"This one wasn't so bad. You can progress in this level fairly easily, the only downside
would be those hidden walls and floor tiles. I think they're fine for hiding secrets, but
not to hide paths necessary to progress, or else we'd have to check every wall. Enemies are
the usual ones you'd find in this kind of levels (crocodiles, a boar, skeletons... Luckily
you can find the grenade launcher to get rid of those quickly). There's also some flipmaps
and hunt for puzzle items. It was good and fulfilling in the end, but I certainly wasn't
expecting that ending for the adventure. I can't deny it was a bit funny, though. Lol!" - alan (06-Oct-2022) |

"Another early level, but not nearly as pretty as the last one
I played and reviewed (Quest for Golden Lara). It's rated
about where it should be, so I won't alter the status quo with
my scores. It's also a sadistic little level, clocking in at
about 25 minutes as did Golden Lara, but it offers a number of
dying opportunities that can only be averted by knowing in
advance what to expect. Hence Harry Laudie's walkthrough. But
even with its help I had some trouble with the spiked hole
(instead of doing what Harry suggested I hopped back, stepped
back twice and took a standing jump with grab to glide into
the narrow opening). And it took me several times to evade
that pursuing boulder near the end, even when I knew exactly
what to do. Not a prize winner, but certainly worth the
download." - Phil (06-Aug-2018) |

"A few devious traps slightly enlighten this
otherwise average and often unfair level.
Lighting isn't too bad, but textures are rather
repetitive. One 'beat the boulder' timed seemed
based upon trial and error rather than skill
and there are walkthrough walls occurring
everywhere and rather than an actual finish
trigger, the builder chose to have Lara meet an
untimely death (which was actually rather
imaginative)! Give it a go if you wish, but I
didn't particularly enjoy it." - Ryan (07-Jan-2017) |

"There are some quite brutal traps in this level that would have been almost impossible for me to achieve way back in 2001. Otherwise, there's a bit of exploration, some swimming and dealing with skeletons, crocs etc. Competently made, if not very exciting. I did think the invisible walk through walls were a bit naughty however." - Jay (17-Aug-2016) |

"The architecture is very simple, and textures are often bad applied or monotonously; some flybys and musics inspire some ambience to the level and also I found some innovative features with flipmaps and light effects rare for that age. Things I didn't like: there's not a camera to show the timed trapdoor opening when you reach the pad trigger tile; it's very difficult to survive in the room with all that falling rocks; you can reach the room where the golden star is without the crowbar; the very empty rooms without objects or ornaments; etc. Even so you can take a try 'cause I think this level will not leave anyone indifferent." - Jose (26-Jan-2016) |

"The level builder has a small nasty vein. I must say this sometimes so. The time run with the rock block in the nape was really wicked. More or less. First I have let the rock block roll down and then I have made the time run. Just as nasty were the many rock blocks in the cave where the Hathor Effergy lay. If one grab the thing, the rocks fall down and roll cheerfully to and fro. And then Lara must watch how she comes out regardless of. The level end was also wicked. Poor Lara. I have liked the level very much. Though the lighting could have been substantially better, but then the level was well built. However, the water hole in which the crowbar lay would have had to have another colour, because one could hardly recognise the crowbar. All together this was a good level which one should play anyway sometimes." - Scottie (12-Feb-2010) |

"In my opinion, Matthias' review is pretty spot on and will give you quite the idea of what to expect, but I'll add I liked the boulder puzzle/trap for the hathor effigy. The final is also quite interesting and unexpected. 20 minutes, 2 secrets. 08/07" - Treeble (13-Aug-2007) |

"The levels made by this author I only can take in small dosages as it is a reloading galore. It started with being stuck underground and no place to go. I ran around hugging the wall best way to find a walkthrough wall and sure enough there was one. Getting a key pillar and a Blue gem and later the pieces to make the Portal Guardian and last but not least a star. Enemies are crocs and skeletons and finding that grenade gun was a pleasure. There is a fiendish timed run thanks Ian for pointing me out as I had no clue. So here it goes when you are in a bluish room with pillars way in the top is the trigger tile. And if that is not enough there is also a boulder that will smash Lara. It took me more than 30 tries but I figured it out why. As I had some seconds spare with that timed trapdoor I needed to hop back from the opening where that ball was and then sprinted like mad.. So if you are like me and save under that boulder chances are you aren't going to make it. Than there is another boulder run after getting the Effigi. That took about the same reloading.... so I had enough of that for a day (or so) and then the ending that is so sad.... 04-05-2004" - Gerty (18-May-2004) |

"A strange level from an author with a twisted mind. There were walkthrough walls and water that burnt and near impossible timed runs or should I say hop skip and a jump? The timed trapdoor with the boulder run was extremely tough even if you made it. Another boulder room which was full of the damned things was a nightmare and those bloody skeletons were getting on my nerves. Lastly the ending was one that I would not want repeated and as for needing the crowbar at that late stage in the level well for those of you who never found it I have one word for you. DOZY." - Torry (19-Sep-2002) |

