Reviewer's comments
"Final but not finished - I guess alan just likes it this way: drafty, quick and enjoyable, also if you obsess over secrets. Recommended." - DJ Full (24-Sep-2022)
"I had already downloaded and started to play this one before I realized it was a TR2 release. I held my nose and plowed on ahead, buoyed by the comforting assistance of José's typically thorough walkthrough. The graphics were excruciating, as one might expect, but I found the game growing on me as I progressed through the four distinctive levels. The first two were little more than child's play, but things started to become interesting in the third level (called Hell House, appropriately enough). But it's in the last level (China in Ruins) that the builder finally hit his stride. The traps here were quite difficult to negotiate, and I had a devil of a time working my way to the Jade Dragon so I could claim all 12 secrets. The builder might have gotten more exposure (and reviews) if he had released this one as a standalone. Each level took me 30 to 40 minutes to complete, so you get a wealth of gameplay for a 24MB download. It's impossible to rate the game as easy or hard or something in between, because there's such a disparity between the levels. I would say 1 and 2 are easy, 3 is medium and 4 is challenging. I hardly ever get warm and fuzzy over TR2 releases, but this one is worth the time to download and play it." - Phil (04-Feb-2022)
"A TR2 level set that has its moments, but unfortunately comes across as rather underdone and amateurish. The visuals are a bit sloppily put together and the textures really needed more work (a lot of them tend to just be randomly plastered on), while the atmosphere is bland and the rooms mostly look rather empty and repetitive. The sounds also seemed corrupted somewhat as the secret sound kept looping while the ambience track was playing, which got annoying fast. The TR2 nostalgia is somewhat present, but it doesn't fully come through. The gameplay fares slightly better, although this isn't without problems either. I liked the various trap sequences and the secret quests were enjoyable to go through, but there's also quite a lot of backtracking and running through empty rooms, plus the invisible blocks hindered Lara's movements unnecessarily. Enemy attacks weren't bad, although the amount of supplies might make you think Armageddon is on its way. Not bad for what it is, but probably more for TR2 fans than anything else." - Ryan (22-Dec-2021)
"Not bad this adventure, but full of all kind of defects a builder must avoid: the invisible blocks in front of the doors, the low sky ceilings, the situations where you can't continue playing and have to reload, etc. The architecture is usually simple, bad applied textures in small surfaces, flat lighting, excessive pickups, few cameras and musics... The best, the location of the secrets and the old TR2 taste. Even if it's not an excellent creation, you can take a try; there are some enjoyable situations." - Jose (21-Dec-2021)
"This is a set of four relatively short TR2 levels, and I'll start by commenting on the visuals which could use a lot of work; the textures are constantly wallpapered, the lighting doesn't do anything (except a couple of rooms being randomly dark), and the environment is basically one box of a room after another. There are also some poorly marked death tiles. However I will give props for most of the switches using camera cues. The gameplay is a stronger aspect overall, but it is still a mixed bag, so I'll start with the low points. The biggest issue is the softlocks, of which there are at least two. One is that if Lara uses a zipline before opening a certain door, she won't be able to get to the opened door because the zipline never resets itself. Another is if Lara goes for a certain secret in a spike pit after using collapsing floors, there is no way to get back to the main route. The combat is a bit awkward; the first level focuses on Lara recovering her pistols, but she gets so many other weapons with insane amounts of ammo that the pistols are rather useless by the time she reaches them. The ammo doesn't stop raining on Lara during the rest of the levelset, removing most of the tension from her encounters with enemies (which include several goons, dogs, tigers, and a pair of t-rexes). I'm not sure if this is a regular thing in TR2, but some enemies also managed to die on their own upon touching water. On the plus side, I enjoyed the trap sequences that appear in the second half of the adventure, and I also enjoyed grabbing the secrets, which required some rather challenging jumps to reach. I'm glad I gave this a look, but it's also hard to recommend with its current issues. For those going in, save in different slots often and be prepared to rollback to an earlier save when needed. 1 hour 47 minutes." - JesseG (18-Nov-2021)
"Lara's final adventure (of this builder?) is as amateurish as his previous ones, with almost no care put into the level design except of some later parts, just huge, wallpapered walls with little atmosphere to speak of and the usual dose of typical beginner mistakes the builder should definately be able to avoid by now (paper thin walls, a lot of misplaced objects, some wrong sounds, bad lighting, ...). The gameplay is also not as interesting as the builder's previous level with a lot of basic and simple stuff put in here as well as an overdose of levers (partially with backtracking), there are very few interesting puzzles or tasks, but a few more or less well designed traps - some of them are made more easy due to misplaced objects - and (rather easy) platforming parts. Getting the last secret can lead to a dead end if you step on the breakable tile before getting it. In the end that arrived after 4 levels and 1:05 hours, I was really happy to be done as there's simply not enough to do and see here to make this a worthwhile raid. Found all 12 secrets." - manarch2 (23-Oct-2021)
