Level reviews

"Not gonna lie this is an interesting concept and could've worked better with a tad bit of love in bug fixing and texture destretchure. The level opens in a big yet closed box causing me somehow agoraphobia with a lot of very odd curves, the first actual thing I did, as DOZY was on, was to fly around the track and realize just how cooler the level would have been if the camera that Lara must've been holding while riding the roller coaster wouldn't have been suddenly crashed into pieces shredded by the fast moving roller coaster when the fun part was starting. Oh, didn't I mention that the camera suddenly crashes into pieces and we are sent back to the beginning? Yep. I am kinda sure that If I were to pay closer inspections to the map I would be able to find other flyby tracks or something similar probably the author at the time was still unable to operate with that or something, I must admit, I don't really know! Could have been a nice touch too some enemies, maybe just a SAS behind a counter just to symbolize that this roller coaster company was actually alive and not dead looking just like it is right now. Some other SASes would have worked as people who are waiting to go on the roller coaster and appear to be so pissed off by Lara they start shooting her, just to get on this incredible roller coaster. 0.75/10 "too much roller coaster". Wolfy Regards" - Wolf7

"I was enjoying it when the camera started to go faster, but unfortunately the flyby got cut in the middle of the action! :( I would have liked to see the full journey through the cave and back to the beginning. This is a nice idea but it could have been better." - alan

"In the mid-90s I used to watch a weekly half-hour compilation of short films on arte TV, and one of them included a 3½-minute simulation of a rollercoaster ride in a CGI environment called Astro Canyon Coaster. It was quite effective and interesting to watch. This here is conceptually the same thing, except neither effective nor interesting to watch. I knew what to expect going in, hence disappointment wasn't a large factor in my gaming experience (if you can call it that), but I have to say that if a flyby is all that your level consists of, it had better be a pretty damn good one. This one here is short yet slow; the camera hits the track and goes haywire during the loop, then cuts out; the Lara figure and the switch are superfluous; texturing and lighting are perfunctory at best, and the whole thing might look just a little bit better if there was at least a sky and horizon. Although it seems to advertise itself as something altogether different, it's actually merely a - test level' like those made with the Unofficial Editor." - Mulf

"There's a flyby, not much else, just move on." - SeniorBlitz

"Only pull a lever to see a flyby? At least the author could place a vehicle so players could try the rollercoaster. Not a level to enjoy." - Jose

"Well this is another free review i guess, it was quite cool i guess i mean pull a level get a flyby of a rollercoaster and dive to your death. If you can get Virtual Reality in TRLE i guess this would be great, but at least there is some form of Innovation in this. I quite like the Joke Levels." - JoeTheCrazyGamer

"Yes, well, throw a switch and watch the camera pan along a 'rollercoaster'. It probably sounded better in the builder's head, but I suppose we generally don't expect much from joke levels in any case. At least this particular builder went on to develop some excellent levels after this rather dubious debut." - Jay

"Not much to do here apart from use a lever and watch a cool camera angle. One for the review count." - Ryan

"you can't really give this any score for gameplay since there isn't any as others have noted. Nor much of a score for Enemies, Objects & Secrets because aside from half a ride there are none. An interesting concept and to be fair to the builder I explored the large area (only because I was looking for a comical addition like 60 large medi-packs in prparation for a great fall from a huge height :D), dropped Lara myself from a great height (killing her), and even pushed the switch a second time in the other direction to exhaust every possibility. Did I feel like I was on a rollercoaster? Not really, no. But I did like the concept. I would like to see this expanded on :)" - High Priestess

"While sounding like a promising idea from the title alone, what it all really amounts to in the end, is simply pulling a switch and watching a flyby cam move around some of the 'track' for a bit, before having it conclude abruptly with you just standing there wondering why you downloaded this in the first place, before moving onto something else. Now, don't get me wrong. This is not a half-bad idea, but as a full-on level though, it doesn't really lead to a whole lot in the long run. So I'd only recommend this to those who are extremely curious or just so happen to be a reviewer, as this will do little to satisfy those who are craving an experience with a lot more meat to it." - Ceamonks890

"Not really much to this level. A simple camera over some textures and that's it. Not bad as a test level, but not overly thrilling, especially with a lack of music and sounds. Texturing is functional, but not diverse enough to resemble reality. If a bland, boring rollercoaster view sounds appealing to you, then you might like this. Otherwise not worth the download." - Xela

