| Reviewer's comments |
"Playing version dated Aug 18 2025. I chose to play this TRLE as it had not yet had any reviews at the time and thought I’d give a “remake” a try.
What I liked about the level: 1) I had the luxury of playing this side by side with the Official Remastered TR1 in Classic Mode, and was pleasantly surprised how identical both look and feel. I even took screenshots while playing in Classic Mode and could not tell them apart.
What I didn’t like or thought could be improved: 1) Not a stuck point but a bit of a glitch in the Tomb of Qualopec. At the beginning after triggering the rolling ball, if you go back into the beginning corridor to the closed door, somehow the door to the SCION opens bypassing the majority of gameplay. 2) While in the Sanctuary of Scion, after pulling the underwater switch, Lara is pulled upwards to the midpoint of the statues. If you go back to the underwater switch and try to swim through again, you get irreversibly stuck.
Conclusion: This is the first “remake” type TRLE that I’ve ever played. I’m glad I chose to play NateH96’s version as I feel it represents what I consider a true “remake” of the original TR1 game in the TR4 format. As such, I have nothing but praise for this TRLE and value its’ very existence especially for those who’ve never played the original TR1 or others that cannot get their original to play anymore on newer computers. Well done and thank you to the builder for spending the time and effort to create this TRLE for all players to enjoy!" - Lizard Queen (02-Nov-2025) |

"The rare occasion that after nearly three
weeks since its release, I'm the first to
review this body of work. I always end up in
a quandary when trying to objectively review
remakes, as most of the time they are not
the builder's own work. That somewhat is the
case here, but I do want to give the builder
credit for recreating the original TR1 game
pretty much from scratch in the TR4 engine
but with the grainy TR1 aesthetics. I have
scored gameplay lower than the other
categories, as the progression is pretty
much the same all the way through (purely
through my own method of reviewing), the
builder miraculously retained all of the
original sound files plus the ones for the
Unfinished Business add-on, making this a
"Definitive Version", if you like. A couple
of minor errors crept in (a few pickups
didn't appear, the camera went through walls
at times and the AI of the enemies was
slightly wonky), but they don't impact the
overall experience. An impressive effort
indeed." - Ryan (04-Sep-2025) |
