Reviewer's comments |
"I couldn't finish this level, but according to the walkthrough I was very near the end. For some reason, the trapdoor wasn't raised so there was no safe way to reach the bottom of the area or the exit tunnel. It's not exactly the most exciting level you'll ever play, although I'll admit the brief sequence dropping the boat to the water was fun. There are one or two jump sequences and three mazes, two being underwater and one in total darkness coupled with a timed run! Lovely. Textures almost seem like an afterthought. 25 minutes, 3 secrets. 11/19" - Treeble (10-Nov-2019) |

"There are two playable versions of the game: Without or with
secrets. Surely you want to play the one with secrets,
because it's a revised version of the level. Actually there
are only a few tiny differences, except for the labyrinth,
which turned into pure darkness. And some camera angles have
been added. The level itself was not exciting at all.
Especially the level design was very bare." - Nuri (04-Jun-2019) |

"There's nothing worse than running through a nasty maze and
there's a timed door, and you have to make a route to get
to it, and once you know how to get to it, you have to open
the door again and race for it before it closes. I reloaded
a lot in that part. I even found a secret key in that maze.
The only fun parts were the dive at the start, driving the
boat from the top of the tall structure to the water, and
some sliding and jumping sequences. Near the end I had very
few health and no medipacks, so I had to be careful with
the dogs and the fire. When you finish the level, textures
become buggy, but that happens with almost all TR3 levels.
By the way, textures are placed repetitively. So, there's
not a lot of fun here." - alan (26-Apr-2018) |

"Another level with a very simple architecture, missing textures and no interesting task except the very short ride with the boat. The worst was the unmarked monkeyswing and the unmarked ladders. The nasty underwater mazes and the final maze with the timed run were very boring too. At the end, near the bottom of the main pit, if you step in the right hand tile, the trapdoor opens and I think you can't finish. If you add the very huge surfaces textured with the same texture tile and the flat lighting you will know why I can't recommend this level." - Jose (11-Dec-2017) |

"There are a couple of fun jump sequences
and a brisk boat ride here, but the rest
of this level was not to my taste at all.
Two irritating mazes (on land and in
water), huge bland rooms, repetitive and
wallpapered textures and pitch dark areas.
Not really recommended." - Ryan (16-Aug-2017) |

"I don't like unnecessary effort and this map contains a lot of it. One could say it's just too big but I wouldn't like to see it smaller. One could say the mazes are too long but if they were shorter I wouldn't appreciate how much the RX blocks helped to orientate - all in all I wasn't totally lost, only close to it... But in the end it was just boring. The second level is an improved copy of the first one but with secrets included, the last maze and following shaft altered, and a fix applied to a ladder which was seriously unfair in the no-secret variant. Is it worth to play both parts to experience these differences? I did. I'm tired. I'm questioning my reason again." - DJ Full (02-Feb-2016) |

"Sorry but I've seen better levels made by novices even if this is made with the un-official editor. Paperthin walls, missing textures, invisible blocks and lets not speak of the nasty underwater maze. There is another maze to go through a bit later and that one is pitch black. Not to my taste at all." - Gerty (27-Feb-2015) |

"Playing through this level after recently going through the builder's previous 'Freezing Islands 2' series on the TR2 engine, I was taken aback by the sudden decrease in quality a mere two months after the builder's previous release.
While I can only guess that the TR3 engine works a little differently compared to TR2's(in regards to the developmental process), there's still absolutely no excuse for the generally uninspired level design, incredibly tedious and boring gameplay, wallpapered texturing, inconsistent lighting and overall amount of monotony involved.
Sure, the enemies do fit their surroundings perfectly and the boat was fun to utilize during the brief time you could actually use it, but that's only two pros amongst a sea of serious design flaws. So, simply not worth recommending to anyone." - Ceamonks890 (23-Sep-2014) |

"This is another of these levels where my review was long
overdue, as I played this before the time as a reviewer. I
now have covered more and more of those games, but here and
then I miss reviewing one of them. This Antarctic level is
one of the more annoying ones released here, with
unappropriate and wallpapered texturing and horrible
gameplay, sorry to say so. Dark maze-like areas are simple
unnecessary and gameplay killers in not only my opinion, and
the builder really enjoys putting a timed run in it and
leaving the players with 20 or more attempts to run
headlessly through the maze. Else than that, there is little
use of a boat and the usual lever and key search and some
standard enemies to kill, I rather am surprised while
playing such levels when builders actually care about the
enemies that fit to the setting and do not use Shivas. Here,
the builder cared. But that was one point where one cannot
critizise, in contrast to many, many negative points. Not
recommended." - manarch2 (01-Jan-2012) |

"An Artcic adventure. Before you climp up to the column, don't forget to open the door. Fortunately we can change the gamma in TR3, because we almos can't see anything without a little light. It was a bit tiresome. :)" - Obig (30-May-2010) |

"A 30 minute adventure which has two main features: an underwater maze and a another pitch black maze! Talk about combining pet hates of mine. Even the boat did not make up for this misery, as you essentially don't really use it much and the timed run in the dark maze took just a few too many tries to still be fun. Not really recommended." - MichaelP (24-May-2010) |

"This doesn't have the inventive challenges of many of the author's other levels. Lara does get to bounce the Antarctic Zodiac boat down columns from a height into water. There are underwater mazes which aren't my favorite. More slope jumps are good. Then there is a complex dark maze. The author has used this before, where Lara's flare burns down about two-thirds through the run, and while she is stumbling along in the dark, lighting a second flare, the timer for the door is about to expire. I simply couldn't manage to explore this with the meager flares provided, so had to give Lara dozens of extra flares. After this it is back to an enormous room from the beginning, and here the textures can't decide whether they want to be snowy or metallic or what, so everything looks terrible (changes with each reload), plus the ground is shaking, jumping on screen. Lara can't get out of this fast enough. Not the author's best." - dmdibl (17-Apr-2010) |

"This starts off in pleasing fashion, with a really high dive and, after a bit of climbing and a short speedboat ride, you can kill a few dogs/guards and go for a swim. Unfortunately, shortly thereafter there is a maze, which is never my idea of fun, but on the plus side the level does contain a couple of timed runs and a bit of easy but fun sliding and bouncing." - Jay (01-Oct-2009) |

"There isn't much more to say what hasn't already been said by the previous reviewer. The level seems to be built within an hour or two, it is just badly textured, tapestry-like and some textures even missing. Mazes are many and they are huge, and the wavering walls are dreadful and ugly to look at. And again I wonder why weapons are given to players at the end of a level when there are no enemies any more. Thankfully the desert eagly could be found earlier. The only highlight in this level was the boat which is always fun to drive." - Jerry (30-Sep-2009) |

"There is a small working motorboat in this level;and it's absolutely adorable! Unfortunately, the rest of the adventure is either uninteresting or frustrating or both. While a couple of sliding jump sequences require a little diligence, the gameplay is otherwise all about running (or swimming) around large pitch-black mazes. This is not a particularly good idea at the best of times, but in this instance you have a huge maze, clothed in impenetrable darkness, which happens to contain a secret (a small key)as well as a tight timed lever to a far-away door on the other side of the labyrinth.I ignored the secret entirely,as searching for a small key in a huge dark maze seemed merely to be prolonguing the agony.
Textures are wallpaper'd everywhere;all the rooms are boxy and bland, while lighting is either completely non-existent or consists of heaps of shadow bulbs in small (complicated)passages. There are apparently six secrets within this level, which indicates a degree of creativity;but this is really only worth playing for the motorboat. No bad thing,as you get to use it twice!" - Orbit Dream (29-Sep-2009) |