"This appears to me to be a test level, purely to show the capabilities of the camera functionality in TRLE, which is shown very well here, I am impressed with the camera speeding up when it goes downhill and slowing down when it goes uphill. I'd like to see the author expand this, given his years of experience. Perhaps a minecart similar to that of TR3 would be fun to play?" - sonnyd83

"Ok. It was fun. No gameplay, but it was still fun. That flyby was insane, action-packed, and great. Well I ran out of words...don't miss that one." - rtrger

"Well...nice to see the camera work of the builder!" - manarch2

"Here, the author has invented a new kind of levelbuilding concept, which was never copied by anyone. I have no other choice than to give 3 points for cameras. And neither lighting, nor textures weren't disturbing for me, so I give 1 point for each of them. SUMMARY: This is one of the most original levels ever made. There is no other one like this. Remember even "Lara in a Box" has its clone, so remaining uncopied for 9 and a half a year already is a great achievement for "Rollercoaster". It's a classic, so don't miss it." - DJ Full

"This popped up on my homepage so I decided to try it. You pull a lever and a flyby shows you "riding" the very large rollercoaster. The camera speeds up and slows down accordingly, so it was actually kind of fun. But the flyby ends in the middle of the ride abruptly, leaving you to your own devices to explore the poorly textured environment. I'm not sure I understand the last part of the coaster, would it attach to the ceiling briefly? There is nothing to do after the interrupted ride, not even a finish trigger to find. It is a neat idea, I think, but it could have worked and looked a lot better. And, it just doesn't make for much of a level." - SSJ6Wolf

"Even though i played it a long time ago i still remember what happened. A nice rollercoaster track and a flyby that follows it, alas there is no gameplay but it is something different and it is quite nice to watch, so give it a go." - Cory

"This is neither a level nor a demo; it's simply an experiment.Quite interesting for all that although the fly-by camera doesn't actually follow the whole track, it simply chugs slowly along, does a quick loop and then cuts back to Lara; at which point you can finish your cup of Tea and go and do something more interesting." - Orbit Dream

"This is just a fun little conceptual idea as you are taken on a flyby from the point of view of a rollercoaster ride. And just like a real rollercoaster its all over before you've had time to catch your breath." - EssGee

"The only thing you got to do is pull the lever and then watch a really great flyby camera. Super work concerning the camera but the textures are terribly stretched and there's actually no lighting to score. As for the enemies and puzzles: none. Would have been great to see such a good flyby integrated in another level." - Catherin

"Laras in a roo, presses a button watches a flyby & then I press Alt+F4" - Anurag

"What a shame that we don't get to ride the full length of this coaster. It seems to be a case of 'Nice idea - shame about the end result'." - Staticon

"A cool idea of a joke level but unfortunatly, the camera stoped halfway through the rollercoaster :( This could have been done with a better flyby and better textures and it would have been rater much higher. Not in gameplay though :)" - QRS

"This is one of those levels where the originality score would be high. Lara uses a floor lever at the start and it's only then you realise that this is a gigantic room with a rollercoaster in it. The camera is 'you' and off you go on a ride. Unfortunately it stops after one of the big dips. You forget all about gameplay and textures and enemies here you are absorbed in the idea. It's a pity Yasin didn't finish the camera part and come to a half back at the beginning. I dozyed along the rollercoaster just to see and it is definitely all there. I can't see this in an actual level though because the rollercoaster at two points would turn the car upside down. Good idea though." - CC

"This 'joke' level has little to offer. The best part of it was the use of the cameras because the cameras made the player feel like he or she was on a rollercoaster. The textures were stretched and there were some untextured areas and some paper-thin walls. Since it's a PRJ file the player can try to master the art of making good flyby sequences." - Sakusha

"It's always fun to see someone branch out into something other than a typical TR level and I think this shows that people should keep their minds open but at the same time I wish Yasin had put a little more work into this and at least finished the roller coaster. At first it was cool like I was really on a coaster and was building up speed for the big loops but then suddenly it was over and I was standing back by the switch again. Must have been too much cotton candy and junk food. I'm not sure what all the installation instructions are for - all you have to do is rename fun.tom to catacomb.tom and convert." - RaiderGirl

