Reviewer's comments
"A set of interconnected levels that has really aged quite well. It is all very classic gameplay that flows along nicely. Initially in a Desert setting with mine shafts to explore, then inside in a catacomb-style environment, and finally into caves with some nice green and red coloring after all the brown and grey. Nothing too difficult to accomplish, and it tends to get a little repetitive and thus tedious along the way, especially in level 3 with the 4 pushables to be placed, which takes quite a bit of work. The 3 secrets in each of the initial 4 levels are a fun sidequest each time, and provide you with a secret ending for the golden crystal that you otherwise will not acquire. I liked the occasional special moments created by solid camera work and disliked the general maze-like feel of the progression at times, but overall, you cannot go wrong with this adventure and will have an enjoyable 2 hours or so while you roam through it." - MichaelP (14-Dec-2025)
"If Alphonse's "latest" releases are all bits of earlier building work, then this is the most enjoyable so far. It's competently constructed, although there's nothing out of the ordinary here in terms of gameplay or atmosphere. The environments are generally pleasing but also rather plain throughout, with the exception of the alien structures. Likewise, the gameplay is both engaging but rather pedestrian throughout, with some fun traps, block puzzles and combat sequences being interspersed with mundane platforming and fetch quests. However, a nice touch was being granted access to an alternate ending if you found all the Golden Rose secrets. Entertaining enough, I guess." - Ryan (15-Sep-2024)
"The commentary accompanying the video walk indicates that this recent release is years old and in fact was Alphonse's first building project. If that's the case, it's certainly a well done maiden effort, although in most respects I found it to be rather basic and straightforward in a traditional vein. And I disagree with its categorization as Alien/Space, as there's almost nothing of that nature on display here. The player is called upon to navigate four closely interconnected levels of moderate difficulty, although the corridor puzzle with the opening and closing doors in the third level (Crystal Puzzle) was thoroughly confusing and I never would have solved it in the absence of the video walk. There are 12 secrets that are relatively easy to find, and if you acquire all of them you're able to play an alternate ending to give you some extra gameplay if you're so inclined. Definitely not a classic, but an entertaining raid that took me nearly three hours to complete." - Phil (13-Sep-2024)
"Disliked
  • This adventure could have used a lot more camera cues or other visual feedback, for switches or pushable objects put in their proper place.
Neutral
  • There are some interesting visual moments (some of the lighting, crystalized architecture) but most of the time the visuals are on the simple side. Literally every man-made structure has a single wooden texture, and wallpapering appears in several other areas as well.
Liked
  • There are some nice pushable puzzles that will require using raising blocks or trapdoors to get the objects to the right places.
  • A variety of traps, such as boulders and blades, will pop up to try to take down Lara, but nothing that's very difficult to dodge.
  • A bull, a hammer god, and some horsemen are among the enemies Lara will face - and one knight which seems to have interesting tweaks to make it a tougher combat. That giant serpant monster is even lurking in a secret area.
Time: 2 hours 14 minutes | Difficulty: Medium | Rating: 7.25/10 - Good" - JesseG (27-Aug-2024)
"I played this 4-5 years ago, but I still remember it very well, which does say something about the level. It has the looks of an old level but it's still pleasing to the eye in most areas. Exploration is strong but lighting is on the flat side in many instances. My ending save says 3:30 hrs and all secrets. Enjoyable, thus recommended." - billie2001 (21-Jul-2024)
"An atmospheric levelset for advanced players. Mixed of original assets and subtle yet accurate customization. Innovative in interesting and boring way, e.g. animating the crystal knights vs dat part with flames and pushblocks, omg... Secrets are rewarding here. The weakest point is the larger this builder builds, the less lighting he applies (sometimes just the room ambience, really not enough) so immersion doesn't really reward gaming effort here. Also we get a ton of identical wood but I won't be a plank and I'll recommend this game for exploration and plot moments." - DJ Full (17-Jul-2024)
