Reviewer's comments
"Not much of a level in itself but rather a fun way to reveal the winners of a competition. Fun, but also slightly odd as the four small-resolution pictures are actually hidden around the map, so I suspect whoever took part back then might have been slighly anxious about not only their odds at winning, but also at finding out whoever did. The town area in itself is also nice, although very empty. 5 minutes. 03/22" - Treeble (03-Apr-2022)
"Of course, look for several texture tiles in a very huge area was not very entertaining for me; at least the author could add a secret or some pickups when the player found that different texture tiles, or even more, some partial triggers to open an exit with a finish trigger, but this is not the case. Unremarkable." - Jose (24-Apr-2019)
"It is interesting to see that the idea for the outfit 'showcasing' would be used in the full Emergency! levelset, but aside from the curiosity factor, there's nothing much else to tempt here. You simply search for five painting textures around the rather rugged landscape, which, depending on your level of observation, could be done either really quickly or really slowly. In my case it took about 12 minutes because I overlooked the one on the roof, but there's really nothing else to do, so I doubt I'd be any worse off." - Ryan (29-Jul-2018)
"Aaaaahh, my head... I've just spent 40 minutes of my life driving around a crude cityscape, searching for pictures on the ground. I rather expected object models known from the full game and that they will be placed in the same room as they were there - wouldn't it be a better idea than to locate them in the unfinished Village level? Of course revisiting this one has that good side of resembling a weird dream, because you can of course recognize the grandma's house and the factory facade, yet "it's all a blur" like Lara possibly thought, memorizing the situation when her other memories didn't quite work. But this is how the game is now, while at the time of release it was meant to foreshadow the full version - and I really can't explain why it wasn't executed better, because it totally fails at trailing. Basically 90% of time spent here is wasted: due to outstanding repetitivity of the landscape I only found two of these pictures and the curious rocky structures pasted multiple times at the borders of the map made me reach the outworld zone more often than I attempted to search for anything intentionally playable. In the end Michael's walkthru revealed what was in front of my nose all the time. SUMMARY: Works better if played after the full Emergency than before." - DJ Full (25-Jan-2016)
"While I'm sure that this level would have satisfied said contestants of this competition from years gone by, it doesn't really do enough to entertain the average player in this day and age, and much like 'TRSearch HQ- Birthday Edition', falls into the same exact trap of gradually growing boring over time, as you find yourself tediously searching this well-designed albeit considerably empty environment, for those cursed winner tiles alluded to in the main description for this release. Unfortunately however, I simply lacked the patience to do such a task and quickly moved onto the next level on my personal review list shortly afterwards. Ah well, at least the builder managed to find a proper use for this map in the main TRSearch HQ! Emergency levelset. So at the very least, this wasn't a total waste." - Ceamonks890 (17-Dec-2014)
"I guess this level might've been quite a ride for the winners of said competition, but for anyone else this really feels like a torture to explore this huge area only for four textures. Anyway, the setting is quite fine looking and quite believable, and a jeep ride is never really a bad thing, even if it really only helps you to get quicker through the area. A few more sounds and a few more lighting efforts would've made this level more pleasing, but as the map was tweaked and put into the Emergency! game three years later, at least something great has been made out of it. 5 minutes." - manarch2 (11-Jul-2014)
"I loaded this one up expecting a quick and desultory raid (I've played nine levels in 6 days..I needed a rest),and instead found myself spending 40 minutes searching for the four small picture tiles.Three were easy enough, but the fourth completely eluded me in such a vast area - although,to be fair, hiding three of the four among the perimeter rock walls of the playing area was a little unimaginative;especially as there were numerous buildings scattered around the interior, some of which should have been explorable (but weren't) had this level been assembled with a little more care. There's nothing else to do,and no attempt has been made to add a little finesse to the proceedings with boring stuff like lighting, objects (aside from the little car),a few puzzles and decent texturing (there were glaring missing sections). Nonetheless,I was kept searching for quite a long time;so I suppose the level served its purpose." - Orbit Dream (27-Jul-2012)
"I never could play this and although there is a TR4, there isn't a script.dat. But I managed to do what says in the readme and finally saw what this level was all about. The premise Lara is on is huge, but very well build. Finding crawlspaces so you can look for tiles with costumes on is the only thing you have to do." - Gerty (15-Mar-2011)
