Reviewer's comments
"An absolute top-tier Egypt-themed game, featuring an excellent story and masterful level design. I'm already looking forward to the sequel." - Raider278 (03-Jun-2026)
"This is an awesome Egyptian game, which consists of three levels. The gameplay is varied and there is a lot of clever ideas. Exploration, combat, traps, parkour and puzzles - everything is here. Some sequences I really liked: the main puzzle of the second level and the final battle (which was quite tough). Oh and by the way, I also liked the kalashnikov - never seen that before in other levels. I found one small shortcut in the beginning area of the third level; you can grab the poles directly omitting some jumps, but it's nothing major. And there was one place in the initial area of the first level where you can jump and reach the edge of the map. Apart from that, I didn't encounter more issues in terms of gameplay. Design-wise, it's created wonderfully. The levels have a very nice layout. Every room is polished. The atmosphere is strong as well; the tomb feels desolate. All in all, this is a really solid work and a proper Egyptian level. Highly recommended." - BlackWolfTR (14-May-2026)
"(10) Gameplay & Puzzles: This is a medium-difficulty 3 level adventure that took me a little over 2 hours. The gameplay flow is a perfect mixture of classic exploration, problem-solving, and spicy dexterity tasks. There are non-linear aspects, and levels 2 and 3 are large, however something I really appreciated is that the builder does not overwhelm the player. In other words, the player is not exposed to too much new territory at once. I really appreciated the subtle use of an object as a clue on how to get past a blade trap. Minor nitpick: after reaching the top of the Sphinx in level 3, there is a pushblock you should push down, but the player may miss this. If they do miss this and continue exploring, then they will need to do all of the platforming again in the Sphinx cavern, to get back to the top. I do not think that the player should have to repeat this platforming. (10) Enemies, Objects & Secrets: Combat is oftentimes boring in the TR4 engine, however here the builder creates tension with interesting enemies and engagements. I really enjoyed the final boss fight, and being able to utilize the terrain of the Sphinx cavern to give myself better odds (if you just stay in the open area of the cavern, you'll lose a lot of health). Perfect object decor, a delightful variety of traps, and fun secrets. There are a ridiculous amount of flare pickups, however I didn't subtract a point for this as I think that would be petty. (10) Atmosphere, Sound & Cameras: Spectacular world-building, and eerie atmosphere. You really feel a sense of decay in the architecture as you explore the ruined city. Excellent sounds, cutscenes and static camera hints. (9) Lighting & Textures: Visually stunning from start to finish. As beautiful as the environments are, my eyes did start getting a bit drained in level 2. Level 2 has so much orange and warm color tones. I think level 2 would have better visual balance if more cool tones (blues/greens) were incorporated into some rooms. Overall, I had so much fun with this modern twist on the "classic Egyptian TRLE" experience. I will replay it again and again. 10/10/10/9" - nerdfury (11-May-2026)
"As a beta tester, I got to see both the near-to-final version of the level and replay it after release. Very little changed, which is a good thing: a cohesive and immersive story, attractive texturing and new 3D models that compliment the classic Egyptian textures, subtle lighting that emphasizes the shafts of light in the dim underground tombs, and best of all, engaging puzzles that actually require observation and planning to complete. The enemies get hard, especially toward the end, so be sure to conserve some ammo for Lara's little arsenal of weapons (including some from beyond TR4) until late in the game!" - Cbl (08-May-2026)
"This could be official TR DLC. It's totally beautiful and leads you through very nicely - the only moment when I could forget the objective and walk away was after climbing the ladder from the cave in the second map, so I'd add a camera prompt to put you back on track. The main downside is rather slow mechanics, and when we dash through corridors it doesn't feel faster because they are either alike or we know them already. Architecture is excellent, customization is non-invasive yet everywhere and we get extra treatment from plot surprises. I see no reason to skip this game, and other builders could use it as masterclass on lighting." - DJ Full (05-May-2026)
"I initially played this game upon its inclusion in the most recent Advent Calendar, so it's great to see it put on general release because this is a truly excellent raid. It's traditional old-school raiding in a classic environment, not Christmassy in the slightest but I enjoyed every minute of it. The surroundings are sleek and very pleasing throughout, the enemies are well placed and the gameplay is excellently varied. You get an optimal mixture of timed sequences, push puzzles, agility exercises and traps and I was kept entertained the entire time. I also liked the addition of the Field Notes to provide background on Lara's mission and guidance for the various puzzles. There's nothing too difficult to accomplish, so this could also be an ideal choice for intermediate raiders. A must-play." - Ryan (04-May-2026)
"Although this is a Christmas level, it evokes more of a feeling of returning to Egypt. The visuals and music are impeccable, and the lighting effects are fantastic as well. The puzzle design is outstanding, with plenty of hints provided, and the enemies are fairly easy to take down—nothing frustrating at all. However, the final boss is truly formidable, and it took me tremendous effort to defeat it. Highly recommended." - cheng (04-May-2026)
