Reviewer's comments |
"Funnily enough, this release was less irritating for me, at least by this builders
standards. Lara looking sexy in her bikini, although a little unsuitable for the occasion
and the location and gets to explore around some ice caves, avoiding a few spike, dart and
boulder traps. That is the business-as-usual part. The most irritating element is a way-too-
lengthy block to be pushed (back and forth even). And about the code to be deceiphered to
give you some direction for the long swim through the underwater maze, I am a bit on the
fence. On the one hand it is a cleverly designed puzzle of sorts. On the other hand, my
guess is most players may not even bother, check out the video walk and just swim through
accordingly. A solid adventure of 30-45 minutes, depending on how much you try to figure out
yourself vs getting help on the web." - MichaelP (18-Mar-2024) |

"Another level by Drobridski sprinkled with political satire, with walls plastered with pictures of some people. Lara's wearing a bikini and fights some half-naked Donald Trumps. I don't really know what to think of it, as it didn't seem to be that relevant to the gameplay. This level could have been taken straight from the beginning of TR1 without any of this nonsense and still be a really decent experience. Puzzles were cleverly made for the most part. Timed runs weren't too tight, boulder traps easily understandable and the dart launchers were conveniently placed as to be a flavourful warning more than an annoyance. I wonder why the level was separated into two parts, I guess the author ran into limits from the TR1 Engine. This level isn't without merits and can be recommended to anyone looking for more to play, but without it being a first choice." - TimJ (22-Jul-2022) |

"Another odd entry from this author. The story blurb is once again as nonsensical as the
entire premise of the level(s). Lara is exploring ancient ice caves in search of artifacts
left by primates who got fed up with capitalism and started a communist village underground.
The levels are adequately textured and have decent camera work and lighting. It's well
designed enough that you won't be struggling to find out where to go for the most part.
There is a big focus on puzzles and trap rooms, which feature some unique solutions to them,
to say the least. You will be tasked with deciphering a new alphabet to gain clues which are
useful for completing a massive underwater maze. Though even with the clues I struggled to
get past it due to the verticality of the place. You will also see a lot of custom or
altered textures along with custom soundtracks which fit the primal theme the author seemed
to be going for, which does oddly enough boost up the atmosphere. The walls are once again
randomly plastered with images of random fictional characters as well. Definitely an
improvement from Drobridski's earlier work though as there is a lot more effort put into
optimizing and altering the map in creative ways. Give it a play if you're up for some wacky
fun." - LuxQSD (27-Mar-2022) |

"That's a pretty good level with a lot of unique stuff as it is usual by this author.
Gameplay is very polished and constructed as it should be. There are some hard
moments like for example tight timed run which can make less experienced players
struggle a lot. Underwater maze can be confusing without knowing some hints before,
so it is better to explore areas of first level to find those hints. Enemies are
rather balanced, and placement is good, I personally did not have any problems with
them. Also, some of them have nice-looking customization with even modified sounds
which is not common in TR1 levels. Usage of objects is very good and good looking;
the author take care about those details to make this level looks polished as much as
possible. Secrets have good hide spots with a nice reward after finding them. The
atmosphere is good I must say the whole environment is work on favour for this level.
As I said earlier there are some nice, modified sounds for enemies. Overall, I didn't
find any missing or wrong pitched sounds, everything is polished. There is good
number of hints and cameras are placed properly and show what they should show. I
think players shouldn't get lost that easily. The textures are placed properly,
despite that some of them are does not fit to the individual slope because of editor
limitation, I think the author still did a great job with this. The lighting is very,
very good despite some limitations as well. There are good tries to avoid any cracks
or bad lighting transition. Overall, I think this is a great level but not for
everyone. Recommended." - Mahetus (23-May-2021) |

"Only 5 reviews from August 31? I can understand now. Before this one, I played Folklorist Diary demo, and after that good taste, this one was... The first level was full of nasty and dangerous tasks, and after a long time decrypting the code, it finally was not useful to cross the nasty underwater maze at the end of the level. The second level was a bit better, but the gameplay was very confusing even with the hints and I was forced to read the walkthrough. Not a levels to get a pleasant time, but only for expert players." - Jose (05-Nov-2020) |

"This makes a lot of sense. Nicely connected levels with chaptered plot, flawless balance of pickups and anti-confusion touches which didn't have to be here but were. As for graphics, I was forgetting it's TR1 engine until I jumped or swam. Probably the most polished level of this builder and I really hope he soon does the leap to the top, because he deserved more than he gets." - DJ Full (25-Oct-2020) |

"In any regard a step upwards in the evilution (sic!) of the builder, with a few decent gameplay ideas realised here such as a quirky boulder run, some pushables (one back and forth sequence is a bit too long though), some timed runs and traps - all in all enjoyable as it is diverse and entertaining for the time it lasts, despite never being actually great. I could only imprison the croc by luck in the second level as it always wanted to swim back into the first room, but after ten or so tries it worked. The underwater maze with a hint was rather nice - better don't tackle it without as it is really huge. Enemies are not that hard to finish especially with the shotgun and/or uzis found and the secrets are also decently hidden. A few audio tracks are decently used and the looks of the cave areas and the interiors don't look too shabby. I liked that you can visit certain areas in the second level you saw in the first, generally the glimpses to other areas are a welcome addition. Overall a 25 minute game that shows some more of the builder's skills his odd first efforts managed to hide." - manarch2 (04-Oct-2020) |

"This is a solid Tomb Raider 1 level but does get frustrating at times. The puzzles are quirky and take some thought and the underwater maze at the end of level one had me reloading time and time again and I only figured it out through dumb luck. Yes, there is a clue but I missed it on the first run through (yes, I played that multiple times trying to figure out why some doors remained closed only to come back to them in the second level). The timed runs are tight but any seasoned raider will be able to get these after a try or two. My only real complaint was Lara's outfit. Good grief." - Torry (23-Sep-2020) |

"This is a level split into two parts, in typical TR1 fashion in the sense that the second half reuses some of the rooms you've been to but with some of the paths blocked off. This author is quite quirky when it comes to his designs so you'll be right at home if you're familiar with his style, but I have to say I personally enjoyed translating the encoded messages on the walls (plus the customized enemies). There were some interesting ideas along the way, such as the underwater maze (yes) and a series of lever combinations towards the end, but on my first playthrough I left with a handful of doors closed and I'm eager to dive back in for walkthrough purposes. 50 minutes, 2 secrets. 09/20" - Treeble (20-Sep-2020) |

"I'm not entirely sure what I was expecting
when I loaded this level up, but it was
actually more enjoyable than I anticipated.
The TR1 graphics are a bit crude and clunky
by today's standards and there were a few
mismatched sounds for the enemies (they may
have sounded intentionally comical), but the
gameplay contains a few decent highlights,
particularly the lever puzzle, the timed
runs and the centerpiece code deciphering
puzzle (which doesn't really have any
bearing on the progression of the level, but
was a fun addition nonetheless). The trap
sequences were also quite nicely constructed
and pitched at just the optimal difficulty
not to get frustrating. Not an extraordinary
level, but it definitely has its moments and
is Drobridski's most mature effort so far." - Ryan (20-Sep-2020) |
