Reviewer's comments
"Despite being rather ambitious for a debut and containing full-throttle, action-packed gameplay, I didn't really enjoy myself here. Treeble summed up my feelings about this game more eloquently than I ever could, so I won't elaborate too much. It's too unfair to the player throughout, with spiteful "gotcha!" traps seemingly around every corner, movements that require too much finesse to be enjoyable, nasty health- robbing falls, tedious swimming around looking for too well hidden openings or items (the shipwreck level) and a nasty softlock if you don't collect all keys before beginning a timed run (also in the last level). I actually found the timed run quite exhilarating otherwise, as you only need to time your jumps carefully. The slope jump sequences were fun too, but the textures do tend to hurt the eye, especially in the last level when they're detrimental to progress. There's potential here, but hopefully the builder tempers his urge to make things overly difficult for his next offering." - Ryan (02-Sep-2024)
"It's odd how every now and then a release seems to slip through the cracks and go relatively unnoticed for a while. I'm not sure whether it's the "Demo" moniker that's driven people away from even downloading the level, even though you actually get three full scale levels here, or if people are trying to play it and giving up along the way. I have to admit, I myself was tempted to, quite a few times actually, but in the interest of writing a walkthrough for trle.net I decided to push through. There's a general lack of player friendliness throughout here, even the opening manor level feels very awkward to play, as you don't expect to get yourself stuck in such a familiar setting and yet here we are. Make sure you save often and in different slots, but especially in the third and last level do not start the "timed" sequence after the elevator unless you have three copper keys in your backpack otherwise you're stuck for good (the softlock the single review to date mentions). Saving often will mitigate the constant frustration as every trap here feels like a sucker punch, instantly killing you at around every corner it seems. It's never telegraphed enough and it got rather tiresome. Then, level three I thought might have been the biggest offender of the set because it's one humongous underwater cave and you have some seemingly random levers and one copper key scattered around the area, but fortunately the remaining points of interest weren't as casually laid out there or easily missed. I mean, they obviously are otherwise the aforementioned softlock bit wouldn't be an issue, but the thing is that you're looking for tiny openings in a massive cave which has a very homogeneous blue look to it, the limited air supply makes it that more of a nuisance and the provided hints on the floor (barrels and lights) feel more like clutter than anything else. On the flip side I enjoyed the sped up animations. All in all these are solid levels which are perhaps a bit too rough on the edges, but a bit more polish and making things slightly more fair to the player might go a long way. Now, time to go back for a second run and write the walkthrough. 2h20min, 5 secrets. 08/24" - Treeble (25-Aug-2024)
"I happened to finish and I can confirm this is good. There's division into easier main game and harder secrets so you should be fine. Looks aren't the best but the other elements are correctly done. A softlock is possible as you can get to the circuit slots without all items and RIP game if so. I'd say a good demo, but if the visuals are more cared, the upcoming full form will be great." - DJ Full (02-May-2024)