"This is of course not a real level. And it's of course quite dull to drive with the Jeep through the area after a few minutes, because one has seen fast everything. And of course it is dull, almost playing without a sound. But it has at least one advantage. One can compare very well this level to the final result in TR Search HQ-Emergency. Then one ascertains fast how much work was put in the finished level. It seems in such a way as if one would have gone on a time trip into the past. Nevertheless, in this connection, and only in this connection, is this level very interesting." - Scottie (23-May-2009)
"While far from mind-blowing this is actually an interesting level to play even if only to see where the same levels for the TR Search HQ - Emergency! stemmed from. Other than that it's a very uneventful raid in a huge village setting that is empty for most part and even a pain to traverse despite having a jeep at your disposal. While I can understand what this little projects purpose was, I find it hard to imagine who would actually be out there looking for who the winners are in such a setting, bar the participants themselves maybe. And considering you even have to compile your own script to play this, I can see how this wouldn't be on top of the 'to play' list, but I guess it served its purpose at the time it was released." - eTux (13-Jul-2008)
"I don't really know what to give this level... authough great atmosphere it could be deeply improved, the rocks, and buildings look welcoming, along with the river, but the Fences really ruin it, i had great fun finding the outfit winnders, well done." - ColeMoles (26-Aug-2006)
"I wish I could rate this level higher as it's a great idea, but as for 'gameplay/puzzle' and 'enemies/objets/secrets' that's all I can give. The atmosphere is very pretty. I like the bridges, fences, street. The environment is nicely done but as the category is called 'atmosphere/sound and cameras' the scores for sound and camera do count as well. I'm missing the sound as well as the camera aspects. But the textures and lighting is well chosen though I wish the outfits would have been in a better quality as this is what it's all about. (I could even drive with the jeep along the canals, below the water surface through the bridges. Funny experiment.)" - Catherin (02-Aug-2006)
"This is an interesting way of presenting the winners of a competition. Instead of announcing the winners directly, the player would have to find four textures. I appreciated young Lara's outfit, the sky and the yellow jeep. Moreover, the town and the surrounding area are pretty well-built, but I have detected a few missing textures (if one is attentive to detail) that slightly mar the atmosphere. I also feel like the base didn't belong in this level." - Sakusha (05-Mar-2006)
"We are adventuring in the spread, maybe in a port-base. There are no enemies or hard challenges. The area is huge, and so are the lands outside the fence. This level is a kind of a demo. We have to find 4 pictures. Three of them are on rocks and one is on the roof of one of the houses. Anyway, the textures are beautiful, and I liked the yellow jeep too. Unfortunately there are no added sounds. Maybe there will be a continuation. It's a pity that we can't enter the buildings and everything is so extinct. You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version), savegames and pictures here: http://treditor.freeweb.hu/15/outfit_competition_results.htm" - Obig (02-Sep-2005)
Michiel had a nice idea here but it is executed badly. Presenting the winners of an outfit competition in a level is cool as such, but when doing so, it should be a level built with more care and the respective outfits should be presented in a better way than a low quality 64x64 texture tile in my opinion. Anyway, worth a look for Lara's nice outfit, a beautiful sky and for an endless drive with the fun yellow jeep as there is no finish trigger. - Michael (20-Jun-2005)
"It's an incomplete level so I can't rate it properly, I tried though. Your goal is to find the four winning outfits and I only found three but I wonder what was behind those fences. The areas to cover are vast, even with the beautiful jeep it's not very pleasant. I do hope the final level will have some puzzles and enemies and Michiel decides to cut some of the huge areas." - Kristina (31-May-2005)
"This really is not a level, all there is to do is find four pictures of Lara in different new outfits around a huge town. A jeep is added to get around but as you have to get in and out of it constantly to check the surrounding rocks I preferred to flycheat. Check it out for the nice town and the piccies but don't expect a real game." - Sash (26-May-2005)
"Lara, or a 12 years old imposter, is searching what looks like a warehouse complex, with little canals and bridges, fences, rock walls and a nice yellow jeep to get her around. She's looking for textures, which are pictures of the winning entries in an outfit competition. As the level is not finished I can't comment too much on textures etc., which I presume will be fixed before all the 'outfit entries' are in place. I did see the missing squares where some of them might go. That's about it!" - CC (18-May-2005)
