Reviewer's comments
"The builder had a grand vision, but he soon realised that his project was going nowhere, and so graciously left it for others to complete. It's useless, though, because you can't simply raise masses of blocks and hope to end up with a playable level somehow; the approach is all wrong. This is clearly the reason why the project was discontinued in the first place. The fact that a flurry of Titanic levels failed to materialise in the wake of this release should come as a surprise to no-one. Rather, what's surprising is that, yes (to answer CC's question), there have indeed been takers - two of them, as far as I can see. Lukasz Croft's Titanic is a game consisting of two levels, the first of which plays out in this map provided by Lil' Kid, and it nicely illustrates the point I just made. The other one is Freddy de Boer's TR Crazy. Make of that what you will." - Mulf (11-Mar-2022)
"Only explore the ship, jump to the water how many times you want and that's it. 1 for atmosphere and 1 for textures just because it was well built, but nothing else." - alan (10-Aug-2018)
"Only take a walk on the deck of a ship and no more? At least the author could place cold waters so players can't stay too long and be consistent with the history. Not a "real" level." - Jose (14-Dec-2017)
"The only thing remotely interesting is diving off of the side to hear Lara's screams before she (sadly) fails to perish. Built in Belfast, sank in the Atlantic and ruined by a builder of a different kind. Bypass this if you value your sanity." - High Priestess (03-Dec-2016)
"I had to check out the walkthrough for this one just to find out what was going on. It's utterly dire - don't bother. Do however read the walkthrough - that's hilarious." - Jay (15-May-2016)
"Simply a test level for someone to build their own Titanic level.Hopefully better than this." - Ryan (09-Jan-2016)
"Having bothered to check out the readme file before loading up this one, I was left slightly baffled by the builder's decision to allow a project as painfully basic as this, to be freely available for use by the community(as I'm pretty sure that builders who take serious pride in the amount of work they do for a project at one time, would be able to create a ship level far more substantial and worth more of a potential player's time, compared to anything on offer here.) Repetitive texturing, boring gameplay, flat lighting, non-existent atmosphere... literally nothing on this level file is worth the download. So best to just skip this one entirely and check out something else more worthwhile." - Ceamonks890 (27-Nov-2014)
"Why anyone would want to use a project as poorly contructed as this as a foundation for their own level is a complete mystery. You can't even explore any of the ships interior;but,of course, that would have required far too much work for this builder." - Orbit Dream (29-Nov-2013)
"Note: Similarities to certain songs are purely random and unwanted.
After having played this level, two things directly came to my mind: I hope that I don't have to remember this level everynight in my dreams and my heart will go on even after having played this level. Builder, near, far, whereever you are, there's nothing I fear but another one of these levels by you. But since you didn't build a level since ten years I think your absence maybe could last for a lifetime.
Don't take this too serious, I appreciate if you build a proper level out of this stuff. Who knows? Perhaps you never let go till you're gone..." - manarch2 (18-Dec-2011)
"As a level reviewer, I can complain about things like poor texturing, lack of lighting, inability of dropping off the promenade deck to the water caused by lack of portals between rooms... and so on. But as a fan of the Titanic, I can feel obliged to put some justified, however still ridiculous, complains about ship elements that don't look like they should in this version. And I can see Either C, or G deck is missing. Also, the ship is 86 blocks long, what, multiplied x 2 results in real size of 172 metres - so the old obsession forces me to ask: Where are the missing 97 metres? Also, the draught of the vessel is 4 metres only, and I feel a duty to mention the gashes the iceberg made in the real vessel were located at about 20 feet below the water line. So, even if we don't mind the height of the ship (59 metres in real, 22 in this project), the proportion between percentage submerged and percentage kept above the water line is not correct. At least 3 propellers are gone. SUMMARY: The Titanic idea gives a lot of following ideas: architecture, action, plot, secret... Here, none of this ideas is executed. So fans of the Titanic can play this level, as complaining about its mistakes can make them feel better, but the rest of players can complain about they can't do anything what should be possible in a level with such background only: sink the ship or rescue the passengers, or evacuate yourself, or change the history." - DJ Full (11-Oct-2010)
"A big ship on the sea, with that so-called end of the world view. And nothing more, as I've seen." - rtrger (05-May-2010)
"I always wanted to see Lara\'s exploring the Titanic, searching for some lost relic at the bottom of the freezing ocean... But this level is definitely NOT the Titanic level, although it is named so. Titanic should be lying at the bottom of the ocean, and not floating on the surface. This mission, if Lara ever decide to go for it, should be all, or mostly, under water. So this is not the Titanic, and this is not a level. This is a project, with completely missing gameplay, with poor texturing and lighting, with completely unreliable atmosphere and boring, so boring that you have to have nerves of steel just to reach the end of the level, although it is not hard at all." - Nina Croft (21-Apr-2010)
