Reviewer's comments
"A very solid level by Matie. Pleasant to the eye, nice atmosphere and engaging gameplay. Not very complex or difficult. Suitable for everyone. Recommended." - BlackWolfTR (17-Mar-2024)
"This is good stuff. It starts out quite peacefully, and goes on like that for a while. As it approaches the ending though, Lara must endure a few complicated tasks, and I'm not even sure I'd have accomplished them as quickly if I hadn't searched the right way in the walkie. Hmm, surely not. The spikes room and the flame room are basically easy once you find out what to do. But there was something which I found particularly tough: Lara sliding down a few ledges surrounded by lava to land on the other side near the end. Pff. But I managed. The graphics and settings are very nice, and it has a good atmosphere throughout. Once Lara gets to the ending Greek balcony, she finally takes a well deserved rest, and so do we. To sum it up, this level mixes simple and complicated things, but is never too demanding, and I thoroughly enjoyed it." - Jorge22 (27-Feb-2024)
"Matie warns us in the readme that she has kept things simple in order to have a chance of finishing it. Well, this level proves that things don't have to be too complex to be good, quite the opposite. So, it has a flowing progression, the tasks/puzzles are very good and the visuals amongst the best levels using the BtB2015 package. Medium difficulty and player friendly gameplay. Highly recommended." - billie2001 (08-Feb-2024)
"this is a absolutley masterpiece with a awesome leveldesign, soundtrack and gameplay 10/10" - Raider278 (03-Feb-2024)
"The setting here is BTB Greece, and, as expected from this author, it looks great throughout, with interesting architecture, great object use and excellent texturing and lighting. There's nothing super stunning or new (though there are some nice scripted sequences later), but the visual execution is top quality throughout. Gameplay is strong throughout, with a nice difficulty ramp that starts off quite straightforward and gradually increases until some quite tricky moments towards the end (although nothing too overwhelming), including increasing combat and enemy difficulty; on the flip side off semi-linear and then gradually becomes more focused as it becomes more about puzzles and traps, although it's never too complex in that regard, and does a good job locking you into certain parts so you know you have more to do before moving on. The way one quite original spike sequence insta-kills you on "dormant" spikes to stop you skipping parts did result in some odd hitboxes at times, and a flame trap later could also set you alight through a floor, but these are obviously engine issues so there's only so much that could be done. There's also a nice secret hunt that rewards you for doing it. A very strong level that isn't too long or difficult, but has just enough going on to stay engaging throughout, and also comes to a satisfying conclusion." - Mman (01-Feb-2024)
"Disliked
  • As a minor complaint, there is a running jump that cannot be performed in the temple area because something invisible prevents Lara from grabbing the opposing ledge. Since jumping the opposite direction is fine, I can only guess this is to prevent a shortcut, but this is not the ideal way to do so.
Liked
  • Combat was engaging, with a variety of enemies to face off against, including hammer-weilding bulls and a laser-shooting medusa monster.
  • There's also plenty of traps for Lara to overcome, including rotating flames, boulders, and alternating spikes.
  • The visuals are strong, with this single level boasting a town, a temple, and lush natrual areas with great texturing and lighting.
Time: 1 hour 14 minutes | Difficulty: Hard | Rating: 9.25/10" - JesseG (30-Jan-2024)
"I was a bit surprised at how challenging this level proved to be. I'd rather expected a pleasant romp through a picturesque Greek village, but it turned out to be far more than that. We haven't heard from this builder lately, but her releases to date have been uniformly well received by the raiding community and this one is no different. Some reviewers have remarked on its shortness, but with the variety of gameplay presented here, not to mention some of the hair-pulling actions required in order to progress, I wouldn't categorize this as an abnormally abbreviated raid by any stretch of the imagination. There are five secrets scattered throughout the game map, and if you find them all you're rewarded with a powerful weapon to deal with the final enemy, but you should have accumulated enough hardware by then that you can easily finish with the conventional weapons. In preparing the written walk I decided against providing savegames at the rough spots, concluding instead that advance warning would be sufficient for most players. Once you know what has to be done, the actual execution is not overly burdensome. Some of the highlights are (1) a fairly tight timed run to acquire the second secret, (2) a timed swim that poses drowning concerns if you choose to go for the fourth secret, (3) a rotating pole with two flameblowers that must be passed both coming and going, and (4) a room with spear fields that pop up and down in a manner that must be methodically anticipated and negotiated. The environs are tastefully rendered and well lighted, and ample flares are provided for those who may need them. In sum, a thoroughly enjoyable level." - Phil (14-Jan-2024)
"My difficulty rating for this level does not necessarily reflect the entirety of the level, as there are roughly the same amount of challenging sequences as easier ones but I would say it leans slightly towards the more challenging side of things. Anyway, moving on. It's always nice to have a builder return after so long, and doubly nice to see the BtB Greece assets used so this was a real treat. The textures are gorgeous throughout and the atmosphere well up to par. As previously mentioned, the gameplay does have some trickier sections which may put off some players (particularly the rotating flames and the spike field room), but they should take no more than a few tries and there's a few neat puzzles, timed runs and boss battles to keep things varied. Enough powerful weaponry is provided, but you are also rewarded with Zeus' Thunderbolt if you find all secrets. A very well executed raid." - Ryan (14-Jan-2024)
"It was a great adventure. A masterpiece. Not too easy, but not too difficult. The enemies are easier to overcome than they first appear. It can be completed without a medipack. Varied tasks, nice environment, great map design. A true TR adventure. I may be a bit biased, as the creator is a fellow countryman, but I give it the highest score. Especially, I recommend the Hungarian version, there are some interesting things in the secrets, which concerns the Hungarian TR community, because there are some great jokes from the events of the Hungarian TR meetings. :) A must for Hungarian fans. :) Hungarian walkthrough, savegames, and pictures: https://treditor.hu/trle/treditor/2024/greek_treasure_hunt.htm" - Obig (13-Jan-2024)
"A very nice and very modern, sophisticated level. It starts easy, but has some extremely tough challenges along the way.
