Reviewer's comments
"While gameplay is on par with alan's previous releases, the visuals are somehow a step back. Nonetheless the tr2 defaults are almost impossible to ruin, so I enjoyed the secret hunt plus the ongoing mass murder. Everything else is skippable though." - DJ Full (01-Aug-2022)
"Mediocre (not without its moments, but not in any way outstanding) 90 minutes of rather fluent gameplay with some traps and a lot of pushable puzzles, embedded in large and lazily designed areas with very amateurish texturing. The enemies are rather well placed and the 12 secrets were quite well placed overall. On the other side, rooms are barely decorated so the feeling of looks being just functional with respect to the gameplay remains. It's all in all too shabby to be really enjoyable, despite some decent tasks here and there." - manarch2 (04-Apr-2022)
"Nearly two months after release my review is only the fourth one, which is rather a shame. To be sure, TR2 levels don't push my hot button because of the crude and grainy graphics, but this four-parter provides a decent variety of gameplay, and I may even be motivated to go back and play one or two of the entries in the recent Classic Engine competition. Each of the levels took just less than an hour for me to play, despite Mulf having paved the way for me with his insightful written walkthrough that got me past the occasional rough spot. The scores to date are a bit lower than I feel are justified, which may explain why more of us haven't played and reviewed the game, but it's certainly worth a look if you're still into TR2 levels." - Phil (18-Mar-2022)
"As much as I enjoy the TR2 gameplay mechanics, the primitive graphics do make it hard to enthuse too much about the visuals. This one unfortunately isn't particularly aesthetically pleasing. The rooms are often bare and very blandly textured and the whole wallpaper impression is a bit jarring to the eyes, while it was weird that the water didn't seem to resemble what it was at all. The atmosphere doesn't really immerse you either, despite the best efforts of the nostalgic TR2 audio files. On the plus side (aside from a bit of extraneous backtracking and repetitive climbing sections), the gameplay has its highlights in the form of block puzzles, enjoyable jumping sequences and exploration and I also enjoyed the combat, which is much more balanced than in the TR4 engine. A mixed bag of tricks overall, but probably not a bad choice for TR2 fans." - Ryan (15-Mar-2022)
"In these four levels, Lara explores a sunken ship similar to the Maria Doria levels from TR2. Right away the purely wallpapered and large boxy rooms didn't give a great visual impression, and it didn't get any better throughout the adventure, although I did appreciate the statue in the room where Lara finds the Seraph. Another consistent issue is switches sticking out of natural surfaces, which hurts immersion, although at least this time the switches are not too hard to see. My last complaint is the back and forth running that is required, particular in that one bathroom(?) area with the many doors and buttons. On the other hand I liked the pushable block puzzles, the oil can traps, and especially the combat which the TR2 engine excels at. Lara is eventually given her whole arsenal so it's nothing she can't handle. It's a levelset that may not "wow" players but it at least plays smoothly. 2 hours 1 minute." - JesseG (22-Feb-2022)
"Gameplay & Puzzles: They are not so hard, because usually puzzles consist of pulling lever, using keys and pushing block. Enemies, Objects & Secrets: Enemies are ok since they are typical from TR2, Secrets are ok, they are quite 'challenging' to find, well hidden but if you have a closer look you are able to find all of them. Objects are ok too. Atmosphere, Sound & Cameras: Atmosphere & Sound are good, but sometimes the sound is bugged, is repeated or missing for dying enemies or picking up secrets. Cameras are fine. Lightning & Textures: I don't understand the choice of doing a strage geometric places and building and why to repeat textures and using stretched one. I suggest you to do a more typical TR2 ambient room, not so large, with decent textures. Lightning seems fine, even if in some areas it is too dark but at least you have flares so you can see. In the end I was able to play this game and complete 100% and infact I did the complete video walkthrough with all items and secrets collected on my YT channel! 🙂" - Saki Croft (29-Jan-2022)
