - Chel (04-Nov-2018)
"This little early tidbit seems like another test rather than a full level. There's a bit more to accomplish than in other early efforts (a couple of pushable blocks and a key that have no visible function and a brief bit of climbing), but nothing to keep you occupied for long. It looks quite nice, but there's not much to get your teeth into." - Ryan (03-Aug-2018)
"To be perfectly optimistic, this level was better than the previous release from the builder. Nothing special to commend, actually. I suppose this level is a test level and is not meant to be something that makes sense." - Mehrbod (01-Aug-2018)
"Ten minutes of pointless wandering about with no objective and no end trigger. Hardly worth loading this one up but we must bear in mind that when these were done the authors, of their own volition were trying things out to see how they worked and if not for that, we would not have the marvelous unofficial levels that we have today." - Torry (02-Apr-2018)
"As all the previous reviewers have mentioned: Pointless climbing, swimming, collecting stuff that you won't need... no finish trigger." - Nuri (24-Feb-2018)
"Better than the first level from this author, when I started I thought I could find something entertaining in this short level. Better architecture and texturization, but flat lighting, a lot of pickups and some jumps but nothing to do with the movable blocks and not a keyhole to use the key I found in the last pool room. Checking the walkthrough I could see that there's not a finish trigger." - Jose (04-Nov-2017)
"There is very little to do in this level other than traverse through the various rooms, pick up a few objects you will never really need and then swim around for a bit bored out of your mind. It's better than the previous level by this builder but not by much." - Ejecta (14-Aug-2017)
"Climb some rocks, collect things and a key that you'll never use because there is neither keyhole nor end line. And Lara couldn't pick up the uzis due to the short space but they were unnecessary anyway." - alan (23-Apr-2017)
"This level is a bit more substantial than John his first level and you have to admire the first attempts when seeing the date this one was made. Not much to do as picking up goodies and one key. No finishing trigger I could find as well as no lock to use the key." - Gerty (06-Sep-2016)
"For what it's worth, I quite like the looks of TR1 levels, so while I'm taken aback with nostalgia with anything you throw at me, this level doesn't really offer you anything other than jumping and climbing about while gathering plenty of items, only to eventually reach a dead end without ever needing any of them. 10 minutes. 12/15" - Treeble (30-Dec-2015)
"Another contender for the 'very first Custom Level ever' prize, this one is marginally more ambitious than the other prototypes of this era in that it contains elements of gameplay (pushable blocks and an intriguing key)which, nonetheless, lead absolutely nowhere.Praise should be given to the builder for giving it a try;but no-one other than thorough reviewers should really go here (especially as the DosBox set-up required to play it is excessively fiddly!)" - Orbit Dream (01-Sep-2015)
"Not that bad as I thought it will be. The Peruvian setting is crude but it offers a bit of exploration though each pickable item is useless. There is even an attempt on pushblock puzzle but failed because of a wrongly calculated gap one is supposed to clear. Still, a huge difference in quality exists between this level and the total bottom I managed to complete recently. I even saved the game on two different slots and that means something. SUMMARY: A typical short break, can be even called pleasant. Recommended." - DJ Full (27-Apr-2015)
"A seemingly brief, unremarkable level with no finish trigger that uses Peru level assets to achieve it's rather bland and uninspired look. Gameplay is ultimately pointless as you spend all of your time climbing and jumping for pickups that provide no real use whatsoever(due to a lack of enemies), texturing is incredibly repetitive, level design is painfully blocky... Literally no redeeming qualities to justify playing this nowadays. Avoid at all costs." - Ceamonks890 (29-Jun-2014)
"Slightly better than previous level from this author. The textures are better placed and a bit different, there is water and some better jumps. Pushables are placed without reason, some textures repeating make no sense - like one with plants on them all over the room. No ending of the level. No enemies, useless pickups. But after other level there are improvements and this level looks quite nice at the moments." - Casual Raider (10-Jul-2013)
"As with most of these old TR1 style test levels, it's brief and has no finish trigger, but at least the gameplay lasts slightly longer than the usual 'blink and you'll miss it' brigade. Having said that, you only get to retrieve a pick up or two, do a little climbing and push a couple of blocks about (to little effect). For its age and genre, it does however look quite pretty." - Jay (03-Mar-2011)
"Same rating as for the author's last level. Texturing was boring and uniformly but correct, didn't look crude. Gameplay is not much, you can - like in the other level - pick up tons of pickups to find no single enemy. Not recommended." - manarch2 (06-Jan-2011)
"Well, it's certainly an improvement over the author's other level, and you can actually spend a few minutes jumping, shimmying and exploring here before coming to an abrupt halt. It might seem like the final room has not been very well thought through since you can't use the movable blocks to get to the other ledge with the door texture, but you can get up there using the corner bug only to find out that there's no way further or a finish trigger. Another historical curiosity, but not the worst pick if you're deliberately looking for something super-brief." - eTux (24-Jun-2010)
"Shame for this level. At least the author could put a final trigger. You run, climp and swim, while pick up weapons and medipacks, but unneccessery, you can't use them. In the last woom you will find a key in the water, and... and... this is the end. Its looks unfinished. Or test level. But what is the test of the author?" - Obig (14-May-2010)
"A pointless level with no goal and no end, where you can explore different rooms for weapons and pickups you don't need as there is no enemies. The pushable blocks are not necessary either." - eRIC (11-May-2010)
"A not unattractive beginning with Lara getting medipacks, magnums, shotgun, and ammo. She swims down for Uzis, but sensing what is coming, refuses to pick them up. There is nothing further to do. Has good fun with texturing, for Lara encounters what is surely a ladder. TR1 Lara doesn't climb." - dmdibl (04-May-2010)
"That level can't be finished since there's no end trigger in it. A little climbing in repetitively textured rooms and you reached the dead-end." - rtrger (06-Apr-2010)
"This one is a bit pointless as you get a simplistic boxy environemtn to climb and swim around in for a few minutes, collecting pickups that you do not need, including a key and then there is no finish trigger at the end. Not really worth a look." - MichaelP (28-Mar-2010)