  • It looks really great and immersive. In my opinion the lighting is slightly too dark in some places in the village, shouldn't it be very sunny? Maybe it's a bit over-decorated sometimes: too many jugs and vases Lara can shoot. There are multiple locations like the start village, the cave, and inside, which make this level visually refreshing.
  • It starts out simple and linear, then gets gradually harder and more complex.
  • Down the cave is the first tough challenge: a tight timed run including a very hard to get right jump. It turned out that this was only a secret, without a hint that it's optional.
  • The next very tough challenge is the fire wheel, which requires jumps with tight timing. It's rather unfair, because it's hard to tell when you actually collide with the fire and puts Lara on fire. I found it much harder than anything else in the level. It will probably be a game stopper for some players.
  • The spike puzzle is basically a timed run. Like with the fire wheel, it's a bit unfair because the tiniest collision with the spikes means death. I found this the second hardest part in the game.
  • Getting down the lava cave near the end is very tricky and requires tight timing of Lara's moves.
  • The end boss is easy but tedious and boring.
  • All other gameplay is balanced and good, with diverse challenges and puzzles.
Conclusion: very good level and definitely recommended. Maybe a bit short, and with some exceedingly hard challenges." - tuxraider (12-Jan-2024)
"Wonderful level from a builder with an excellent track record. Some beautifully picturesque locations, nice variations on puzzles and some neatly (but fairly) hidden secrets within them (I found all 5). BTW I was curious for more info about the Hungarian connections with each picture associated with the secret's location... The gameplay started off gently and ramped up to some tricky sequences with the Roman Numeral gates (in particular the spike/sword puzzle) and the final lava slide. However a little bit of thought and perseverance won through and gave a nice feeling of satisfaction when successfully completed. Enemies were fairly easily dispatched even with just the pistols (if Lara was positioned advantageously). Overall a great level and thoroughly recommended." - Adrian (11-Jan-2024)
"Im from Greece and i quite enjoyed this trle . Very attractive to my eyes like an island . Easygoing to be honest . 5/5 secrets . Nothing really confusing , progression is smooth here . Wp Matie , very solid level with nice details" - Petaludas (09-Jan-2024)
"I like Matie's levels and this one is no exception. It's been 3 years without playing tr and I fumbled with certain movements. I had the broken lever bug which disappeared, so had to restart a previous save. Nice level, well textured and lit, with some formidable enemies. I recovered some game automatisms, it's like swimming, you can't forget it lol. Congratulations Matie." - Drakan (09-Jan-2024)
"What an absolute pleasure this level is. The author displays a keen understanding of what makes a good Tomb Raider game, and puts it to good use. In fact, this work is so high- quality that if I was told it was an official TR4 expansion pack or bonus level, I'd believe it. The environments are absorbing, the puzzles and platforming are challenging without being obtuse, and everything from the musical cues to the secret placements is well-done. There's little to nothing to nitpick at in Greek Treasure Hunt. Hopefully the author continues to make great levels like these." - Spinnerweb (05-Jan-2024)
"Wow, I forgot how good the Greek package actually was, especially when being used skillfully. What starts like a casual raid turns into a task-heavy challenge in the second half. You'll enjoy every bit of your surroundings throughout the level, with the highlight being the huge waterfall&rocks area. About the tasks themselves...They are well-thought, but not always perfectly executed. The readme file mentions one particular part that will most likely be a game-stopper at least for some players. Matie tried to present it as fair and casual by providing the video clip, but it's obviously pixel-perfect one-in-a-twenty run. Wasn't it easier to just remove the spikes from the first square? Something similar (to the less degree) could be said for the slide sequence near the end. Yes, it looks spectacular, but it requires some trial&error. Apart from that, no complaints, everything else in enjoyable from start to finish. The special reward for getting all 5 secrets was nice and actually useful in battle, apart from just being a cool artifact. Great atmospheric effects throughout the level, although I felt one or two mysterious audio tracks were placed in regular task-less areas. I won't take any points for that though, as all the other effects were amazing. All in all, if you get lucky with THAT spike run and THAT slide, you will enjoy 100% of the time. If not, you will still enjoy, but it will leave some scars..." - Tolle87 (02-Jan-2024)
"She just doesn't fail, every level brings good vibes. I remember testing it, then I forgot it existed, now I got a reminder. Finally a level which doesn't troll you at every step and lets you get immersed instead, also you don't get punished when playing too fast but you get guided and given second chances instead. Eventually, thank you for a level which won't take an entire 2024 to play, cause I've really had it - and this one is possible to take anytime, and so this first day of the year feels different already. GG." - DJ Full (01-Jan-2024)
"Great level , fun to play , beginning logically simple to get us in the mood , then after the village some challenges awaits Lara , some of the them requiring a few tries to get it right , the game still remaining not frustrating. The enemies of the small kind at first then some bigger ones later on and i am grateful they still don't take too long to vanquish. Stats : 1h20. Missed two of the five godess statuettes. Perfect looks and atmosphere and i love some of the beautiful musics here." - eRIC (01-Jan-2024)
