Reviewer's comments
"Here we are dropped into some underground icy caves and continue exploration through and into manmade structures, buildings and outside snowy areas and more caves. Gameplay starts off with simple tasks such as climbing, platforming and pushing blocks etc to find levers and items aiding us to open new areas until the last third of the level where it become a lot more interesting. The final part of the level consists of challenge trap rooms! Whether is swinging on poles or ropes above lava, trying to avoid deadly moving blades or balancing on tightropes while trying to narrowly avoid giant hammers it made a great change of pace! Oh and if that’s not enough action for ya then we have snow leopards, yetis, lizards and bats to do battle with. Overall after a slow start this snowy little adventure ultimately doesn’t disappoint and I appreciated the TRU vibes." - John (10-Sep-2024)
"Better than the prequel. Colors and transitions I missed there are here. Many collision issues but none game-breaking. Quite nice use of entities, including for cutscene work. The Barkhang twist was ambiguous to me, I like the Buddha turned into stone but at the same time it felt like a downgrade. The ending cuts too short, let me pick up the reward thingy." - DJ Full (16-Jul-2024)
"Always nice to play a linear level now and then (more of these would be preferable, honestly). I didn't care much for the new animations and some of the replaced sound effects sound very wrong, but what does matter is the level itself and it certainly looks pretty, using carefully applied high quality textures. Funnily enough there's no scripting done, which is odd considering how 'advanced' everything else feels... 25 minutes, 4 secrets. 03/23" - Treeble (12-Mar-2023)
"I definitely enjoyed part 2 more than part 1. The cutscenes are integrated more into the storyline with each one moving the story along (I loved the one with the cute little cat transforming into a fearsome lizard), Lara's new moves are utilised nicely along her path and there is still challenging but not frustrating gameplay. The "somersault-along- tightrope-through-hammers" manoeuvre makes an appearance once again. Recommended for anyone looking for a fast-paced yet fun adventure." - Ryan (06-Feb-2017)
"This level looks and feels amazing, from the chilling atmosphere to the awesome added animations. While there are less cutscenes than in part 1, they are part of the level this time, and set the tone just as well as in the first. There are more enemies in this one, and they are a welcomed addition. This builder has a strong grasp on how to effectively create an atmospheric environment that a player would be eager to explore. The only downsides are that the level itself is too linear for such exploration, and it ends prematurely and abruptly. Still, this is one level that I highly recommend for those wanting forty-five minutes of suspense and fun." - Xela (22-Jul-2013)
"There are several distinct parts to this level, a castle area with a market and houses, an underground cave area, and an indoor area with lava. The level seems a little rough around the edges, as most of the objects have no collision, and snow appears through solid rock. The main tasks include battling leopards, yetis and mutants, a lot of tests of Lara's acrobatic skills, this is done quite well with new animations, collecting a cross shaped key, opening the usual doors with jump switches etc. The puzzle elements are fairly weak with only pushable blocks where the squares are obvious. The level has a TR Underworld feel to it, but the sound used is mainly from TR4. Ending was abrupt. 1 hour completion time." - sonnyd83 (15-Dec-2012)
"This is indeed an ambitious level, which reveals the wish of the builder to leave an impression to the players. So we have a wide range of new moves for Lara, especially in climbing, and the best move I have ever seen so far in custom TR was a sommersault on the tightrope. That was indeed a big WOW moment for me. However, due to some glitches and downsides, the builder could not accomplish the task he wanted. The impression was seriosly deteriorated by some minor beginners' mistakes. For example, I fail to understand why a builder invest so much time and effort in Lara's animations and sounds, and fail to edit the script so that the names of the objects in Lara's inventory are not Load??? Editing the script is much simpler than editing of Lara's animations, and takes far less time. So why did not the builder spend 10 more minutes to edit the script? How can an Irish/Celtic Cross have the name Hand of Sirius? But despite of those glitches, the gameplay is nice and fluent and Lara's new moves are used to the full. There are some nice enemies scattered around, and the