Reviewer's comments |
"A raid through a 'Great Wall' style level. The adventure actually takes place in a ravine as
you explore a miniature fort. The author has put some effort into attempting to make uneven
terrain in the outside part of the level, but sadly the limited TR2 engine doesn't support
something that fancy, so there's plenty of clipping when Lara or the enemies walk over it.
Textures are mostly good, but there's a few areas in which they are randomly flipped which
clashes with the existing ones. The outside area seems intimidating, but it's mostly empty
aside from the mandatory ways to go. Some secrets or items could have been nice. Once you're
inside, the level becomes a lot more linear. Beware of the lava room as you can get
softlocked if you don't immediately put the block on the requisite pressure pad. I have made
this mistake thinking I can simply go back, but the author has put unmarked death tiles
around the room which I didn't know until it was far too late. Unfortunately the quality of
the level drops pretty hard near the end. You will notice large lazily textured rooms and
general lack of polish when it comes to progression. A slightly below average level I would
only recommend to completionists by the end of the day." - LuxQSD (24-May-2022) |

"Relatively lengthy Tomb Raider 2 level that suffers from the usual paper thin walls and texture fade outs but in and of itself is not a bad level. You are on the hunt for numerous keys and there a a couple of devious traps you need to reconnoiter as well as a lava room where seemingly "safe" tiles are exactly the opposite. This room takes trial and error and unmarked fire tiles are one of my pet peeves. Enemies are crows, tigers and those pesky spiders." - Torry (29-Nov-2019) |

"Certainly there are some things I didn't like: the phantom underwater wall, the unmarked fiery tiles in the lava room or the unmarked climbable wall in the room with the timed trapdoor; but usually this level was entertaining and enjoyable for me, even when there are not great puzzles and you'll find here all the classic tasks and traps, like the rolling balls, the blades, dragging blocks, rolling wheels... A pain that the author didn't place some objects to ornate the rooms and take a bit care with musics or flybys to create atmosphere. Take a try, you'll not regret." - Jose (30-Jan-2018) |

"This is the first "meaty" TR2 level I come across in this new journey through the world of custom TR2 levels and the one thing that comes to mind is that it's too long. Huge, boxy rooms with careless geometry and texturing as you find yourself roaming back and forth worrying that you might have missed one key somewhere. There are a few pushblocks scattered around which give you leverage to the top of the "wall" structures, but be wary that's not exactly what you want to do. By the time I got to the underwater room with the swim-through passage I was bored, only to learn it was just about halfway through. A handful keys later and you are finally free to zipline your way home. 35 minutes. 04/17" - Treeble (29-Apr-2017) |

"The textures and lighting were nothing
more than average in this short TR2 level.
The main saving grace here was the
gameplay. A few traps to avoid(blades,
rolling blades and spiked walls), a fun
slope jump sequence that took some doing
and a few enemies to avoid. If you aren't
bothered about the setting, then give it a
go." - Ryan (22-May-2016) |

"Another wall...I would like to say another useless wall, in my debut I did make a remake of the great wall, with the same problems, bad textures, bad lighting etc etc... But this level has no musics (you need tr2 CD) as in every TR2 level... I don't really understand why builders use TR2 engine, for this kind of level, a TR2 feeling? No this is a fail, there is no feeling except if you would consider the emptiness of the level as a feeling. I put a five for the gameplay, even if it was basic and no interesting due to the TR2 engine I suppose... everything in the level was bad, textures, lighting(TR2 lights are ugly for me...) no real cameras except to show a door opening.. it was not good at all. I found something quite strange, for triangular floor relief lara was walking as on a flat floor, like the geometry of the room has been changed with a 3D software like meta2tr. I don't think the builder used it... I don't recommand this level, except maybe for the bunch of hard TR2 fans..." - Lara_Fox_Croft (31-Aug-2015) |

"This level wasn't that surprising like others. A short 20
minutes run with some enemies and traps... The whole level
seemed to be some kind of lifeless and thats mostly the
reason, why I didn't enjoy this level." - Nuri (25-Aug-2015) |

"I'll be honest. While the gameplay and trap/enemy choices aren't too shabby and ultimately managed to succeed at keeping me on my guard throughout the initial playthrough, the rest of the overarching design doesn't hold up quite as well, with some rather uninspired texturing, flat lighting and some completely lifeless and barren environments to traverse through(with a huge lack of decorative objects only helping to compound this last problem further and unfortunately, leads to a considerable lack of atmosphere on the whole.)
Still, if you're willing to tolerate all these issues and just focus on the gameplay itself, there might be a decent level worth salvaging underneath this somewhat average experience for you. Though if you happen to not be one of those players that I just mentioned however, you're probably better off downloading something else, if you desire more from a custom level in terms of overall presentation beyond just simple gameplay." - Ceamonks890 (26-Aug-2014) |