"Another level with instructions how to install. I couldn't do it so I called in the big strong boys and we got it running. And to be honest for what may I ask. Half a ride that is what I had. Yasin you have learned much more now do clean this one up please. 11-01-2003" - Gerty

"Not a joke level but a good idea that Yasin never finished. The flyby is good although slow and it made my imagination go wild. Maybe the author will continue this one day and fix it." - Kristina

"It's not so much a joke level but a demo of a rather ingenious idea. Unfortunately it just stops when you think it's going to get interesting. I would love to see that as part of a full scale level." - Dimpfelmoser

"May have been a nice try-out idea but the end result isn't much of a stunt." - bERT

"I guess it is like they say: 'It's the thought that counts.' Author had a really nice one but it was not finished..." - eTux

"This is a cool idea for a bit of fun BUT it is a little shoddily done the look of the coaster is haphazardly put together the camera too slow and I only got a third of the way through the ride when it mysteriously threw me back to Lara standing at the start. I have to give it a few points for atmosphere though as I got a little excited going up the first incline waiting for the big drop and it helped that I had Linkin Park playing loudly in the background as there was no sound from the level but I'm taking points off for not getting to fully experience the loops....I love the loops! By the way for anyone about to install it don't go by the author's complicated notes just rename the Fun.TOM to Catacomb.TOM and convert it." - Sash

"Not a playable Level really but a smart 'out-of-the-box-thinking' idea nevertheless to generate a roller coaster type flyby camera scene. Unfortunately the author could have spent more time making it a least an enjoyable fully textured and lighted experience and even with the cameras there are unnecessary bugs therefore the low rating. The file includes the PRJ in case anyone wants to build on the idea." - Michael

"This is not a level but a work in progress that I believe was released to 'test the water'. Well I am sorry but the author is simply wasting his time and ours. The flyby sequence of the rollercoaster was nice to watch but I would have preferred some interaction with Lara and perhaps a mine cart from Tomb Raider 3 or something similar." - Torry

"This is just a time passer. Activate the switch then watch a flyby cam travel around all the rollercoaster. It would be cooler if there was a mine cart as in TR3 so that Lara could give it some loops :)" - Treeble

"As said by the other reviews this isn't a proper level just a fly-by simulating a roller coaster. Therefore credit should not be taken away from Yasin. As he told me he just wanted to test out the fly-by cameras to make a roller coaster simulation. I think it is worth a look since the download is small." - TrueRaider

"What? Aside from the eccentric installing instructions and messing about with script files this does not appear to be a Tomb Raider game at all. Okay a nice idea to set up a roller coaster and then use the camera flyby to 'experience' it but the room and textures are boring there's nothing for Lara to do (apart from pull a lever) and the camera does not even complete the circuit let alone move at anything other than a snails pace. Not impressed." - David

"The bugs definitely need to be taken out of this. I only got half a coaster ride and the camera went back to the start. As it is I think the camera is too slow the textures could have been mapped in a better way and a little coaster sound could have been recorded for the level. It was cute but not cute enough to download." - Scott

"After watching the camera go halfway through the rollercoaster I decided to ride it myself. I DOZYd through it and it wasn't very fun. Mainly because you can't get any high speed when you're DOZYing and also because it didn't work very well when the track was upside-down. The texturing was bad and the lighting non-existent but at least it was a different idea." - Magnus

"This level was a really good idea but it seems like the author didn't spend a lot of time on it..." - Elpasodude

"Contains a fun-level fun? I think this one does not! The roller coaster idea is funny... but why was it made soooo simple. Perhaps with a better location a start and an end at the roller coaster without the redundant Lara and without hitting the track or flying over it this would make a bit fun." - Surekill107

"Oh. What can I say? This 'game' is not a fun-game. Lara is walking in a room. Lara is pushing a button and you see a sequence. You see a camera on a rollercoaster. When the sequence is over Lara is standing on the same place and she is looking in the air. She thinks: 'oh what a very nice rollercoaster but the rollercoaster is driving and I must be standing on the floor.' What a big mistake. Lara push and push the button but the rollercoaster is driving without her. And Lara thinks: 'I push ESC'" - Andi Croft