builder paid a lot of attention to them. I liked how nicely the enemies were triggered, so that you can kill them from a disance. Traps with burners and swinging poles are not so difficult, and the last room with traps (hammers and swinging ram) was really greatly designed and imagined. Secrets are well hidden but you can find them more or less easily. Sounds are remarkably good, and well applied, but due to lack of camera hints, this section has a significantly lower review mark. Lighting is decent but not so spectacular, and textures have some cracks, which I also fail to understand. When a builder invest so much time and effort to the design and beauty of the level, why then he does not pay attention to cracks? Anyway, this 20-30 minutes adventure was a real pleasure to play, and I am sure that PH can give us a Hall of Fame level in near future. Not very challenging, but hard enough, and definitely highly recommendable!" - Nina Croft (25-Jul-2011)
"I really liked this second part of the series much, and even better than the first. The level had an interesting story that reveals in-game, Lara then shoots all the monsters and finds a way to the gem. The gameplay was very challenging and I liked the different traps very much, however, once more, I wished more puzzles, there were a few, but quite small ones. The new moves were perfectly worked in this game and I liked the different enemies from TR 2, TR 3 and custom-made. The atmosphere was quite stunning and the setting was really good. Well done once more by this talented builder, I love his anti- classic style much and hope he will provide more in future!" - manarch2 (21-May-2011)
"Myths 2 is a beautifully designed level with about under 1 hour play time. Very nice rock and stone textures and lighting. Not much color but I rather like that in this type of setting. Lara wears all black and has some interesting moves and animations, although I think the sprint looks a little awkward. I also noticed a few really nice cut scenes, camera angles and objects I had not seen in other levels before. My only complaint is that the end came surprisingly fast and unexpected. Generally this is a very enjoyable level with nice visuals and a great atmosphere!" - Blue43 (18-Apr-2010)
"We begin the level in...oh, wait - *instantly blunders into icicle deathtrap and reloads*. We begin the level in a small cave, though it's not long before we make our way to an equally small village and learn more about the story from a particularly deranged-sounding lady. Not that Lara herself fares much better in the sound department, with an apparent ability to swap between "tough woman" and "prepubescent child" at will. Age concerns aside, the level is generally good as a whole, with decent gameplay and relatively enjoyable trap sequences that are sadly far too simple to warrant more positive acclaim. Visuals fare well, yet could have been spruced up somewhat in a number of areas. In terms of objects and enemies, they are placed well enough, however the former (along with the textures at times) seem to be from a couple too many cultures to create a consistent style, and are also occasionally missing collision or have poor lighting. The level in general is a tad short and easy, but entertaining enough while it lasts - which I'm sure is an adequate recommendation for a number of players." - Spike (02-Jul-2009)
"This adventure looks terrific from the first moment and sustains that impression right through to the final room.Objects are used thoughtfully, secrets are well placed and enemies are generally well chosen (although the slow-motion introduction to the leopard attack seemed overdone and designed simply to show off a technical talent).Lara's moves are fun and help to spice up what is otherwise a very conventional and linear gameplay, dependant entirely on running and jumping. This is fun for a while, but a few proper puzzles along the way would have added variety and hepled to make progression seem a little less predictable. As it stands, this is a fun and smoothly flowing little adventure, built with a fine technical aptitude (in this regard,cut-scenes are always welcome);but I was left, nonetheless, feeling slightly unchallenged." - Orbit Dream (15-May-2009)
