Reviewer's comments
"Classic tomb raider level with textures and objects bringing back excellent memories because I really like the Egyptian style. Everything is perfect, beautiful texturing and lighting and the classic enemies, I liked seeing the harpies attack Lara's statue again. Congratulations Sylvain" - Drakan (13-Jan-2024)
"This is a two level set in a classic Tomb Raider 1 Egypt setting; there are some additions and new objects but it mostly sticks to that. It looks good and there are some impressive larger scale areas but I've seen better from Bigfoot's maps, and the lighting leans towards being a bit too flat here. While the texturing is consistently strong the sky not actually being a sky and just being a star texture was odd; maybe it's supposed to be a reference to TR1 doing the same thing, but it would look better as an actual sky.
The gameplay is relatively straightforward, but it's varied enough to stay interesting, along with some twists like having to find your guns in the initial section. In particular, the use of the "walk on water" feature is one of the best uses I've seen and actually does something new with it. The use of webs feels a bit odd when there are no Spiders, but their use as a puzzle/platforming element does fit. A good release and worth playing, although it feels a little simple after Bigfoot's previous releases, but I guess it might be intended as a bit of a palette cleanser after how large Tears and Scottish Countryside were." - Mman (22-Jul-2023)
"The best thing is the beauty of the settings and the textures, but The lighting is a bit bland. The gameplay (puzzles, combat and traps) are a bit basic and some require quite a bit of walking. However I really liked the riddle with the frozen water (the peak of this map). My note is a solid 8. Recommended." - requiemsoul (22-Nov-2022)
"Apart from the frequent running back and forth, this is a really well-done classic level. The focus is clearly on exploring the many rooms and puzzles. Some are tricky but they are always fair thanks to the hints, even the timeruns shouldn't cause any major problems. Weapons and ammo are rather sparse but sufficient for the enemies that sometimes cross your path. The double pistols have to be earned in the first level, a nice challenge. Besides the puzzles, I liked the atmosphere the best. Only the stars in the night sky had the "wallpaper effect" if you looked closely, there could have been more going on outdoors, plus I missed the TR1 mummies a bit with these textures. For my taste, the lighting could have been a bit bolder in terms of colors, but the textures are nice and colorful, I love that. A recommendable TRLE!" - vandit (20-Nov-2022)
"This review has been pretty tough for me to decide how to approach it but I've decided the fair way is to review what has been put in front of me. The gameplay is solid with lots of cleverly implemented puzzles and sequences. Enemy encounters while sparse are good. The levels look great and the atmosphere is good too! I have given straight ten's but that comes with a huge caveat. While the two levels I have been served up are stellar, I was left wanting a bit more. It felt like these were the first 2 levels in an adventure more grand in scale. I hope the builder revisits the trail of thought they had for this level set and maybe expands upon it some day. But would happily recommend this level set to anyone." - Feats (15-Nov-2022)
"I am of two minds over this level set. The first level I would rate at straight 10's. I found it delightful, intuitive and a joy to play and I only had to refer to the walk through once. Starting without any weapons always annoys me but I could see her trusty 45's on the ledge right there at the start and wasted a good five minutes trying to get them which of course wasn't possible. You had to find a rather circuitous route to get those pistols a little later in the level which I found to be a really neat idea. The second level however was, to me at least, a complete mind f**k. There was so much going on, so many avenues to traverse time and time and time again with the routes not being obvious I was forced to constantly refer to the walk through (thank you Saki Croft) as without that I would simply have given up. Why oh why make these things so complex? Textures were great and lighting fantastic. Never needed a flare once." - Torry (20-Oct-2022)
"Very well built level , I love Egypt levels and this is exactly what I like ! Textures, atmosphere, rooms were incredible composed. I really enjoyed playing this game, I replay it for all secrets again. I also like when there are a few enemies so I can focus on puzzles, jumping, looking around ... thanks for nice time !" - Lioness_86 (16-Oct-2022)
"Truly back to basics indeed, and refreshingly so, if that makes sense. This is another enjoyable top-tier offering from this talented builder, in a rather more classic environment. The visuals and atmosphere are an absolute joy to behold and pleasant to the eye, the TR4 music is used well to accentuate the aesthetics and the gameplay has a plentiful variety of puzzles, exploration and action sequences while remaining accessible to the average group 9f raiders. The hints to the various puzzles may be a tad explicit, but at least they give you enough of a chance to deduce what you have to do yourself. The secrets are a fun side quest to go for, and enemies generally aren't too frustrating to dispose of, as you get plenty of weaponry. Very nicely done indeed." - Ryan (13-Oct-2022)
"A pretty Egyptian two-parter by Bigfoot. The first part is more slow paced with rather standard, straight-forward gameplay, most secrets easy to find, a couple of impressive rooms but also many smaller ones built in a rather similar way. The outside areas are far more interesting with a more involving gameplay too. And then comes the second part with the real Bigfoot in action! Engaging, fast-paced gameplay and many really good puzzles. The highlights IMO are the three (generously) timed runs where you freeze the water and the run to kill the harpies that damage the Lara statue. Don't worry, plenty of medipacks are provided. Some of the secrets are also better hidden in this part. All in all, a good and very entertaining, low-stress adventure, suitable for players of all skill levels which is an achievement in itself. lol Recommended, of course :)" - billie2001 (10-Oct-2022)