"I didn't want to rate this level too high because of its short 30 minutes duration but because of a really tricky timed trapdoor puzzle and one of the most difficult boulder traps I have come across I didn't want to rate it too low. There are also some other interesting aspects to this level such as walk through walls and floors 3 secrets a couple of nice enemy based fly bys and a never before seen ending that may shock some players. All I can say is sunburn is the least of Lara's problems here!" - Sash (21-Jun-2002) |

"I was not particularly impressed with the idea to use a few walkthrough walls and floors as I feel this rather unfair to the player but apart from that this level offers a few really funky and colorful textures and sometimes good lighting crocodiles and skeletons to battle a fabulous boulder gauntlet and a rather tough ending for our heroine. I thought the one flip effect was rather crude a long climb annoyed me and there is the disappearing horizon issue. Also I found the crowbar by sheer luck. But then again if you want to see these nice textures take a 30 minutes look at this adventure." - Michael (21-Jun-2002) |

"A couple of tough puzzles break up this otherwise bland level. Rooms are very boxy and homogeneously textured and it would be impossible for Lara to get sunburn in the dull grey light that permeates the level. The ending was disappointing too although some may get some morbid enjoyment from it." - Tombaholic (21-Jun-2002) |

"With its walk through walls and floors rooms that are suddenly filled with water (or skeletons) and 'interesting' (meaning confusing tricky and sometimes frustrating) puzzles this is one of the most unique levels I have ever come across. There are not a lot of enemies but I still found myself dying more times than I care to count. The right path to take was not always apparent and at times you really have to use your brain to figure out what step to take next. Thanks to Sash I managed to finish anyway. The secrets were not too hard more just finding a way of getting to them and the end was both confusing and disappointing to me. I did appreciate all the different textures used and how different each area looked. Interesting but not a level I would play again." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002) |

"A nice short level with some tricky traps especially the room with the boulders. I liked the scene when the light goes out after picking up an object and some skeletons want to kill Lara. Also new is the shocking ending." - Freeman Porter (21-Jun-2002) |

"The ending to this adventure is vicious and amusing which accurately sums up the rest of the level. The puzzles are very well thought out (although a few more camera hints wouldn't go amiss) but are often too clever for their own good especially the walkthrough walls. There is no doubting the ingeniousness of this designers imagination or the fact that he has a pronounced mean streak but the often repetitive texturing would indicate his impatience to get all his ideas down at the cost of a little graphical polish." - Orbit Dream (21-Jun-2002) |

"I enjoyed this level very much. The colourful textures and the walkthrough walls are my favourite elements apart from action. It gives some kind of mystery to the level not difficult to detect them though just enough difficulty to make it interesting. The puzzles are clever especially the shallow burning water pool with the gem. You have to perform a few other actions before you can pick it up. A challenging level without a doubt a timed trapdoor with a boulder falling down on you was something that gave me trouble but that is the charm of it not too easy not too difficult and sometimes this level can really pin you down. Acquiring the pharos knot will lead you to a secret. That was one more thing that pleased me the secrets were just right not so well hidden that even the author has trouble remembering where they are. The room with the many boulders and the head of the portal guardian was great so was the opposite room with the light come off after picking up the item. Then your enemies appeared out of the dark skeletons; charming. Some crocodiles and a wild boar are other enemies to battle. The ending though was a little cruel for Lara after getting a star and placing it in its receptacle the scene that follows is a view of the current area from above and just when you expect the scene to end and either finish the level or take control of her again spikes are coming up where she is standing and Lara is dead. I admit it's disturbing but I understand the author's need for an extreme touch at the end." - Kristina (21-Jun-2002) |

"The Level is short however full of difficult situations. Immediately at the beginning one must get away from a skeleton and hop around fireplaces. Two other places were to be mastered only with a lot of feeling and total keyboard control. To the points atmosphere and sound one cannot say a lot there was nothing worth mentioning. The opponents were actually also no threat anymore after one had found the grenade gun. The level lives actually only by the difficult jump combinations and they were completely after my taste. Recommendable for advanced players." - Xxenofex (21-Jun-2002) |

"Now this little adventure features almost everything I hate in a custom level. Walkthrough walls and floors many deaths a cleverly hidden crowbar a timed run (or hop sequence rather) that isn't discernible as such crude and amateurish texturing that doesn't bother to create an atmosphere or seek any reference points in real life; long uneventful climbs finding items right next to the slot were you have to place them deadly water that looks pretty healthy a run with a boulder where surviving seems to me a sheer matter of luck (and countless tries). There is no storyline to speak of; the gameplay just revolves around the many deadly situations that had me pressing reload more times than action. I liked the end though." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002) |