"This was rather a nice adventure where Lara finds a book, a cross and don't forget the crowbar (in here a sword). The builder says it is an"old" level spruced up a bit. Don't let that fool you even if it is only just one level it is fun. Lots of climbing, ledges jumping emitters to avoid and a rope walk with the hammers to cope with. Be sure to save in different places, as sometimes what seems the right way, isn't. I still don't understand why Philips deems it necessary to remove the binoculars, as I like to use it to see around, special because of the darkness, to spot the ledges one has to jump. The flares are not suited for that. I also spotted the backroll from Geckokid and I didn't like it in his level so why should it be different in this level. The"kick the door in" move was hilarious. Sometimes it is better NOT to change every bloody move Lara makes though. Don't fix it when it is not broken is a good saying, in my opinion. What did bother me was the collision (or lack off) some objects have and also with the dead enemies, even when they are not there anymore. Couldn't get my hands on a small medipack that way. The"pick up an item move" is asynchronous and it looks weird. There were a few textures that could use some attention, but overall the atmosphere was good. The secrets are not that hard to find and the enemies are well placed." - Gerty (15-May-2009)
"Within the first minutes of play the atmosphere and details of the cold, snowy landscape suggests this will be a professional level. Near the beginning Lara can't reach a jump switch; but the cracks in the wall hint Lara must be able to make vertical jumps to a higher crack, and indeed she can. Also with Lara hanging, Alt+Down has her jump back with a twist. (New moves really should be in a read-me file.) They are used in fun ways throughout, though the hanging arm thrust to a higher crack is way too energetic. Lara has an encounter with a girl where we learn people are turning into monsters--perhaps those noisy yeti that are stamping about. Exploration follows, with a few pole swings thrown in for fun, one seeming to require a sharp curved jump. Lara needs to tightrope walk past smashing hammers, and again this requires a new move, a forward hand spring on a rope. A large idol is reminiscent of TR2 monastery, because the secret is in the same location (though this last secret doesn't register). The author's read-me says this is one of his older levels, but it looks polished. We get shots of falling bells, and of a dramatic leap of a snow leopard suspended in air. A recommended level." - dmdibl (13-May-2009)
"This level seemed a little less complicated, and a little less difficult, than Myths 1, but it still took me nearly an hour to complete with the assistance of Jose's excellent walkthrough. One drawback I've found with these NGLE levels is that they tend to be colorless and drab, and this one was no exception. Although the environs were imaginatively and tastefully done, I frequently had the impression that I was playing in black and white, and the gaming experience for me suffered as a result. Not the builder's fault, perhaps, but this is a flaw that should be corrected by those having the ability to tweak the NGLE engine. The level itself is fun to play, and you even get a reprise of that tightrope-nutcracker sequence near the end (I managed to get through much more easily this time). Hopefully there will be future installments in this series. Highly recommended." - Phil (10-May-2009)
"This was a really nice sequel to author's previous part of the series lasting about half an hour. This time settings consist of snowy, rocky areas and some castles that are all well crafted, textured and lit. The custom animations such as the rolling animation on a tight rope are also a very nice addition and spice up nicely the gameplay which is otherwise a bit repetitive lacking puzzles and tasks other than jumping tasks. There are as well some other surprising features for a player in this game like a bell which you have to drop to break a floor under it. In addition atmosphere is interesting throughout the game and it's intensified with appropriately used audio tracks. A thing which bothered me a little was an abrupt ending which felt a bit rushed and didn't contain any kind of highlight like a final enemy of something else. This however was a minor problem for me and basically this level is very fun and it's also suitable for every player including novices. Well done." - Samu (03-May-2009)
"Well, this had an interesting 'end of the world' as it's possible to get up on the roof and go over and around to the Moose and then beyond to slide down to where the open door awaits. I have a particular fondness for caves and a snowy atmosphere as it brings back memories and this one did not disappoint. Some tricky gameplay takes Lara over fire pits on swing poles, a rope and a tightrope with Hammers as an added fun attraction. Lara always looks good in black and this time it's the Lara with a wiggle - looks funny but appreciated by some, I'm sure. A few errors such as walking into walls and Lara headed in one direction only to go in a totally different direction but it does no real harm. Only five flares but more than enough medipack pickups. An abrupt ending left me wanting more as it's rather short but still a memorable raid. I almost forgot the girl and the bell, both well-done. Recommended for all." - Bene (27-Apr-2009)