"Any new Bigfoot release is treated as an Event by this community, and the two-parter presented here is no exception. The parts are roughly equal in duration, and each will take the better part of an hour for most players to complete. As usual, the lighting and environs are impeccable, which always enhances my playing experience. I had to think a bit before making a choice in the Difficulty category, but on balance I'd have to say that this would be an ideal game to place before a beginning player based on its visual amenities, the variety of tasks and the relative dearth of thinking and performing challenges. Having to perform a timed run from the same spot to reach four different areas was a brilliant touch that I've never before encountered in a custom level. For the most part the puzzle solutions were provided up front, but you won't hear me complaining about that. In sum, I wish we had lots more like this one." - Phil (09-Oct-2022)
"A relatively short and relatively easy game. I had fun playing it. Maybe the visuals are also on the simple side, but I liked how it looked and found it immersive enough. The gameplay felt easy to me. (Not a bad thing to me.) Time runs have a visible countdown and aren't too tight. Puzzles are fun and have useful hints. The enemies aren't too tough. One exception was the room with clone Lara - that felt pretty tough. Shooting the boxes at the start was also a bit cryptic, which I imagine could get a beginner player get stuck. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to climb the pyramid, I expected I would be able to do that." - tuxraider (08-Oct-2022)
"A set of two levels that are a nice blend of TR1 and TR4 Egyptian aesthetics. There are some areas with strong architecture including large, looming pyramids and a giant cat statue with a functional tongue bridge. The gameplay is solid and has all the essential raiding elements, with the strongest aspect being the puzzles. There is a mirror puzzle and a couple of floor tile puzzles, but my favorite is the water surface that temporarily turns solid, an interesting twist on a timed run. Another unique kind of "timed run" is the race to the harpies attacking Lara's double. Even with these little twists, the adventure is still pretty straightforward (I never felt the need to look at a walkthrough) and should be palatable most raiders. 1 hour 37 minutes." - JesseG (08-Oct-2022)
"I thoroughly enjoyed this level - such a pleasant experience. Had some challenges, but nothing too tough. Well-hidden secrets and nicely worked-out time runs. The puzzles were generally good too, even if the clues for some of them were a little to generously spoon- fed. Thanks to the builder for allowing backtracking at the end of a level to find those secrets missed on first pass. Eventually found all 10. The enemies were fairly easily disposed of - if you know their weaknesses and how to crouch. I do like the Egyptian/Cleo textures and they were placed to good effect here in some lovely (and to my eyes non-boring) locations. A recommended level for all abilities from an experienced and talented builder." - Adrian (07-Oct-2022)
"Easy first level. Second level harder for me. Otherwise, Sylvain was excellent as usual. Recommended." - Amethyste (07-Oct-2022)
"A faultless BtB, basically using Cleopal - and fun, what a feat! The clarity of the textures and settings, the player-friendliness, the nice atmosphere, I really don't care if Sylvain has already used some or all of the puzzles in one way or another, as my memory doesn't stretch that far (but I can tell the difference between this two parter and other levels by the same author), I actually enjoyed this fluid Egyptian adventure, and that's more than I can say for most levels who thrive less on balance and perfection, and more on almost absurd complexity and challenge. The best part may have been the timed runs, when the water froze. Finding the glasses was a neat near-final touch. What else can I add? Thank you so much for making Tomb Raider fun and beautiful." - Jorge22 (05-Oct-2022)
"A bit too rectangular outside and a bit boring after checking several rooms all built in the same fashion, but otherwise visually flawless. Has some new puzzles, but mostly copies gameplay from the author's earlier projects, so if you played them, you won't get stuck here and this level will be good to livestream without distractions. Recommended." - DJ Full (03-Oct-2022)
"Excellent adventure that mixes classic stuff (there is a few new textures and special effects at the end) with some of the new possibilities for gameplay and storytelling. I must say i had a very good time playing this game as it was intuitive all along, added to that some friendly camera views. Some parts of the 1st level reminded me of Locked in underworld, this level was quite pleasant already , in the second one there is more puzzles and enemies and good ideas, the fight with the harpies while they attack Lara's double was a good moment too. The rooms are generally large , harmoniously textured. Atmosphere and cameras are spot on and professionally done. Everything is well balanced in this very recommanded adventure. 1h58 and 4/10 secrets found." - eRIC (02-Oct-2022)
"A very nice game divided into two levels. There are many tasks to master, some timeruns after you have frozen the water, well hidden secrets and very nicely designed areas. The lighting is right in all areas and the background music is well used. Two door puzzles, are also very well done. The gameplay leaves nothing to be desired, you always know what to do, so even not quite experienced players will have no problems getting further. Thumbs up. Highly recommended." - nad (01-Oct-2022)