"Why? Why have I resolved to play all levels and to review all levels? It could have been so nice. I would have to be able to play and review only this levels which have a rating higher than 7.0. But no, I have made another decision. And would be able to boxes me on the ears. There I jump into the water and look for a way to come into the ship. And looks. And looks. And looks. And if I had not read the Reviews, I would probably still look. Only good that I have read the Reviews." - Scottie (19-Mar-2010)
"Lil'Kid has put together the bare skin of the outside of the Titanic as a project, prj supplied, for anyone who wishes to do something with it. It might be any ship, but it does have the correct amount of funnels (four) and Titanic is painted on the stern. So there you have it. Any takers?" - CC (12-May-2008)
"I have to admit that this level is better than BRM's 'Titanic' because you get to do more than just swimming around a tiny room until you run out of air and drown. Aside from swan diving from the Titanic gameplay is nonexistent. The lighting is always at R 128 G 128 B 128 the horizon looked very strange in the pool there is a broken horizon and there aren't any objects in this project. At least the author made his ship look like the Titanic. It's a good thing that the author sent his level as a .prj file because a player may one day make a real Titanic level. This is much better than BRM's 'Titanic' so who knows? Maybe someone may make a better Titanic-based level." - Sakusha (09-Aug-2004)
"My ship's better but this is what gave me the idea." - LePerk (03-Sep-2003)
"It's not a level so it doesn't matter how we rate it. There is just a big ship all right the Titanic which I am really tired of seeing every year someone to create yet another movie about some poor people that drowned ages ago. This is a project and maybe someone will use it to build a level one day." - Kristina (22-Jul-2003)
"It's big it says it's the Titanic that's it." - bERT (22-Jun-2003)
"It's big it's a ship it's the Titanic. But where was the gameplay? And where was Leonardo DiCaprio? I wanted to kick the smeghead overboard and watch him drown. Certainly with this level the PRJ format makes sense as it is more of a project than a proper game." - Dimpfelmoser (01-Jan-2003)
"As this is an incomplete project which is presumably still a work in progress it does not count as a level and hence I have scored it as such. As a matter of fact I don't believe it should even be in this list." - Torry (29-Nov-2002)
"I'm not sure why people release levels as projects or maybe I'm just annoyed because I can never figure out what to do with them unless they're already named after an existing wad. Anyway I finally just renamed the new wads to tut1.xxx and converted it that way so I could satisfy my curiosity on what this level looked like. It's a lot less than I was hoping for though - a HUGE ship with no objects and no way to move around without using the flycheat. It was cool to jump off the side once and then I was bored. It might be cool if someone turned it into a level though." - RaiderGirl (25-Jul-2002)
"It took me longer to install than to play. Might be interesting if and I repeat if I ever want to build a Titanic level as the prj will be very help full but that's it. 08-07-2002" - Gerty (10-Jul-2002)
"For the player there really isn't much to do other than run around the deck dive off the side and go for a looong swim under the ship which lasted shorter than the actual time it took to install the level. For level creators though this may be much more worthy that is if you want to create a ship level of course because it comes as a project file." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"...and we keep on waiting for the real first Titanic level. This one comes as small PRJ with the respective TGA file and actually took me about 15 minutes to set up and convert to a 'playable' TR4 and then in order to at least have some fun I had to use the fly cheat to get around. It gives you a pretty nice view of a simplistic Titanic model but that's it and after two minutes I left it alone. If you are into creating a Titanic level for yourself this may be a good start else...well we keep on waiting..." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is just a project of a big ship. You can give it some walk on the main (and unique) deck or make Olympic dives in the sea." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"This is NOT a proper level and only useful for those who may be interested in creating a Titanic or a ship! But it isn't all that bad as a start for the Titanic!" - TrueRaider (21-Jun-2002)
"No gameplay no objects no enemies. Okay so it was never meant to be a real level. The ship looks quite strange with ugly textures and it's very square (I know I know a limitation of the level editor). It's really not worth downloading unless you're planning to make your own Titanic-level. I could just as well have played Bullet Ridden Monkey's Titanic-level at least that 'ship' sinks." - Magnus (21-Jun-2002)
"Well finally after a loooong time someone has come out with a real Titanic level! (Not including mine *wink**wink*). This level is not immediately available as a .tom file as it has been packaged as a .prj plus you have to create a new directory in your TRLE directory called "titanic" (This is the file where you put the texture set). After building the level and playing it for a bit my decision is that this level is a nice little romp of fun for a bit :) Swan diving from the highest deck is neat and racing Lara under the ship to see if she could make it from stern to bow with one breath is another interesting thing to do. Other than that this level does provide a few cheap thrills and tricks but it is just mainly a starter set for someone who wants to build a *good* Titanic level. I suggest you download it if you want to start on your own Titanic level." - Bullet Ridden Monkey (21-Jun-2002)