"To be honest i enjoyed this level more than i expected. The creator did a good job with the traps, puzzles etc. The beginning of the level didn't look too promising, but as i made progress it got alot better. The level is not too long either, i didn't get bored at all as the gameplay is the best thing about this level. One bad thing with this level was the lava section where you can see safe spots to stand on but you will be set on fire by it anyway.
To sum things up its an enjoyable level with decent textures and good enemy placement. Recommended" - totizedger (18-Jun-2013) |

"I rather liked this little romp. There was enough action to keep you on your toes and luckily not too much so you also can explore without looking all the time over your shoulder. Finding a couple of keys, that is your goal. There are traps and enemies were nicely placed. A splendid little adventure for in between." - Gerty (27-Sep-2012) |

"Given the course that is perhaps too much straightforward , the level duration is exactly right , i.e not too long , as it is hard to make of a straightforward level a during immersive adventure. The builder manages well the different traps found here , with the plinth blades alleys , the movable spiked walls halls , the sloped corridors with boulders , and the deadly rotating wheels, all these challenges being not very hard but quite fun for the player. The highlight could have been the lava room with the jumps to perform, but the fun here was spoiled a bit by the fact that some rocks (including one pillar of which the height is quite above the lava surface) were not safe. The looks could have been better given the average texturing. I like the textures of the library with the wheels at the end. All things considered , a TR2 level that I recommend." - eRIC (17-Sep-2012) |

"To sum up this 25 minute level - the best thing about it is that the builder knows how to not bore players off during the play. The gameplay is pretty varied and interesting enough to fill each minute of this level, and I never found myself to be heavily stuck (but there were one or two possibilities - a walkthrough wall and a pretty well blending in wall switch). I liked the careful usage of traps, pushable puzzles and enemies which helped to create a solid and decent experience, but in general the gameplay wasn't very thrilling or gripping due to the strong linearity. Also, the builder didn't too much care for a good look of the setting as the texturing at the start was pretty crude with the floor texturing and several missing textures high up (as it's also easily possible to climb up on those walls) and on the square where a key is hidden you can jump up to the ceiling of the map which wasn't very realistic. The lava room had many wrongly animated lava tiles and there were several seemingly safe tiles that turned out to be deadly in fact. Still, I liked the library textures near the end of the level reminding me a lot on "Cape Fear" and the pushable block puzzle in there was quite well set up. So all in all I recommend you to try out this level mostly for the gameplay. The level ended very abruptly after a zip line ride in the middle of a large room, but maybe just at the right time." - manarch2 (01-Sep-2012) |

"At the beginning the grey stones are troubled. But I liked this level. Sometimes I stayed and searched the way, I haven't found the thunnel on the water fist time. :) Not a hard level, I can suggest for everyone, who like the TR2 levels. Don't want much about the textures, it's old level." - Obig (29-May-2010) |

"I got much more than I had expected from this level, which keeps a decent pace for the 30 minutes it lasts and offers a good mix of switches, enemies (tigers, spiders, crows) and traps. I did especially like the rolling blades and moving spike walls. There is also good use of some push blocks, an interesting lava room and a few times I did get stuck for a little while before figuring out my next move. The setting overall is not too elaborate but still solid enough given the age of the level and the engine used. So, all in all, you could really do much worse, so give it a try!" - MichaelP (19-Mar-2010) |

"It's a shame that the texturing and lighting is rather bland, because there's a rather good level in here struggling to get out.Despite a somewhat unfair 'trial-and-error' flame room, the gameplay is absolutely solid and occasionally inventive.I particularly liked the moving-wall traps, and the 'four rolling-blades' room was quite ingenious and needed a proper strategy from the player in order to succeed.Everything's linear, but that's to an advantage in a level such as this, where each area is at least twice as large as it actually needs to be.Enemies attack frequently (the first Tiger took me quite by surprise!)and, along with the multitude of traps and a repeated use of a zip line, keep things moving along quite enjoyably. There's little atmosphere to speak of;the looks, while competant enough, are nothing to write home about - but the playability factor is prominant, and that in itself makes this un-assuming level worth a try." - Orbit Dream (13-Mar-2010) |

"The beginner opening has an expanse of jumbled slopes, and a few pickups, an area so meaningless as to be disturbing. Lara gets to a big dark water room and somewhere there is a swim-through texture. Onwards to a big lava room, with an exit in the far corner. Lara catches fire on all the ordinary pillars, but notices there are also pillars against the end wall, so backtracked, headed toward that wall, found random safe pillars, made a jump to exit. Then there is an enormous room with a zip line. I liked the room with the four roller blades, one against each wall, with a key in one corner, and a keyhole in the other. It looks impossible, but it can be done, which is good. And the following push block puzzle was well done, though the next room has terrible texturing. Lara uses the zip line again, uses key, takes another zip line and the level ends. The author's later levels are good." - dmdibl (22-Feb-2010) |