"A very polished, well put together level. Nice progressive gameplay. Shows real time, attention and care has gone into every room. Nice use of cinematics to give a professional feel. Definately was left wanting more, let's hope there's a Myths Part3 :)" - TheStig (22-Apr-2009)
"A level with a very good aspect and easy to play with a fast and lineal gameplay. No difficult tasks, some nice animations, few pickups... I couldn't find any extra weapon, and the secrets are not difficult to find. The best for me was the good environment and the architecture. I missed the binoculars and some more flares (only five was very poor) and cameras.Good level anyway." - Jose (20-Apr-2009)
"Is that it ? It took me 30 minutes to finish this level which was quite a let down seeing as I really was enjoying it and thought it was decent. Despite the author saying this isn't his best, I thought this was one enjoyable stroll in well textured snowy mountains and ruins atop them. There are some really good animations which I liked (which is unusual of me since most of the times I really thought custom added animations felt buggy). However, the level plays really smoothly and is fun. Enemies are leopards, yetis and bats as well as weird looking monsters which will add abit to the challenge. The atmosphere was good with the snow falling and music sounds kicking in at appropriate moments. On the other hand, the tomb of Seth ambient sound felt out of place and lost the level a 9 in the atmosphere category that was so close to have. All in all, this is the third level by PH and its clearly seen we have a new decent builder in LE scene. Well done !" - Shady Croft (17-Apr-2009)
"A very enjoyable and actually rather linear 40 minute adventure in snow and caves. The overall look and feel is quite stunning and the added 'scenes' with the girl (for the story), the dropping bell, the cool slow motion tiger and the cute kitty 'transforming' give this a very professional touch and pull you into the storyline quite well. The new Lara moves are used well and the dragon secrets are cute (found only 3 of the 5). Enemies are tigers, the cat/lizard monsters and a few yetis. A bit odd to see a few objects missing collision and script errors, but those are minor gripes in an otherwise well rounded shorter adventure." - MichaelP (15-Apr-2009)
"Goodie, I was hoping for a continuation of this particular adventure. You will see from the readme that this level was made last year and the author states that it isn't as good as his more recent level, which may be true, but it's still a cracking, fast paced level that I enjoyed very much. Ice, snow, yetis, snow leopards, lizard creatures, five secrets (those quirky looking golden dragons that look more like hippos to me) and some fun, but not too difficult tasks to achieve in about 45 minutes of gameplay. Could I be greedy now and request a part 3, please?" - Jay (12-Apr-2009)
"I thought Myths Part 2 was a very nice effort for PH. I absolutely adored the new moves, as this adds a new dimension to what Lara can do and where she can go, if a bit unrealistic. The traps were nicely configured with the inclusion of the PH trademark tightrope walk and somesault through the giant hammers. My main disappointment was the length. The end was abrupt and unsatisfying, however that shouldn't deter anyone from playing this well-constructed level." - Shandroid (12-Apr-2009)
"Well i have again the pleasure to review first PH next level ..... well this one is much short than Wheels of Kathar and not so good this one is a snowy cave catacombs one with not so manny trapps and no timed runs at all in it .. i could say is more a relaxed level suited for all raiders .... enemyes not much some tigers / wolfs / and Yeti's task are easy not manny puzzles some jumps Rope walk with tricky jump between 2 hammers - this was the moust exciting part- and end very strange and abrupt at a room at wich u need to jump over a burning floor gapp with some burners at sides to avoid .... is a blue obiect over the gapp wich u cannot take cos adter u land at other side game ends at loading screen ..... well i feel this one like a rushed out unfinished project ....... all in all 30/40 min off fun .." - Jack& (11-Apr-2009)
"This was a great level. I thought that all the textures were well placed and the lighting was perfect. The atmospehere and the sounds joined together to make the level look and sound quite scary. I think for next time, the animations should be double checked; when lara is running her arm seems to jut up out of its socket. Overall 9.5/10" - herothing (11-Apr-2009)
